Prevent Shape & Range Selection

Dec 7, 2006

I have put a 3d shape on the excel sheet, and would like it unclickable. Is there way to accomplish that with the sheet still clickable. I know that you can use protection from Tools manual to protect the sheet. Is there way to protect just specific object or range of cell unclickable?

Change Shape Color Based On Combo Box Selection

Aug 7, 2007

I am trying to use a userform ( Combo Box) to update my named cell "Aircraft1" then based on the value selected change the color of an object.

The code works great if I manually enter the value in the cell "Aircraft1", however if the dropdown list selects the value the object does not update its color.

Is there a way to update the cell via a combo box, and then have the VB code change the color of the object?

This is my

Option Explicit

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Intersect(Target, Range("Aircraft1")) Is Nothing Then Exit Sub
ActiveSheet.Shapes("Arrow1").Select

With Range("Aircraft1")

If .Value = 1 Then
ActiveSheet.Shapes("Arrow1").Select
Selection.ShapeRange.Fill.Visible = msoTrue
Selection.ShapeRange.Fill.Solid
Selection.ShapeRange.Fill.ForeColor.SchemeColor = 17

Prevent Selection On Hidden Rows/Columns

Sep 21, 2007

One of the fields I want them to enter is a library branch and I have used a data vaslidation list to provide a dropdown box.

To make it act more like a windows drop down box I have hidden 7 cells above this box with the 7 possible entries. This means that with autocomplete, if they start typing in the cell it will autocomplete the entry for them.

This work fine, but if someone presses enter from the cell above my hidden rows, one of the hiddenn cells is selected!
WHY!

I have no explanation for this behaviour, nothing like it has ever happened before, and I have no idea how to get rid of it.

Copy/Paste Range To Different Size/Shape Range

Mar 3, 2008

I have the following code that let's the user choose and " import" data to an existing sheet. It works well up until now. The problem is that the three ranges that I am trying to copy the data from on workbook to another has changed size. In previous version of my workbooks the range was two columns by 10 rows. Now, it is 1 column by 10 rows. So, when I run this macro it doesn't work because the two ranges are different. Is there any way to:
1) Only copy over one of the rows of a range thus making the macro run?

2) Do not run that part of the macro if there is an error?

Thanks so much for reading this long-winded description but the error is a big problem

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()

Import_Data_Form.Hide

Run "UnProtectAll"

Set b = Selection
ad = b.Address

Border Around Range To Form Shape

Apr 12, 2008

For my university coursework I've created a comprehensive building cost model but I'm struggling with one aspect, copying the plotted ground floor footprint to enable floor finishes to be selected. A user can plot shapes in a 50x50 grid (B2:AY51). The shapes are displayed using conditional formatting. All shapes are conditionally formatted red, i.e. colour index 3. I wish to place a border around the plotted shapes, so that I can then copy the outline to a new tab. e.g. Range B2:AY51, If cell conditonally formatted red then place borders to the sides of the that cell that share a boundary with a non-conditonally formatted red cell.

Code To Prevent Editing & Selecting Of Range Worksheet

Sep 3, 2008

I have the following code that Ger Plante very kindly helped me with which, depending on whether there is an 'x' by someone's name in a list, creates a new workbook, copies some information to it and saves it before moving on to the next 'x'. Loop Through Rows & Copy Each Row To New Workbook

For lLoop = 2 To 251 'first row of data to last row.
If ws1.Cells(lLoop, 4).Value = "x" Then '4 = Column D
ws1.Activate
ws1.Range("e" & lLoop & ":g" & lLoop).Copy
ws1.Range("B1").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=True
Rng1.Copy
Workbooks.Add
ActiveSheet.Range("A1").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteAll, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteColumnWidths, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
ActiveSheet.Range("A1").Select
ActiveSheet.SaveAs varPath & "Student Data Files" & ActiveSheet.Range("B1") & ".xls"
ActiveWorkbook.Close

Else
End If

Next lLoop

how I can modify the code such that any cells in the range "b1:b504" in Sheet1 of the the new workbook can't be selected or edited without a password....I have tried unsuccessfully using Protect but am not sure how to get vba to set it to specific cells and determine exactly what is allowed in those cells.

