Excel 2010 :: Control ENTER And EXIT Event Firing With Frames Active?

Oct 22, 2011

I'm having some trouble getting control ENTER & EXIT events to fire properly when having controls embedded on frames within a userform. I'm using Excel 2003, 2007, & 2010. Here's the userforms I'm working with:

With FRAME:

Without FRAME:

In both cases, the DESCRIPTION field is disabled. The selectable controls on both are a combo-box, textbox, listbox, & 2 buttons. On the FRAMED version, the combo-box & textbox are contained on a FRAME.

Here's the code, same on both userforms:

Code:
Option Explicit
Private Sub cmbRecipes_Enter()
ListBox1.AddItem "ENTER - " & cmbRecipes.Value
End Sub
Private Sub cmbRecipes_Exit(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)
ListBox1.AddItem "EXIT - " & cmbRecipes.Value
End Sub

All this is doing is posting a message to the listbox when the combo-box ENTER & EXIT events fire. This works as expected without the FRAME, ENTER is shown when the combo-box is entered and EXIT is shown as focus is moved to another control. But when running it on the FRAMED version all I get is a single ENTER event recorded regardless of how I move the focus through the control set.

Another oddity is that if I have more than 1 control that can receive focus on the FRAMED version, it appears to work correctly.

Exit Event Running Twice Due To SetFocus

Feb 15, 2013

I am using a Textbox1_Exit event that (if certain values are true) sets the focus to different Textbox. However, when I invoke the Textbox3.SetFocus, it redoes all the code in the Textbox1_Exit event since it's technically leaving now.

How do I stop this from happening and ensure that the Exit event happens once? OR How do I properly SetFocus inside an Exit event?

Suppress TextBox Exit Event?

Jul 26, 2013

Say I have a userform with one textbox and one commandbutton labeled Cancel. The textbox has an exit event to edit the data entered to the textbox. The commandbutton has code to unload the form.

The first time the Cancel button is clicked and the textbox has the focus the exit event of the textbox is triggered, but the form is not unloaded.

The second time the Cancel button is clicked the form is unloaded because the textbox no longer has focus.

How can I suppress the exit event from being triggered when the Cancel button is clicked if the textbox has focus?

TextBox Triggers A Code On The Exit Event

Dec 12, 2008

I have a Userform with a textbox1 and a commandbutton. TextBox1 triggers a code on the exit event. CommandButton1 simply unloads the UserForm. If a user enters data in the textbox, but does not exit and instead clicks the commandbutton to unload the UserForm, the exit event code is still triggered and then for some reason the commandbutton no longer responds to being clicked. I can't seem to find a way around this.

If the commandbutton is clicked, I simply want the UserForm to be unloaded and the exit event for the textbox ignored

To Set Focus To The RefEdit Control In Userform

Feb 23, 2007

I am trying to implement a simple userform using the RefEdit control.

So I have the RefEdit control and an Ok (which has code attached to it) and a Cancel commandbutton.

For some reason, I can't get the focus on the RefEdit control (i.e. when I activate the form, I have to actually click in the RefEdit box before it gets the cursor). Which property sets the focus in this control?

Right now I have the Ok button Default property set to True.

I have a commandbutton on the spreadsheet that activates the userform.

Enter & Exit Events In Control Classes

May 11, 2006

A lot of people seem to have been having troubles with the fact that if you try to use controls in a class with the "withevents" keyword, some events (like Enter & Exit) are not included in the tracked events. I have been having some troubles with this myself & have not yet seen any particularly satisfying workarounds to this problem.

So here is an idea I just had, I have not made any attempt yet to implement it & so have no idea how complicated doing so would be, but I thought I would just put it out here & get some feedback on the idea before I spend any real time working on it.

The idea is to create a blank, transparent label that covers the entire form, monitor the Click event of this label, & pass it back to the normal controls on the form as necessary. Does this sound doable, or do you all think it would be merely an exercise in futility? If anyone has any better suggestions for how to work around this lack of events,

Control Losing Focus Switching Applications

Jan 4, 2007

I'm using a VBA UserForm (ShowModal=False) as the front-end on a spreadsheet for logging purposes. Here's the progression of the problem:

1. I have the UserForm loaded and the cursor is in any given textbox/ combobox on the form.

2. I switch to another program, then come back to the UserForm.

3. The cursor no longer appears in whatever textbox/combobox I was in when I left the UserForm. If I type, nothing happens (I have to click the field again first, then type).

