View 3 RepliesI wish to send a message when a worksheet is manually opened, but not when it is activated from within VBA.
The following code does not work, and I am open to suggestions
Private Sub Worksheet_Open() ....
I have a spreadsheet saved. Its a report with formulas in. I have saved this as a master copy and when opening you can only open in read only or enter a password to open to edit. The report is produced monthly, so each moth the master is opened and the user has to save the ss with a new file name.
I want to put VBA code so that when a they open the ss in read only. a popup box appears asking to them to "Save the Report Now" with a save as button. This would then open the Save As window
I Have a tool which will be used online & offline.
I would like a box to appear on the opening of the spreadsheet which asks the user "Are you online?", with options "Yes" & "No", if the user selects "Yes" then a macro (which i have already written) refreshes the spreadsheet.
if the user selects "No", the sheet is not resfreshed.
What is the best way to do this?
What is the code to enable macros upon opening a workbook and avoid receiving the message "Security Warning-Macros have been disabled" in Excel 2007?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI cannot figure out how to get my error handler to work, or actually, not work. It seems to work fine when there is an error, but the code still gets read even when there was not an error. Basically, I am trying to open a file, which may or may not be there. When it is not there I want a message to pop up informing the user. However, when the file is there and it opens, the error handler still gives the message box. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Private Sub btnOK_Click()
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
Dim LCSfile As String
LCSfile = frmSelectFile.Listbox1.Value
On Error Goto ErrHandler
Workbooks.Open Filename:=sPath & sDate & "" & LCSfile & "QUANT.CSV"
ErrHandler:
MsgBox ("File is not quantitated. Please select another file.")
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub
I can't open a file anymore. On opening an exclamation mark message appears telling me the file contains "Too many different cell formats". After clicking "Ok" Excel doesn't continue the opening proces. However I need the info in the file. how to retreive the info in the file?

Is it possible to have a text box and a macro button that when a user enters a name of a folder (or part of the name) on say the c: drive it takes you there? Example being i have a folder called Alcan Inc on my c: drive, so i type in the text box alcan and click the macro. it then opens a windows explorer screen with the folder open.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with a worksheet that I created. Apparently, every time that I go to open it, it gives me a Grey blank screen. Yet, I know the worksheet is behind this Grey screen. I went to full screen and I can see the work sheet in full view, but it always opens in this Grey screen. I'm not sure why its doing this, no other worksheets open in this matter. I have tried reinstalling excel and it still didn't fix this problem. But it is only happening with one particular worksheet. I'm sure it is just a setting that I might have changed, but I can't figure it out. The file isn't corrupt because the macros still work, I tested them.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem to use the macro for opening a specific worksheet in a workbook. My plan to setup the workbook to open the first worksheet no matter which worksheet that was last saved and close.
What i have in mind is like below macros but it is not working.
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Worksheets("Main").Activate
End Sub
Attached is the sample for the workbook. Test file.xlsm
Anyone who opens my sheet, has to feed his/her name which will be appeared in a particular cell.I am using the below code.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this VBA work fine for me but I want to chage this to when it copy then it select active sheet and active cell.
Sub test()
Dim wb As Workbook, wb2 As Workbook
Dim ws As Worksheet
[Code]....
I have the following code, which I use to open up a .xls file generated from Crystal Reports:
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Dim fexport1 As String ' variables for the exported file
Dim fexport2 As String
Dim wb1 As String 'variables to change between the opened workbooks
Dim wb2 As String
strTemp = "Please Choose The Exported File"
MsgBox strTemp
fexport1 = Application.GetOpenFilename("Excel Files (*.xls), *.xls)")
If InStr(fexport1, "False") = 0 Then
Workbooks.Open fexport1
wb1 = ActiveWorkbook.Name
Else
strTemp = "Operation Canceled"
End If
The problem is that Crystal Reports generates the file with an invalid worksheet name (it contains a backslash) and I do not have access to modify the Crystal Report. Althought the file can be automatically repaired by Excel when manually opened, the macro chokes and the "Application.DisplayAlerts = False" does not fix it. The only solution I can think of is renaming the worksheet without opening the file.
if you open a workbook & choose not to enable macros, is there any way to later change your mind & set macros to enabled without having to close & reopen the workbook?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have software that exports to an excel file. The files are one or two page reports. The way the software dumps the reports into excel, it comes out looking pretty rough. The rows and columns aren't spaced very well, the fonts look like garbage, and nobody likes them.
I would like to apply formatting changes to these reports automatically without the end user having to do anything. So as soon as the document is opened up it bolds the column headers, adjusts column widths etc. The reports are auto generated so no formatting can be done when the reports are made.
There may also be different formatting done to different reports. The files will come out named something like, "Report_A_DDMMYYY.xls, Report_B_DDMMYYY.xls," etc. Report A, and Report B will likely need different formatting.
I'm not opposed to using VBA or whatever might be necessary to make this happen. I can learn anything I need to pretty quickly, I just don't know where to start with this.
I have a workbook that contains worksheets whose sheetnames are specific to each day of the month ie: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th, and so on up to 31st. I am trying to write an workbook open procedure to check the day of the month and match it to the relevant worksheet so it will open to that day. for example if opened today being the 25th, i want the code to unhide sheet named 25th and select it, whilst all other sheets bar one is hidden.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to have an operation run when opening the Workbook. The UserForm opens fine, but I get an error when the GoButton_Click sub runs. The error file is not very comprehensive.
The user is promoted to 'Delete' or 'Cancel' before the sheet is deleted. I do want to select 'Delete' for the user, but I'm not sure how to do this.
The error mentioned occurs after the user selects 'Delete'. The error is:
Run-time error '-2147417848 (80010108)':
Automation error
The object envoked has disconnected from its clients.

