Several Cells Blank Intermittently

Jan 4, 2010

I have issue with blank cells in Excel...its happen intermittently, as it would be OK today and might not be OK tomorrow...no formula applied to these cells...

as you can see in the attachment, cell B6 is highlighted in the spreadsheet; it looks like a blank cell, but in the toolbar at the top, the value of the cell is correctly displayed as "Philip Goughary".

Formula Returns Div/0 Error Intermittently

Jan 10, 2007

I'm using the formula below to count the distinct number of values in the range, many values are repeated so this formula only counts each one once, it works sometimes. For some reason I get a #Div/0 error once in a while.

The entire range might not always have a value, when I get the error if I add text to the remaining cells of the range the error is cleared.

I do not want to use a If (iserr(myformula),0,myformula)) because there are still values that need to be counted even if the range is not totally populated.

=SUMPRODUCT((B16:B1500"")/COUNTIF(B16:B1500,B16:B1500&""))

Beforedoubleclick Create Sheet Stops Working Intermittently

Apr 27, 2007

I am using a BeforeDoubleClick event to look for a worksheet name and if it exists, go to the sheet. If the worksheet does not exist, it is creates a new sheet by copying a hidden sheet and naming it using a name in a cell reference. It works for the most part, but I am finding that it is having an intermittant issue. Sometimes, when I double-click, it double-clicks the target cell for editing, and then it renames the active sheet to the cell reference rather than copying the hidden sheet. It seems to happen when I reach 35 sheets created, but not always. Here is the

Private Sub Worksheet_BeforeDoubleClick(ByVal Target As Range, Cancel As Boolean)
Dim WSname As String
Dim WScheck As Worksheet
Dim WScheckname As String
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("A5:L85")) Is Nothing Then
WSname = Range("L" & Target.Row)
On Error Resume Next
Set WScheck = Sheets(WSname)
If WScheck Is Nothing Then 'Doesn't exist so create it
Sheets("Master_SLP").Copy Before:=Sheets(Worksheets.Count)
ActiveSheet.Name = WSname.........................

Paste Special As Values Macro Only Works Intermittently

Feb 23, 2008

I often need to use Paste Special... Values, using Excel 2003. So I recorded a Macro into "Personal.xls" and assigned a shortcut key combination "CTRL-Shift-V" so that it would always be available. I first select one or more cells and hit CTRL-C to copy to clipboard, click on another cell, then hit CTRL-Shift-V to run the following macro: Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False

It often works . . . and it often fails. When it is working it seems to keep working over and over. When it is failing it keeps failing. So it is almost as if there are two "modes" of operation, which for lack of terms, for this post I will coin the terms "fail mode" and "fixed mode". Once I am in one of the two modes, it stays there for a while. When it is in the "fail mode", I always get the dreaded: Run-time error 1004: "Pastespecial method of Range class failed".

Since this problem is very intermittent, I believe this is why there are so many posts in the Internet about this, and so many people are replying back "it works fine for me". I have seen many solutions offered but none work so far for just a simple shortcut key to do a PasteSpecial :Values. Some solutions "work" . . . such as adding the PasteSpecial button to the Toolbar, or pressing ALT-E-S-V <Enter> - but both of these bring up the Paste Special dialog box which I want to avoid. I spent days trying the many solutions offered but so far all I have found is a trick to convert Excel from "fail mode" to "fixed mode". The trick is to add a line to the macro to first do a "Paste Special: Format:

Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteFormats, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False

Excel 2003 :: Paste Special As Values Macro Only Works Intermittently

I first select one or more cells and hit CTRL-C to copy to clipboard, click on another cell, then hit CTRL-Shift-V to run the following macro:

VB : Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False

When it is in the "fail mode", I always get the dreaded:

I spent days trying the many solutions offered but so far all I have found is a trick to convert Excel from "fail mode" to "fixed mode". The trick is to add a line to the macro to first do a "Paste Special: Format:

VB:

Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteFormats, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False

Then select and copy any cell/s, click on another cell, and run the macro just ONCE - it will paste the formatted value successfully and you are now in the "fixed mode". Now you can remove the PasteSpecial:Format line that you just added, to get back to the original macro with just the "Paste Special: Values" line:

VB : Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False

Now Excel is in the "fixed mode" and the original macro will once again start working properly. BUT only for a while !! Then some time later, usually within a day or a couple hours . . . Excel goes back into that "mode" where once again the macro fails repeatedly. I have been unable to isolate what causes the mode to return to failure.

Any simple way to either change the code so that it ALWAYS is successful, why this often is not successful ? I believe that the fact that adding in the Paste Special : Format code and running it just once to fix the problem, also could be a clue as to what causes this problem to "sometimes" occur.

Fill In Blank Cells Referencing Non-Blank Cells Above

Apr 17, 2008

I have sporadic cell values in a column. I will be describing the lamen logic I use to fill in these blanks manually. Find the first nonblank cell in the column, then look for the next nonblank cell in the column. I count the number of blank cells in between. If even # of blank cells, then I give the first half of the blanks the value of the first nonblank cell and the second half of the blank cells the value of the next nonblanck. If odd # of blank cells, then I do the same with the exception that the odd cell that falls in the middle will be randomly designated the value of the either first or second nonblank cell.

