In cell B8 - I have a cell with the following info:
Mr A. Jones
4 spaces, ' Mr A.' , 4 spaces and 'Jones'
In order to Trim Only on the spaces to the left of the first letter in the cell I am using the following formula:
=MID(B8,FIND(LEFT(TRIM(B8)),B8),LEN(B8))
Can anyone tell me if there is an easier ay to do this ( I'm sure there must be )

I want to delete everything to the left of the first space.
So it will look like:
Jack Daniels
Crown Royal
It has to be vba though. I have done alot of trim in just formulas but this is first time in VBA. The above code is one I found by searching but not sure what to do to modify it.
This will be for range AM2:AM2000

I cannot get it to run this, it always crashes on
cell = Left(cell, InStr(cell, "//") -1)
It will work fine like:
cell = Left(cell, InStr(cell, "//") + 0)
but then it leaves the first / in place, i want it to start deleteing before both //.
I have come up with this to Trim all of the data from rows 2:30 removing any trailing spaces after the last word in each cell. The macro takes a couple of minutes to run have I got something wrong that is making it run slowly or does the Trim process just take longer?

I have some code that run on Excel 2003, and fail on Excel 2000. It happens on functions Left, Right, Mid and Trim. I've found that I must use in "Late Bindings".
If exist any convertion for above functions?
I have a 2010 excel sheet containing 14 columns and 45082 rows in total. I am quite illiterate when it comes to writing macros but I know that what I need can be achieved with a set of codes.

Need VBA code to trim the last four number from a cell and the result needs to be a date format

I'm trying to make up a sheet that will be able to cope with users pasting in data from other sources. I thought simply running a TRIM function on any data entered in the target cell would be enough, but I've realized that many of the "space" looking characters are not really spaces and don't get trimmed. I've searched around here, but can't find a definitive answer... What can I use in VBA to trim anything that isn't a-z or 0-9 from around data that's entered or pasted in?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have column headings that come in through a file upload and for some reason some of the column headings(which are in cells in row1) have extra spaces in the middle of them and at the end of the word. This messes up some of my later coding when trying to find specific header names.
Example:
"Location " - has extra 2 spaces at end, should be "Location"
"Read (Only)" - has 3 spaces in middle, should be "Read (Only)"
I came up with this piece of code to quickly correct the bad headers by Trim()'g the contents of each cell, but it's error'g out & not sure how to fix it:

My Question is how to move to 2 cells left(A for example) from from that unwanted value column. and check if
A is equal to cell above it , means B Cell(Row above A but same column).
As my excel file is totally based on Forms, Macros, I am not quite familiar with macros.
Is there any way to put if condition in one cell (column) and drag it all the way down which should work for all the values in these 3 column.
And also if A=B then I want to make that unwanted value cell="".

If I apply the formula above in cells B2 to E2 it returns a blank cells. But if I delete the first "|" sign in the left side manually the formula works perfectly by splitting the cell into columns from B2 to E2. The issue here is that I have more than 300,000 records. Just imagine the amount of time invested in just deleting the first "|" at the left side.
I need a variation of the formula above that in first place delete the first "|" at the left side and after that continue with the proper work of the formula.

I need to divide the single column to 7 column as separated by semicolon ";"
Assume I filled some cells of a worksheet (in Excel 2007).
Now I place the cursor in one of the cells and dragged the cursor to the right side. As a result more and more empty columns are automatically added at the right side even I do not enter something. Similarly rows are added at the bottom when cursor is dragged downwards.
Correspondingly the horizontal (and vertical) slider shrinks because the dimensions of the matrix grows.
Is there a menu/function which let me do the opposite?
Something like a trim/shrink function which cuts/deletes all empty columns beginning from the right side resp. rows from the bottom?

I am having trouble filling a formulae series to the left on one spreadsheet, the fomulae being references to another sheet.
For example, I have two sheets 'Mtce Options' and 'Base Case'. In 'Mtce Options' I have the following formulae
A B C
1='Base Case'!A15='Base Case'!D15='Base Case'!G15
I want to fill to the left, incrementing the column references by a factor of 2 each time, eg. next two should be ='Base Case'!J15 and ='Base Case'!M15.
However, if I autofill to the left by highlighting A1, B1 and C1 or just B1 and C1 all I get is an inappropriate reference such as ='Base Case'!D15 or ='Base Case'!F15, respectively, in D15.
i need a code that moves down a column and for every empty cell in the column the cell to the left is cleared and then it moves on to the next cell down. the column is not always the same and will start from a selected cell, and the column will contain no more than 5 rows

The value of this cell needs to be "1", if the cell to its left is "Red".
The value of this cell needs to be "2", if the cell to its left is "Purple".
The value of this cell needs to be "3", if the cell to its left is "Green".
The value of this cell needs to be "4", if the cell to its left is "Blue".
I believe I need to find the HEX values for the colors, but that is no problem, I just need the formula of the function if you know it.
I have Column A and Column B. Every row in column A is populated, but only some of the rows in column B are populated. I need a formula that copies column A if B is blank. (i.e. If B6 is blank, copy A6). Thoughts?

I've been pounding away at a project for two days trying to determine a way to identify a solution, to no avail.
Here is some experimental code. Under the assumption that in Column "A", every fifth line contains some text (a, b, c, etc) I want to place a function in column B that would identify the closest occupied cell above and to the left of the cell containing the function. The sub achieves this, but the function has a problem because of the Activecell line. Is there a way to identify the location of the cell containing the function to act as a reference point for the range?

I need a single cell to contain two elements, one left aligned and the other right aligned.
Result would look something like this, LeftText aligned to the left side of the cell and RightText aligned to right side of the same cell.

Merging columns is not an option; both values must be in same cell. Both text values vary in length with each run of the code.
All I can do as of now is plug in a bunch of spaces that will approximate the open space between the two values.

I am trying to have it to so that when you double click on cell B2 of sheet1, it will go to sheet2 and autofilter on the value to the left of B2 on sheet1 "Jane Doe"
