Selecting Cells Based On Textbox Entry
Oct 12, 2009
I have a user form with some option buttons (1,5,10,etc...) that are used so the user can select a given number of cells they want selected. My last option button is labled Other(optOther) and has a textbox next to it(txtOther).
What I am trying to do is give the user the option to either select one of the given numbers or be able to enter their own number. The data will then be extracted from one worksheet to another. I have all the coding for the optiong buttons with the given numbers, just cant figure the textbox one out.
My data starts on B5, so what i am trying to do is when the user enters number n, i would need data from B5:B(n+4).

I have a workbook with 3 worksheets which contains a single spreadsheet where the user enters data and 2 worksheets containing all the named ranges and formulas(divided up by product model) used on the data entry worksheet. What I've been trying to accomplish is to choose one worksheet based on which product model I select on the data sheet.

I have a row of dates in row 2 (all sequential, from Nov through to June next year)
I have a row of number entries in row 3 (to correspond with the date in row 2 it was entered on).
I want to be able to add a new entry (a number) into a text box, click a macro button, which makes the text box input be moved into the cell underneath todays date (so every day the cell will move one column along)
I've managed to make myself a textbox, and a macro button, but I'm stuck with how to make it all work.

I am inserting a subtotal above my data set, the first cell that this subtotal takes place is "R1", then I have an unknown number of subtotals going right, depending on the number of months FCSTed by my sales managers.
Attached you will find a subset of the data and you will see that I need to select "S1 : iLastColumn(1)".

i have the following formula which counts various cells containing dates and i need to add in a count for 1 cell, BV21 but it needs to count 3 if theres a date and 0 if the cell is empty or reads NA
=COUNT(AS21:AX21,BH21:BN21,BR21:BU21,BW21:BZ21)+
(COUNT(AY21,BB21,BE21,BO21)>0)
+(COUNT(AZ21,BC21,BF21,BP21)>0)+(COUNT(BA21,BD21,BG21,BQ21)>0)
+IF(CB21>0,CB21,0)+IF(CD21>0,CD21,0)+IF(AP21="Y",2)
might be simple to some but it really has me stumped.

I have a table like this:
Book, Loaned to, Date
A Tale of 2 Cities, John, 1/1/2010
Oliver Twist, Mary, 2/3/2011
Great Expectations, James, 4/6/2011
Oliver Twist, Greg, 6/2/2010
I want to make it such that, when I input the name of the book, it will tell me the person whom I lent it to last and the date of the transaction. Preferably, this should be done without any assumptions on how the table is ordered. For example:
Book= Oliver Twist
Loaned to= Greg
Date= 6/2/2010

I was hoping there was an alternative to having to use so many named ranges for each sublist (there would many sublists in the actual workbook). Anyway, I'm a little uncertain about the code you posted - do the LIST and SUBLIST codes go in Source in Data Validation, or in Source in Dependent Validation Lists Based On Header Values? Can you give me a bit more instruction on this? Also, I'm trying to use the following code to color cells upon a change in value in V1 or V2, but can't get it to work. Can you kindly tell me what's wrong with it?
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Target.Address <> "V1" Or "V2" Then Exit Sub
Select Case [V1].Value
Case "A"
Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 40
Case "B"
Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 35
Case "C"
Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 36
Case "D"
Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 34
Case "E"
Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 19
Case "F"
Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 24
End Select
End Sub

I have a spreadsheet where there are two columns for the user to enter data in, but they can only select one column. I want to lock the second cell if data is entered in the first. I can't find a way from validation to do this. Is there another way via VBA (stupid question, I know... VBA does everything but scratch your butt)

I have the following code
VB:
For Each cell In Range("D8:D11")
If cell.Value <= Range("M2").Value Then
Cells(cell.Row, 13).Value = Me.TextBox1.Value
.....
The code works to where if D8 > M2, then a cell in N2:EK2 is populated with the textbox value if D8 = a column in N2:EK2 Unlike above, the textbox value for each cell in range D8:D11 is written seperately to it's appropriate row BUT to following occurs: If row 8 user input: textbox1.value = "name1", then the appropriate cell in row 8 will contain "name1" But if row 9 user input: text1.value = "name2", the appropriate cell in row 9 will contain "name2" AND the "name1" in row 8 will change to "name2" How do recognize these as separate entities without having to create a new userform/textbox for each case?

I currently have a huge data sheet with multiple columns of information. It contains a list of projects organized by columns with information pertaining to each project. I've named this worksheet data.
On another sheet I've named Present, I'm trying to find a way to reference a single project at a time using a drop down list. The Present Sheet has a list of characteristics fields that need to be filled with information from "data" worksheet. I want the characteristics to change whenever I choose another project name from the drop down list.

I want to create a monthly timesheet which contains 9 columns for
(Date, Day, Project no., Activity, Time In, Time Out, Total Hours, OT Hours, Remarks)
I have used IF Function to calculate Total Hours & OT hours automatically. Time IN & Time OUT, Project No., will be entered manually on daily basis.
Weekday function is used in the Day column to return the corresponding day of the date in the Date column.
Name of the Month and Year will be manually entered in the designated cells I3 and I4 respectively.
Now the solution I am looking for is, the dates should be automatically entered in the Date column (in cells A8 to A38) based on the Month & Year entered in cells I3 & I4. Dates of the corresponding month of the year should only be filled in. (If a month is not having 29, 30 or 31st day, the corresponding cells should be left blank. i.e. nothing should be displayed in the corresponding cells). I am looking for some sort of formula to enter in the cells of Date column (A8 to A38) achieve this. I have searched the forum and could not find anything which could at least give me an idea about the kind of function or formula to be used.
Attached here is the time sheet I am trying to create.

