Yes, another homework for you guys. I have found the code to open the "Find and Replace" dialogue box but is it possible to open it with "within:" Workbook instead of Sheet?

I have a very large spreadsheet that I am using to track/analyze enterprise roles and the permissions that go along with each role. On the first sheet, I have a list of all employees (Name, Title, Department, etc) and on another sheet, I have a list of all Security Groups and Distribution Lists (with Members.) What I need to do is create a vba script that completes (1) a VLookUp using the Name column of the Employee sheet as the Criteria and then check against the first column in the Groups/Lists sheet for the matching name. If the employee's name from the Name column is found in the Group/Lists column, replace that name with the employee's Title from the Employee sheet. I then need this process to loop and continue through each column of the Groups/Lists sheet until all columns have completed. The end result should be that all names on the Groups/Lists sheet have been replaced with the corresponding Title found on the Employee sheet.

I have a workbook with many different worksheets containing data. I am looking to find a certain city name in each worksheet and then replace the region name immediately to the left of the city name.
Example:
Before:
Region City
SCAL ALBUQ
After:

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis problem has come up fairly frequently lately, and I'm not sure how to fix it, or if this is by design...but in Excel 2003 I can't seem to do a "Find and Replace" based on the value of a cell. I can do a find, based on cell value, but the moment I change to the replace tab, the "values" and "comments" are missing from the "look in" dropdown.
I've only noticed this when I'm trying to replace on a filtered list, so I'm not sure if that is part of the issue.
Perhaps an alternative way of arriving at the same goal. Basically I have a worksheet with a number of filtered columns. They are filtered just right, using custom filtering, and so I do not want to undo the filters. In some columns I have formulas that are returning #VALUE! errors. I'd like to replace all of these cells with NA.
I have multiple workbooks ( with unique names) under same folder. Each workbook has "Report-Corn" sheet.
I would like to copy cell "P15" from each (workbook-> report-corn -> P15) and paste to Master.xls workbook -> Sheet 1 one after another which is also located under same folder.
I recently became owner of a spreadsheet with some issues, and I am trying to make it useful. Each row has a URL of a blog post, and I want to extract the date from it (which is present in each URL) while getting rid of the rest of the URL. I was able to get rid of everything up to the year (which comes first), but then the URL continues, for example, 2013/05/16/the-rest-of-the-url/ and I would like to just have 2013/05/16 remain.
I am trying to use find and replace with the find box reading 2013/??/??/*/ and replacing it with 2013/??/?? which effectively erases everything else in the url, but leaves ?? instead of the numbers. Is there any way to have it so that it keeps whatever was in the original box?

What i want it to do is find anything that says FWD_EUR and then replace that cell (e.g C2) with CASH_EUR_FWD and after it has done that it replaces the adjacent cell (e.g. D2) with EUR_FWD. I then want this to do the same with FWD_USD to CASH_USD_FWD and adjacent cell to USD_FWD.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have created a custom menu and saved it as an .xla, one of the functions on the menu is to open up a workbook from a file path. The second option on the menu is to run a macro from the custom menu that is saved in this opened workbook.
Is it possible to write a code that will go off and find this macro from this open workbook?
The reason I wanted to do this is so the user has two options to enter data from however I didn't want to copy the macro over from the original workbook as in time the workbook will be updated
I have created an Excel add-in (.xla) which contains many custom functions. This add-in is stored as read-only on a network drive. I reference it from various spreadsheets and calls to it work perfectly unless I put a call to it in the Workbook_Open event. When I make a call to a function in the add-in from a spreadsheet's Workbook_Open event, Excel crashes completely and I get the dialog that offers to recover the file and report the problem (i.e. Excel shuts down). I have no doubt that this is being caused by the call to the add-in specifically from the Workbook_Open event as removing this call solves the problem. Also, it is not related to a particular function as I have tried various ones; it is ANY call to the add-in from Workbook_Open that causes it. Is this a bug in Excel or is there something that I need to do before referencing the add-in in Workbook_Open? I have tried Application.CalculateFull and Doevents prior to making the call to the add-in and neither approach worked.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've read several threads about using Median(If, and I have success with one criteria, but not with three. Here's the setup:
I have a log of phone calls, and I want to find the median call length for calls in a certain month or set of months (i.e. a quarter, three months). In Calls!B I have the date of the call, in Calls!C I have the call length in minutes (i.e. "34"), and in Calls!A I'm using Concatenate and Text to return month/year (i.e. "Aug06").
With one criteria, it calculates the median correctly. With three, it only returns #NUM. Yes, I hold control+shift and hit enter. Here's my formula:
=MEDIAN(IF(Calls!$A$2:$A$500=Scores!B8,IF(Calls!$A$2:$A$500=Scores!C8,IF(Calls!$A$2:$A$500=Scores!D8,Calls!$C$2:$C$500)))))
Where Scores!B8,C8,D8 hold "Oct06" "Nov06" and "Dec06" respectively. What am I doing wrong? Is there another approach I should use instead?

By this I mean that the information may be in row 31 on on sheet and row 39 on another, the column location is the same each time. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a range of cells in a column where I put in properties of contents of another range of cells. If i put in the word "broken" in any of those cells (say B12) i like to have an input dialogue box popping up automatically. This is where the user 1 is supposed to give a brief description of the broken item.
The next user, 2, (which repairs the broken item) shall gain access to the written info made by the first user just by selecting cell B12. I like it to be a MSG Box that pops up automatically when the cell is selected. Just to clarify: The MSG box shall contain the words written in the dialogue box by user 1.
Does anybody have a clue how to achieve this?
I have this code, the problem is when I try to cancel the Open File dialogue it gives me an application defined error and I tried it a dozen ways and it keeps giving me the same thing.

I have made a macro in a xltm book that will open the "Save As" dialogue but I would like it to default to xls file type instead of the user having to select it in the drop down box.
In addition to this I would like it to name the file based on a returned "=NOW ()" function from a cell (sheet1!G13) that has been mdms date formated which returns an unique document number each time for our reference.

I have a vba procedure that concatenates the name I want to use as the file name and stores it in a variable named ""NuFileNm".
Is there a way to have the vba open the "Save As" dialogue box and enter the NuFileNm string into the "File Name" box ready for me to manually specify where I want to save it?
I wish to use the custom option on autofilter several times. The problem is it closes every time I enter a new filter criteria. Is there a way to force it to stay open until I choose to close it? That way I don't have to use the pull down list to choose custom every time.

I have many columns with data from our database. I have one column that has my html layout in it. I want to find within the html text data and replace it with data from another column for that row.
Example: We have [[manufacturer]] in the html area that we want to replace with data from our column called Manufacturer. So, it will replace the text in the html named [[Manufacturer]] with that rows Manufacturer data we have.
Is that possible to do?
