Record/write Macros Independent Of A Specific File

I have recorded (i.e. manually as opposed to writing VBA code) a number of macros to perform a routine, however they do not work when I change the filename.

Could someone please advise on how to edit these macros (which reference a specific filename) so that they work when the file name is changed. The macros copy and paste values from different worksheets and then run another set of macros. However all macros and worksheets are located within one excel file

How To Make File Path Independent

How can I make the files path independent. Lets say I have 6 workbooks, one of them having macro that connects all the six books. While working on my pc, I entered the file locations by myself. The macro runs fine.

Now I have to send the files to someone and would not like them to add their download directory at most places in the code. I want that after downloading, they have to only open the main file and press the button to run macro. How should I do that.

Right now am using this approach:-

sub main{
str 1file;
set 1file = Workbooks.Open ("c:/downloads...../1stfile.xls")

and similar code for calling other files.

Search More Than 6 Words And Write By Using Macros

I want to search say in column A for specific words say “Don” and then write in another column (say column 2) as “one”. Then it should keep searching for specific word until the last cell in that column and keep writing specific word in another column. It should do nothing if that specific word is not found.

I was able to use IF(ISERROR) but there is limitation of max 6 searches. Also i was able to achieve it by so many iteration of IF(ISERROR) and using autofilter.

My goal is to search around 30 to 40 criteria in one shot or by writing macros.
I guess i have presented my problem properly.

Macros To Print Every Record?

I have a workbook that has a list of customer numbers in column A and the type of customer they are in column B. Now, there is a different worksheet for each customer type (about 12) that summarizes data for me in a printable format. Right now, if I wanted customer number 1's data, I would go to his corresponding customer type worksheet and type in his customer number in cell P1 and the sheet would update with his data, and then I'd PDF the worksheet.

Is there any way I could get a macros that would create a folder of PDF's for every customer number rather than going one by one?? Basically the macros would have to look up the customer number and customer type, go to the corresponding customer type worksheet, and print it to PDF for every customer. Is this doable?

Is it possible to write vba code that will generate a text file with ALL changes that were made to an excel file. Ex. If Cell A17 = "Monday, June 4, 2012" and a user updates Cell A17 to "N/A", I would like to know what the value was before and after the udpate was made.

I have excel 2007 and I want to record a macro. I have enabled all macros via the Trust Center settings and have even saved the current workbook (created from scratch in 2007) to a macro-enabled version.

Record Filename And Creation Date Of File Used In Another File

I have a template file that I import data in to, which is then saved with the current date. This works, but I want to automate the import of the data, but ensure I don't duplicate the load.
Therefore, I have a tab 'FileLog' that I record the filename (variable by date) in column A and Creation timestamp in column B.

How do I obtain the filename and creation timestamp of the import data so that they can be entered?

Record Changes To Specific Cell

I'm working on a spreadsheet that has a counting number value on the cell L2 and a score on cell L4. These cells will be changed during the day, L2 always increasing, but not with a uniform increment. The interval between the changes also varies. Each time L2 changes, L4 may or not change. I'd like to keep the record of the changes on L2 and L4, each one in a row, together with the date and time when the changes where made to L2 and only add one new row if the L2 value has changed. The records should start from line 6 on...

Mileage Log To Record Specific Distances?

I'm creating a mileage log for my work as a traveling art teacher. Most templates have you just input the number on the odometer when you started and when you finished. Since I can never remember to check the odometer when I am getting in and out of the car I thought it might be easier to just record the distance from each location once and then record that number of miles each trip. I usually travel the same route so the mileage is always the same.

I have an array of numbers right now, with 3 columns listing my 3 most common start locations. Then I have 5 rows listing the 5 schools I travel to for work, and the distances from each start to each end in the array. On a separate sheet I have my log.

What I would like to be able to do is select a start location and an end location from a drop down list on the log and have the number of miles automatically appear in the miles column. Then I can double this for the return trip and total it at the bottom and calculate my expense.

I am having trouble writing a formula that works for all 15 possible distances, and I don't quite know how to write it so that it references my array and finds the correct distance for those two specific choices. So far I have the drop down menu's pulling from the array but I'm stuck at how to index the array using the information that is coming from the drop down list.

Since I travel to these locations multiple times I think it would be a lot faster than looking up the distance every time and typing it up manually.

Basically, I have a large spreadsheet with basic data including names, dates and a unique identifier number (UIN). I have created a questionnaire in a userform (with a UIN txtbox) and want to link the answers to the specific individuals on the worksheet.

i.e. If UIN 201 fills in the questionnaire on the userform it will enter the details on the spreadsheet next to the details already entered for UIN 201.

Using ComboBox Array To Write Data To Specific Column?

I've been writing a UserForm in Excel that serves the purpose of a front-end contact/reporting spreadsheet.

I've managed to get a multitude of elements to work together as of yet, however have been having problems writing data to the correct place on the spreadsheet.

What I've already achieved:

The first interactive portion of the userform currently has a TextBox (ArtistAgentAddEmail) - this is the email that we would like inputting on the spreadsheet.

a ComboBox which is populated on 'Userform_Initialize' into an array (ArtistAgentAddDestination) - The range of this array is A1:AC1.