Locate A Shape Within A Shape

Jan 24, 2014

On the attached spreadsheet there is two irregular shapes. "Area1" & "Area2". I need to be able to determine which area the "ball" shape is located in. If the ball is in Area1 then "Multiply 8" gets the ball and "Multiply 9" moves to the blue cell "AH39". If the ball is in "AreaB" Multiply 9 gets the ball and "Multiply 8" runs to cell "S37"

I should be able to do the moving of the shapes using all the samples, its determining which area the ball is in is the problem.

In the real spreadsheet i will probably have around 10 different Areas.

Lock Cells To Prevent Predefined Range Macro Copying

Oct 30, 2012

I have a spreadsheet that allows users to paste set data from a PDF Image (using OCR) straight into Excel and then use the MID function to split the data accordingly.

Unfortunately, the OCR isn’t too intuitive and gets it wrong sometimes.

So to counter this, in another sheet (in the same workbook) I have a manual input section, and a simple macro button that pastes this data into the same fields where the OCR text would be, so that the main sheet works exactly the same way as before.

The problem is, and most likely due to the simplicity of the sheet, if a combination of OCR pasting and manual inputting is used, when I hit the paste button, it over rides the OCR data with blank cells

In the link below I have shown what is currently happening (1, 2, 3), and an example of what I would actually like it to do (4, 5, 6).

Example - Online Spreadsheets - EditGrid

So, in the 2nd scenario, I would like “5” to recognise that the respective cells in “4” already contain data and fill them ‘Grey’. This I have already achieved with basic conditional formatting.

However, I need to take it 1 step further and say that if the parent sheets cell (Auto OCR) contains data, as well as filling cells (in sheet Manual) lock these cells off and prevent the end user from adding data and/ or being copied over to the parent sheet.

Is this possible?

The result then being the parent sheet with both OCR text and copied text from the manual input sheet.

Both sheets are protected anyway and only allow for user input in certain areas, so is it even possible to apply further protection once the sheet is locked already?

The reason being I have a lot of figures to put in to each zero cell then I select "Series" to fill the cells in-between with the incremental figures between the two zeros which would be the difference between the two zero figures.

If Statement With A Range Selection

Aug 9, 2007

I was making a simple spreadsheet as I'm taking practice tests for some IT certifications and the spreadsheet I was making was to chart out my progress.

I had a range of scores in some cells and one of the formulas I used so that I didnt have errors in the sheet like div/0 went like the following:

=if(b5:b50="","",sum(b5:b50)) this seemed to work really well for the one section, however I tried to get a little fancy as always and I think I messed something up. Beneath that I tried to separate each practice test with the same sort of formula resulting something like the following:

=if(b30:b40="","",sum(b30:b40)) this however just returned an error #value. I dont understand why the first formula worked and the second didnt. Then again, I'm not really an excel guru, back in college I was really good with it but I dont really remember much.

Selection Of Range For The 'slope' Function

Dec 20, 2008

Here is what I'm trying to do:

1) I have column labels, and row labels on one worksheet which I input into
a function.

2) These inputs should be matched with column and row labels, and then input
into the index function to get a certain cell - let's call it the event cell.

I'm ok with this part. Then:

3) I would like to collect a one column array. The number of cells in this
array should depend on an input from a cell in the worksheet, and the final
cell in the array should be the column label of the column where I am
inputing the formula.

4) The array from 3) should go into the slope function.

5) Then I want to get the second array for the slope function from a fixed
column, but the same rows as in the variable first array, and this should
input into the function.

VBA For Selecting A Range To Fill A Selection?

Aug 27, 2012

Here is the current section of my macro that I use. I just input a row number that I know will not exceed the number of rows required by my data (12900). What can I replace this with (Selection.AutoFill Destination:=Range("J2:J12900") so it will only fill the number of rows current filled in in either row I or K?

Smart Range Selection In Macro

May 22, 2013

Im having some problems with range selection in macros. Basically, what the macro does is Copy / Paste as Values in differet sectors of an active worksheet, so this is the code for each range of cells that I need to copy paste:

Code:

ActiveSheet.Range("C14:E15").Select
Selection.Copy
ActiveSheet.Range("C14").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
Application.CutCopyMode = False

The problem with this code, is that because it specifies EXACTLY which range to select, if I add a row before that range the macro will be now selecting an incorrect range.

For example, say I have a value on cell A5, and the macro is set up to copy/paste that cell. Later on, I decide to add a row in A3, so the value I would need to copy/paste will now be in A6, but the macro will still execute on A5 (incorrect, as it should now execute in A6, and that is what I have to manually correct each time).