However, if I TAB, it will go to the next field in the Tab Order just fine. It seems that the control has "pseudo-focus"--it knows which field to tab to next, but the control won't accept input unless you click it. The odd thing is--this UserForm has a button which launches another "child" UserForm. That "child" UserForm does not have this problem.

Multiple Conditional Format Changes As A SubFunction To TextBox-Exit() Event

Mar 31, 2009

What I want to do is have a sub-Function that will check to make sure what is entered into a TextBox is a number, and if it is NOT a number that it changes the color of the TextBox to Yellow.

Currently if the entry is not numeric it just clears the cell and that part is good, but I want the color to flag that the user TRIED to put something there.

I'm doing this as a sub-Function since I need to use this check about 20-25 times.

If-Then Test Not Working To Control Print Jobs Being Sent

Sep 17, 2007

I'm trying to print individualized reports from my Excel gradebook for only those students whose grades are below 70%. I thought an If, Then structure could do that, but the code I've come up with keeps printing reports for ALL students regardless of their grade.

totalgradeindreport refers to a cell in the gradebook where the student's total grade is displayed as a percentage. The value is actually a decimal number (I think), so I have tried to build a test for the If-then statement

If totalgradeindreport * 100 < Criterion Then

to control printing. But I am obviously doing something wrong.

Here is the
Sub DandFreports()

Criterion = InputBox("Print reports for all students whose grade falls below what percentage?", "Info", "70")

Test = Criterion / 100

Count = InputBox("Please enter the highest possible student number.")

I can't figure out which one will do what I want. The change event happens instantaneously which doesn't work. I need to fire off the event when my focus leaves the textbox.

Control Change Event Fires Via Unknown Trigger

Nov 17, 2007

So, I have a worksheet with a bunch of combo boxes. The code for the worksheet is below. The issue I'm having is that anytime I drag and drop a cell anywhere on the page, every single control on the worksheet triggers. VB runs through all the code on the sheet, TWICE(I used the debugger extensively trying to find a solution), and causes dozens of successive re-calculations of the entire workbook, which has a couple of tables. This happens on any cell drag-drop on the worksheet, or when I click the command button on the screen.

I have no clue what is causing this. Even more bizarre, it seems to trigger a custom function which is located in a separate module, and isn't even utilized on the worksheet in question. I guess this is because it makes the whole workbook re-calculate?

Prevent Combobox Change Running Other Control Event Procedures

May 17, 2008

I have a userform with a combobox in it that's rowsource is a column of company names in a worksheet. When a company name is chosen, a combobox change private sub runs and many userform textboxes are populated with information about the company that was chosen from the combobox dropdown. This information is stored on a worksheet. I then want to edit any of the information in these textboxes. Once my edits are made I have a CommandButton that is pressed to save the edit changes. This CommandButton runs a private sub that disables the combobox (thinking this would prevent the combobox private sub from running), deletes the row that the information originated from, and then SHOULD make a new row of values based on the contents of the textboxes following the edits. The problem is that the CommandButton coding that deletes the row causes the combobox change private sub to run because the company that had been selected is now the missing from the rowsource; this causes an error.

Test Two Cells And Set A Third Cell With Different Values Depending On Test Results

Aug 21, 2013

I am trying to determine Long Term Gain (LTG,) Long Term Loss (LTL,) Short Term Gain (STG,) Short term Loss (STL,) or No Loss nor Gain (NGL)testing two cells (A1 and B1)and setting a third cell (C1) to the text LTG, LTL, STG, STL, or NGL depending on the results of testing cells A1 and B1.

A1 represent a number of years and B1 represent gains or losses (negative)in dolars.

The way I see the logic is as follows:

If cell A1 or cell B1 are either one of them equal to 0, then it is neither a Gain nor a Loss (NGL.)

If cell A1 is greater than or equal to 1, then it is Long Term; else, if A1 is greater than 0 and less than 1, then it is Short Term.

On the other hand, if cell B1 is greater than 0, then it is a Gain; if B1 is less than 0 (a negative number,) then, it is a Loss.

I need to find (if it is posible in Excel) one formula to test the two cells for posible outcomes:

If A1 = 0 then C1 = NGL
If B1 = 0 then C1 = NGL
If A1 >= 1 and B1 > 0 the C1 = LTG.
If A1 >= 1 and B1 < 0 the C1 = LTL.
If A1 < 1 and B1 > 0 then C1 = STG
If A1 < 1 and B1 < 0 then C1 = STL
