Using ADDRESS Function In AVERAGE

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to calculate a monthly average from a set of daily values in a separate sheet. I managed to use some nifty code to return the address of the first value in the month, and the address of the last value in the month.
I tried to create an AVERAGE formula to compute the average between these two looked up address and I'm getting various errors, including #DIV/0 which doesn't make sense to me. Here is the summary of the code I'm using, in generic terms.
Formula to lookup first address in month:
=ADDRESS(MATCH(A57,'Sheet2'!$A$1:$A$2000,0),12,1,TRUE,"Sheet2")
Formula to lookup last address in month:
=ADDRESS(MATCH( DATE(YEAR(A57),MONTH(A57)+1,0),'Sheet2'!$A$1:$A$2000,0),12,4,TRUE,"Sheet2"))
Average formula (not working):
=AVERAGE(ADDRESS(MATCH(A57,'Sheet2'!$A$1:$A$2000,0),12,4,TRUE,"Sheet2")):ADDRESS(MATCH(DATE(YEAR(A57),MONTH(A57)+1,0),'Sheet2'!$A$1:$A$2000,0),12,4,TRUE,"Sheet2")))
A57 is the cell in Sheet1 containing the relevant month, for example in this case it is 4/1/2008 (displayed as Apr-2008). Column A in Sheet2 contains the daily dates. Column 12 in Sheet2 contains the relevant data that I want to average.
I've tested the two address lookup formulas and they are working fine. I assume I'm missing some sort of small conversion such that the average formula is not reading the ADDRESS formulas as addresses.
TotHCInv.Value = WorksheetFunction. Sum(KRInv, PBLInv, CRInv, PVInv)
If i >= 34 Then CPSCtphRMA.Value = WorksheetFunction.Average("G" & (i - 30) & ":G" & i)
The first line runs properly, but the second line bugs out with the error message "Unable to get the Average property of the WorksheetFunction class". I can simply do the math, but I thought that using the worksheet function would be easier than summing and dividing. I'm curious, though, as to why I can't seem to use the Average function.
Using the address function to find the exact cell of a unique string text.
I'm using the following command to find the address of a string i have in a different cell.
=ADDRESS(MATCH("*$H$1*",A:A,0),1)
The string text is in cell H1, H2, H3.......(or on another sheet). The goal is to find the address of a cell containing the unique string text from cell H1, H2, H3.....(that entire column) in a sheet with 13,000 lines. Basically, searching for a specific cell address of a string text referenced from another cell.
I'm trying to calc a Simple Moving Average of financial Fund data (row=fund type, column=date) on a very large matrix for a particular fund and date range. I locate the Fund of interest and retrieve the Start and End dates of interest and retrieve their addresses using the ADDRESS function. Since ADDRESS returns a text string, HOW DO I incorporate it's results into the following array function (which ignors blanks and 0 cells): {=AVERAGE(IF($L$10:$V$10>0,$L$10:$V$10,FALSE))}?

=IF(HLOOKUP("C",ADDRESS(ROW()-1,COLUMN(),4 ),1,FALSE)="C","C","A")

