# Prevent N/A In Lookup Formulas

Aug 9, 2008I would like to sum results, all but #NA results. For example,

How do you manipulate the sum formula so it ignores the #NA 's? zip attached.

Should be simple but I can't get this to work,

I have used =value(a1) that prevents any formula, but it also prevents a zero being entered.

I have amended trying and/or statements in the validation but then it allows zeros and formulas!

I have a sheet with 2 tabs. On the first tab is my data and the 2nd tab is the formula.

This is my formula;

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A3,Data!$A:$AD,23,0)),"",(VLOOKUP(A3,Data!$A:$AD,23,0)))

When I insert a new column at 'A' the formula changes (as below)

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A3,Data!$B:$AE,23,0)),"",(VLOOKUP(A3,Data!$B:$AE,23,0)))

How do i stop the reference changing from 'Data!$A:$AD' to 'Data!$B:$AE' when inserting the column?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a list that I have validated as a list with a blank on top to enable data override.

I have a formula that uses the content of this cell, c7 say, to perform so vlookup function and return a result. However, when the cell c7 is blank( meaning the blank cell in the list is selected), the result is #N/A.

I am trying to have that result be a blank.

The formula is as follows, assuming c7 is the data containing cell:

=IF(OR(LEFT($C7,1)="W",VLOOKUP($C7,Table2B_1,7)>9,ISBLANK(C7))," ",VLOOKUP($C7,Table2B_1,2))

Here's my formula that gives me an answer of zero.

=IF(IF(L14="L",(LOOKUP(B14,data!Y1:Y14831,data!AO1:AO14831)),0),IF(L14="L+R",(LOOKUP(B14,data!Y1:Y14 831,data!AQ1:AQ14831)),0),0)

L14 is a dropdown box, selection is L or L+R

The L true result is 30 and L+R result is 60

It should be possible to combine these should it not?

I would do a screen shot but it's quite huge.

I need to compare two tables in two different worksheets (A and B) and update the weekly changes (income and sales) from B to A. I have been using an Index(Match) formula which has been working perfect. I am however forced to update to a macro.

The worksheets are identical and each item is identified by a unique ID.

Any ideas in exchange for a 6-pack Budweiser?

My task is to sum up data in a worksheet which counts on the number of "working days"(Exclude Sat, Sun and Public Holiday) between "the date of receiving the case" and "the date of completion" of the same case.

So here I have already listed out the days of each month to distinguish "Working Days" and "Non-working days" by "1" and "0" respectively for the easy calculation of the no. of working days as I think.

like this(January):

Date

Results (Exclude holidays)

1/1/12

[Code].....

Then, I use the lookup formula to determine the receiving date (beginning) and the submission day (Ending) sucessfully.

Receiving date

completion date

Receiving date

completion date

1/3/2012

1/8/2012

1

0

Here comes the problem, I want to sum up the range of cell from the result of 1/3/2012 to 1/8/2012, i.e. (1+1+1+1+0+0)=4 to get the total no. of processing days of each case. I tried to use INDIRECT like "=SUM(INDIRECT(VLOOKUP(F5, A2:A226, B2:B226)):INDIRECT(VLOOKUP(G5, A2:A226, B2:B226)))" but it returns me #REF!

Im having an awful time with the time it takes to calculate my formulas. I have probably written some of them ineffiecent.

=INDEX( Website_Query!$A$2:$Z$10000,MATCH(1,(Website_Query!$A$2:$A$9725=B1144)*(Website_Query!$C$2:$C$9725="EA "),0),4)

=Q1144*2

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A1144,pricing!A$2:AL$1547,38,FALSE)),"",VLOOKUP(A1144,pricing!A$2:AL$1547,38,FALSE))

=IF(ISERROR(Q1144+AR1144),"",Q1144+AR1144)

=IF(AK1086="q2",AL1086+AS1086,IF(AM1086="q2",AN1086+AS1086,IF(AO1086="q2",AP1086+AS1086,IF(AQ1086="q2",AR1086+AS1086,""))))

="q"&INDEX(Website_Query!$A$2:$L$7725,MATCH(1,(Website_Query!$A$2:$A$7725=$B1086)*(Website_Query!$C$2:$C$7725=$C1086),0),5)

I am looking for ideas on how to speed-up one workbook. I have a spreadsheet with hundreds of lookup formulas and array formulas which are very slow to recalculate (takes around 5 min). Good thing about it is that these formulas are located in a specific range and that I need to run them only once a day (in the morning). Since I need to refresh the rest of the spreadsheet frequently, I am looking for an idea on how to isolate this resource heavy areas.

