Open Workbook Without It Being Visible Using A Button
Jun 19, 2002
I want to open a workbook, using a button, but I don't want the workbook to be visible. I'm looking for something similar to the visible = false that you can use when opening a database file. If I use the visible = true command after the workbooks.open command, it hides the workbook that the the code is in and not the one that the code is opening.
Currently I'm just using the workbooks.open command, but I just want the file I'm opening to open in the background.
How do I get a workbook to open with a selected sheet visible, or preferably all hidden? I already have a userform that opens upon opening the workbook that the user 'Enters' the workbook with.
My untidy method would have been to use an If -Then statement for each sheet in the Private Sub Workbook_Open. Is there a neater way of doing it?
I am trying to enable a command button on opening the Workbook, However it dosent work. I have placed the command button on the worksheet. Programatically it gets disabled on clicking it once. So i want it to be reactivated on reopening the Workbook.
I have created a spreadsheet some time ago and have been asked to improve on it but I'm rusty with VBA.
I have an automated ordering system that saves each sent order as the date e.g "05-04-2013.xls" but the management team want a graph with the data for the last 4 weeks compared. I have created a seperate workbook called "consumables report.xls" which has a column with the products listed followed by columns "Quantity" and "cost" which is repeated for the 4 weeks of the month.
I want to add a button to prompt the user to choose the saved order e.g "05-04-2013.xls" (all orders saved in same directory) to copy and paste the quantity and cost columns (c8,D69) into "consumables report.xls". I got this to work earlier but it would only paste the formulas and not the values. So I need
A prompt to open workbook Copy range (c8,d69) Close work sheet Paste special .value (c8,D69)
I dont care if it has to open the workbook to copy the data as this will only be used once a month so it dosnt matter how slow the code is.
I have Monthly sales sheets that import my cash register data into them. I wanted to set them up to do everything without being there. So I have my task manager open excel at 9:30pm everyday and it runs the macro to import the data into the correct day of the month. Here is the workbook
open macro-
Private Sub Workbook_Open() Dim dTime As Date dTime = Time If dTime >= TimeValue("9:30 PM") And _ dTime < TimeValue("9:40 PM") Then ImportData End If End Sub
This is in my July spreadsheet only. So is there a way to make it know which month spreadsheet to open on the 1st of the month? So come August 1st it will automatically open the August workbook and input the data for the first day? By using the date?
I have a workbook with 'Application.Visible = False' in the 'Workbook open' event, as well as 'Userform1.show'. The relevant Desktop shortcut is set up for the application to run 'Minimized' and to start in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11".
In this manner, when the shortcut is Dbl clicked, the userform appears with no visible evidence of Excel having been started. The application.visible attribute is reset in the 'workbook close' event with :"Application visible = true.
All of this works extremely well, however wilst previously opened workbooks remain open and visible when I start this workbook, while the workbook is opened I an unable to start any other excel workbook via their shortcuts. I can however start a new instance of Excel then browse to the workbook to open it.
MY QUESTION: How do I allow users to start any of their Excel workbooks via their shortcuts while my application is running and the userform showing?
I was working on a multi-tab spreadsheet (7 tabs to be exact) and I went to hide one of the tabs and all of a sudden the worksheet went away and I was left with my empty personal.xls spreadsheet. If I go into tools and visual basic I see my spreadsheet listed as VBAProject (Durex Sales Oct 1 to Oct 28 06.xls) with the 7 sheets listed below it within a folder called Microsoft Excel Objects, but I can't get it back in spreadsheet form.
I have a worksheet where I first filtered, then hid some columns. Used to be that I just highlighted the area I wanted copied, clicked the select visible cells button that I put on my toolbar, ctrl c and ctrl v into a new worksheet and only the visible cells would be copied. Now the button isn't working because when I ctrl v into the new worksheet, it shows the hidden columns also.
With the use of the option buttons, the page needs to made visible or invisible.
Example: on Page one, i have placed radio buttons as page2,Page3&page4.
By default only page 1 should be visible and when we select radio button page2, page2 should become visible or else it should be invisible, when we select radio button page3, page3 should become visible or else should remain invisible.
I have a workbook with about 53 worksheets one for every week in the year. They are named as follows: VA-1-1-09 TO VA 12-28-09 All sheets are hidden except the (VA-1-1-09)
What I am trying to do is create some logic that would keep all 52 sheets Very hidden except sheet VA-1-1-09 Till the second week starts at that time what I would like to see happen sheet VA-1-5-09 come out of very hidden and appear visible and send sheet VA-1-1-09 to just a hidden state. I like to have this happen for every week of the year? If this can happen automatically that would be great however a command button clicked once a week would do the trick as well.
I have a data validation list in cell D11 on sheet "Data Entry" and a command button "btnMultipleProperties" that I only want visible if "Multiple" is selected in "D11" I have the below code in "This Workbook" in VBE but it doesn't work. What did I miss?
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) With Sheets("Data Entry") If [D11].Value "Multiple" Then btnMultipleProperties.Visible = False Else: btnMultipleProperties.Visible = True End If End With End Sub
I have a presentation that I open from a short-cut. After the "Welcome Page" is opened, I want to open a second workbook in a new instance of Excel after 4 seconds.
I think that I can open the new instance of excel, but I don't know how to activate the macro after 4 seconds.
I'm sure there is a function someplace for this that can be used in a macro.
