I am using a Textbox1_Exit event that (if certain values are true) sets the focus to different Textbox. However, when I invoke the Textbox3.SetFocus, it redoes all the code in the Textbox1_Exit event since it's technically leaving now.
How do I stop this from happening and ensure that the Exit event happens once? OR How do I properly SetFocus inside an Exit event?

Say I have a userform with one textbox and one commandbutton labeled �Cancel�. The textbox has an exit event to edit the data entered to the textbox. The commandbutton has code to unload the form.
The first time the Cancel button is clicked and the textbox has the focus the exit event of the textbox is triggered, but the form is not unloaded.
The second time the Cancel button is clicked the form is unloaded because the textbox no longer has focus.
How can I suppress the exit event from being triggered when the Cancel button is clicked if the textbox has focus?
I have a Userform with a textbox1 and a commandbutton. TextBox1 triggers a code on the exit event. CommandButton1 simply unloads the UserForm. If a user enters data in the textbox, but does not exit and instead clicks the commandbutton to unload the UserForm, the exit event code is still triggered and then for some reason the commandbutton no longer responds to being clicked. I can't seem to find a way around this.
If the commandbutton is clicked, I simply want the UserForm to be unloaded and the exit event for the textbox ignored
I need to test what control will receive focus after the exit event
this test needs to be in the exit event so i am able to validate and cancel only if focus will be the enter button

What I want to do is have a sub-Function that will check to make sure what is entered into a TextBox is a number, and if it is NOT a number that it changes the color of the TextBox to Yellow.
Currently if the entry is not numeric it just clears the cell and that part is good, but I want the color to flag that the user TRIED to put something there.
I'm doing this as a sub-Function since I need to use this check about 20-25 times.
I'm having some trouble getting control ENTER & EXIT events to fire properly when having controls embedded on frames within a userform. I'm using Excel 2003, 2007, & 2010. Here's the userforms I'm working with:

In both cases, the DESCRIPTION field is disabled. The selectable controls on both are a combo-box, textbox, listbox, & 2 buttons. On the FRAMED version, the combo-box & textbox are contained on a FRAME.

All this is doing is posting a message to the listbox when the combo-box ENTER & EXIT events fire. This works as expected without the FRAME, ENTER is shown when the combo-box is entered and EXIT is shown as focus is moved to another control. But when running it on the FRAMED version all I get is a single ENTER event recorded regardless of how I move the focus through the control set.
Another oddity is that if I have more than 1 control that can receive focus on the FRAMED version, it appears to work correctly.
I need a userform textbox event that fires after I tab or click out of the textbox. Going by the list of options:Beforedragover, BeforeDroporPaste, Change, DblClick, DropButtonClick, Error, Keydown, Keypress, keyup, mousedown, mousemove, mouseup.
I can't figure out which one will do what I want. The change event happens instantaneously which doesn't work. I need to fire off the event when my focus leaves the textbox.

At the beginning of my code I disable events and at the end I enable it again (I need to do this to avoid being caught in a loop). However something is going wrong somewhere in my code and the code stops halfway through. I'm trying to test sections of the code, but I often inadvertently stop the code without enabling the events again. Therefore I can't get my VBA to execute again unless I close excel down and restart. This is a pain as I have to find my place in the code again!

I am having difficulties with my Worksheet_Activate() macro. It works great within workbook1 when it is only workbook1 open - but when I open another workbook2, the macro stills runs, presumably because Sheet1 of workbook1 is still activated as well as the newly activated sheet in workbook2.
Is there a way to ensure that only 1 worksheet of 1 workbook is activated at a time? Or that sheet1 of workbook1 is deactivated when workbook2 is opened/clicked on? I need my Worksheet_Deactivate macro to run to get rid of my Worksheet_Activate macro (which runs an application that resets the function of keyboards keys). Otherwise moving around workbook2 is a nightmare. When I navigate back to workbook1 while workbook2 is still open, I still want sheet1 of workbook1 to be activated and my macro to run .
I have a textbox from the drawing toolbar. When someone changes a cell then clicks in the textbox, Worksheet_Change does not run. If they double click in the cell, that's OK I can capture that event and protect the sheet, stopping them clicking in it. But if they just start typing in the cell, I can't capture that. I have seen some API code which captures keypresses, but it is not practical to use as it loops repeatedly. I could lock the textbox and have the user do something to unlock it, but this is a last resort.

When a company name is chosen, a combobox change private sub runs and many userform textboxes are populated with information about the company that was chosen from the combobox dropdown. This information is stored on a worksheet. I then want to edit any of the information in these textboxes. Once my edits are made I have a CommandButton that is pressed to save the edit changes. This CommandButton runs a private sub that disables the combobox (thinking this would prevent the combobox private sub from running), deletes the row that the information originated from, and then SHOULD make a new row of values based on the contents of the textboxes following the edits. The problem is that the CommandButton coding that deletes the row causes the combobox change private sub to run because the company that had been selected is now the missing from the rowsource; this causes an error.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a code in file A that opens several files (B,C,D&E), copies some data from them, then closes the files. That part of the code works fine, but each of the files that are opened (B,C,D,&E) have a Workbook Open event that causes the file to save automatically every 30 seconds. (I know this is not recommended, but this is what the user wants.) The files also have a Workbook Before Close event that is supposed to stop the timer so the file will close without reopening. These each run fine on their own.But if I run code A, the workbook Before Close event in file B (C,D, & E) does not seem to run and the files reopen after 30 seconds to save. When I step through the code it works fine and goes through the Before Close event in each file and the files remain closed.

