Nov 17, 2007When working in an userform, and you call another sub routine within the userform, will all variables passed automatically be byref (no way to do byval?)?

Pass Values Between Private & Public Procedures
Jan 1, 2008how is the best method to link up forms to "talk" to my modules? (aka set variables inside my module script)
the way i understand it with my C++ background, it seems like separate forms and modules act much like private declarations do inside class calls.
I know that in C++ i can declare a friend class to grant access to communication between classes... and i'm wondering if such a procedure is possible in VBA as well...
or to break it down for those not familiar with C++, quite simply, is there a method of code i can implement to have different user forms and modules to talk to eachother? as it seems that any variable declaration is all inclusive to that one object.
The only way i can think of passing variables is by having my code create a worksheet, paste variables one by one into cells, bounce to the destination module, and import those declarations one by one through the cell contents, and remove the sheet after use...
I know i can do it that way, but i really dont want to as that is pretty darn sloppy, and a mickey mouse way to tie my program together.

Apr 19, 2008I have been trying to use a multi-select listbox as the argument for a subroutine. For some reason, I keep getting a run time error, type mismatch. I'm baffled because when I define the specific listbox, it works fine, but when I attempt to pass the listbox I get an error.

Pass String Variable To Userform Using Property Procedures
May 29, 2013I want to display a string to users. Normally I would do that using message boxes. But that would not give me enough control over the font size, and I want to display using font size 48.
I could have used global variables, but that is not a good coding way. The other way of doing that is using property procedures. I could pass a string variable to a Label control on the form and then could format it.

So what i am trying to achive is calling the cascading element from a public macro, to do this i need to pass the userform name to the procedure. The snippet of code i am using is:

UserForm Variables In Public Modules
Jan 13, 2008I make a userform called Option and now i want to call some of the variables of the userform in a module. First i try to copy this variables in a cell with the next
ActiveSheet.Cells(2, 3) = Me.MediaP.Value
and it works. But now, i want to call to MediaP in a module. For do that I try to do this:

but it doesn't work. I don't want to use public variables or copy/use the information of the cell(2,3), i only want to know how use the information on the textbox called MediaP in a module.

Public Variables Not Holding The Value
May 14, 2008I am trying to use a public variable but it is not holding the value when I call another sub.
Here is basically what I have:
Public AcctName as Long
Sub Statments()
There is much more code in here but it is not relevent
AcctName = an account name lets say "frank"
If X XX then

End Sub
It then goes to the title sub and executes the code however it is supposed to write out the value held in acctname but it comes up blank instead of as Frank which is the value it held when it left the statments sub. I am new to this public thing and need any help I can get.
Just a note: the spelling is correct and the variable does hold the correct value before title sub is called.
Public Variables Duration
Jul 21, 2009I've recently been experiencing some strange phenomena in relation to public variables. It seems that if I run separate routines in quick enough succession (e.g. press a button twice within a couple of seconds), the memory of the public variable "hangs over" into the second routine.
The routines, however, are completely separate events. And I'm not using userforms or anything like that in order to keep VBA running in the background. In which case it seems that Public variables don't always get set to nothing with the end of the final sub in a routine. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I was under the impression only Static variables could do this.
Nullifying Public Variables
Oct 20, 2006I'm programming with multiple workbooks. So public variables in one workbook often reference ranges in another. Anyhow, I have found that, when closing a workbook, unless I nullify all public variables that reference this workbook, it closes in excel but remains visible in the VB Editor. When I open the workbook again, another instance of its VB project appears in the VB Editor..and so on and so on, which is obviously pretty annoying..
I've worked out a way of nullifying (setting equal to nothing) all public variables in a workbook, but it's quite arduous and I haven't tried it yet.. basically, it involves running a code which runs through the procedure which sets these public variables (they are all set in a single procedure), then having the code write a new subroutine setting all variables to nothing, then running this subroutine..

