Return Value Based On Results Of Conditional Formatting

Apr 19, 2012

I have a report that shows when our company has shipments covered by inventory (although you are not seeing the conditional formatting in the table). Columns K:Q represent shipment dates and shipment amounts. Columns D:I represent inventory with Column J being the total inventory. The conditional formatting works to highlight the cells in K:O of when shipments are covered by inventory. I need to be able to return the date (Columns K:Q) for an item (Column B) when a shipment is not covered by inventory.

For example Row 154: all shipments are covered by the amount of inventory. A shipment of 3 on 04/24 is more than covered the 105 pieces of inventory. But for Row 170, the shipment for 480 pieces on 04/23/12 does not have enough inventory to cover.

The result I need to return for row 170 is that 480 pieces are due on 04/23/12 that are not covered.

What formula would I used to return that value?

Conditional Formatting To Return The Following Results If The Criteria Is Met

Jun 19, 2009

I have a conditional format that does not seem to be working for me. Cell B2 has a drop down optionSelect, No, Yes); Cell B3 is supposed to be conditionally formatted to return the following results if the criteria is met:

If B2 is equal to No or Yes then colour should become Yellow
If B3 is >0 then colour should become Blue

The problem is when B3 is greater than 0 it does not change the cell colour to Blue.

B3 Conditional Format #1 is =AND(ISTEXT(B2),B2<>"Select")
turn background to yellow
B3 Conditional Format #2 is =AND(ISNUMBER(B3),B3<>0)
turn background to blue

See attached for spreadsheet with conditional formats

Count Conditional Formatting Results

Aug 22, 2007

i am trying to count some cells in a range that are coloured either Red, Amber or Green. the cell colours are defined using conditional formatting. each cell has different criteria for the conditional formatting, but the outcome will always be one of Red, Amber or Green.

i have used the code that is in the FAQ section (the '=ColorFunction' code) and this works fine if the cells are coloured manually. as soon as conditional formatting applies the colour, the formula seems to stop working (even after manually recalculating the worksheet). i have attached my spreadsheet - i am trying to solve the formulae in cells B21:B23.

Return Text Results Based On 2 Criterion

Oct 6, 2008

I am attempting to create a formula that will, return text results based on 2 criterion.

This is what my sheet looks like

Name Job Full Time / Partime
Bob Admin Full Time
Barry Accounts Part Time
Chris Claims Full Time
Emma Claims Full Time

The formula I have for this is {=INDEX(A1:A4,MATCH(1,(((B1:B4)="Claims")*((C1:C4)="Full Time")),0))}

Which is fine and returns the name Chris, however as you can see from above, Emma also meets the criteria given however, I cannot get Emma to appear also. Is it possible to display more than one entry in a cell/s based on this formula, or am I missing something.

I would use a pivot table to do this, however I need the sheet to be completely automated.

Formula To Return Results Based On 2 Parameters?

Jul 5, 2013

1) I have an invoice form, and need to create a formula that will allow me to calculate a discount IF an item number begins with "C" or "CE".

Example: Item # is in cell F12. (may or may not begin with "C" or "CE")

Item price is in cell J12.

Extended price (qty x price) is in cell K12.

In L12, I need to calculate a discount (from % in fixed cell L9) on the figure in K12 - based on whether or not the Item # in F12 begins with a C or CE.

If it does not begin with C or CE, then L12 needs to equal 100% of K12.

(The 2 parameters I referred to in the title were:

C, followed by a number
CE followed by a number )

2) The biggest part of the dilemma is that the person using this spreadsheet is totally unfamiliar with Excel formulas, spreadsheets in general, and has to send this finished product to a client each week. So I need this to be as simple as possible - which seems to me to be a formula (that can be copied to insert rows, etc. if necessary).

Return Results Based On Referenced Cell

Nov 21, 2006

I am looking at developing a table that has three possible options for different categories, being Yes, No and N/A. A yes score a certain percentage depending on what column it is, and the use of N/A changes the percentage of other scores. (i.e. A yes in column 5.1 = a score of 5, a yes in 5.2 = 5, a yes in 5.3 = 10 and a yes in 5.4 = 15. However if 5.4 is N/A then this amount is diveded amongst the remaining 3, i.e. 5.1 = 10, etc.)

Return Multiple Results Based On Criteria

Dec 1, 2006

Please see the attached sheets.

Here's the issue:

On sheet "master" I have a list of goals in column A.

Each has been assigned to at least one person. Each person will have their own sheet that will capture the goals assigned to them. As an example, see Al's sheet.

I am trying to get Excel to look for all of the goals assigned to AL on the Master sheet and list them nicely onto AL's sheet without out blank rows. (and for each, respectively on their own sheet). I could do this with Pivot Tables if the data were displayed differently, but I have been told that I have to display the goal assignments as shown.