C

A

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do you use the result of the "Address" function as ranges for other formulas?
I have 2 cells A1 and A2, each containing an "Address" function to find the start cell and end cell of a range.
A1 shows the result "$J$6" and A2 "$AB$6". These are working fine:
A1: =ADDRESS(ROW($A6),MATCH(HLOOKUP('cleaned up'!$I$2,pivot03!$2:$2,1,FALSE),$2:$2,0),1)
A2: =ADDRESS(ROW($A6),MATCH(HLOOKUP('cleaned up'!$I$5,pivot03!$2:$2,1,FALSE),$2:$2,0),1)
I want to get the average of this range using cells A1 and A2, but Excel treats the formula as an error: =Average(A1:A2) shows the error #DIV/0!
Going back one step and putting the formulas within cells A1 and A2 into the average formula doesn't work at all with a colon:.....................
I am trying to create a correlation matrix that uses the =ADDRESS function to define the various columns of data which I want to correlate against each other (I require this flexibility because the number of columns and rows of data to be correlated will change). The basic formula I am using is something like the following: =CORREL((ADDRESS(Sheet1!$C$2+3,L2+2,,,"Sheet1")),(ADDRESS(Sheet1!$B$2,L2+2,,,"Sheet1")))
However, while the individual ADDRESS fomulas deliver the correct start and end cell references required, it seems that CORREL function won't accept the cell addresses that result from using the =ADDRESS function.
I'm building a table that references a dynamic range on a pivot table. So far I've gotten the function to return the address on the pivot table but it wont return the value. I'm doing this so that I can both refresh the two source data sets and summarize (pivot table) and also graph these two summarized data sets since you can't graph two different pivot tables together.
This is my code so far:
Iferror - To return zero if the source data doesn't exist yet
Address - To concatenate the match functions
Match - to find the row and column numbers on sheet "B" that match the x,y call on the original sheet "A"
=IFERROR((ADDRESS((MATCH($A2,'Install Data Pivot'!$A:$A,0)),MATCH(B$1,'Install Data Pivot'!$4:$4,0),1,1)),0)
Returns $B$5 since this is the cell where the information lies.
I've tried just adding the sheet name like this...
=IFERROR('Install Data Pivot'!(ADDRESS((MATCH($A2,'Install Data Pivot'!$A:$A,0)),MATCH(B$1,'Install Data Pivot'!$4:$4,0),1,1)),0)
But that doesn't work. I've also tried using different variations of Indirect and Index but I still can't get it to reference the other sheet.
I have the below code of which I would like to addresses added to the CC list Also, Would it possible to add a range as the body? E.G:
.CCaddress = "somebody@mail.com"
.CCaddress ="somebody.else@mail.com"
Body text = Range("A1"& "" &"B1")

With ActiveWorkbook
.SendMail Recipients:=Array("steve.howard@kuehne-nagel.com"), _
Subject:="610 Cambridge " & Format(Date, "yyyymmdd") & " " & "Counts"

Is there a way to get the vlookup function to return the cell address, rather than the value, of the lookup?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a sheet with multiple tabs - 1 per employee. I'm trying to run an index on a select tab based on the contents of a cell in order to do a summary across all employees/tabs.
The person's name is Tulley and is listed on the summary page in cell A11. =INDEX(TULLEY!$B$4:$M$5,1,$B11) returns the correct value. I would like to replace the tab reference with the name of the person concatenated with an exclamation point. This yields TULLEY! -
INDIRECT("A11")&"!". I thought that I would be able to replace the TULLEY! in the index formula with the indirect formula. This formula returns TULLEY!, but the index function doesn't work: =INDEX(INDIRECT("A11")&"!"&$B$4:$M$5,1,$B11).
TPR, DISPLAY and FEATURE columns generate a rating based off of an IF function. In the Executed column, I need TPR, FEATURE, DISPLAY to be averaged together...BUT....In I want the average only include columns where there are numbers. For example in row one the eqn would be (1+3+2)/3, but in row 2 the eqn would be (1+1)/2...can I state an average function within an if function? Or what would be the best way to create an eqn for this?? I have thousands of rows to complete and doing it manually is not an option.