The problem is, on the SetFocus part. I thought that it should put the cursor back into TextBox2 for another entry. It doesn't, in fact the cursor is nowhere to be seen. I have to grab the mouse and click in the TB2 to reenter a number.

In the code below I open a dialog box to import a text file (with CommandButton1), if no file is selected the user is prompted, this works fine. However it leaves focus to the textbox and the user would have to click on some other object and re-enter the textbox to open the dialog box again.

basically the code asks if the if the answer placed in a cboAccount (combo box) is valid against the list designated to that combo box,
If the entry is not valid a message box appears asking if they would like to add the entry to the valid list if they do not want to do this they can click no and in which case I wan't the focus to be set back to the combo box however currently the setfocus command above does not does not work and the focus is set to the next text box.
I have been working for 8-1/2 hours to get the focus to move to a specified control on my user form if criteria are met in two other controls on the same user form. It's not responding as I expect. I think I know what is happening; I just don't know why.
Situation: I have a user form with the following relevant fields in this tab order - LMonthDay, tbMonthDay, SBMonthDay, LYear, tbYear, SBYear, LTime, and tbTime. I used the designations L, tb, and SB in my control names to represent label, text box, and spin button respectively.
Problem: Once the SBMonthDay control has the focus, if I press TAB without changing the control's value, it does not execute the Exit event statement the way I anticipated. I want the focus to move to the tbTime control when the tbMonthDay & tbYear controls are already properly populated. (They will already be populated for 99% of the entries in this case.)

I have a userform with a multipage consisting of 4 tabs.
Each one has several combobox's and 1 commandbutton.
As you move through the form the commandbutton moves the data to my worksheet then moves you to the next page. When it reaches the last page it will return you to the first page then unload the form which is great.
The problem I am having is the cursor is not in any of the boxes on the first page. If I click on one of the other tabs then return to first page the first combobox has the focus. All the tab orders are correct. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a project with many textboxes on different forms. On some of the textbox_exits on some of the forms, I call a standard module that checks what the user has input. If the user needs to change the input, a msgbox appears to inform the user the info needs to be changed.
I have tried to use ControlSource, Name etc., But I cannot seem to setfocus back onto which ever textbox the input needs to be changed. I think it has something to do wih the _exit event, but not sure.
I have two userforms. When the user chooses the choice "Other" in the userform frmTradeSickOther, another userform called frmOther will be called. At this point, the user will enter some required comments in a textbox (called txtOther) and click the "Add Comment" button. If the user does not enter anything, a prompt will inform the user to type something in the textbox.
My problems: Once the user clicks okay to the prompt, frmOther is called back. When it's called back, I want the cursor to blink in the textbox. Eventhough I have SetFocus on the textbox, it does not work. I don't know why.How do I prevent the user from just hitting enter (i.e., accepting blank lines as comments) and bypassing the commenting part. The code below accounts for hitting enter once (i.e., one blank line), but not multiple times. How do I do this?

I've got a user form with 12 textbox, one for each month a total textbox number 13 and a 14th text box (TB28) to enter $'s in.
AfterUpdate in each textbox 1-12 posts its value to a worksheet all values are summed in a =sum range which in turn populates textbox 13. When TB13.text = 100.00 it sucessfully calls a number of routines but what I can't get it to do is set focus on TB28.

It returns a Run time error Unexpected call to method or property access highlighting .SetFocus. The rest of the code works OK. Is it because other textbox on the same user form have text highlighted because of the tab order?
In Excel 2000 there seems to be a problem with setting the focus in a UserForm TextBox if the SetFocus method is applied in the same submodule as the UserForm.Show method. Microsoft's circumvention for this is to put the SetFocus command in the form's Activate event submodule.
This seems to work OK except when the TextBox you are applying the SetFocus to is the first control inside a frame. It works if the TextBox is not the first control, and it can be circumvented by first setting the focus on a subsequent control then switching the focus to the intended control.
However, the circumvention is not that useful if there is only one TextBox control in a frame or, as in my current project, if you try to create a generic piece of code to validate controls from multiple forms and set the focus from within the generic code.
Does anyone know of a way over overcoming this problem and being able to directly set the focus to the first TextBox inside a frame?
I've got a userform with multiple pages, and in my userform initialize sub I set the focus to "combobox1" on "page1". When a user is on page2 of the form and clicks my "ClearData" button, which calls the initialize event, I get a run time error 2110 - "Can't move focus... etc" I would like users to have the ability to clear the form and start over no matter what page they are on.
