Jan 4, 2008I have a query with ODBC connection to a SQL database. This query's parameter is linked to a cell. The resultant data is the source for a pivot table. I want to refresh the pivot table, when the query is run. I've tried using the cell that triggers the query....but the problem is that the query takes about 10 seconds to run. By the time the query returns new data....the pivot has already refreshed. I need it to refresh AFTER the query is complete.
I tried adding a cell that sums up the data from the query...thinking when THAT changes (due to updated data), to trigger the pivot refresh. Problem is that I don't know the trigger for when the sum cell changes (ie....formula change, not typed in.)
Refresh Pivot Tables Linked To Pivot Table
Jul 25, 2006I currently have several pivot table that's linked to a single pivot table(let's call it X) in the same workbook. I'm doing this to limit the file size because the data in X comes from a text file that has millions of lines. However, it's such a pain every time I need to update the tables because simply clicking "refresh" does not update those tables that are linked to X with new data. I would have to instruct the wizard in every linked table to point to X every time. I'm trying to write a small program to re-point to X for each of those other pivot tables whenever i refresh data. However, after trying to record the steps to do this I'm still unable to run these

Count Pivot Fields In Pivot Table
May 2, 2007I am trying to find a way to count the total number of pivot fields in a pivot table so I can remove ghost pivot items that are no longer in the pivot table data. My code for this subroutine is as follows;

Refresh The Pivot Automatically
Jan 21, 2010I have a pivot table being created from multiple sheets in a workbook. This pivot table is created in the same workbook. Now how do I refresh this Pivot sheet automatically when any of the worksheets are updated. Even manually I am not able to refresh since the Refresh data menu is greyed out.

VBA - Refresh Pivot Table & Query
Dec 1, 2009I've used this code prior and it worked fine in Excel 2007, now I'm having issues with it. Originally every Pivottable & Query pointed to a different CSV file. Now I have two pivottables built off a Excel worksheet that is built from a Query. This allows me to do some complex lookups that I couldn't do with just the Pivottable and MS Query alone.
Here's the code that's failing out: Any problems with it in Excel 2007?

(using manual refresh on the same pivot works just fine).
I have recorded a macro of the manual procedure, but it fails to work when used in a visual basic program:

I have tried using code presented elsewhere in these forums

but the table stubbornly refuses to update.
The pivot's source data range is dynamic and works fine.
I think I'm missing something obvious or I have have a bug.
Button To Refresh Pivot Table
Jan 20, 2008I now have a Pivot table on my worksheet that works great, the only problem I have is I would like it to refresh my data at the push of a button. I now have to click on a cell where the pivot table data is>right click the mouse>select refresh data and then I get the updated info. I know you can install a button to to this exact same thing but I don't quite know how to. I need step by step instructions. I tried OzGrid search, but did not find exactly my need.
This is what I did thus far I opened my work book>click on data>then macros> record new macro>I got a pop screen>I named the macro Refresh_Pivot_Table>store to this workbook>click OK> I see at the bottom left of my screen that the macro is still recording> I then highlighted the Column of cells where the pivot table data is and then clicked>tools>macro>stop recording.
This is the point where I'm lost. What is the next step to do? When I go back to the cell where I began to start the macro and right click I don't get the option to create a text box so that I can make a button and assign the macro I just recorded. Is this the correct method or did I miss something?
VBA - Adjust Pivot Table Included Fields To Match Another Pivot Table
Mar 14, 2013I have a worksheet with two pivot tables, one of which is visible to the user. Ideally, the user should be able to change the "Row Label" field settings of the visible pivot table and then press an "update button" that then adds the same field to the second pivot table.
Ideally, the ordering of the fields should also be made similar between the two tables, though this is of less priority.
I imagine it would be something in the style of:
"If number of Pivot1 active row label fields = X then
Pivot 2.AddRowLabelField = Pivot1.RowLabelField(X)
end if"
Refresh Pivot Table Without Updating Filter?
Apr 23, 2014I have a macro to refresh all pivottables in my workbook. Each pivottable source from the same data pool - in addition I have a filter on each pivottable. Is there a way to fix this filter, such that once the source data is updated, the filter doesn't change? Or to only refresh the "data" in the pivottable?
My code for refreshing all pivottables is given below.

Linked Pivot Table Doesn't Refresh
Nov 13, 2012I have two pivot tables on the same worksheet, tied to different tables, but both have a "date" column. When I change the date in either tables Report Filter this code does change the page field in the other one, but the data does not refresh. My primary table is PivotTable2, once I can get this working I would hide that report filter in PivotTable1.

Jul 24, 2014I'm hoping to automate some pivot table refreshes. I've got a dozen pivot tables on a sheet all with different numbers. I'm hoping I can write a code that loops through the pivot table names and runs the refresh. Here is the code as it is right now. I've essentially copied, pasted, and changed the name of the pivot table for the refresh.
I would like to create an array in vba (22,21,20,19,18...) that renames the PivotTable and runs the code.

