I have a spreadsheet saved. Its a report with formulas in. I have saved this as a master copy and when opening you can only open in read only or enter a password to open to edit. The report is produced monthly, so each moth the master is opened and the user has to save the ss with a new file name.
I want to put VBA code so that when a they open the ss in read only. a popup box appears asking to them to "Save the Report Now" with a save as button. This would then open the Save As window
I Have a tool which will be used online & offline.
I would like a box to appear on the opening of the spreadsheet which asks the user "Are you online?", with options "Yes" & "No", if the user selects "Yes" then a macro (which i have already written) refreshes the spreadsheet.
if the user selects "No", the sheet is not resfreshed.
I have attached a code that prompt the user for a store # then that number would automatically copy to cell A1 and at the same time it saves the file name as what is copied to A1.
This is a good code but the problem is when the file is closed and re-open, it prompts the user again for a store number and when you select 'Cancel' it replaces the store# already stored in cell A1.
What I am trying to accomplish:
1- When the file is re-opened, it should detect cell A1, if it's empty prompt user for store #, if it's not empty skip the prompt screen.
Private Sub Workbook_Open() var1 = InputBox("store#") Range("a1") = var1 var1_filename = var1 & ".xls" ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=var1_filename End Sub
I cannot figure out how to get my error handler to work, or actually, not work. It seems to work fine when there is an error, but the code still gets read even when there was not an error. Basically, I am trying to open a file, which may or may not be there. When it is not there I want a message to pop up informing the user. However, when the file is there and it opens, the error handler still gives the message box. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Private Sub btnOK_Click() Application. ScreenUpdating = False Dim LCSfile As String LCSfile = frmSelectFile.Listbox1.Value On Error Goto ErrHandler Workbooks.Open Filename:=sPath & sDate & "" & LCSfile & "QUANT.CSV" ErrHandler: MsgBox ("File is not quantitated. Please select another file.") Application.ScreenUpdating = True
Firstly... using VBA i'd like to disable any save function to everyone other then me and a colleague on a spreadsheet (The one below).... Is it possible that just the two of us will have the ability to save and no other user?
Secondly... On opening one work book... in this case "Productivity Test" i'd like it to simultaneously open "Productivity Test Back End" both saved in P:MI TeamNew Prod with the back end remaining locked totally.
The reason behind this is these two spread sheet's are linked via sums, productivity test uses the back end as a kind of data source so i'd like "Productivity Test Back End" locked so they cannot see it/amend it..
Maybe i could use a bit of code that updates the link everytime something is used as opposed to having the back end open at all...? What do you think?
The last thing, i have alot of macros that run quickly on my PC, if my manager opens productivity test and uses the spread sheet it appears to run alot slower.
There are alot of tables in Productivity Test that are hidden and only appear when needed while everything else remains hidden. The example below is one buttons code..
ub Selectdsrtablenew()
'Select the correct table for users to view DSR detail'
Is there any way of stream lining the code here to make it smoother as it appears quite a few times in the report for different buttons.. Maybe defining table names?
I have a workbook that has 2 worksheets (Sheet1 and Sheet2). Each sheet has 2 checkboxes and a listbox that has 6 columns. Everything works great until I save and close the workbook. When I reopen, all the selections for the listboxes are gone, however the checkboxes are checked as expected. Why aren't the listbox selections being saved? How do I get them to save? I found something similar in a previous post but it referred to a userform which I am not using.
I have an extensive application which I wrote using Excel 2002 (XP - Version 10). However it will likely be used on anything ranging from 2003 - 1997. When I tested it using Excel 97 it gave me the traditional [annoying] message asking if I was sure I wanted to save it under an earlier version than which it was created.
I want to get rid of this message (a lot of my users aren't the most computer literate and the more annoying messages I can avoid the better!) I tried using:
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
but it doesn't affect this particular message. I need to know how to keep this message from popping up. Please Help.
Under 97 (NOT on my 2002) it also gives a "Do you want to save the changes" message upon closing even though the "DisplayAlerts" is set to false. I'm not sure why this is still coming up.
Application starts with a button on an otherwise empty spreadsheet. Then opens a user form. After I close using a button on the form. My close routine closes the worksheets and workbooks. I then quit the application and I get a message asking if I want save the original spreadsheet.
I have the following code that works fine (although i'm sure you'll think it's a little clumsy), but when I add a save workbook line at the end I get a message that says that an action (presumably the save) will interupt a refresh. My problem is that I cant understand why there is a refresh when the code ends. The data that is being refreshing is big and a number of calculations take place, so that may be something to do with it.
Sub RUN() Application.DisplayAlerts = False Application.DisplayStatusBar = True[code].....
I am using this code to display a message when a range is empty on workbook save. Case "A" gives an error when referring to a range, the second case works fine. How can I change it?
Code:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)Select Case Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("B6").ValueCase "A" If Worksheets("Sheet2").Range("D104:D109").Value = "" Then MsgBox "Cells cannot be empty!" Exit SubCase "B", "D", "F" If Worksheets("Sheet2").Range("D112").Value = "" Then MsgBox "Cells cannot be empty!"Case ""End SelectEnd Sub
I have several workbooks that use macros from my personal macro library (MyExcelAddIns.xlam).
Some of these, especially new ones, get an error message every time I save them: "Privacy warning: This document contains macros, ActiveX controls, ... These may contain information that cannot be removed by the Document Inspector."
Then after I save it once or twice, the message goes away. Why am I getting this message? Why only sometimes? What can I do to get rid of it entirely?
