Text Entered Into One Cell Equals Number In Different Cell
Jun 24, 2013
So I am having trouble figuring out how to do multiple text to equal multiple numbers. For instance right now I use =IF(E9="JOHN DOE","07", but I would like to have it where IF E9 = John Doe the cell shows 07, but IF the E9 = Sam Doe I want the cell to show 08, and the same IF E9 = Pat Doe the cell shows 09 and so on.
Meaning is there a way to have multiple functions go to a cell dependent on what is entered into E9 for example. I just want to have a number come out in one cell if a certain name is entered in a different cell. I loooked at this post [URL]....which got me started,
I have students Kg-5th Gr. I need to identify the ones over-aged when I enter the information. The following is what I'm trying to use but I get Y1 for ever cell. I need it to Identify the student as Y1 for One year overage and Y2 for tow years overage.
I am creating a spreadsheet for inventory use. I want to have a running total in (1) cell based upon a new/different number being entered into a different cell.
Column B, Row 1 (This will be a new/different number entered every day - inventory in or out, so positive or negative number)
Column D, Row 1 (This will be a running total based on numbers inserted in previous 2 columns)
Basically what I have is a key inventory. So there is column A with key number, B should be keys IN, C should be keys OUT, or ideally B would be IN and OUT meaning, for inventory IN input a positive number and for inventory OUT input a negative number, and D Should be total.
Column E represents number of keys currently in the inventory. I was going to hide the current inventory column so all you see is IN/OUT and total.
So what I need is to be able to just come in and type in a number in the IN and/or OUT column, without having to add/subtract it with the number already in that column.
Bottom line, I'd like to be able to use IN and/or OUT columns to just type in numbers as they come and not have to worry about what's already in those columns and get correct total number.
Ok here it is. Attached worksheet shows Column A - Key Numbers...No data value Column B - Inventory IN Column C - Inventory OUT Column D - Total Column E - Current Inventory(Starting point)
So the formula I used to get what i currently have is (=B2-C2+E2). This way whatever i input in columns C and C. totals out in D. But this way every time I want to add/subtract a number in B and C, i have to add to the number already in the column. I'd like to be able to type in a number in B and C as i go and still have a correct total. I wouldn't mind having just one column for in/out and use positive and negative numbers to differentiate inventory in or out.
"A" in cell A1, B in B1, "C" in C1, "D" in D1, "E" in E1 and "F" in F1.
There are two projects.
Project 1 has phase A, D & F and Project 2 has phase A, B, C, D & E.
My Specification follows...
1). Take Prject 1 - Which starts from A...in cell A2 I will keyin "A". When the phase comes to an end I will key in the end date of the phase. As soon as I key in the end date in cell A2 Letter D should automatically appear in the cell D2 and when Phase D comes to an end I will key in the end date in Cell D2 which should automatically keyin F in the cell F2. and is the same case for Project 2.
I need to match data in cell A to cell B and then if they equal I need to copy the adjacent cell C to cell X . How do I set up a macro to do this automatically? I have over 5000 cells to compare and match up.. I have Office 2003.
I want to incoroprate into my Workbook a sheet with a list of phone numbers, that sheet can be added to and more numbers entered if necessary and will be called "DATA"
The questions is this. If one of those numbers in the "DATA" sheet is entered in any other sheet in the workbook can the cell that number has been written on (not the one on the data sheet) be made to change colour?
How do I prevent or allow text to be entered into a Cell or not. Ie if cell A1 contains the word "Text" I want text to be able to be entered in A2, but if A1 contains "No Text" if want to prevent text being entered A2. Is this possible, if so how?
I have the following formula that is supposed to grab a value from C2 and check for that value in a range of cells and if it matches it is supposed to display the corresponding value in another range of cells. What am I missing??
Any way where is a list of cells (b3:b113) has text entered, or specific text entered, it will enter a static cell in the corresponding "d" column.
I know of CTRL + ; but i don't really know how to get it to work as a macro, can't find a forumla that enters the static date, and i don't want to make a macro to copy + paste special the date when it happens.
So all i should have to do is entered text in column b, then it will add a time stamp, when that text was entered, it doesn't have to update.
Like all i need is this, but instead of the "now()" function, it will have another function that doesn't automatically update?
Is there any way I can make it so an image is hyperlinked to a cell with specific text entered. After clicking on the image, the cell where the image is hyperlinked to changes text.