One solution I've been thinking about is moving these complex and slow formulas to VBA and run them only when needed. Can anybody assist me with the best and easiest way of doing this. Ideally I would want to leave option to the user to later edit this formula. Does anybody have any experience with weather it is best to migrate complete formulas to VBA or maybe leave formulas in the spreadsheet and run them based on predefined flag (that I can switch on or off from the code)?

I am using a lot of linked reports that have to be rewritten each month. For example smaller formulas look like this:

=('S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$228*2)+'S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$262+'S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$292

What I want to do is extract the file path from the above formula and make it a composite of several cell references.

So what I need is to have a cell where they can change the month and another where we can change the year. So I set up several named cells that look like this:

_MONTH =11 November

_YEAR =2013

_JOBCARD ='S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING

_PATH =_JOBCARD & _YEAR &"" &_MONTH

I tried several versions, I am hoping for something like this:

=('_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$228*2)+'_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$262+'_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$292

I've found a few macros that will automate changing cell references from absolute to relative and they work great. However, when I run the macros on formulas that have references to another worksheet or workbook, the macro will not work correctly.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to automate creating certain keyword combinations I need, based off of the values I input into reference cells in columns A - E; the goal is to compile a list of keywords which I will then use to track my rankings in search engines.

I'm looking to only output 500 keywords, so some of the cells in columns A, B, C & E will not contain data (column D will always have a primary Geo-target listed). This results in some of the concatenate formulas I've created outputting partial data (i.e. if there is no data in cell A10, and cell D2 contains the word "Knoxville", then cell I10 will output the data, "Knoxville "). How can I setup conditioning formatting or a formula so that these auto-generated cells appear blank if one of the reference cells has no data within it?The reason why I need the above to work is because I want to setup a formula that automatically counts the # of keyword combinations created by the data entered into any of the reference cells. With the partial combinations being listed, it skews my data. Which leads me to my next question: what is the best formula for counting the # of cells containing a full keyword combination from any of the cells listed in columns G - O (minus the data in the header cells; i.e. G1, H1, etc...)?Lastly, is there a formula I could use that would then aggregate all of the full keyword combinations within the "Complete Keyword List" column (column P)?

I am running Excel 2007 on Windows Vista Business 32 bit. Recently I have noticed that if I enter a formula into an empty, unsused cell, it is recognized as a formula. If I modify that formula, it is then recognized as text and does not work as a formula. The only way I can get the cell to recognize a formula is to delete the cell and start over. This same scenario does not occur on previously stored workbooks. I have checked all of the flags that I know about, including the Options function.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a spreadhseet with various functions on it and what I am trying to do is this.

Cell E4 returns a >35 or <35 true or false value

Cell G4 is either blank or has "Yes" text type into it.

What I am trying to do is get cell F4 to return certain arguments.

E4 = >35 and G4 is blank I want it to state "Email Hiring Manager"

E4 = ,35 and G4 is blank I want it to state "Wait"

I have a basic IF formula that returns this

=IF(E4>35,"Email Hiring Manager","Wait")

Then if cell G4 is populated with a Yes the formula needs to overwirte the origonal if with the return arguments of

=IF(G4="Yes","Email Agency","Email Hiring Manager")

If yes then what would be Email Hiring Manager (yes will only be input if E4 is greater than 35) will be overwritten with "Email Agency"

Can this be done with two If formulas or does there need to be 3 or more to count if other IF formulas are actually returning a value?

If you have a cell with the value ="2*c2+3" NB: (Notice the ""), then to make excel convert the formula in another cell to =2*c2+3 (notice the removal of ""), so that it can calculate the value of the cell instead of showing a textstring?

I have formulas in a column and they are working unless I edit them to include another function, more cells, whatever, then they display as formulas instead of the result. I've gone to Tools --> Options --> View and the Formulas box is not checked. As well automatic calculation is on not manual.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a table of data (say Column1 to Column 5) with multiple rows.

Column 1 to 4 will have the lookup values in multiple rows and Column 5 data should be picked up using vlookup or other lookup function.