Aug 6, 2009Is tere a way to reset all public variables in a module. I have a number of sub routines withing the same module and need to carry a variable from one to another so I have decalared tham as public variables.
This works fine except for an instance when I expect the variable to be empty (because nothing has yet been assigned to it) when in fact it contains the value that was assigned to last time another sub was run. So I suppose what I need is a way to reset all the variables in the module when a particular sub ends
Subscript Out Of Range Using Public Array Variables
Aug 18, 2006In my VBA project I've declared several public variables as normal (ahead of
all procedures) ... Public simolo() As double etc. They are declared in normal modules, and arent declared twice. I set the values in one procedure and then execute a second procedure but, when the variable is encountered in the second procedure, it appears to be empty and I get a "Subscript out of range" error. Clearly, the public variable isn't public since no data is stored in it.
What is going on?

I am trying to set public variables from an event handling procedure based in a worksheet so I can use that variable in a userform. Nothing I have tried works no matter where I declare the variable. I am using a msgbox to display the variable (a range) but it shows as blank regardless of whether I place the variable in a module, this workbook object or in the sheet object where the event code is placed.
I am sure there is a simple way to transfer variables from the sheet's code (where it must remain as the variable depends on the target cell's position that triggers the event).
UserForm Procedures With Arguments?
May 31, 2009My question is about passing arguments to UserForm procedures. I've created a Main procedure. Main calls a sub procedure and returns an array. Obviously Main can now use the array. But then Main calls a sub procedure to open my userform.
All of my userform sub procedures need to use the array I created in Main. Do I have to pass the array into all of my userform procedures? Into the UserForm_Show procedure? And then again into UserForm_Initialize? And then again into ComboBox_Change? I don't understand how to give my UserForm procedures the array from my Main procedure.

Mar 21, 2012Today's question concerns one sub calling another, having the called sub do some stuff that then effects what the calling sub does.
Essentially

Obviously the above is a very simplified version of what I'm trying to do, since everything there could of course be handled in a single sub. It is for illustration purposes only. My actual main sub needs to call the secondary sub repeatedly in some stacked loops and its in-feasible to but the second sub's code into the main thread.
The problem remains though, I know how to call a sub and pass variables to it, i just have no inkling on how to pass results back to the calling sub. I've tried a few things I've found around the web but I seem to be missing something important.

error messagebox(a userform) that contains the option "Don't ask me again". If true it sets a global variable. Do I need to use global variables to pass to the original procedure "sub1" for the ok/cancel buttons too or is there an other method?
Reset Variables For Each Pass Through For Loop
Jun 27, 2014I am having trouble defining a variable in a For loop. When I run the loop the first time everything seems to work fine, but when the loop goes back through the second time it carries its previous value with it. Here in lies the problem if the variable is supposed to be empty (not assigned a value). So, for example: 'Variable' in the code below may or may not be given a value depending on the conditions in the For i loop. If it is given a value then 'Variable' will still have that value on the next pass through the For j loop. And if none of the conditions are met for the If statement in the For i loop the second time through the For j loop, it should be an empty variable, but instead the code is reading it as having a value (from the previous pass through the For j loop).

I get an Object error with either line I use. I just want to be able to reset the variables each time through the For j loop so in the case of an empty variable, it doesn't try to calculate based on the previous value.
Pass Array Variables Between Modules

...which then calls the procedure Reader in Module2

I've left out the portions of code that seem irrelevant. When the macro runs, I get a type mismatch error on the "let stores" line. If I move the code from Reader into the procedure Main, it works, so it seems to be an issue with passing the variable. I haven't used multiple modules very often so this is probably a very basic issue.
Pass Count By Condition To Variables
Jan 22, 2008Here in the code wbResults is a Workbook present in my present folder. In the Sheet1 and Column "I", the result of test cases is entered. The Result of the TEST CASES can be PASS or FAIL. So i am trying to get the total number of PASS test cases and Total FAILED test cases. BUT with the code i have written, i am not able to fetch the right data. Is the method of comparing wrong? or what else? i have tried to debug but nothing comes out.