I could use "x"s instead of their names to mark the assignment and I could combine the "goal-achieved expectations" and "goal #s" columns if it helps. I am not supposed to use filters either.

Note: Of course, a goal or an assignment could change on the master sheet, but the assignment is more likely to change.

how this done for AL, I can go ahead and create the other sheets.

Check 10 Different Text Values And Return False For All Of Those In The Conditional Formatting Rule

Sep 13, 2007

Allows me to check like 10 different text values and return false for all of those in the conditional formatting rule. When those are not present, the conditional format is true thus applying the format.

I tried
=NOT(FIND("text1",$A$1,1))
It did not work because I believe this statement doesnt give the rule its TRUE value its looking for.

I am having trouble with this, to clarify I need the below...
Cell has conditional formatting checking for text1 text2 text3...text 10ish and if they are present nothing will happen and if they arent present then format the cell.

EDIT: to clarify, the code should look for either text1 or text2 or text3 so on...

A1: 5
B1: 2
C1: Some random text - this cell has the conditional formula: ="A1>B1"

However, the cell doesn't get formatted. Here is a screenshot and here is the simple workbook.

Conditional Formatting Based On Several Conditions

Oct 11, 2013

I am trying to do some conditional formatting to highlight rows based on several conditions, I don't know if this is possible, but these are the criteria:

AAPL
tt
10/1/2013 11:14:15

GOOG
ll
10/1/2013 11:14:20

[code].....

I want to highlight a row if:

- the difference in time value is < 20 seconds

- the first symbol column is the same

- at least one, but not all of the rows meeting the above criteria contains a value in the second column from a given list (in this example, say tt is on this list)

So if done properly the logic would highlight the first and third rows, but would highlight none if none of the values in column two match my list.

I think the test criteria would go something like this, however I know that there are problems with my row references.

=and(abs($C2-$C3:$C65536)<0.0003,$A2=$A3,match($A2,Sheet1!A:A,0)>0)

Then, I need to copy this conditional formatting down the columns under M to X, but under column H the values will be different, but I still want the same results, values greater than the value under column H then highlight in yellow.

I thought I had the answer but when I tried to copy down, it was making cells yellow that were clearly less than the column H value.

Conditional Formatting Based On Two Criteria (Using VBA)

Apr 7, 2014

how to create VBA code for conditionally formatting a column of dates that have expired. My unique challenge is that I first need to associate the item attached to the date with the expiration date of a particular group. Therefore, I have to first match the Item label with the appropriate group, and then I need to evaluate the expiration dates of both the Group and the Item. If the Item expires before the Group expires, then I need the Item date to be formatted in bold and with a red font.

Attached is a sample spreadsheet.

Thoughts about how to accomplish this with VBA? By the way, VBA is the necessary approach due to the fact that the data is updated several times per day, and all existing data is erased prior to uploading new data.

Conditional Formatting Based Upon Various Dates

Oct 7, 2008

I have a spreadsheet I'm trying to make which will have various cells change color based upon the date entered compared to today's date. Here are the details of it, and what I've tried to do so far:

Various safety tickets that employees acquire have a 3 year expiry date on them. What I want to do is be able to enter in the issue date, and then have the conditional formatting color the cell that contains the date based on the following criteria:

Green = More than 6 months remaining
Yellow = Between 6 months and 30 days remaining
Red = 30 days until expiry

Black = Expired (I wanted to eventually add this one, but Excel 2003 was only allowing me to add 3 conditional formatting conditions, so I just went with the 3 colors. I'm getting Excel 2007 later today, so I might be able to add more with that)

Now here is what I have so far:

3 years = 1095 days, 2.5 years = 913 days, 2 years and 11 months = 1065 days

N3 = 913
N4 = 1065

Conditional Formatting on cell C21

Condition 1 - color Green

=$C21+$N$3>=TODAY()

Condition 2 - color Red

=$C21+$N$4<TODAY()

Condition 3 - color Yellow

=AND($C21+$N$3<TODAY(),$C21+$N$4>TODAY())

Conditional Formatting Based On Now Formula

Feb 19, 2010

My attached spreadsheet is for tracking when certain tasks were completed on each case and figuring the number of days that it takes to complete these tasks.

The task I am needing help in formatting is the Corrections Received field (column E). We need to track the cases that do not have corrections received within 7 days of the changes being requested (Out for Corrections, column D). The issue is that there would not usually be a date entered in the Corrections Received column when we need to look at those cases...because they would not be received yet. In order to not get an extreme default value (like the -40181 or 40922), I entered the =Now() function in column E (except for first case as an example of what this would look like otherwise).

What I was hoping to be able to do is use conditional formatting to look for that Now() formula. If the formula is present, the cell would be highlighted. If a date were entered, even if it was today's date, the fill on that cell would be removed. That way we could tell when the displayed date is a true date and when it is a placeholder until we receive the information.

Currently, it either highlights no matter what the cell includes or it doesn't highlight anything...