Macro To COUNT For Pivot And Refresh Pivots
Jul 15, 2008A macro to refresh a pivot tables. And also Count the Rows and Columns.
I have multiple tabs with a pivot on each. I did copy the main pivot so I was hoping to be able to refresh the main and it will refresh all of the rest?
The macro is pasting in the "DATA" tab then (trying) to count the Rows and Columns.
Then (trying) to refresh all of the "tabs" Pivots at once..

Pivot Table Refresh Causes Code To Fall Over
Nov 19, 2008I have written some simple VBA code so that on Sheet 4 I have a drop down list box to choose the month.
When the month is chosen by the user it moves to the active cell and changes the dates, as well as dates in some other columns (I used activecell.offset ....).
This code runs perfectly fine when I haven't refreshed the pivot tables in the workbook. But straight after a refresh, if I try and change the month it gives a run time error and gets stuck at the first instruction:

Refresh Pivot Table To Get Same Reference In Different Sheets
Feb 25, 2009I have a workbook that reports data on a daily basis within a month. I receive data daily from a different workbook and import the data for the day in its correct worksheet which has functions that automatically calculate everything I need, which then gets collected from a central worksheet which accumulates the "Total".
However, I have recently added 2 new pivot tables to my analysis, and apparently when i copy/paste the pivot tables to each new sheet, the data source is references the original sheet where the pivot tables come from.
I tried doing a dynamic name range, and that states the worksheet name in its reference as well.
How can I make a Pivot Table, gather the information from the same range $A$1:$J$5000, but only for the sheet in which the Pivot Table lies.
The sheets are labeled by the day of the month.
So, data for February 1, 2009 is worksheet "1"
February 14, 2009 is "14"

Refresh All Pivot Tables On Worksheet When Cell Changes
Dec 23, 2008I have a dashboard that I created that is driven off one source of data. I have several lists and pivots created from that single source. I have two cells that are driven off of lists that then drive the pivot table. When a user selects an item from the drop down list I would like the pivot table to update. I have two tables like this on the main dashboard. Once the user selects the first data point, the table refreshs as does the second drop down list. After they select the second data point, the second privot table will refesh. Manually everything works prefectly, but when I attempt to automate it with VBA, it will only update the initial pivot and the secondary list, but not the second pivot.
I have posted the current code below.

Preserve Formatting On Pivot Chart Refresh
Sep 22, 2009 have come across the apparent inflexibility of a pivot chart retaining its user defined formatting whenever it is refreshed.
I understand I can save my chosen formatting as a 'user defined' custom chart, which can be applied post-refresh, but was wondering if a simple bit of code would do this automatically, saving the additional clicks!

Automatically Run Macro After Pivot Table Refresh
Sep 29, 2007I have a Pivot Table feeding a chart that needs specific formatting
However, after a Pivot Table refresh, the chart loses any custom formatting and returns to the default formatting.
(I know I can create custom user-defined charts but I don't want to do that here)
What I would like to happen is for a (chart formatting) macro to automatically run after a pivot table refesh occurs. It should only occur on the one worksheet that contains the Pivot Table and associated chart and should run the macro after a refresh REGARDLESS of whether the data within the table was updated or not.
Pivot Table Refresh To Include New Data
Feb 6, 2008I have an existing pivot table that is feeding from data in another sheet.
The data gets updated every month and sometimes their are more columns of data than the previous month. Everytime there are more columns they are not added into the pivot table when i refresh the table even though they are included in the range.
Is there are way the pivot table will add these new columns when i refresh the table without me having to manually drag them in?
Can't Refresh Pivot Table When Using External Data Source
Apr 30, 2014I am using an Excel file (Raw.xlsx) to store my raw data, and take another Excel file (Pivot.xlsx) to make PivotTable from Raw.xlsx
When generating the PivotTable, every works fine. When click [Refresh] in the Raw.xlsx, whatever changes been made in the Raw.xlsx can "sync" to the Pivot.xlsx
However, once I save and reopen the Pivot.xlsx, I can't refresh the PivotTable anymore. I've tried changing Data Source, but it doesn't work.
Automatically Refresh Pivot Tables After Data Entry
Mar 20, 2009This is the first time I’ve tried to use VBA. I’m using Excel 2000. In my excel workbook have 1 sheet called “Cards” in which I Change data in one cell $B$2 (enter a part number) and formulas in this sheet return many values from another sheet “Card Data”. In the “Card Data” sheet, formulas that look through a sheet “Sales Book” and return the data that pertains to the Part Number I entered in the sheet “Cards”. In the sheet “Card Data” there are 3 pivot tables (“PH CALC”, “PH QTY”, and “Pivot Table 3”) that use the Part Number data to show 3 different sets of information. The pivot tables are the source for 3 charts in the “Cards” Sheet.
Problem: Pivot tables don’t automatically refresh. I would like to use VBA code to automatically refresh the pivot tables in the “Card Data” sheet when I change the Part Number in cell $B$2 of the “Cards” sheet, which, in turn, would then update my charts in the “Cards” sheet.
