Populating A Worksheet After Selecting A Drop Down List Entry
Aug 31, 2009
I currently have a huge data sheet with multiple columns of information. It contains a list of projects organized by columns with information pertaining to each project. I've named this worksheet data.
On another sheet I've named Present, I'm trying to find a way to reference a single project at a time using a drop down list. The Present Sheet has a list of characteristics fields that need to be filled with information from "data" worksheet. I want the characteristics to change whenever I choose another project name from the drop down list.

I currently have showing 800 suppliers in a List Box... sadly when having to search for a sepcific supplier this seems to be very fustrating and time comsuming for people in the Company.
I have tried the method of copying all of the Supplier above the list, so it can do an AutoComplete filter, but the data needs to be exact.
What i would really like is if i was to type the letter "V" in the cell, it would be able to provide me with a list of the "V" suppliers in a list.

I wanted to create a drop down list where after I make my selection, it will automatically take me to the cell range (same worksheet) assigned to each member in the drop down list.
(E.g. If I select "Accounting" from the drop down menu it will automatically take me to cell A94 - See attachement)
Furthermore, could it be possible that after my selection in the drop down menu, only the specific range (corresponding to my selection) will show up and the rest of rows will just hide?

I'm trying to create a drop down list which returns values based on what has been selected in the previous drop down list in the adjacent cell, e.g. if 'Apples' is selected in the previous cell then you should only be able to select from 'Gala, Granny Smith', or if 'Oranges' is selected you should only be able to select 'Seville, Blood Orange'. Is there a formula which would do this, or can I use a pivot table somehow? I'm totally stumped.

I need to have a drop down list which displays a different set of values depending upon the value selected by a previous drop down list. ie. (drop down box 1)= x, y, z. (drop down box 2)= either x1, x2, x3, or y1, y2, y3, or z1, z2, z3. I can produce a single drop down box thats not a problem but linking several drop down boxes is beyond me .

I am creating a form where the user chooses a Region from a drop down list and a Level from another drop down list. I have a cell I want to populate with the amount pertaining to the Region and Level from a seperate spreadsheet within the workbook.
The levels for each region go from 1 to 12 and there are 4 regions from A to D. I have separated each region and named them GradeA, GradeB, etc.

I have built a data entry form (Input tab) and have code populating a table (Table tab). Currently both are in the same book, but I would like to house them in separately.
What is the proper VBA syntax for this? Will both books need to be open in order to populate the table?
The 'real' data is hosted on sharepoint and is getting darn big. The result is problems opening the doc and looong save times. My thought was to have the secretaries doing data entry open a single sheet (Input Form) which will then populate the data in another sheet. I'm dreaming, aren't I...
I know Access would solve everything, but for cost reasons I am stuck with Excel.

I've created a spreadsheet that has two drop down lists. Based on what the user selects from the first list, the second list is populated. It's working great except for the items in the first list that use special character, such as a -, or &. If necessary I can upload a small example of how I have my sheet set up, but I think I found it on this site!

I am having a sheet where I keep track of when online surveys have been sent to users. The users enail address (column K) may be on the list for several times, but I need to make sure that there is at least a 7 days pause between sending the first mail and the second, depending on the visit date (column G).If there are less than 7 days between two entries with the same email address, the user is not qualified for taking another survey.
I was thinking to write an IF formula which returns either 1 or 0 and then let conditional formatting highlight and HIDE the row via a VBA loop.

Is there a formula that will allow me to look for the existence of any number value in a row of one worksheet and then return a specific number value in a cell on another worksheet? For example, if the formula finds any number value it will always return the number 15 to a cell on another worksheet.

I have a table like this:
Book, Loaned to, Date
A Tale of 2 Cities, John, 1/1/2010
Oliver Twist, Mary, 2/3/2011
Great Expectations, James, 4/6/2011
Oliver Twist, Greg, 6/2/2010
I want to make it such that, when I input the name of the book, it will tell me the person whom I lent it to last and the date of the transaction. Preferably, this should be done without any assumptions on how the table is ordered. For example:
Book= Oliver Twist
Loaned to= Greg
Date= 6/2/2010

I have a user form with some option buttons (1,5,10,etc...) that are used so the user can select a given number of cells they want selected. My last option button is labled Other(optOther) and has a textbox next to it(txtOther).
What I am trying to do is give the user the option to either select one of the given numbers or be able to enter their own number. The data will then be extracted from one worksheet to another. I have all the coding for the optiong buttons with the given numbers, just cant figure the textbox one out.
My data starts on B5, so what i am trying to do is when the user enters number n, i would need data from B5:B(n+4).

I have two sheets in one workbook; one has a list of names in column A (136 of them) and another is a master list with all the names of people who work for the company (over 2000). Sheet 1 and Sheet 2 respectively. I need to populate columns B-E in Sheet 1 with the data in columns B-E in Sheet 2, but only for the names that match in column A. I've tried applying filters but can't get to the data I need for some reason. The names are formatted the same way in both sheets (Last, First). In Sheet 2 the names are links but in Sheet 1 they aren't; not sure if that's important.

I've got a software test plan that has test cases w/ individual pull-downs to select result states (All individually color-coded thanks to a macro). If any state is selected other than "Pass" or "Untested", a text entry feild appears two rows beneath the test case for additional notes and information regarding what behavior occurred when the test was done.
I need a way to a.) Automatically select this text field once any state other than "Pass" or "Untested" is selected in the pull-down, and b.) Require text entry in the field before the user can proceed to the next test case. (ideally w/ accompanying custom error message describing what information is required.)
I've pasted my macro code below: ...

I'm designing a spreadsheet for users to enter the length of journeys that they've claimed on their expenses. In order to ensure consistency between users, I want to add two drop-down boxes or listboxes that will offer a list of common locations (eg. office A, office B, office C, customer A): one for the start point, and one for the finish point. These will be referenced by a lookup table that will automatically fill in the journey distance.
However, users will also need to be able to input other locations themselves (ie. if a journey starts at home, not at the office). If I use data validation to create the drop-down box, it will only allow the values on the list; is there something that functions like validation in offering the user a range of options, but also allows other values?

I'm trying to use data validation to restrict the user to only selecting values in a list which I create. Right now, the list is a named range. I'd like to get rid of the range and just use a named list. I create a name using the following as my list.
Insert > Name > Create
Name: Fruit
Refers to:
banana,apple,orange
When I try to use the name Fruit in my data validation, I get the message "The List Source must be a delimited list, or a reference to single row or column." I thought my name "fruit" was a delimited list.

I have built a Userform that is for a Liquor Inventory. I would like to scan each bottle's UPC Code and pull it from a range list that is set up in (Combobox "UpcBarCodeBox"). That information is stored on a sheet "Liquor & Wine Inventory" in Column "A" (Unsorted). Column "B" is the name of the liquor which is also the column that everything is sorted in alphabetical order. What I would like to do is populate several textbox's that I have set up so that I can input missing data or data that needs to be updated. The problem is I would LOVE to keep the list sorted by Liquor Names (Column "B") and not by UPC Bar Codes (Column "A"). From my research I have found that Index and Match might be the way to go but I can't seem to get it to work right. Since I am still learning VBA, Some things still escape my grasp.
VB:
Private Sub UserForm_Initialize()
Me.UpcBarCodeBox.List = Worksheets("Liquor & Wine Inventory").Range("A5:A205").Value
With ComboBox2