What I would like to do next:

The issue that I've been having is getting the email to be written into the correct column. Once I have typed in my email and chosen my destination from the combobox, I would like to write this email address in the column of the destination chosen.

E.G. The first 5 elements of my ComboBox array are: Neil O'Brien, CAA, CODA, ITB and PRIMARY. If i got an email from somebody in the CAA organisation to add a new contact to the reporting, I would like to be able to add this address via the userform underneath the previously added contact.

Write Names Of Named Ranges Of Specific Sheet Into Array

I am trying to enter only the named ranges in the active worksheet into an Array.
The amount of named ranges can be from 4 to 7 per sheet.

I'm self taught at VB (This posts on this forum have taught me - thank you!) and have got the below code working on a Workbook - but not on a worksheet level.
ActiveSheet.Names.Count returns nothing, changing to ThisWorkBook.Names.Count returns the sum of all .Names in the workbook.

Macro To Write CSV File

I have a CSV file that contains data in columns A-Q. Some cells may be blank.

I'm having trouble opening this CSV file because when I re-save it after editing it, Excel removes any quotes that were around the data.

Here is the criteria that the data must be formatted like:

If the value in column A = "H", the following columns need quotes around the cell - A-F, H-I, K-M, P-Q. The values in the rest of the columns do not need quotes.
If the value in column A = "D", the following columns need quotes around the cell - A-D, F, I-O, Q. The values in the rest of the columns do not need quotes. Data is only in columns A-Q.

Can somebody write a macro that will format the data as list above and save?

Write A Line Into A HTML File With VBA

Say there is a HTML file at C:DataFile.html

I'd like to use Excel VBA to write this meta tag into that HTML file:

That's to make it refresh every 600 seconds.

The most elegant way would be to locate the "head" tag and write it right after it, but the refreshing meta tag seems to work where ever it is, even at the very end of the file after the "/html" tag! So locating the "head" tag is not that important, if it's difficult.

So, how do I use VBA to write lines into a HTML (or any text) file?

Read & Write Mp3 File Tag Properties

The problem with the Write macro was that, although it did work, it used SendKeys which has to be slowed down considerably.

Here is a new version of the Write macro that works as normal. I originally tried to use CDDBControl.dll version 1.2.0.51 which is widely available on the internet but found that I could only get it to change 1 file before crashing Excel.

I have put the READ macro in the next message.

Read-Write Popup - File Now Available

I have a tool that accesses a master sheet. Multiple people use the tool (sort of a user interface).

In some cases I need to write to the Master in which I check to make sure its not read only when the macro opens it (that works fine).

In other cases, like when just pulling information, read only is fine. But, I have not specified read only when I open the master.
Sometimes the users are getting a "File Now Available" with a read-write and cancel option. I do not want them to get this message.

File Too Big...way To Parse Out Data And Write To Csv

I have a file with multiple tabs of data...lot's of data (each tab has 80,000+ lines and 23 columns...3 are formulas, the rest is imported data). I've brought Excel to it's knees (i.e. crashes). Yes, I'm using 2007.

What I'm trying to do is extract 6 cells of data from every 10th line and write it out to a CSV file with two more pieces of information (same for each line).

What I was doing was creating a separate worksheet for each one to be extracted, parsing out the data, and then copying that data to yet another workbook that was then saved as a CSV.

First, in retrospect, that was a waste of time. Second, the addition of the extra worksheets to do the parsing was crashing Excel due to the extreme size of the workbook.

What I'd like to do is use a macro to do all of this in one swell foop:

1) Prompt me for a file name (or I can put the desired name in a cell and read it from there if that simplifies the code)
2) Open a new text file with that name and ".csv" extension in the same folder as the original workbook
3) Write out the column headers: (Fix, Satellites, Lat, Lon, alt (ft), Date, utc_t, course)
4) Step through each row, looking at the text contents of column B (looks like 22:50:07.100)...if it ends in ".000" do the following:
4a) write "PPS,4," to the open text file
4b) write the cell contents from columns "V", "W", "J", "C", "B", and "L" to the text file in the exact format they appear in the text cell.

The output file should look like (very short example):

Fix,Satellites,Lat,Lon,alt (ft),Date,utc_t,course
PPS,4,30.543203,-86.323328,1419.04,2009/12/17,23:26:22.000,243.95
PPS,4,30.539272,-86.332765,1831.53,2009/12/17,23:26:34.000,242.61

Macros Feature, And Hit "record" But Didn't Save Anything

I started playing around with the macros feature, and hit "record" but didn't save anything. Now, whenever I try to close my sheet, it gives the "save changes" prompt, even when nothing's changed. There are no saved macros to delete...no idea what I did or how to get rid of it. I tried copying the cells to a new worksheet, and the new one gives the save prompt as well.

Open File - Check For Write Protection

I have a command that opens up another workbook. This workbook is sometimes open on another computer, so that the book opens up on my computer in write-protected mode (shows in the top of the window). Usually, when opening other books through the Excel functionality, a message box appears if the file is open and warns that the file is in use by another user. However, with the code I have at the moment, this is not the case when I try to open with my command. See code below:
