Prevent Screen Flicker & Show Progress Meter
Jun 30, 2008
I have a VBA code that copy data from multiple files into my workbook.
I find the first file, copy the ranges I need into my workbook and continue to the next file until all files are done.
The copy operation in each file is - row by row - because I need to ask questions about each row.
As you understand - what the user sees is a flickering window because I activate the source workbbok -> copy the data -> activate this workbook-> paste the data.
I want to avoid the flickering.
An acceptable solution could be to generate a pop up message box that will say "data is being copied. Pleasd wait while operation is completed". BUT - I don't know how to identify that the action is done and message box can be closed.

how to create a progress meter based on yes/no (completed/not completed) responses? If 2/10 responses are completed, then the progress meter would display 20% or 20% of the bar would be red. Is this even possible in excel? I've used conditional formatting to create a progress meter but can't figure out how to make a progress bar based on responses.

I'm having a problem with the screen flickering whenever a different cell is selected due to a ComboBox. I searched the forums and wasn't able to find any code that helped my problem. The fact that I wouldn't know where to insert the proper code to fix it even if I could find it doesn't help. That's why I assume the "optional code" listed at the end that I found online does not work properly because it probably isn't in the right spot. Here's the

I have three sheets that I use in my 2003 VBA program: Sheet_Source, Sheet_Destination, Sheet_Status. I'd like to have the Sheet_Status keep focus while in the background information is being copied from Sheet_Source to Sheet_Destination. On Sheet_Status, I have progress boxes checked off as the program goes through its stages.
I do have a working program; however, as the program executes, the screen keeps jumping from one sheet to the next as the copying back and forth is being done.

I have a userform that opens a woorkbook and fills some textbox from that woorkbook. Although that it goes very fast it is still visible (sometime just in the toolbar) and flickers the screen. Is it possible to open it "hidden"?
Private Sub UserForm_Initialize()
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
On Error Resume Next
Workbooks("Kontrollsystemet.xls").Close SaveChanges:=False
Workbooks.Open "V:allaBeredningKontrollsystemetKontrollsystemet.xls", ReadOnly:=True
Sheets("Calc").Activate
Label4 = Range("K7")
Label5 = Range("L7")
Workbooks("Kontrollsystemet.xls").Close SaveChanges:=False
Caption = Now
TextBox1.SetFocus
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub

I attached 2 examples. The first one is before the screen flickering fix I got from Andy Pope. The second is when I added the fix. When you open Example List 1 and you enter 0 at E180, the screen will flicker, but it will change (red) Watching to (green) Planning to Watch in G180.
When you open Example List 2 and you enter 0 at E180, the screen doesn't flicker anymore. The status Watching in G180 still changes to Planning to Watch, but it stays red while it has to become green. How can I have the color changes and no screen flickering? Marco:

I have 2 workbooks open. In the workbook that I am working in I run a macro from a userform to copy a worksheet from the other workbook that is idle in the back ground. I also display another user form that says "please wait" while the macro is running.
The problem I have is even though screen updating is set to false the screen switches over to the other workbook while it is copying the desired sheet and switches back to the workbook I am copying to after the macro completes. Also the "Please Wait" userform disappears while the other workbook is displayed and reappears when the initial workbook returns.
Below is my code which works without issue but perhaps there's a better way to copy between workbooks that would prevent the screen changes?

I have an excel workbook that I would like to
a) appear more app-like, and
b) show more data in the available space.
I do not want to go too elaborate by hiding (remembering and restoring) control bars and I reckon the View Full Screen is pretty much okay for my purposes.
I am currently invoking View Full Screen on Workbook_Activate but hitting the ESC key returns to normal view. I can already see my users hitting the ESC key for various reasons and ruining my master plan.
Is there are any way to prevent unintended ESC from Full-Screen or otherwise lock in the full-screen mode until revoked intentionally by macro (shortcut)?

I'm working with text boxes in Excel that have hyperlinks attached to defined names on a worksheet. Basically just to navigate around a large sheet.
They work fine, but when the mouse is hovered over the text box it automatically displays the address of the defined name, which looks messy and I want to get rid of it.
I have tried inserting a single space in the screen tip box, but that displays a small rectangular box. I have also tried "" hoping nullstring maybe interpreted as not to display, but it instead displays the speech marks.
Has anybody done this before? I've seen it done, but I have no idea how the model creator did it.

As i have a pretty "complex" macro, which takes around 20-30 minutes to do (honestly)....
I was wondering if there was a way to create a progress bar just showing me how many % it has done so for?
Or even tell me which sub routine it is up to? (but % would probably be better)
And preferably a pop-up box one?.. not one on the status bar because i have stuff updated on the status bar already...

Is possible show the "real" Excel's Progress Bar on a External Form?
I send some commands to Excel.
Some are slow and Excel's progress bar run.
But, before, i hide (Application.Visible = False) Excel, then i need to show on my form that progress bar.
Or if i can get value from that progressbar should be useful too.

On a spreadsheet in excel from office xp, is it possible to display a row on the screen, but when you print the sheet it doesn't get printed? How do I do that?
I tried hiding the row, but the admin wants to be able to see it on screen and complained too tedious to unhide it on screen then hide it for printing.
I have never written macros for excel so not sure if there is a solution there, or if it can be done another way.
I also thought we could have the data from the row in another sheet that doesn't get printed, but she (the admin) preferred the hide/unhide solution.

I have a SplashScreen that is activated in the ‘Workbook_Open ‘ Event.
A CheckboxControl on the SplashScreen allows a user to disregard the screen the next time the workbook is opened.
Private Sub Splash_Screen_Activate()
If Splash_Screen.ckbx_StopSplashScreen.Value = True Then
Splash_Screen.Hide
Else
If Splash_Screen.ckbx_StopSplashScreen = False Then
Splash_Screen.Show
End If
End If
End Sub
Unfortunatley my code is not working. I was hoping for some insight into making this work. Mind you, I’m a cut and paste VBA type of person, but I do understand the concepts enough to work with it.
1.What is the proper method for coding this?
2.Which location would this code be placed – the Form itself or a Module?
3.How and where do you store the CheckBox Value to be used the next time the Workbook is opened?

I'm having trouble centering my UserForms on the screen. I have tried all the options on the StartUpPosition in the Properties windows and the closest I can get is vertically centered but on the far left. The annoying thing is that it was working (both vertically and horizontally centered) but when I changed the defaults of the option buttons they moved to the position I described. I have two monitors (but excel is maximised on one monitor only) could this have something to do with my problem? If so why did it work before?

I have a very large workbook with multiple sheets and use macros to copy and paste all data as values, then delete some rows and columns depending on certain criteria. This starts at cell A1 and works right, then down.
This is then saved as a copy and distributed to a wide audience.
The problem is that when each page is opened up, the data shown is the bottom right of the whole sheet instead of the top left ( Panes are frozen for row and column headers).