I managed to somehow bring all these lookup values in (Column 1 to 4) in a single column in another sheet. I am now trying to use some lookup or other functions to match this single column and pick column 5 data in original sheet. Result i am expecting is lookup value in first column and next to it column 5 value.

It is basically a lookup wherein lookup value is spread over multiple rows and columns and result column is fixed. I tried using vlookup, but lookup value column and column number had to change every time when i moved from column1 to 4.

Excel offers many ways to use a key to lookup a value (VLookup, Index/Match, DGet, and the rest). What's the fastest way to perform a lookup of a small table of, say, 30 rows of key-value pairs? Theoretically, it would be most efficient to use a branch table (also known as a jump table). See the wikipedia article for branch tables: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branch_table. Does Excel/VBA have a way to create a branch table for such lookups?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to lookup if anywhere in a cell contains a word from a list of words, and then provides an output.

Column G:

VAT payment

HMRC payment

Pay VAT

I have a table on the side that shows:

Column Y Column Z

VATHMRC

HMRC HMRC

ie. If anything in column G matches one of the words in Column Y, then output the Column Z. I have use a Vlookup that works for the first two, as VAT is the first thing, but dont know how to make it work if the key word is in the middle of the cell.

I have a workbook with 2 different types of sheet - 1 containing source data and the others 'collecting' data from the source sheet, depending on what the sheet is for.

For example, the data source contains different pets, their names, ages and their owners.

The other sheets are on a one-per-owner basis.

What I would like to do is use a LOOKUP / MATCH function to lookup the owner name typed in cell A1 of the output sheet and match it with the corresponding owner name(s) on the source sheet. I would then like it to return with each pet and append the results on the sheet accordingly - like below:

John Smith (in cell A1)

Pet - Name - Age

-------------------

Dog - Rover - 3

Goldfish - Tom - 1

Gerbil - Chewit - 4

I am trying to perform a lookup (vlookup) function in a cell in excel and wish to have the range as a variable, so that I can adjust which column the lookup function refers to.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm making my own gradebook (attached) and one of my sheets will list scores for each student in different assignments. I have one sheet which keeps track of all students and all assignments with other info. I would like to program cells in one sheet (the third in the attached file) to lookup a particular student's grade in a particular assignment. I figured trying a LOOKUP with an AND requirement might work but it keeps returning the message "could not find value".

My formula references the student's name and the assignment from the identifying cells so that it is easy to copy and paste. I wondered if it was this which resulted in the error, but doubt it.

I am trying to use lookup function to lookup for data in another table (we call it table A). Unfortunately, whenever the code is not in the table A, Excel will return the data from the previous row.... is there any possible way to prevent this... in another word, if the code does not exist in the table A, I want Excel to return 0 or some other figures.

View 9 Replies View Relatedhere is an example....

(this is on a sheet called Summary)

----A--------B --------C------- D

1Names----At Bats----Hits----Batting Average

2Tom-------38--------31------.816

3Derek------19--------14------.737

4Joey-------40--------28------.700

5Chris-------40--------27------.675

6Chuck------37--------24------.649

Using the LARGE function, Excel has created a list based on batting averages(on a separate sheet called Line-up). It looks like this.....

---A----------B

1Names----Averages

2 -----------.737

3 -----------.700

4 -----------.675

5 -----------.816

6 -----------.649

The problem I am having is figuring a way for Excel to also bring the corresponding names (after using the LARGE function to create the line up list).

I have a very large spreadsheet of customer information(I call it the master spreadsheet). Each row contains only 3 things: Account number, product bought, Price

Later I receive the money from the customer for that product(the pay sheet) that contains the exact same thing in the same order: Account number, Product bought, Price paid.

What I'm trying to do is compare the two spreadsheets so that when i receive the pay sheet of cusomters who have paid with the amount it will deduct it from the master sheet.

So it should compare account numbers when it finds a match then it should subtract the amount paid (column C) from the master spreadheet price column(column C also).

sometimes customers don't pay the right price so it has to be a subtraction so I can see if it was over paied, underpaid etc.

Right now I'm still doing it manually combining the two documents sorting it by account number and checking for matches in column A (account number).

i have a challenge i need to prevent the value is more than A1 cell value in B1.

Example: if A1 value is 10 then unable to enter morethan 10 in B1 cell.
