Select/Delete Worksheet Text Boxes Using VBA On Active Sheet
Nov 10, 2009
I could use some assistance in creating a macro that will delete all and only text boxes on the active sheet. Some text boxes will be empty, but I still wish for them all to be deleted. Through searching the forums I see a similiar code, but it deletes all shapes on the active sheet:
You can add shapes and text boxes (text box: A movable, resizable container for text or graphics. Use text boxes to position several blocks of text on a page or to give text a different orientation from other text in the document.) to a worksheet by using the Drawing toolbar.
Did you know that if you click the text box button, then click on a spreadsheet (inserting a blank text box), then click off the text box, a small blank text box will remain hidden from view on your spreadsheet? Once hidden, the only way to find it is to slowly move your cursor over the Text Box edge, and watch the cursor momentarily change shape. Did you also know that if you copy or fill down the cells behind that text box, it will make as many copies of itself as you made for the cell? Not too dis-similar from a virus.
Imagine what would happen if you unknowingly had some of these text boxes on your main calculation sheet (200 columns by 2000 rows); one where you regularly copied formulae/cells for a period of over four years. Yes, (judging by their names e.g. "Text Box 29413") the thriving population of these invisible beasties is now in the neighbourhood of thirty thousand! The damn things are worse than fleas; and they're impairing the function of the whole workbook.
Help! Would someone please provide a VBA macro to find, select and delete these little devils from the spreadsheet (just this one spreadsheet)?
I need to cycle and extract row data from the A, B and D columns and copy it into another worksheet while maintaining the copied data structure. Right now I am manually selecting the data....
I have a spreadsheet with over 20 tabs - each containing 6 text boxes containing financial commentary. Each month, the tabs are 'overpasted' with the latest month equivalents. This results in the latest month's text boxes sitting on top of the previous month's. I would like to attach functionality that deletes all the text boxes at the start of the monthly cycle - so the 'overpasting' exercise starts with a spreadsheet that contains no text boxes. I have been unsuccessfull with my attempts because each text box has a unique number - which changes every month. Does any VBA script exist to delete all the text boxes in a workbook or tab?
For reasons that are too longwinded to go into, there is no way around the overpasting set-up as summarised above (I recognise this is far from the ideal solution).
I am trying to select a group of cells in an inactive worksheet from code in a module but I keep getting a run-time error 9 message and I cant seem to find the syntax problem.
I pasted my code below and the error occurs in the last line before the end sub statement.
I want DELETE the rows that contains 0 (zero or -) in column F (SALDO BRUTO), when I click the Button (Clear). And How I can copy from this sheet to a new sheet in this workbook, but the names of new sheet automatic rename to next date or 2, and next when I click the Button "Copy to New Sheet".
I am not sure why this code won't delete, I can't believe excel requires the sheet to be active to delete from. It will only work if the .activate line is included.
How can you delete from another worksheet without first switching to it?
I have an active x control command button on the same sheet as some shapes (lines,circles) which are generated from some parameters. I want to be able to delete the current shapes so I can plot the next shape. Below is the delete shapes part of the code, not sure how to complete the code.
Currently, the box is getting deleted as well as the shapes
Code:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() Dim line1_Beginx As Single, line1_beginy As Single, line1_endx As Single, line1_endy As Single Dim line2_Beginx As Single, line2_beginy As Single, line2_endx As Single, line2_endy As Single
I have a userform with a multi select listbox and 7 textboxes and a sheet with all the data on called "Metdata"
See "Metadata" sheet data below:
I want to:
1. Populate the Listbox1 with the data from column A, which starting at cell A3 and down until cell/row is blank. In the example "Metadata" sheet below I only two rows are present but that will increase to 200+ rows.
listbox1 = data from column A starting A3.
2. When the user selects a single item in the listbox1, I want the 6 textboxes to be populated with the data from the other columns related to the row selected as follows:
textbox1 = column B - starting cell B3 textbox2 = column C - starting cell B3 textbox3 = column D - starting cell B3 textbox4 = column E - starting cell B3 textbox5 = column F - starting cell B3 textbox6 = column G - starting cell B3
Every time the user changes the item selected in the listbox1, I want the textboxes to be populated with the data from the corresponding row selected.
3. When the user selects more that one item from the listbox I want all the textboxes to be locked = true and textbox7 = "Multiple files Selected"
Obviously when a single selection is made from listbox1 that all textboxes are unlocked for use....
Replace specific text within a defined range without having to select the sheet. I tried the following but this is obviously not the way to go.
