Return Column Number Of Maximum Value From A Table
I have a got a table ( 10x30) with random numerical values.
How can I return a column number with maximum value?
Values will be changed periodically so the maximum number could be in different column each time
Example:
A-B-C-D-E-F-G
1-2-3-4-5-6-7
2-6-8-18-1-1-8
2-5-6-9-12-1-7
The results will be 4.

In attached example, I have 3 columns of fractions with a final row of sumtotals (taken from elsewhere). I test to see which column has the maximum value in each row and allocate the result with the column's heading. Sometimes, two or more columns have the same max value. In this scenario, I wish to select the column heading that has the largest sumtotal.

Maximum Value In A Column In A Pivot Table
I am new to working with Pivot tables, and am working on a data set of survey results. We'd like to build a heat chart into the pivot tables for each column of data. To do this, I need to determine what the maximum and minimum values in each column are, and base the cell coloring on the difference between min and max values by quartile. Ideally, this would be able to update when the column headers change (from a list of departments, to countries for instance).

Vlookup: Search For Value In SECOND Column Of Table Array And Return Value From FIRST
I'm looking for a formula to search for a value in the SECOND (instead of first) column of a table array and return a value in the same row from FIRST (instead of the same or another) column in the table array. Formula would be searching for the unique production order number in the column B and return production line id from the column A. A1 production line_id B1 poduction_order_number A2 L1 A3 L2 A4 L1 B2 505212 B3 504234 B4 505663 I was trying vlookup(504234;B2:A4;2;0) to make formula go search from right columns to the left but then excel is switching the search table to A2:B4 and gives #N/D! One remark-there is no possibility to switch these 2 columns to simplify. I have to leave them as they are.

Find Value In Table & Return Column / Row Header
I am having trouble with getting a value (which is the row and column value) from a set of numbers. I have attached an example table to try and make things clearer. What I have is a table with a set of Row Headers, and Columns Headers all numeric. e.g Columns headed 1, 2, 3, 4, Rows 30, 40, 50 etc. I want to find the 1st occurrence of a value e.g. 1.0 in the table (by 1st Up mean closest to top left), and then give me the value of the Row and Column Header that corresponds to that. So for the example attached, I want to get the row Value 200 and Column 6 from finding the 1st occurrence of the number 1. I have tried various combinations of index and Match etc. But I can't get my head around the fact that the position of the 1st no. 1.0 can change, therefore I can't use any releative positions etc.

Return Last Positive Number In Column
I have a column with zeros, positive numbers, and negative numbers. I need to find the last (bottom) positive number in the column. Ex: Column A has - $50 $0 -$10 $22 $0 -$14 I want a formula or function in B1 that would return $22. However if I add a new row under the -$14 which contains $37, the formula should then return $37. I have been googling all night, and I can't make this work.

Return Column Number Of Cell
I have a Range variable that points to a particular cell. If I wanted the address, I would do, cellName.Address. This returns, for example, "$F$3". If I wanted to have the column "F" as a number (column F would be the 6th column, so 6), how could I do that without storing some kind of array of letters and number equivilants. It would also have to work past the 26th column when the column addresses switch to, like, "AA", "AB" etc.

I have range like (3E:3K) in this range are only 2 different expressions. "Result and " forecast". I wanna look from left to right for the first cell with the string "forecast". And than I want to work with the column of this cell, only this column. How do i do that? Edited I corrected the coordinates. I would like a flexible Formula to Return the Column Number of individual Numeric Labels and their Numeric Value. I have a 2-Row by many Columns chart/ grid layout. My 1st Column, Column Number "1" is Excel Column Letter "F". Numeric Label 17 is housed in Column Number "12" per my chart , its Numeric Value 5 is housed on the next Row - directly below the Numeric Label. Sample Data: ... Scenario: To Return the correct Column Number: locate the Numeric Label 17 and its Numeric Value on the Row below, Numeric Value is 5. The Numeric Value is to be increased by a Value of 1 (one) - NEW Numeric Value = 6. The Column Number Returned should reflect Numeric Label of 17 remains the same but the Numeric Value is increased by one. To Return a Column Number representing the Numeric Label 17 and its original Numeric Value +1 (plus one): the Numeric Label is still 17 but the Numeric Value is NOW 6. From the oringal Column Number that housed Numeric Label 17, that is Column Number "12", SEARCH in Ascending order: moving LEFT from Column Number "12" and using the Numeric Value as the 1st (first) search order and the Numeric Label as the 2nd (second) Ascending search order. SEARCH the Numeric Value Row until the first Numeric Value either equal to 6 or more than 6 is found. Then Return the Column Number of the Column to the Right of that Numeric Value. Required Result: Return the Column Number based on the Numeric Label 17 and the NEW Numeric Value of 6, search in Ascending order - First search order based on Numeric Value 6 - Second search order based on Numeric Label 17. Returned Result should be Column Number 10.