Then, after the second Workbook is opened, I want the Welcome Page "Workbook" closed, leaving the second Worbook open.
My Splash screen opens a few seconds after the workbook has loaded. Is there a way to make the workbook open minimzed until the the splash screen closes then open properly? What I trying to say is that only the splash screen is visible until it closes.
I have a workbook that was opened with a Word macro but was mistakenly not made visible. I didnot realize the workbook was open because I didn't see it. I tried to open it manually and found that it was locked for editing because it was already open due to the Word macro opening it. How do I close it?
I would like to write a Sub that will see if a workbook is open and if it is not then open it. I know how to have a macro automatically open a workbook, but I run into problems when the macro runs and tries to open an already opened workbook.
I know this is probably an easy one, but can anyone help, I have a spreadsheet with aboout 8 worksheet tabs, for some reason they have disappeared I have emailed the spreadsheet to my work email and everything is fine, does anyone out there know what I have done. I have checked the tools options and view tab as informed and the sheet tabs are definately checked, also I have ensured that the tabs are not hidden.
Create a full copy of an open workbook (eg. activeworkbook MyFile.xls) using VBA, with the new copy (eg Book1.xls) open as well ,without having to save a copy first then open it ?
I did a macro on my mac to transfer a sheet from one workbook to another worbook. It works very well when the destination workbook is open. Therefore I wanted to add some piece of code to check if the destination workbook is open. If not then I wanted the macro to open it before tranfering the sheet. Here is the code I´m using for tranfering the sheet
Sub Transfer_Sluttet() If ActiveSheet.Index <> Sheets.Count Then Application.DisplayAlerts = False Set ws = ActiveSheet Sheets(ws.Index + 1).Delete ws.Move Before:=Workbooks("Sluttet.xls").Sheets("sheet2") 'Moves active sheet to beginning of named workbook. 'Replace Test.xls with the full name of the target workbook you want. Application.DisplayAlerts = True End If End Sub
This is the type of macro I useually use on my pc to check if a workbook is open and if not then open it
If IsWorkbookOpened("Filename.xls", "C:Documents and ..................
I have a boolean toggle for disabling and enabling a Workbook_Change event.
Right I invoke macros to turn the Workbook_Change event on and off and I don't know what state it's in.
Two Questions: 1) (required) I would love to be able to visually know if it's enabled no matter which sheet I am on 2) (bonus) Be able to change the state with a persistent interface (e.g. perhaps the Ribbon?) no matter which sheet I am on.
I created 3 custom toolbars. I want toolbar A to be visible only in Workbook A.xls, toolbar B to be visible only in Workbook B.xls and toolbar C to be visible only in Workbook C.xls. while Workbooks A,B, and C are open at the same time. I use Workbook A to automatically open Workbooks B and C.
Problem: Since I'm openning the Workbooks automatically it only keeps the Toolbar C visible on all Woksheets.
I included the following code in the This Workbook Object on each Workbook:
I have an Excel sheet with all client information...For clinical supervision I want my team members to open their own "Supervision.xls" and click a button...this button will open "Client.xls" and select "Client info sheet"...It will then hide rows c,d,g & f...it will then filter column "e" based on the specific caseworkers name ( say "Joe") and copy only the visable columns back to their "supervision.xls" Values only (doesn't effect the colour formating of Supervision.xls) then close "Client.xls"
I've been using the following code to bring in individual cell values from one closed workbook to an active one. I would like to modify this is possible to bring in multiple cells at once and also pull them into a different worksheet in the active workbook. Basically, my command button is on Sheet1 but I'd like the data to pull into a cell on Sheet2.
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() With Range("Q9") .Formula = "='C:Users[Workbook Name.xlsm]Worksheet Name'! N27" .Value = .Value End With
I would like to use a command button to copy a row of data from one workbook to a column in another workbook. The row of data will have different values on a daily basis but will always be B2 through BE2. I would like the copied row of data pasted in the next available column to the left in the other work book.
I have data that daily needs to be refreshed and printed to pdf.
I figure the simplest way to do this would be to task schedule the workbook to open daily. Then on open it will refresh the data, print it after all data has been refreshed and close the workbook.
I set it up originally without the need to print so I have all the queries set to refresh when opening the file, however when I now try and put the code to print to pdf on the workbook open event it runs before the queries are finished running. (Query notes: queries were created through Microsoft query, and are accessing a MySQL database queries set to refresh when opening the file queries set to enable background refresh).
I am having problems with some vba codes when I protect my workbook; 'I get an run-time error 1004 Unable to set visible property of the worksheet class'
i am using the macro below to get excel to hide all sheets but the one called "open"...
PHP Sub savemini()
ActiveWorkbook.Unprotect "letmein"
For Each sh In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets If Not sh.Name = "open" Then sh.Visible = xlVeryHidden Next sh
ActiveWorkbook.Save End Sub
So the workbook is protected with the password "letmein", and the VB code above in theory should unlock the workbook, allowing all visible sheets to be hidden with the exception of the sheet called "open". Then is saves the file.
Now heres the odd bit... it works for certain people, but not for others. I have made sure those it wont work for are not doing anything weird and they are not.
The workbook i am using has a code that only opens certain sheets for certain users. I as a master user have access to all sheets. I can go into the users sheets and click the button that activates the macro above myself and it works fine, but for some users it wont work.