I've got a software test plan that has test cases w/ individual pull-downs to select result states (All individually color-coded thanks to a macro). If any state is selected other than "Pass" or "Untested", a text entry feild appears two rows beneath the test case for additional notes and information regarding what behavior occurred when the test was done.
I need a way to a.) Automatically select this text field once any state other than "Pass" or "Untested" is selected in the pull-down, and b.) Require text entry in the field before the user can proceed to the next test case. (ideally w/ accompanying custom error message describing what information is required.)
I've pasted my macro code below: ...

I have a spreadsheet with 'due date' for returns in column L and 'received date' for returns, in the adjacent column M.
I would like to get the due date to turn red when it is overdue, ie. the date in the cell has arrived and no return was submitted. By trawlling the forum, I managed to accomplish this with the following in conditional formatting:
Cell value is less than or equal to =TODAY()
All's great.....but - I would like the date to turn back to black if I enter a date in the adjacent received column, column M.
In other words, I want to flag a problem if the due date has passed, but once I receive the return and enter the date I receive it, i would like the due date entry to revert back to the original formatting ie. black. So only the outstanding returns are highlighted.

making a macro that will scan for duplicates, length & empty cells.
I have the sample file below that does conditional formatting but it doesnt help as much because I want to show the reason for the highlight's on a comment instead.
sample file :
file that might help out:
checks would be:
column A - duplicates and/or length should not be over 100 characters
column B - duplicates
column F - should only contain 2 comma's(or 3 keywords)
all columns - check if no entries are found(empty cells)

I need a few of my textboxes to not accept entries of greater than 40, Also need a message box warning to popup if this is done. I've seen some examples that are vaguely similar, but not quite what I need. I already have the following in place to limit characters:
Private Sub TextBox1_KeyPress(ByVal KeyAscii As MSForms.ReturnInteger)
Select Case KeyAscii
Case Asc("0") To Asc("9")
Case Asc(".")
If InStr(1, Me.TextBox1.Text, ".") > 0 Then
KeyAscii = 0
End If
Case Else
KeyAscii = 0
End Select
End Sub
Can I add to this or do I need a different sub?

I have a user form that has a combobox, two textboxes, and a button on it. When the form is loaded, the combobox fills with data from a worksheet I created. THe worksheet has a column with the item names, and another column with the quanity of each item. The combobox is filled with the item names. SO far I have this done. My issue is that when the user selects an item from the combobox, and enters a quantity in to the first textbox, and then clicks the button, I want the quantity in the textbox to add to the quantity cell that the part number from the combobox references to. Then I want this new quantity to show in the cell and the second textbox.

I have created a userform with a texbox and a "continue" button. In my macro I first ask the user to input name, date, etc then I have a line that says "frmDiscrepancies.Show". This code shows the userform but I am unable to type anything into the textbox. How do I activate the textbox so that I can type in it? Of course the next step is to be able to click on the command button "continue" and have it continue with the macro...

I am designing a from with a variable number of titles. The user should be able to insert a title into a column by typing in the title that he wants into a text box, and pressing a command button that I have created ( named add). The problem arises when I try to get the text to lie vertically as opposed to horizontally (in the cell, not as a text box. If this can only be done as a textbox, let me know). Is there any way to do this?

Textbox and SpinButtons, there is code for changing the date in a textbox by using a spinbutton. I have tried to use some variation of that for the purpose of changing time but to no avail. What my intention is, is that if someone enters 12:00 into TextBox that SpinButton_Up or SpinButton_Down can change the time to 12:01... or 11:59... respectively, and so on.

In my form I have the user enter in the current date in Textbox1. My program is designed only to work in 2009 so I want to check to make sure the 1) the date is in 2009 and 2) textbox1 is not empty. If it is empty then it displays a message box with "Not a Valid Date. Please Enter Date as MM/DD/YYYY. Date has to be in 2009" - this doesn't work. Second, if the date is outside of 2009 it is to display a meeage box saying "Date has to be in 2009".
Here is my current code which is not working.
Private Sub TextBox1_Exit(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)
If TextBox1 = vbNullString Then Exit Sub
If IsDate(TextBox1) Then
Else
MsgBox "Not a Valid Date. Please Enter Date as MM/DD/YYYY. Date has to be in 2009" ...

A search for duplicates should start and a message should appear " duplicate found" if found, otherwise continue to TextBox 2 for further entry of information.

I'm learning 'on-the-job' to code VBA macros and about a week ago I asked a colleague to test (UK/Australian) date entry into a textbox on a userform. I wanted to ensure users can enter virtually any acceptable date format. About 10 minutes after sending the colleague the workbook, she advised that inputting 29 February and a year that is not a leap year had the effect of showing the textbox date in reverse and transferring that date to the workbook with the year indicated as "29" eg. 06-Feb-29.
Since then, I've spent a good deal of time seeking a correction to the code. I've tried scripts for 'If IsLeapYear' with the 'MonthLength = 29' etc, various other if statements and shuffling the original date order of my code. The unadulterated code is below. Does anyone have an answer (other than an Error Handler with a msgBox, informing the user that the date format is wrong)?
Private Sub txtMonth_BeforeUpdate(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)
Dim dDate As Date
dDate = DateSerial(Year(Calendar1), Month(Calendar1), Day(Calendar1))
dDate = txtMonth.Value
txtMonth = Format(dDate, "dd-mmm-yy")
On Error Goto EndMacro
Exit Sub
EndMacro:
MsgBox "The date format you've entered is not a valid format!"
txtMonth.SetFocus
On Error Resume Next
End Sub

(if not - showes message - " does not exist") for example: it found the value "Dainna" (which was typied in textbox1) and copied it to E13. i want the macro to keep on to the next cell (in the row where Dainna's in- B3) and copy the age to F14.