Searching A Column For Specific Text To Return A Number Of Items Found
on one sheet we have a summary of the main list, which includes totals of money recieved, totals of all the different sources (ie, where they heard about us from), the totals of the frequencies they pay (ie, how many donate monthly, quarterly...) ... etc. on the next sheet we have the "main" list of donors, their IDs, amounts, frequency, source ... the totals on the first sheet are updated manually, but i want to change that as there are a great number of errors.

i have a spreadsheet like the following A B C Country Revenue Month 1 UK 10 Jan 2 France 20 Jan 3 US 30 Jan 4 UK 25 Feb 5 US 35 Feb 6 France 5 Jan and so on... So where country = UK, France or US I want to retrieve the MAX revenue from all months and which month it was in. Eg UK max revenue was in Feb of 25. MAXIMUM Function Limit: Return A Value?
What I'm trying to do is get the MAX function to return a value, but that value needs to come before the values reach zero. It's a cubic equation that basically starts, at the beginning of the data range, under 10 then hits zero and ends up near 30 at the end of the data range. The end data range max doesn't matter to me if the data range hits zero along the way. Is there any way to make the MAX function stop at a certain value, or is there another function that could accomplish what I'm trying to do?

Return Cell Address With Maximum Value
I have two columns of numbers in column A & B. In column A I am trying to locate the maximum value and get the cell address of the number next to it in column B. I am currently using this formula to do this ..... =ADDRESS(MATCH(MAX(A1:A4),A1:A4),2,4) It works ok, but if the maximum number is the first value in the column it is returning the last cell address in column B. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Return Data Corresponding To Minimum & Maximum
Please see attached file which is data for horse races (this is a small example of the data i will be working with). I need to find the largest values from the MIN and MAX column (shaded Grey) range for each race. I want to be able to add a function that will allow me to quickly identify which horse has the largest number in both the MIN & MAX columns example on spreadsheet is highlighted RED. It would be handy if it would inform me if the criteria has been met by highlighting it or by placing some text value in an adjacent cell on my spreadsheet i have used the example "Y". It would also be beneficial if that race be deleted in its entirity if there are no horses which meet the criteria above or similary if all other selections within that race be deleted if ther is a horse which meets the criteria. If there is a selection within that race i will need to keep the row that includes the heading which is coloured blue on the attachment. I will be working with 20,000 or more selections at a time so it is important that they can be identified quickly for ease of use. I have tried the functions i know such as MAX and LARGE but this requires me to do alot of work when you consider the ammount of data i'm required to work with.

I have searched your forums and thought I had found a sufficient answer but could not get the vba to work. So any help is greatly appreciated. I am trying to determine a max value from a list then put that value in a cell. Next I want to determine how many times and on what day that max value occured. Return Values In Range Based Upon Relationship To Maximum Value
I am looking to select two values from a range based upon their relationship to the maximum value. In this specific case I am trying to calculate the Quality factor based upon the frequency response of a transducer. So I need to identify the Maximum impedance and its corresponding frequency. I also need to identify the 3db points either side of the maximum impedance. The 3db points are found at 2/3rds of the maximum value of the impedance (Impedance Mag in attached spreadsheet). Calculating the first 3db point isn't overly difficult as I just calculate the value for the 3db point and use the MATCH function to find the closest Impedance value and then work out the corresponding frequency from that. I am stumped as to how to calculate the second 3db point (above the Max impedance value). I have attached a spreadsheet with frequency information in column A, the other columns are used to derive the values found in columns M (Impedance Mag) and N.

I have, on one sheet, a list of incumbent employees that includes the following columns: Job Title [text] and Salary [number]. I am trying to automatically populate a second sheet with columns designating: A list of each unique job title (no duplicates), the maximum salary corresponding to each unique job title, and the minimum salary corresponding to each unique job title. Maximum Number Of Hidden Sheets?
I tried to Google this question but cannot find the answer. What is the maximum number of worksheets that Excel can hide within a workbook? I have a macro which hides all worksheets with the exception of the active worksheet and it has never failed. But this morning I had started working on a workbook containing many sheets and when I ran my HideSheets macro a maximum of 14 sheets hides every time. Is it my code (see below)?

Maximum Number Of Fonts Per Doc?
I am using Excel 2003 and have a spreadsheet that lists 1521 fonts. I am using VBA and looping through the list of font names in column 1 and want to put an example of the font in column 2. I am trapping for error 1004 and using Resume Next. This works fine for 480 lines and then it just stops working. No error message or anything. The only thing I could think of is there might be a maximum number of fonts allowed per spreadsheete, but I would have though I would get an error.

Finding The Maximum Number Before A List Turns Negative
i have the volume of a reservoir in column A for lets say, 2 years, with monthly data (so 24 numbers in my list) I also have some variables that feed into this list such as rainfall (fixed), and population (i.e water use, which i can manually change) if i increase the population too much, the volume of the reservoir will at certain times of the year, fall into negative digits. what i'm looking for, is a cell which works out the maximum value (in whole numbers) for my population, without any of the numbers in the reservoir volume list falling below zero.

I have no problems figuring out SUMIF or SUMPRODUCT with multiple criteria, but I'm trying to help someone with an issue that the second criteria is actually not all-inclusive. Column B - Lots of numbers, the SUM range Column C - Yes and No flags. Y or N C1 = maximum number of matching items to include. So, =SUMPRODUCT((C2:C100="Y")*(B2:B100)) sums up ALL the Yes rows, but the guy wants to restrict it to the last X matches, and put that X factor in C1. So if C1=5, only the last 5 Y matches are included.
