Repeat Formula 5 Times Before Changing Cell Reference?
Feb 27, 2014
how I can have a formula repeat down a column five times before it changes to another formula? For example. Say on tab 1 I have a list of products. On tab two I have five codes that repeat down the page over and over again. On tab two next to the repeating codes I need to repeat product one 5 times and then skip to product 2 on the 6th row and repeat five times and then skip to product 3 on the 11th row and repeat 5 times and so on?

I'll try to explain this the best I can. What I have here is a time study. Teachers (which are the control numbers) fill out bubble sheets, then I run them through a scanner. After dissecting the data from the scanner and formatting it to my liking i get this below.
Each teacher/staff member fills out three sheets per quarter. Each letter (bubble) counts as a 0:15 min period of time. Only K thru Q counts as billable time, which I've created a formula to count those letters (column 3). But to be countable each control number has to have three cycles 201,202,203.
So I need something that can take each control number that has three cycles and add their # of 0:15 together.
The italic row below only has one cycle for that control number, so that needs to be deleted or ignored.
Ultimately I would like the results on a separate sheet.
This is only a part of the file, there are over 1000 different control numbers.

I have a function Sum('1st Qtr:4th Qty'!AW1) in row 1 and dragged down 129 rows so the last reads Sum('1st Qtr:4th Qty'!AW129). If I insert a row the cell reference does not increment automatically below the insert location. How do I get it to do so. The insertion occurs when I run a macro.

I am trying to cut/paste a row of formulas in my spreadsheet. The problem is that I want some of the referenced cells in the formula to stay CONSTANT and not increment on each new row. In this example, I want the references to row 17 (F17,E17) to increment (E18,E19,...), but I want the "G7" reference to remain hard coded (as G7) on each row I paste (because that is where my master value is). (The formula is working fine) =IF((F17>0),IF((F17<=G7),E17,0),0)

I have 4 condition which change row 3 to different color: example of one - cells on row 3 will change to Blue "=$A$3:$AE$3" on condition =If($AE$3="Absent"; True;False).
How can I repeat this formula for rows 4 to 500. i.e. on each row cells A to AE should change color based on the value of Cell AE?
(Colum A was hidden, MUST be visible to work)

A 'Days Attended' cell (N8) and a 'Days Absent' cell (O8). N8 needs to count the number of "Present" values there are on another worksheet. The other worksheet has dates across the top and names down the side.
When i use
=COUNTIF("Attendance!C9:Z9", "Present"),
and the next date comes along the formula changes to
=COUNTIF("Attendance!D9:AA9", "Present")
ie. the reference moves a column across - the new date's absent or present is not counted. Using =COUNTIF(INDIRECT("Attendance!C9:Z9"), "Present"). is no good because when i add a new name i need the row reference to move down as a row is inserted. ie. both person's formulas count the same row. So, my question: I need the columns to stay the same - C:Z (leyway for future dates) and the rows to change as i insert or delete people from the system.

I have some groups of data. Each group are 5 cells: ........
What I want is to make a formula to sum the five numbers of each group, then: =sum(a1:a5). but, how could I copy the formula to make Excel understand that I want the numbers from a6 to a 10, and from a11 to a16? I try to make it with left click in the square down at right, but it just add one value to each cell:
It makes this: ..................

I have a set of formula in column C to H. I have set a formula as sheet1+sheet2+ like this for about 24 sheets with different reference of cells. I want to change in the entire range of cells C to H as =sum(sheet1:sheet24!b04). The reference what I have mentioned changes in different cells.

I am trying to run a quick format on a table that includes adding a Vlookup formula. The formula references a table that comes out of a pivot table, so it has a different name every time. If I look up the new generated table name, and change it below it works. Is there a way to capture the table name and insert it into the formula? Or possibly rename the table to the same thing everytime (which I think is going to cause some conflict).

I have this If statement on one of the cells
=IF(A7=AQ6,AQ32,IF(A7=AR6,AQ32,IF(A7=AS6,AQ32,IF(A7=AT6,AQ30,IF(A7=AU6,AQ29,IF(A7=AV6,AQ33,IF(A7=AW6 ,AQ33,IF(A7=AX6,AQ31,""))))))))
If I want to change only A7 to A8, A9, A10 without changing the other parts of the formula, how do I do that. I need to copy this formula in about 300 rows.

I was using the formula below which was working fine for copying across 20 columns and down however many rows, but now the requirements have changed to 90 columns. I have tested this out with the 90 columns but the Indirect function is bogging down the spreadsheet with the constant recalculating.
=IFERROR(INDIRECT("'"&COLUMNS($A$1:A$1)&"'!P"&ROWS($A$1:$A8)),"")
I rearranged the formula to the one below, but how can I have the reference to the sheet name changed as in the formula above without using the Indirect?
=IFERROR(INDEX('1'!$A$8:$AT$115,MATCH($A3,'1'!$A$8:$A$115,0),MATCH("PAT",'1'!$A$7:$AT$7,0)),"")
The sheet reference will change from '1' through '90'.

I have been using the following formula to do conditional summing over multiple worksheets:
=SUMPRODUCT(SUMIF(INDIRECT("'"&$AB$2:$AB$13&"'!b3:b39"),$B16,INDIRECT("'"&$AB$2:$AB$13&"'!c3:c39")))
The formula works fine, but when I drag it to the next column c3:c39 stays the same. How do I get that reference to change when I drag the formula over multiple columns.