How To Populate Blank Cells With Sequence Until Non Blank Cell Is Encountered

Mar 22, 2014

I presume this is fairly simple to do, since it's certainly easy enough to do manually by filling in a couple of rows and dragging them down, but I need it to be performed in a macro that I can run before other macros run.

What I need specifically is for the macro to go to G1 and insert the number .01... Then go to G2 and insert .02... Then G3 and insert .03... And repeat this until it finds the first non-blank cell ( row number this occurs at varies), at which point it ends and does nothing to that populated cell or any other cell in the column thereafter (including other blanks farther down).

This all needs to be done in Arial, 10pt, white.

Imported Data Creates Blank Cells That Aren't Really Blank

Feb 21, 2006

Here's what I'm attempting to do: For each column, X,Y, Z, I am attempting
to count nonblanks. However, the data was imported from Access and Oracle,
and Excel treats what appear to be blank cells as nonblanks. I've tested
this theory by highlighting a couple of "blank" cells and deleting them, and
my count changes. So, can I get Excel to put a value into my "blank" cells,
so then I could filter it out, or create a formula that would only count
dates in my columns (which is what I'm after).

This is what I'm looking at:

A B C
1 2/4/2006 2/6/2006 ("blank")
2 ("blank") 12/13/2005 1/7/2006
3 2/20/2006 1/15/2006 ("blank")

In each column if I use a COUNTA I'll get a total of 3, instead of 2 for A,
3 for B and 1 for C.

List - Filling In Each Blank Cells With Value Contained In First Non-blank Cell Above It

Column B

Row 4 Item 1
Row 5 Item 2
Row 6
Row 7
Row 8 Item 3
Row 9
Row 10 Item 4
Row 11
Row 12
Row 13
Row 14 Item 5

The range of cells in column B containing the items has a name "ColStreams"

I need to go through the list, filling in each blank cells with the value contained in the first non-blank cell above it - so, in this case, rows 6 and 7 would contain "Item 2", row 9 would contain "Item 3", rows 11-13 would contain "Item 4" and so on.

Why After Paste Value The Blank Cells Are Like Not Blank Anymore

Aug 13, 2013

the situation is i have a sheet, contains like 500 cells, from A1, to T500, some of the cells are blank, then i figure that from cell A1 to E500 not all the words in capital, so i make it with upper on the2nd sheet, then, i copy + paste value back to the first sheet (A1 to E500)

i get wht i want, but why it's like there's no blank cells anymore on my worksheet.

like you know, if u want to jump from a filled cell to the blank cell, you would hit Ctrl + Down, it jump to the very end of the datas that i paste value before.

so when i hit Ctrl + Down from A1, it jumps to A500, meanwhile the filled cells only 10 cells.

Excel 2003 :: Conditional Format Top / Mid / Bottom 33% Of Cells But Ignoring Blank Cells

I am trying to conditionally format the top middle and bottom thirds of a range of data. Problem is, that the range needs to be flexible as sometimes there may be a maximum of 36 cells with data, but sometimes there may be less (so there are blank cells in the range that need not be counted). The methods I have tried always include the blank cells, and so it is not equally formatting the thirds (as it includes the blanks cells as part of the bottom data)....

Here are the 2 methods Ive tried so far using excel 2003)

Count Number Of Blank Cells In Range Starting And Ending Will Cells That Match String Values

May 13, 2013

I'm trying to develop a new daily timesheet for my production workers, where non-production items are recorded in 15 minute intervals. The user would put in "Clock in" by the corresponding time, and the same for "Clock out" at the end of the day. Any non-production items will be type in next to their appropriate time. Since clock in and clock out times will vary, I need to set up a formula that searches the array of cells for the day, finds the "Clock in" and "Clock out" values, and counts any blank cells in between them. Basically the blank cells will equal production time, and the result of the Count function will be multiplied by 0.25 to get the hours.

I am having a very difficult time finding a way to set the "Clock in" and "Clock out" cells as the range for the Count function, because it won't always be the same cells. What would be the best way to automatically have excel find the cells containing these values and set them as the range criteria for a Count function?

The formula at the bottom was one of my initial attempts, but it didn't work. I took out the '=' for the screenshot, so that wasn't the problem.

Color Blank Cells In A Row Between 2 Cells With Specific Number

Jan 31, 2013

I have a similar question regarding coloring of empty cells between two cells with specific numbers as posted in below thread : [URL] .....

This is exactly what I want. But here I have some problem with formula.

=COUNTIF(A1:Z1,1)=1

Above formula could pick cell value 1 and color the empty cells in a row between the cells having value=1. But if I want to use the same formatting for other numbers like 2 or 3 it doesn't work.

For example in row(A1:Z1) I have A1=1, D1=1, and F1=2, K1=2, and O1=3, U1=3

I required multiple conditional formatting that could color the cells based on values first from A to D then from F to K and finally from O to U.

I'm using above formatting it works with cells having values 1 but its not working for 2, 3 or any other cells values.

I have already tried replacing 1 in above formula with 2 and 3 but it doesn't work.