I have been browsing the web trying to find a worksheet event that will automatically open a message box if the user tries to delete the sheet. Is this possible??
PS I do not want them to delete the sheet, so perhaps a message box with a a cancel button
How do you generate an error message that states "You are not authorized to delete this worksheet" any time a user attempts to delete the specified worksheet? This message also has to block the user for deleting the worksheet.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to add a message box that will appear when you activate a worksheet in a workbook. This is what I have, but it's not working.
Private Sub Workbook_SheetActivate(ByVal Sh As Object)

Else

I have a workbook with two worksheets, "Main" and "Control".
Both of them are with hidden tabs (unchecked "show sheet tabs").
On worksheet "Main" I have command button which opens worksheet "Control".
The assigned makro is: Sheets("Control").Select
The problem is: when I open "Control" and close after that the workbook, the next time when I open the workbook "Control" pops-up instead of "Main" even though I do not save it.
1. I need macro on "Main" which will allow me to open "Control".
2. Regardless I "Save" or "Don't Save" "Control" when selected and workbook is closed, to open the workbook always displaying worksheet "Main".
I use Excel 2007 (at home) & 2010 (at office).
How to show via a message box the difference between rows 2 and 3 on a worksheet (row 1 is headers).
In the message box per the attached workbook, i should only see something like the following....
Drawing Rev was A is now B
Planner was Joe is now Fred
The attached example is abbreviated, the actual data will span multiple columns (approx. 30 - 40)
I'm using the code below to form part of staff resource spreadsheet, but I'm having a little difficulty with a piece of the script.
Code:
Option Explicit
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim rInt As Range, res As Variant
Dim cell As Range
Sheets("Input").Protect "password", UserInterFaceOnly:=True, AllowFiltering:=True
[Code] ....
The piece of the script which I'm having difficulty with is this:
Code:
For Each cell In Range("B7:B400")
If cell.Value = "No" Then
MsgBox "If " & cell.Offset(0, 1).Value & " has left R&D, please remember to delete any future resource forecasts"
End If
Next
When the cell value has changed to 'No' the pop up message appears, but for some strange reason the message is shown 5 times, despite their being only one record.The other problem I have is if I add another record and change the value to 'No' in column B, the message is shown twice, once for the previous record and the second for the new.
I have the following code that should pop up a message when column E is left blank when "other" is typed into column D. But I cannot get it to work.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim rng As Range, LastRow As Range
Dim x As Integer
If Target.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub
Set rng = Range("F:F")
If Intersect(Target, rng) Is Nothing Then Exit Sub
If Target = "" Then
For x = 1 To 5000
If Cells(x, 4).Value = "Other" And Cells(x, 5).Value = "" Then
Answer = MsgBox("If other, please state", vbOKCancel, "CONFIRMATION")
End If
Next x
End If
End Sub
I am using the before double click event on a protected sheet. When the event fires the first thing the procedure does is unprotect the sheet, does stuff and then it applies protection again at the very end.
Regardless I still get the 'Function is not available on a protected worksheet' message. How can I stop the message? Any ideas? If no standard approach is available does anyone know how I can hook this using API?
I've written some VBA which creates worksheets to temporarily store data in. At the end of the code I delete the worksheets. However, for some reason I am getting a message box which asks for confirmation. How can I avoid the user of my report having to click OK for each of the worksheets which need to be deleted?
