View 2 RepliesI have a list of airport codes and I need to look up these 2 digit codes and find the relevant airport and country.
For some reason when I use the lookup function it is finding the correct lookup value but returning the column cell in the previous row.
I have to write some VLOOKUP formulas to pull several items from a report, the problem is there could be multiple items for each lookup value as the example below:
Company Data ABC Monday ABC Friday ABC Thursday DEF Friday GHI Monday
I need to reference every piece of data for every company but using the VLOOKUP formula, I am obviously only able to get the first instance of the lookup value (company ABC)
How to I write the formula to lookup the other data? The practical appliation I am using this for has anywhere from 300 to 400 lookup values.
I have a list of rules on how to group account numbers. An example is below. I have a very long list of full account numbers (no wildcards). There are roughly 75 rules on how to group the over 40,000 accounts. I want to use the vlookup to determine what group each full account number (always 11 characters) would belong to? It seems that the vlookup isn't treating the ?'s as wildcards. I can use the full account number rules with the wildcards in the cell in the sumif function though.
So ultimately I would like to have my list of account numbers like 40000000000 and 40000000001 know that they belong in group 1 based on the rule table below.
Full Account Number
Account
Subaccount
Group
[code]....
I have a lookup table which needs to be able to retrieve data from columns as well as rows and not sure if this is possible.
My data is set up with an ID number, financial year and data across the columns e.g
ID F/Y Apples Pears
9999 2004/5 5 4
9999 2005/6 7 8
9881 2003/4 5 3
My lookup table will have the ID number field which will be manually entered to lookup the information on the data sheet. e.g
ID 9999
FY Apples Pears
2004/5 5 4
2005/6 7 8
I can't work out a way to get excel to only give me the number of apples and pears for that year for that ID number. Not all ID numbers will have the same number of financial years so I may need to use VBA.
I would like to sum results, all but #NA results. For example,
=Sum(I8:I10)
How do you manipulate the sum formula so it ignores the #NA 's? zip attached.
See attached a sample from a larger workbook I am working on. What i would like to do is in the Rec tab column G, keep the references from columns L & M as the Table Array and Column Index Number. I have =VLOOKUP(F:F,L:L,M:M,0), I would like to have =VLOOKUP(F:F,whatever tab reference is in column L as table array, whatever number is in column M as index number,0). I have included what I would like the data to look like in coulmn H.

I'm trying to use an offset from a Named Range as my source cell in a vlookup but get a -1004 Object not defined error. When Debugged the Range.Formula appears to be blank when queried. Using Record a Macro the Reference to a named range worked fine but I could not test for an offset or the use of the range reference. What can I do to use to make this work
Range.Formula="=vlookup(Range(""SomeName"").Offset(1,0),DataRange,2,False)"

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a formula which will enable typing (in cell A1) positive numbers between 0-1000000 but will prevent the user from leaving that cell in an empty state. Empty cell means: cell with space(s) or deleting the legitimate value that is, already, in it).
I must emphasize that I know how to handle this by VBA code and/or by using a "named" pre-defined list of values + un-checking the "ignore empty cell" option - but I would like to know, once and for all, the solution WITHOUT using Macro and/or 'List' (if any..)
I tried that, without success:
=AND(A1>=0,A1<=100000,NOT(ISBLANK(A1))
Excel offers many ways to use a key to lookup a value (VLookup, Index/Match, DGet, and the rest). What's the fastest way to perform a lookup of a small table of, say, 30 rows of key-value pairs? Theoretically, it would be most efficient to use a branch table (also known as a jump table). See the wikipedia article for branch tables: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branch_table. Does Excel/VBA have a way to create a branch table for such lookups?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI set up a spread*** with drop-down menus for some of the cells. The user can only select values from that list and an error message pops up when something is typed it that is not in the list (via Data Validation
Error Alert).
So this works all fine ... except if the user copies and pastes a cell with a different drop-down menu into a cell overwriting the existing validation.
I cannot totally lock the work*** and if I lock the cells with the drop-down menus nothing can be changed. So how can I prevent this from happening? Is there a way to block all copy/paste operations that are copying the validation? I know that with the Paste Special I can have cells copied without the validation.
I'm using Excel 2010. Is there any solution which cover requirements given below.
1) I've converted a range in to table format (using Format as Table)
2) Need to Prevent pasting on data validation cell.
3) Need to Prevent change in cell format after pasting data (other than data validation cells as mentioned above) from same workbook or other workbook
4) Need to insert row in the table as per requirement.
see sample file, i need a formula to do like B column,
I WANT MAKE LIKE B COLUMN, COMPARE A COLUMN DATA IN C,D COLUMN AND ALL DATA SHOULD BE IN B COLUMN..
When I enter my sales data into a sheet it can be 10000 rows long, I want to be able to enter a set number of transactions on a second sheet which then uses a formula to look up what items was sold on said transaction.
I'm pretty sure it's possible but I'm out of my depth. I've using something like it before which was this statement - =IF($B1566="","",INDEX('RMS Sales'!P:P,MATCH($C1566,'RMS Sales'!$A:$A,0),1))
I've attached example sheet : For-Excel-Forum.xlsx
how to lookup some of my "range of data" in one cell.. please have a look at my sample workbook..Book.xlsx

