Use Excel To Plot Growth Curve?

Mar 15, 2012

I would like to use excel to plot a growth curve. I would like it to plot the points that correlate to my data without connecting them by a line. I would then like to give excel a formula and have it plot that line on the graph.

Create Growth Curve

Aug 28, 2007

Does anyone know of a statistical formula that would create a normal growth curve?

For example. Let's assume that I want to forcast growth from January through December. I know that in January I will have 100 units. In December, I will have 1,000 units. Is there a formula to predict the the units in Feb-Nov (using a normal growth curve)?

Derive Curve From Values Then Apply Curve To Another Dataset?

Jun 5, 2014

I have a data set (Set#1) that consists of a positional rank (1-240) and a dollar value ($46-$1) for each positional rank. It's not a straight line set.

DataSet.JPG

What I need to do is take that curve and apply it to another data set (Set#2) (1-240) and assign a dollar value ($46-$1) to each positional rank.

A "corner cutting" way of doing it would be an Index/Match to simply carry over the dollar value from (for example) #45 from my Set#1 to #45 in my Set#2. This could work reasonably well with data sets of the same size, but mine aren't always the same size, so I need to apply the curve itself. I

Creating Curve With Multiple Values Already In Excel Spreadsheet?

Jul 11, 2013

Here's the spreadsheet I am talking about : [URL]

So as you can see each row = one day divided in 2 cycles of 12 hours : every 12 hours the cat gets a new injection of insulin (the columns "U" being the number of units of insulin the cat receives)

Now I want to turn this sheet into two different curves that would look like these : [URL]

As you can see the first graph shows data based on days (x) and insulin dose (y), while the second curves shows data based on days (x), and blood glucose values (y). This is basically the only way we could clearly see how the cat's disease is evolving over a long period of time.

If he had just started to take all these values from his cat I guess it would be simple to do, but since he already has a lot of data entered in his spreadsheet, I was wondering if I could use this data (and not write each number in a new document), to make things a little more simple and to avoid mistakes.

Excel 2007 :: Horizontal Align X Axis Title To Plot Area VBA?

We have a lot of charts we want to create in Excel 2007. We have templates created that seem to work. (But also sometime seem to not.)

After the charts are created that are placed in their own chart pages/sheets. The problem I'm having is that the x axis title doesn't seem to be centered horizontally wrt the x axis of the plot area. (It does look centered wrt the chart area.)

Some code or an algorithm to control he placement of the x axis title and maybe center it?

Excel 2008 :: How To Add Data Labels For Scatter Plot Coming From 3rd Column

Jul 29, 2014

I'm using Excel 2008 for Mac & cannot figure out how to add a data label to an XY scatter plot that comes from a 3rd, separate column.

I have 3 columns of data: (A,B,C)
Labels, X values, Y values

When I select the Data Source for the Chart, there is a greyed out box for Category X axis labels, which is where I remember such information going in PC versions of Excel I used to use.

From the formatting palette, the only options to select for labels add the values of column B, but I need the reference from column A.

I'm not familiar with macros or visual basic. How to add these labels? This is Mac, Excel 2008.

Excel 2010 :: Parsing Data From Text File To Create Scatter Plot?

Jan 11, 2014

I have a text file which is attached as "rawdata". It contains records of something (let's call it temperature) at different times on different days. My goal is to display a graph of temperature versus time so that I can visually analyze trends. I have hundreds of these files, all of different lengths. it is very important that I automate this process as much as possible.

Detail: (Here I describe what I have done so far; if this is inefficient or unnecessary, feel free to tell me) I open Excel 2010, click File, Open, and select the file that I want to parse. It is a TXT file, so the Text Import Wizard comes up. For step one, I select Fixed Width. I select File Origin: MS-DOS (PC-8). On step 2 of the wizard, I create column break lines to place all dates in the far left column. The next column contains the first column of numbers before the first dash (-). The next column contains only the dash - I will later select "ignore this column" to eliminate them. The next column contains the time stamps. I continue adding column breaks in the wizard until all of the data are parsed into columns in the same manner.

In step 3, I format the first column as "date (DMY)". The columns with the dashes I select "do not import". Everything else is "general". I click "finish", and the resultant workbook is attached, called "import".

Now, as to what I want to do: I want to display the "temperatures" as a graph vs a date/time axis. The reason I find this difficult is because the temperatures and times are not in neat columns, but are in 4 columns that go in a left-to-right and top-to-bottom progression and are broken up every few lines. (I am interested only in numbers that are displayed immediately to the left of a time-stamp. Therefore, the "record #"s should be ignored. We can delete the rows that say "record #" if can be done automatically.)

Compound Annual Growth Calculation

The example is that I have (273,000) for the YE 2003 and have Growth to the amount of +767,000 at YE 2006. The formula I have been using for other calculations where the starting point is positive is =POWER(J23/C23,1/O$1)-1. Where J23 = a positive amount and C23 = a positive number. This formula works fine, but when C23 = a negative number the formula does not work and the % does not make sense.

Have To Show Market Growth And Share

Jul 13, 2006

I have access to a huge database in excel that involves sales data. The database is catagorized like:

Column A = Country
Column B = Product
Column C = Company
Column D = (Product) category
Column E = Sales
Column F = Period
Column G = Sales of particular company
Column H = Market category
Further details: see attached file!

I am looking for way to express developments ( absolute and relative) in market growth and market share over time.

I have 3 questions:
How can i show the growth of the total market sales over time (period 1 to 4)?
How can i show the growth of the Int comapny sales over time (period 1 to 4)?
How can i show the market share of the Int company over time (period 1 to 4)?

