I have an employee program that creates a new employee then saves the file using the the surname from the contents of one cell
What I'd like to do is to enter a surname into a cell, then click a button that will open the employee file (.xls) using the surname in
the cell to find that specific file, so that I can amend an employee file. Is there a way to do this? or an alternative?
I have numerous spreadsheets that I need to open and unhide a sheet, that has XML data stored in cell A1. What I need to do is copy that data in cell A1 and paste it into a text document and save that as an XML file saved as the XLS workbook name with a date stamp.
I'm running into many issues, the main issue is the saving as current file name, and the formatting of the text/XML file.
Here is my current code, which doesn't reference the current file name and is just very generic. Once I get the saving as file-name correct and the formatting of the xml file correct, I will work on it a bit more.

I am trying to create a macro that will open certain files based on the contents of a cell. There are three possible files that I will want to open.
File1.xlsx
File2.xlsx
File3.xlsx
If the contents of cell Q2 = 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 then open "File1.xlsx"
If the contents of cell Q2 = 60, 70 or 80 then open "File2.xlsx"
If the contents od cell Q2 = 90, 100, or 110 then open "File3.xlsx"
If the contents of Q2 do not equal any of the possibilities listed then I would like an error box to show with the option to end or debug the code.
I would like to be able to open a template and save the contents of cell B19 as the file name.
Can I do this so i don't have to press a button to run the macro. I have only done one macro previously and that was with the help of people on this forum so don't get to technical.
If possible I would like to be able to save it on the server X:

I have a restaurant and every evening the manager emails me a sales report. The names of these files are all based on the day's date so I know what the file name will be in advance (e.g. today is 20120109.xls and yesterday was 20120108.xls)
I have a master spreadsheet collating the monthly sales data. It links to the daily spreadsheets with links like this:

Each day I create a new column and drag the previous column's formulas over. I then do a find and replace to change the file name (20120105.xlsx in the example above) to the current day.
What I want to be able to do is change the filename reference in the formula above to a cell within the master spreadsheet that contains the date, so that when I drag over a new column it picks up the date from that cell and automatically uses it to create the filename in the link. The path for the file name remains the same.
I have a tool file which contains Excel VBA codes. When I click button it asks to select a file. I want that anytime I click the button the dialogue box should open in the folder containg the tool.,

I have a worksheet that has a number in cell K5 - the number is generated on "file open" code and is custom formatted as "TN"0000. Thus 1 appears as TN0001, 2 as TN0002 and so on. I use Excel to track all purchase orders for my company. Is there a way to just click on the purchase order number in its cell and have it find and open the purchase order .pdf file that I have saved on the server. The file name is the same as the purchase order number. I do not want to use hyperlinks because there are over 11,000 files I would have to link to. I think it would be easier for me to just select the cell and have the information in the cell be the search name.

However, this file is 1. stored every month in a different folder (eg: 200709,200710, etc..) and the file is named according to the month (eg: Test09.xls, Test10.xls, etc...)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to automatically reference the contents of another file into my main file. Basically I have one schedule that I've automatically generated in AutoCAD, and another formatted template. The AutoCAD schedule is completely unformated.
I want to include a link to the AutoCAD scheule (a *.CSV file) on my main spreadsheet and have the autoCAD schedule populate my template. I've done some reading, primarily on here, and I think I need to use either the INDIRECT() or the INDEX() function.
I can get INDIRECT() to work, but it's fairly repetitive (not overly important, but still.....). More importantly, though, the schedule file has to be open, which I would like to avoid if possible. INDEX(), I just can't figure out how to work!
Is there a way to use the open dialog box (like as if you where opening another workbook) and then with the selected item inster the path and file name into a cell.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI created a new workbook that contains a list of additional design requirements than our old checklist. These requirements are answered by placing a 1, 0 or .5 in the cell next to the requirement (1 = yes, 0 = no and .5 for half credit). I can't simply go to the old workbook/worksheet and copy the results into the new workbook/worksheet as the rows of requirements don't match up since some requirmements have been deleted and new ones added between the old and new checklists.
I created a command button in the new checklist and what I want it to do is:
- open a dialog box that lets me select the old checklist file (these are all excel files, but with different names).
- go the the proper worksheet in the old file (DFT Checklist) and copy a column of results from the old checklist ("DFT Checklist" worksheet) and paste them into the proper cells of the new checklist ("DFT Checklist" worksheet).
- The macro would know (i'll have to tell it) which requirements and cells are still valid answers between the old checklist and the new one. It would disregard requirements that are no longer in the new checklist.
- Once complete, it would close the old checklist without saving.
Was wondering .. as I can not seem to find the right type of coding.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two workbooks. One is a no-nonsense form interface that my bosses will use to enter safety information. I'll call this workbook "Form". This file is stored locally on each of their computers. The other workbook is stored on a common drive. I'll call it "Master".
When my bosses fill out the Form and click "Submit", the Master file is opened, and certain cells are populated based on information entered in the Form. This is the code I am using to make this happen:

The Quickbooks file opens fine. The Excel workbook never appears to open but
I do get the full file pathname to my excel workbook returned which I then

Why would it behave this way? I open both these files manually all the time.

What I'm trying too do is open a file, make an exact copy and save it under a new file name.
My problem is in the date formula the day is not always the same. In the sample case it's 03 at other times the day will change.
is there a way too get this too work irregardles of what the day might be?