i dont know what is the correct range inside the match fuction to identiy the row number inside the Data sheet, i think the solution would be match(a2,Data!a2:a13,0) but things might get complicated if you have multiple worksheet such as sheet2: Data , sheet3: Data2, sheet3: Data 3
and each table has unsorted details compared to others sheets (Data vs Data 2)
I am performing a lookup using the populare user defined function nlookup, which does not take a lookuparray argument to find lookup values. But I only want to return lookup values that fall into a certain array. To accomplish this, I figured out that I need a way to specify a condition of the type "if cell address of lookup value falls within range"
It should be possible if I find a way to return the cell address of the nlookup value, but as nlookup is not limited by a lookuparray argument, so I was not able to use the address/index/match that come up in similar questions.
I am trying to create a table showing the yearly average occupancy rates per quarter for every year between may 1998 and december 2008 inclusive (for licensed hotels, motels and guest houses, and serviced apartments in Australia; if that interests you).
I have a spreadsheet with a row of data showing the appropriate quarterly results for those dates. Let's say the data for this is displayed A1 through to A44.
For the yearly per quarter averages, let's say they are to go from B1 through to B11, I know I could put, for each year, an average formula with the relevant data range. Finding this to be tedious, I tried to fill-down.
I learnt the hard way however (not being too aware of how excel's grammar ticks) that the fill down function will not work for me. i.e., if B1 contained the average for the data range A1:A4 (the four quarters of 1998), the filled-in B2 would have the data range A2:A5 (i.e. the 2nd quarter of 1998 through to the 3rd quarter of 1999).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a data range - C4:C54 and I want an AVERAGE calculated in C56, but I only want a value displayed in C56 when a data entry is put in. Up to 50 data points could be put in anywhere e.g. only 14 values in C16:C30, or 44 values in C6:C50, or the full 50 in C4:C54.
The formula I've been trying is
=IF(ISERROR(C4:C54<>""),AVERAGE(C41:C54),"")
However, when no values are in the range it displays DIV/0! whereas I'd like the cell blank.
How do I perform average for a range and be able to exclude outliers. For example I am taking 100 measurements, some are not measureable and recorded as 9999.9. How do I average 100 values, but exclude all the 9999.9?

Is there a way to include an if then else function to an average formula that will skip cells with zero?
I went into better detail in the attached example.
I have data in Column A as follows:
A1 15
A2
A3 20
A4 56
A5 45
A6
A7 71
A8
A9 23
where cells A2, A6 and A8 are empty.
I want to be able to AVERAGE or SUM the first four nonblank cells. I know I could manually select the cells, but I have a spreadsheet with 30 columns and 40 rows, and the data (including empty cells) in each column is different.
Is there a single formula that will find the first four nonblank cells and then perform the AVERAGE or SUM function?
I'm trying to find the best Macro or Formula to get this done.
Sheet 1 has a list of salesperson in column "A" and the total numbers they made on Monday (in the same row, column "E"), Tuesday (In the same row, column "F"), Wednesday (In the same row, column "G"), Thurday (In the same row, column "H"), and Friday (In the same row, column "I"). I also have a sheet for each individual salesperson. I need to find a Macro or a Formula that I can use to give me the average of the numbers if "A5" = the salesperson in Sheet 3 then avarage the numbers from "E5" to "I5" and I want the results to show up in cell "D35".
I wonder if it is possible to formulate a formula in which average values are recalculated after every added record.
For example:
Record 1 shows an amount of 200 so the average value after 1 record is (200/1) 200. Record 2 shows an amount of 250 so the average value after 2 records is ((200+250)/2) 225. Record 3 shows an amount of 210 so the average value after 3 records is ((200+250+210)/3) 220.
I don't want to calculate all averages manually and most probably there must be a formula that is able to recalculate the average value after another record is added to the file.
I need some assistance in using an array formula which averages based on multiple arguments. The relevent range names in my input data are:
Col A - Manager Col B - Report Type Col C - Days taken to Complete
and I have used Validation Lists to include several different Managers and 5 Report Types which I'll call A - E, with Days taken to Complete an input. Each Manager may have 0 to numerous instances of each report during each period.
I'm trying to build a table which includes each manager and the average number of days taken to complete each report. The complication is that, while Report A & B are separate reports, for this purpose I need to get an average for A & B together.
For C, D & E, I have used the following:
{=AVERAGE(IF((Type="C")*(Manager="Smith"),Days_taken_to_Complete))}
For A&B, I have tried:
{=AVERAGE(IF((Type="A")*(Type="B")*(Manager="Smith"),Days_taken_to_Complete))}
but this doesn't work. Could someone please advise me the correct formula if either of two states in a named range are to be used to average a second named range?
I am working with averages of ACT scores and Class rank percentages. I cannot figure out how to exclude all the zeros and/or DNR (do not rank) values that are in those columns. For example if I have 10 items, and 2 are DNR, the I want to exclude the 2 DNR's in my average. I tried putting it in the Row or Column area and unchecking what I wanted to exclude and then drag it into the data area, but that didn't work either.