I can't open a file anymore. On opening an exclamation mark message appears telling me the file contains "Too many different cell formats". After clicking "Ok" Excel doesn't continue the opening proces. However I need the info in the file. how to retreive the info in the file?
I have a spreadsheet that data gets exported to from a software program. There is information such as customer name, part number, inquiry number, etc that I'd like to use to develop a log of all my estimates I create for parts. I'd like excel to take the cells I select and insert them into certain cells in the other workbook and automatically save that workbook. This will create a log of all my estimates where I can then link the full estimate to the log. The information will have to go in the next available row. Is there any way I can accomplish this without having to open the other workbook and save the work book each time?
I have a need to open a file from my companies intranet. My current method was to open said file via the method that the recorder gave me. However, I would like ot be able to open a said file without having to start open another workbook.
This is the path: [url]
So the command is this: Workbooks.Open [url]
Links are not actual links
So what I need to know. Is how can I open this file without opening a workbook. I haven't been able to use the VB "Open Statement" to open a file and I don't believe that I've been successfull using the Filesystem object either.
am using Excel 2010 and having issues trying to save a worksheet to a specified file location with the save date....
I have tried several posts form this forum and elsewhere and can't seem to get the macro to do what I want.....
I want to save a 'worksheet' from an open workbook that I use for updating information to the same file path as the workbook with the date the file saved...
I have an expense report, which was originally done in Excel 2003. It still prompts users to open as read only however if they select no, they are not prompted for the password, and it has allowed them to save, so when the next person opens it, they have the previous person's report instead of the clean workbook. I have tried everything to put a password onto it. I know this is really basic stuff, but maybe I am missing a step? I want the end user to be able to make all the changes they want in read only mode and then do a save as, but if the select No when prompted "Open as Read-only?" they should have to put a password in.
What I am trying to do is that I have an excel file with macros and it is a read-only file. In order for the user to save, I want them to only be able to save as a .xlsx file as it disables all macros. If for whatever reason, the user wants to save the file as another .xlsm file, they should be allowed but before they save, a "are you sure you want to save as .xlsm?" message should pop up.
All the options in the save as box should still be available in case they want to save in that particular format. Just that the .xlsx should be the default.
I'm trying to make a macro check if a file has been saved (ever). If so I want the macro to do a regular save (with already esatablished filename and location) before it proceeds with the rest of the macro. If the file hasnt been saved (if it runs from a new workbook) then I want it to pop up the save.as dialog, so that the user can choose the name and location of the file before the macro continues .
I would like to add some icons on the left side of excel open file pane to faciliate my work. Because i need to load some files under the same folder many times a day. Does anybody know how to do that? I've seen people has more icons on the pane before. The defaut setting has only 'History', 'My Documents', 'Favorites', 'Desktop' and ' My nutwork places' on it.
I have a UserForm in which i have inserted a CommandButton. I also have a Table on a Sheet in Excel that i would like to save as PDF.
When i click the CommandButton on the UserForm i would like the SaveAs screen to come up and have the Table (or Used Range in the Excel Sheet) as the selection to be Saved as .PDF format.
Each of the worksheets in my model use A1 as a control cell for any errors and inconsistencies. My aim is to disable save and close commands in case A1 is not equal to 0 in any of the worksheets.
The code I currently use for that purpose is as follows.
I have figured out how to save the workbook using a variable to saveas but I would like to create a new folder to place the new workbook into. I have tried a few things a am not having any luck. I recorded a macro and the code it produced is as follows.
I have a macro that copy one sheet of the Active workbook and sends it via email.
I need to add a code in this sheet so when one opens it from the email, with a command button to be able to save the file to specific, fixed folder on the local network with it’s original file name.
I have a sheet which I would like to back up online every time it is saved.
I have a sub, OnlineFile(), which I have used many times without any problems, which creates a .BAT file to use ftp to upload files onto our server. As arguments, it takes the local file path that you want to upload (or download to), the name of the file as you would like it stored, the online file path, and whether you want to upload the file onto the server, or download it off the server.
It should be very easy to combine the two: what I tried was:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, cancel As Boolean) ThisWorkbook.SaveCopyAs ThisWorkbook.Path & "" & "Rubbish.xls" Call OnlineFile(ThisWorkbook.Path & "" & "Rubbish.xls", "Rubbish.xls", "wwwrootexcelfilesMasters", "Upload") Kill ThisWorkbook.Path & "" & "Rubbish.xls" End Sub
Every time I ran this, the file got uploaded correctly, but Excel had a series of problems. Often the code ran fine the first time it was run, but crashed the second time round.
After a fair bit of troubleshooting, I found that the problem came about when the file was trying to save itself - i.e. after the end of the sub. If you pause any macros from running, it still saved fine, but when the code ran, it found errors, froze or closed excel.
My thought at this point was that the code was fragmented or something. I made a new sheet, and retyped just the relevant bits of code (i.e. the BeforeSave sub, the OnlineFile sub and created the form called by OnlineFile). The problem persisted.
I've come up with a workaround for this now (which uses the same OnlineFile sub & form, and works fine), but it's driving me crazy - why does this cause excel to die? Particularly on the second time through? The code seems far too simple to cause such problems - is there a bug in Excel perhaps (I'm using Excel 2000 on Windows XP).
I am trying to disable the save and save as function using a macro, i know that this in its self is quite simple but i am making VBA create a new workbook and i want this (nameless) workbook to have the save feature disabled.