When I copy the formula to another cell, It doesn't show the result. But when I double click on it, it works. For example
there r values in A1 as "john" & A2 as "Jack". I write formula =A1 in cell B1. It shows "John". Now I copy this formula to B2, it shows "john" instead of "Jack" . When I double click on B2 & enter, it shows "Jack".

I have a table of consolidated data that consists of the date at which certain payments occur and their amounts that other sheets need to reference to perform calculations. I am currently using the formula below to put the data under the correct date column. =INDEX(ImportedData!$B$10:$DB$10,MATCH(B3,ImportedData!$B$4:$DB$4,FALSE)). The problem that I have is that the INDEX range, currently B10:DB10, will need to change depending on the number of files that are consolidated ie with more files the row will increase.

I have never built or used a macro before and need very clear step by step instructions. I am just assuming that a macro is the answer to what I am looking for but if there is a simplier solution that would be fantastic.
I need to be able to repeat a row of data a specified amount of times.
Example:
3 Yellow James
2 Green Mark
5 Purple Sue
1 Orange David
Needs to look like:
3 Yellow James
3 Yellow James
3 Yellow James
2 Green Mark
2 Green Mark
5 Purple Sue
5 Purple Sue
5 Purple Sue
5 Purple Sue
5 Purple Sue
1 Orange David

how to change the formula below which is referencing an internal worksheet, to a forumula that will reference an external worksheet that is located in an excel document on the G: Drive.
=SUMPRODUCT(--(1210laradj_v_2009!F2:F65536="HMO-ALT SELECT"),--(ISNUMBER(MATCH(1210laradj_v_2009!AO2:AO65536,{3,5,9,12,37,39,46,47,54,73,74,75,76,77,78},0))))
So what it's doing is totaling the counts in the 1210laradj worksheet that match columns HMO-ALT SELECT as well as the numbers 3,5,9 etc.
Well now these worksheets will be on a seperate excel spreadsheet located on a network drive, so I am trying to figure out how I can fix this.
I tried adding it in like so, but it fails.
=SUMPRODUCT(--('G:ROC-CLAIMSAudit ResultsProvider infomonthly statsReproc'd claims2011ProductionCounts[0111rpt2235_laradj_v.xls]0111laradj_v_2009'!F2:F65536="HMO-ALT SELECT"),--(ISNUMBER(MATCH(1210laradj_v_2009!AO2:AO65536,{3,5,9,12,37,39,46,47,54,73,74,75,76,77,78},0))))

Everything I have seen on the internet involves generating random numbers which isnt what i want. I need to be able to generate a random sample.
Currently my excel spreadsheet consists of 4 columns with 200 entries in each column.

I have a 34-page workbook. On Every Row (starting on line 4), and on Every Page (except the first "Summary" page) is repeated, this same formula....over and over again in column "N":
=IF(A4<>"A",(IF(AND(A4<>"A",OR(J4="",J4="NT")),"OK","WARNING: EXECUTION NOT EXPECTED OF LOW PRIORITY TEST CASE!")),IF((LEN(J4)=B4),"OK","WARNING: STATUS DOES NOT EQUAL TC COUNT!"))
So, since this keeps repeating over and over again, is there some way (either by formula, macro, or whatever), that I can prevent the constant repeating on every line, to bring the file size back down? [Note: This formula alone actually added almost 5MB to the file size!]
Two things to know:
- The formula above is seen on row 4 (that's why you see "4" all over the place). On Row 5, it would be "5" instead, and so on...
- The formula above always starts on row 4, and goes down to the "last used" row, in column "N" (so there's other information in that last used row as well).
....hopefully this is a very easy thing to do?
(PS: Thanks PeterSS for the help creating the above formula in the past...hopefully it can now be made less repetitive to conserve ~5MB of file space!)

I have three sheets - Actual( which has actual figures from Jan - Dec), Budget ( figures from Jan - Dec) and a Summary sheet ( which is just the summary for the current month, say July and compares the budget VS Actual). Every month i need to change the summary sheet to the next months set of figures, say Augusts etc etc.
Currently i've been using find and replace, and changed the formula to the correct months column - but its a rather large spreadsheet( its a management accounts pack and has many many more sheets that link up - like lasts years comparison etc etc)
Is there any easy way of linking ( without VBA) or anything complex, so that each month i can change my data easily?

how to get it to fill down. Basically depending on the contents of column D, a formula (which also needs to fill with the rows) is copied from sheet 2 in to column K.
Code:
Sub Copy()
With Sheets("sheet1")

[Code]...

I have a master summary sheet that contains all the required information for 21 other worksheets. Each row contains the information for a single sheet. I have linked all the relative cells to the first sheet but would like create a formula that changes the row reference in each of the links rather than the tedious task of updating each individual link in every sheet.
I have tried using the indirect function but constantly get errors returned, the basic formula i have been using is: =INDIRECT("Summary"!C&,X1)
'C' is the column in the summary sheet that the information should be taken and 'X1' is the cell in the worksheet that will define what row the data should be taken e.g in one sheet the reference for that specific cell will be C5 and the next C6 and so on.