Sub Open_Calls_Rename_Organizations() With Sheets("Open Calls").Range("Organizations") Cells.Replace What:="Institute Technology Code", Replacement:="ITC", LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False, ReplaceFormat:=False End With End Sub
I am trying to set a macro that will delete a sheet which the spreadsheet user types the name of the sheet into a dialog box rather than go to the actual sheet and delete the sheet.
I have a button on say, sheet1 with text that I want to change after a certain action takes place; however, I was trying to change this text without switching sheets. (switching sheets isn't a big deal, I'm mainly trying to do it my way for the practice). I'm able to select the button on the other sheet without actually switching sheets, but when it comes to changing it's text I get an error. Here is the code I tried:
Sub macro1 () Worksheets("sheet2").Select Worksheets("sheet1").Shapes("Button 2").Select Selection.Characters.Text = "Done" End Sub
Problem with this is it gives cell A1 on sheet2 the "done" text. I also tried this...but it gives the error.
Sub macro1 () Worksheets("sheet2").Select Worksheets("sheet1").Shapes("Button 1").Select With Worksheets("sheet1").Shapes("Button 1") .Characters.Text = "Done" End With End Sub
I would like to create macro, where it would on macro run copy text from active cell and find that value in another sheet (in column H) and select that cell.
I seem to running into dead ends with each previous post concerning this similar idea, despite brave efforts of kind people . . .
So here is another thought: As the title suggests, can one help me with code that would take the value in (say) Sheet1A1 (Say Harry) and use that value to search for a sheet with that name (Harry) in the same workbook and then link to that sheet, cell A1 (Harry!A1)?
The other posts are here, should you want to know, but they differ as far as the linking method goes:
Post 1, Title: Newly created Tab Names placed as Hyperlink on Content Sheet Newly created Tab Names placed as Hyperlink on Content Sheet
Post 2, Title: Automatically redirect hyperlink when cell value changes Newly created Tab Names placed as Hyperlink on Content Sheet
I use "ActiveWindow.ScrollWorkbookTabs Position:=xlFirst" to display all available sheets in a workbook. But can the worksheet of the first tab (i.e. at the far left) be automatically selected after the workbook is opened?
I am wanting to configure approx 100 drop down boxes to all point to the same range of data, approx 40 names, but once the name has been selected, none of the other drop down boxes will be able to select that name.
eg. range: Dave Mike John Steve
select Dave in drop down box in cell B5. Next cell, B7, I want a drop down box without Dave in it. If i then change my mind, and select Steve in cell B5, it will automatically adjust cell B7 to allow Dave as he is now no longer selected in cell B5.
When I copy the tab and change some of the data within the cells, I want the macro refer to the chart on the current tab and the values in the current tab - as currently it refers to only "Chart 2" and the values in the tab 'Figure 2 - WE OPH'.
I've tried changing the sheet name to ActiveSheet.name but that doesn't seem to work.
I have a UserForm that I want to use as a “Print Selection Page” using check boxes to make selection or multiple selections of pages to print from different spreadsheets but same work book.
I have a worksheet containing code to hide itself when the sheet is deselected:
Private Sub Worksheet_DeActivate() Sheet16.Visible = xlSheetVeryHidden End Sub
After unhiding this sheet and modifying it, I copy it. This new copy becomes the 'production' copy, and the self-hiding sheet is blanked, leaving me with a hidden blank template and a new sheet. However, the self-hiding code is copied along into the new sheet. I'm looking for a way to delete the sheet code from the copy. The best I've found is how to remove a module from the workbook.
Sub New_Sheet() ActiveSheet.Copy After:=Sheets(1) ActiveSheet.Name = Range(" F8").Value Sheet16.Visible = True Sheet16.Select Range("B13:F22").ClearContents Sheets(2).Select ActiveSheet.Shapes("Button 1").Delete Range("A8").Select ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintArea = Range("A1:R35").Address Call Sort_Sheets End Sub
I am trying to select a shape in a cell and place a cell reference into the shape. I know the cell address, but do not know the shape reference. (The row that the cell and shape reside came from copying the row from another sheet and inserting it into the current sheet). I can not seem to come up with the correct code to accomplish this. Right now I have:
Where r+1 is the row where the line finally resides after insertion and "AW" is the column to the right of the cell where the shape resides.
I have tried to put the cell reference into the shape at the location where it is copied from but the reference is not dynamic and I can not seem to get it to be. Another issue that will arise is that the rows in the new sheet will probably be sorted and I question if the cell reference will follow the shape's new location.