Linking Macros & Pass Values/Variables
Oct 18, 2006I have a worksheet which I've set to read-only, I am trying to get it to pull in information from external worksheets. I've created a Macro that will automatically bring in the data however it will only go into a pre-defined cell/row. I have another Macro which looks up the next available row (which is where I want the data to go) but can't get it to link into the macro's. In short, Macro1 brings in data, Macro2 finds next available row, Macro3 brings in another worksheet, Macro4 finds next available row etc etc.

Userform Not Passing Through 1 Particular Public Variable?
Aug 20, 2014I have a userform that is called within a sub in module. I declared a public string, "divisonb", in the module. When the userform's ok button is clicked, I define the public string through a "select case" method.
At the end of the private sub for the ok button click I have this:

a message box comes up with the correct string for divisonb. After the sub ends and it returns to the module I have the following:
[Code] ....
When this message box pops up, it is blank. Somehow, divisonb was redifined as blank within that 2 lines of code. All my other public strings are returned to the module with their correct values.
Losing Public Variable When Submitting Userform
Jan 29, 2009I have an Excel 07 spreadsheet containing multiple tabs, modules, and userforms.
In Module1, I have a public variable declared as boolean - will call it X. When X is selected from a combo box in Userform 1, X is set to TRUE. However I've noticed that when the user enters Userform 2, X is somehow set to FALSE.
I can't set it back to TRUE at that point because more often than not, it SHOULD be FALSE, thereby sending the macro down a different path. Any idea how I can retain the "TRUE" value for X. I've tried changing the Public Variables to Global, but am still having the problem.
Declaring Public 2 Dimensional Array In Userform
Apr 22, 2014i'm trying to develop an array that is populated when a userform is activated. The userform has a command button that when pressed, will cross check the information filled out in the userform with the entries in the array. If there are no matches then the array is ReDim and the new information is added to the array. Once all the entries have been made. The array is then transposed to a sheet titled "Database". My problem is that vba is not allowing me declare a public array.Below is the first part of the code. Which is when the userform is activated.

Oct 20, 2005I have code in a userform that shows another userform with a text box. When the user types text there and presses OK, I want that userform to close (which it does fine), and return back to the original userform (which it does fine), but I want the typed text to be stored in a variable that the code in the original userform can use.
I tried declaring a public variable, "Rresponse1", in each userform's procedure, but that doesn't work. I test for the content of the variable afterward in the original userform and it is empty.
In the original userform I have:
SaveList.Show '(this is the second userform)
MsgBox "This is response1: " & Response1 '(to test if the variable is being passed)
In the userform SaveList, in the Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() procedure, I have:
Response1 = SaveList.ListName.Text
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
MsgBox Response1 '(to test the variable, here it shows the text fine)
Unload SaveList
How do I get the Response1 variable to keep its content when control is passed back to the original userform?
Can't Pass Variable Value From Worksheet Sub To Userform Sub
May 24, 2014I am trying to pass two variables RARD and CARD from Sheet1 'change selection' subroutine to the 'Set ARD Command button click' subroutine. The variable value remain empty and it gives me a 1004 error when I try to execute this line of code:

What I am trying to do is put the text value 'ARD' in the cell on sheet1 which was the original cell I clicked on to open the userform2. To do this I click on the 'Set ARD' button on the userform2 which is then suppose to hide the userform2 and put the 'ARD' text in the selected cell on Sheet1.

Pass Data From Userform To Worksheet?
Dec 29, 2013I have two userforms (for simplicity we'll call them UserForm1 and UserForm2). When pulling up data on UserForm1 and selecting CommandButton1 is Unloads the current form and passes the ComboBox1 on the form to a public variable called lSection_Choice. When CommandButton1 on UserForm2 is selected, it uses the public variable lSection_Choice to determine the ListObject on a worksheet and then locate the last row in the first column of the listobject and input the value of the TextBox1 on UserForm2. It runs through without any errors but the worksheets do not update? I am guessing it's because the modal UserForm2 is set and not focused on the worksheet.
