I'm working with some data exported from a database. Unfortunately, when data is exported to excel, cells that should be completely blank (i.e. ISBLANK formula would return TRUE) actually contain empty strings.
What is the fastest way to replace the empty string with a true null?
I am trying to define some variables as byte, but I want 0 to be a valid value rather than null. When there is no data, that is when I would like for the variable to be null.
Is there a way to accomplish this? In addition, I use the same variables in a loop, which are reset at the beginning of the loop. Is there a way to reset a variable without giving it a value (like 0)?
How exactly does Excell treats uninitialized variables ? I have created a function which takes in one of the cell values as a parameter.. However, it seems that when I don't reference an empty cell, the code does not work. Let the function be ABC, and the let the cell be A1
When I use =ABC(....,A1,....) , it works However, when I use =ABC(....,,....) I am getting an eror
Now , I tried using the IsEmpty function , and it seems tht when i use ,, or ,"", then the variable is not caught.. however, the variable is caught when i use an empty cell such as ,A1,
FYI, I am using the vba's formula method to assign this function to a cell. So when I use "," & ActiveCell.Offset(to reach A1).Value & "," , I see blank ,, when A1 is empty
This will probably turn out to be a really quick one: I've got some named ranges I'm working with that in of themselves use Offset to automatically expand a list.
I am building a template ("Table") that will import data from 4 other spreadsheets and then format the data once its all in the template. I need to delete all rows where a name didn't import. The names are landing in column B (starting with B22), so I set up my code using an active cell loop macro to examine each cell to see if it was empty, and then to delete the row if it were. I've tried 4-5 iterations of code but nothing is working correctly.
Apparently when the fields are copied over from the other spreadsheets, some empty cells actually have something in them such that they are not completely blank. What syntax I can use so that I capture every instance of a blank/empty cell and delete that corresponding row? Some of the code I've tried is below.
I have a VBA program which is running very slowly on one of my computers, but none of the others.
Here's a piece of code which illustrates the problem, which is that assigning a null string to a cell is very slow.

If I change this to assign a space instead it is very fast (about 1,000 times faster).
This slow machine is not normally slow; an ACER Aspire 9410Z with 2GB RAM, running Vista Ultimate.
Other machines run this code OK on a mix of Windows XP, 2000 and Vista Business. with Excel 2003, 2000 and 2007.
Ultimate seems to be the only unique factor of the machine where it runs slowly.
My problem is that I am trying to use REPLACE function but I do not know where my starting point is.
I have last name first that you don't know how many characters will be, then empty space which is 7 characters long. How can I tell REPLACE formula where to start replacing empty spaces with comma?
I'm having this problem whereby a few cells in my work contain empty texts. An empty text is represented textually in VBA with a pair of double quotation marks with nothing inside (I think).
This means that the cells don't display anything visible, but are not blank/empty.
So what happens is that formulas such as ISBLANK(), COUNTA(), etc. are returning unexpected results.
Cells F16 & K16 can either contain a "Null String" ("") or a number created from another IF statement , from these 2 Cells I need another calculation, if the error "#Value" is made I want it to be blank, If the number is >0, I want it to be blank, but if it's a number I want it to appear.
I have many sheets in my workbook with many filled or unfilled cells... I want that any cell in my whole workbook should be filled with " " ie a space if it is currently blank (ie don't touch the cells which have some data) and as there are many cells in a sheet .. I don't want to fill them with spaces as the file size will increase... I just want to do this for cells A-1 to AB-200.
What is the way of doing this with a formula or programming ie without macros... (or is macro the only way?) What if I just want to do this to a sheet and not to the whole workbook.

Basically for a 1D array, the minimum and maximum values are within one set of brackets, whereas for 2D array (as shown in the second row), there would be nested brackets with comma after every closing bracket being a row separator.
My requirement is to write a macro to replace the minimum and maximum values in every row of the worksheet (I do not know the exact number of rows as it could vary) with just one value instead of repeated values depending on the size of the array. In other words, I am looking at the below output:

I'm trying to get excel to check a cell against a table of numbers and if it finds any of them to replace it with the correct number.

I've been given the assignment to replace an old company name with the new one in an excessive amount of excel files. All the excel files seem to be some kinds of forms with fancy buttons and such. I've been trying to research this quite a bit but only found some shady programs which I'm not installing on company computers so I decided to write a batch script to try and accomplish this, if you have any other ways to do this do let me know. So far I've only got a basic skeleton of the batch script, like looping through all the excel files in a directory and then loop through all the worksheets within the file. Here's how it looks

I have 4 columns in which is text combined with numbers (Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet t-shirt LPW01-B consectetur adipiscing.) I need to search every column and cells in them for a word/string which is written in R2 and replace the word in every cell by the word in S2
So for example, in R2 is "t-shirt" and in S2 is "potato"
The program finds the entry: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet t-shirt LPW01-B consectetur adipiscing." and replace it with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet potato LPW01-B consectetur adipiscing."

I created a vba procedure for a particular job but within that procedure I need to perform another task. I've been trying to come up with a regular expression but to no avail. I'm looking to loop through a range of cells for any string where there isn't a space before and after a hyphen. When occurance is matched, then replace with spaces. One exception to the rule would be if data is contained within parentheses, then ignore. There could be zero occurances in string to many.
I am looking for a piece of code and can locate the range of a specified string, and replace it with something else. For example, I need to find string "AA" and replace that with "BB", can this be achieved with VBA code?
I have a spreadsheet with cognitive tests (approx 300) that have been given names like

What I need is a VBA macro that replaces the _e only at the end of the string to _ss for those strings that begins with w3_, w4_ and DKEFS_ (e.g. from w3_th_e to w3_th_ss)
Likewise I want to replace only the _e at the end of the string on all other names (e.g. pegboard_eh_e) with _t (e.g. from pegboard_eh_e to pegboard_eh_t) Is this possible?

I am trying to be able to input a value in column A and the string of text in column B will be affected by the value that I put in Column A. And i want to be able to do this with multiple rows with multiple values. Example:

I want to do is search for "&s_kwcid" or anything containing "&s_kwcid" and replace it with blank. So above would then read:

I tried =IF(SUM(COUNTIF(E2,{"&s_kwcid*"}))=1,E2,"") but it didn't work. I tried auto filtering, and using contains &s_kwcid* but it didn't filter out results, but find &s_kwcid did find results for text anywhere in string, so I know the problem is there.