Market growth can be calculated by comparing the sales amounts of the total market (or the Int company) to previous periods. Market share can be calculated by expressing the sales figures of the Int company in percentage of the total sales in a partical period (i=1,2,3,4).

Auto Updating Calendar For Plant Growth?

Jul 3, 2014

So, I work in a large indoor grow facility, and as such, we need to keep an active, updated calendar of all activities that will need to happen in the grow. If something happens to a set of plants, we need to change to date of transplant into the next pot size and every transplant after that, as well as moves into the flowering room from the vegetative room.

I have tried to manually make a calendar (I'm not worried about auto-generating a calendar or auto-filling dates, only things that happen on those days.) and tie in this information, but I'm having issues automatically searching a column and finding the date, and then pulling more information from that row automatically. (i.e. If anything in Column E has the date 7/3/14, then fill the data from Column C and Column B on the same row.)

I'm attaching a copy of the spreadsheet that I am trying to pull the Data from, and a copy of the Calendar I mocked up.

FYI, the spreadsheet I am pulling from Automatically fills once you put in the Clone Date, and then if you add in an adjusted date, it will adjust all later dates from that same section.

I tried to find something other than Excel as well to do this for me, but AFAIK nothing exists to make the calendar update Live, only to reproduce a new calendar with the current spreadsheet. This is not an option, I need it to stay up to date.

Automating Linear And Growth Trend Auto Fill

Jun 16, 2008

I used HTML Maker to show my sheet below. I want to have cells K3:Z3 automatically populated using the same calculations as "Linear Trend" Auto Fill and K4:Z4 using "Growth Trend" Auto Fill without having to do it manually. The data in Row 2 will of course be continually updated with actual scores so the remaining empty month scores would need to be updated again. I am using this to come up with a more accurate prediction method than a simple trend line in Excel graphs.

Pivot Table :: Data Field Names And Growth %

Jun 1, 2009

I have excel 2007. My data sheet has columns for the sales for May 2009 and the sales for May 2008. Next to it is a column for the % growth between the 2 periods. When I put all this info into a pivot table and add the formula as below to the pivot table it shows the correct values for all the individual customers but not for the Grand Total line. Here it just shows a zero.

Can you also help so that the names on the data side of the Pivot table is the same as on your original sheet where it is reading the info from, and doesn't say "Sum of May 2009, but only says "May 2009".

Please show how you would work out the % Growth between the two different columns, as I tried it, and on the individual cell the data is correct but on the grand total line it shows it as zero and does not apply the formula.

I used the formula

=SUM('MAY 2009 H&B'/'MAY 2008 H&B'*100-100)

=sum(33,296,271 / 46,852,649 *100-100)

Result should be -29, but it shows zero

Writing Formula To Calculate Monthly Returns Based On Annual Growth Rate

Jul 10, 2014

I have a model that makes projections based on annual growth rates. However, I need to evaluate the data based on monthly intervals. With an 8% return on an investment of $1,000,000 my ending balance at the end of the year should be $1,080,000 and in year 2 it would be $1,166,400 and so on. In order to evaluate the monthly data I need each month in year 1 to be based off $1,000,000, so it would be 8%/12=.006666% or $6,666.66 per month. The next year would be based off $1,000,000 + (6,666.66*12) = $1,080,000 and each month would be $7,200.

Apply A Curve To A Column

Jan 28, 2009

I'd like to apply a curve to a column of student exam grades and have the curved grades displayed in the adjacent column. Here is how I'd like to curve:

I like to make a linear function out of two coordinate pairs.

First Pair (x1,y1) = (Highest Exam Grade, 99) = (H,99)

Second Pair (x2,y2) = (Class Exam Average, Desired Exam Average) =(C,D)

Slope = (99-D)/(H-C) = m

Linear Function = Y-y = m(X-x) = Y-99=m(X-H)

Each student grade would = "Y" i.e. Y=m(X-H)+99

Calculate Best Fit Equation Of Curve

May 16, 2008

I am trying to calculate the equation of a curve which best fits some data. On the x-axis is date and y-axis the readings. The curve is quadratic, so on the chart I am fitting a 2nd order polyomial and displaying the equation. To prove that the equation the trendline gives me is reasonable, I am applying the equation on the x parameter to get the y parameter estimate and looking to see the error between predicted and actual - see attached.

The equation and the output from it are clearly rubbish, even though on the graph the trendline is a reasonable fit - see attached. Has anyone any ideas why? I think it has something to do with using a date on the x-axis but no idea why. Is there a way to correct for this? I also tried using the following I to calculate the coefficients which came up with a reasonable forecast (although linest should only be used for linear data): =LINEST(C3:C15,B3:B15^{1,2,3})

Create S Curve Based On Dates

Apr 4, 2014

I am working on Project Planning, I need to create the Progress curve for our Project based on Weight Factor every month.

I need to create the Plan and actual curve based on the dates defined in particular activities. Once the activity progress is calculated every month based on cut off date then it will sum product with corresponding WF to get the progress achieved every month. Presently I am calculating the values every month and pasting the values in Chart data every month. I had created the S Curve and attached here.

Now my objective is to automatically calculate the values for the entire cut off date at one time (From Project Start to End). i.e I don't want to do any manual work in the Chart. I will update only the actual Dates in the file, then the curves need to get automatically updated.

1) I don't want to calculate the progress for individual activities, I would like to calculate the overall progress directly.

2) When I change the Cut off date, then the previous values needs to become static.