An image of a strawberry is hyperlinked to a cell which contains the word "strawberry". After clicking on the strawberry image, the cell which contained the word "strawberry" now contains the word "strawberry1".
setting up a worksheet that forces a link to another worksheet when text is entered.
For instance, I will have several columns in the first worksheet (Sheet 1). For each entry, a tally ("X") will be added under the applicable columns. Most of the column headings are pretty straightforward. To keep things uncluttered, I want one of the columns to have an auto-link (?) feature so that when the user adds an X in this one column (we'll call it Column D), the user will then be auto-linked to another worksheet (Sheet 2) in the workbook. Sheet 2 will have room for more information regarding Column D, Sheet 1.
if a macro or private macro is necessary, I would need basic instruction how to use those as well (I mentioned private macro as I understand they automatically run whenever worksheet info is changed, which I would like in this example.)
I'm simply trying to change fonts in cells based on the inputs of other cells. Obviously, using conditional formatting doesn't allow for this.
For my example, assume the word "MrExcel" is in cells D2, F2, H2, J2, L2, N2, P2 and R2. If I type different font names (Times New Roman, Arial, Bookman, etc.) in the cells to the immediate right of each word "MrExcel," -- cells E2, G2, I2, K2, M2, O2, Q2 and S2 -- I would like the "MrExcel" word in each corresponding cell changed to the corresponding font to the right. I would like the ability to do this for up to 15 different fonts. There will be many rows to this worksheet I need to use this process for.
Is this possible? I'm in a bit of a jam and have exhausted my knowledge of formulas in that they won't work in this case ... I'm assuming I need to delve into the unknown land (to me) of macros, private macros, or VBA.
I have an excel file with many worksheets. I want to get a pop up message providing definitions of different subjects when they are entered from a drop down list in a specific range within a column to improve the users understanding of the subjects.
Worksheet 1 Range (where I want the pop up message to be valid): J85:J385 Subjects from drop down list in specified range: "x,y,z" Pop up message: "Definitions of x,y,z"
Do I have to make a new module, or write the macro in the selected worksheet? What should be the settings of the macro (general, worksheet, declarations etc.)
I have a 700 line spreadsheet and would like to delete the cell next to another cell if it contains a certain string. I.e if A1 to A3 equals "Test" then i would like to delete the contents of B1 to B3, But if A2 equals "Completed" then only B1 and B3 should be cleared.
I have a Random Number macro that will generate a random number (from 1 to 50) and place it into cell C4 of the worksheet. From there, various calculations are performed in the spreadsheet, ending with a value in cell AB5 and cell AB6. Depending on this random number, occasionally the value of cell "AB5" and cell "AB6" do not match. I want the macro to continue looping (generating another random number until a match is made between AB5 and AB6). I've tried various things but nothing is working to make it loop.
Below is the code for the random number macro.
VB: Sub RandomNo() Randomize MyNumber = Int((50 - 1 + 1) * Rnd + 1) Range("c4").Value = MyNumber End Sub
The spreadsheet is password protected. The only cells that students can enter values into are the answer cells.
I am trying to figure out how to have a cell switch to being locked if the correct answer is inputted. ( I have a column that I hide that has the correct answers in it. Then I use a countif function to determine if the answer cell equals the inputted answer.)
3. All the other cells in that row are shaded blue. Look at these.
4. Look at the "Volunteer" row - all the cells in that row are shaded blue. Look at these.
5. Wherever a name - any name - appears in the "Volunteer" row, 1 is added to the previous number in the "Days so far" section and the result is displayed in cell from the "Days so far" row above that Volunteer's name.
6. For example, we begin in C1 with a count of 12 days so far - this was manually entered
7. In cell H5, we see Henry has volunteered 1 day. The total no. of days so far should now be 12+1. Therefore, the number in H1 should be 13.
8. In cell G47, we see Joseph has volunteered 1 day. The total number of days volunteered BEFORE Joseph volunteered is 15 (see cell D43). But now, with Joseph volunteering 1 day, the total no. of days so far should now be 15+1. Therefore, the number in G43 should be 16.
9. what formula l must put in the "Days so far" row (excluding cell C1, which is manually input) to give me the "should be" results predicted in that row? I'm guessing it will be a formula which looks at each row fragment of the "Days so far" row, row by row, right up to the previous cell in that row, all within one formula.
P.S. I just want to leave the "Days so far" row blank, for any columns where there are no volunteers in the "Volunteer" row, so please don't give a formula which inserts zero for days with no volunteer, and then sums the cumulative total.