I am looking for a way to do what i would call a dual vlookup.
i have some data in a number of sheets and need to do some consolidation into a summary sheet. problem is, not all the sheets have data in the same columns and rows but all the data is the same.
what i am trying to do is something like
vlookup("a",sheet2!A:M,***need to put the column of the data here***,0)
i cant just put in the column number because it changes on each sheet, need some way to do another lookup there, like an hlookup or something, so that i could lookup which column contained 'sales' and return that number so it can be put into the vlookup.
I'm trying to lookup data in a cell formatted as time, the array is also formatted as time but I continue to get the #N/A. Is there a certain format that I should use?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a worksheet (1) with a full list of part numbers supplied, cost etc. ie:
Part Description Price Qty
1234 Blah Blah £1.00 1
1235 Blah Blah £3.00 0
1236 Blah Blah £2.00 2
And I have set up a seperate worksheet (2) as an invoice. What I have been trying to do is when I enter a qty in worksheet (1), worksheet (2) will reconise an entry in the qty colum an copy selected fields/ cells. I can do a "=" or use an "if" statement looking at anything greater than "0". but is there a way I can get the invoice worksheet to ignore any lines with "0". So it will only copy over the information with only qtys for the invoice ?.
i have 2 sheets in my excel workbook. in my second workbook i have the values as follows
A B
ss 10
yy 20
zz 30
so in my first sheet values:
X Y
(List)
ss
yy
zz
in my first sheet X range i have list which consists ss,yy,zz
so i f choose ss from the list it has to check the valu for ss in sheet2 and has to fetch 10 and display in Y range
my excepcted output:
X Y
(List)
ss 10
The main worksheet in my workbook contains lists of suppliers with unique Vendor Numbers, of which there are approximately 4,500 rows. There is another worksheet which holds approximately 6,500 entries I need to bring data from that sheet to the main sheet using the Vendor Number and the information that is held on 4 columns unique to that number.
The information is a classification system that comprises of 4 columns holding a mixture of numbers and text.
Worksheet 1 has the Vendor Number in Column A and the Classification destination starting in Columns Q, R, S & T.
Worksheet 2 once again has the Vender Number in Column A, and the Classification information in Columns C, D, E & F.
What I need guidance on is how to build the formula to copy the information across, or direction into what other method I should be looking at instead.
I want to match two different values in the same row and then have it return another value in that row.
I have a tab with the following on:
Australia
SOME VLOOKUP FORMULA
SOME VLOOKUP FORMULA
I then have another tab which is similiar to this:
Australia Danny 23
Australia David 25
Canada Ben 35
Basically what I want is....where ive put some formula I want to lookup the title, in this case australia which is the cell above, search within the table then enter the name to the right of that. I have done this, however it only ever uses the first name on the list..... Example i always get danny on a role, i have managed then to get it to say david underneath but then if i copy the forumla down again it continues with danny, david etc.
Is there a way to perform a vlookup with two lookup values?
I'd like to look up the value of A1 and B1 in a table with A1 and B1 values
included to return cell C2 from the table. I've had limited
succcess using concatenate and then using vlookup on that cell but i'd like
to not have to do the concatenate step.
I have a table that has, amongst many columns, a year, month and a name column.
I want to do a formula that takes in 3 values (name, year, month) and returns a sum of values found in a variety of other columnswhere these 3 values are matched.
I would know how to do this in SQL but wonder if Excel can do this type of thing on one large data table?
Is there a way that I can do a vlookup in 1 file and specify more than 1 data range to lookup the data in?
In this case I have one file to put the vlookup in and a second file with more than 1 tab and I want to have it search each of those tabs and return the result. The format of these sepatate tabs are to each other and for that matter, identicle to the main file.
Formula is on Sheet1 and table array is on Sheet1
but the lookup value is on Sheet2 in Cell B15
Below does not work, either does anything I have tried.
=VLOOKUP(Sheet2!B15,B138:E161,4,FALSE)
