Using Excel To Determine Combination Of Numbers That Equal Set Total?

Is there anyway to use Excel to determine which of a set of numbers equals a total? I encounter this issue when dealing with accounts receivable. We receive payments with no details on what is being paid. I have a list of open items and a total being paid. I would like to have Excel determine which combination of invoices can be added together to match the payment.
If I have A1 = 1, A2 = 3, A3 = 5, A4 = 7, and A5 = 9 in column A, Would someone know how to get the combination of numbers in column A that equal 13, or 24 for example?
I have list of dollar amounts given to me and a general ledger sum which some of those in the list must equal. How can I determine which of these amounts will equal a given ledger total?
Trying to manipulate a macro I recorded to be slightly more dynamic with some VBA code. The macro has saved me a lot of time however each month I have to re-do it due to the date changing and I'm sure there must be an easy way to adapt the below code.
Current Code (it repeats afterwards as there are lots and lots of sheets I need to perform the action on).
What I'm after is a way to alter the range highlighted based upon matching a cell in "Raw Data.xls' and a cell in "Volume Tracking.xlsm".
The cell A43 in "Raw Data.xls" contains a month (which changes every month); if the month is Jan then I would want the Range to remain as AE33. If it's Feb then I would want the Range to be AF33 (and so on).
In "Volume Tracking.xlsm" I have the months in cells AE4 (Jan), AE5 (Feb) etc.
Is there a way to locate the column in "Volume Tracking.xlsm" on row 4 that contains the value found in A43 in "Raw Data.xls" and then paste what was copied out of "Raw Data.xls" C43 and paste it in to row 33 of the correct column that holds the matching month?
If not could I add code to say if cell A43 in "Raw Data.xls" = Jan then paste to AE33, if Feb then paste to AF33 and so on.........
I guess this would work in a similar manner as Solver, but where Solver tweaks cell values to equal a given total, I've got a set of cells and I need to find the combination that equals an amount in another cell. Is there a way to do this?
How do I enter a formula in excel 2010 that will give the total amount of times each number is in this group. Example : how many times (total) the number 12 showed up , how many times the number 27 showed, and so on for each number that is in the entire group of numbers, from 1 to 80 .
Here is the page I will copy and paste into a workbook sheet from the internet that i want to evaluate the times each number was called.
Very new to all this , I am a bit aged and need not to learn excel A to Z, just need to know what correct statements /formulas have to be entered to do what i desire.
I am only interested in the total count of the small bold numbers 1 to 80, each single digit 1 to 9 and double digits 10 to 80 will be in their separate cells. The large bold three digit numbers and dates/times will have to be erased (manually) before the calculation takes place.
how can i get excel to read column c and return the answer into column f i have scores in column c that look like eg. 2-2 what i need excel to do is count the goals in the example obviously 4 and then in column f if its over 2.5 return the value over but if its under 2.5 it returns under is this possible please given the format of column c?
Is there a formula or macro that will identify which cells on a spreadsheet containing various dollar values will add up to a predetermined total? I work in Accounts Receivable and sometimes vendors send in payments for several invoices with no instructions as to the application. I want to be able list the available invoice amounts on a spreadsheet, and be able to tell which of the cells add up to the payment amount.
I have a list of numbers from 1-7 would look like this each number in a seperate cell.
3 5 1 2 3 5 6 7 2 4 5 6 7 6 7 4 6 6
I want to use one number from each row (which there is only 6 rows) and then find every number from 1-7 that will complete the sequence 1-7. So with the numbers above (using one number from each row) the only other numbers that could be used would be 3 or 5.
The combos that would work: row 1 use 3 ----------- row 1 use 5 row 2 use 1 ----------- row 2 use 1 row 3 use 2 ----------- row 3 use 2 row 4 use 7 ----------- row 4 use 7 row 5 use 4 ----------- row 5 use 4 row 6 use 6 ---------- row 6 use 6 5 would complete ---------- 3 would complete
Remember the numbers and how many numbers in each row can change but will always be 1-7 and I always need to find every number that can complete the sequence 1-7 by using one number from each row.
I receive a large file every month with 30K+ rows of data that need to be manipulated manually before I can send it off. Within the data are "chunks" of data that are anywhere from 1 to 90 rows each. Each chunk needs to total 100 or less, and while they do for the most part, some end up over 100 due to rounding (usually 100.02 or so). The rows above and below each chunk are blank, and I currently have a calc to add each chunk, and flag it if it's over 100. Then, I have to go through each of the flagged chunks and manually decrease one of the lines to make the total 100.
Is there any way to automate any or all of this procedure?
I have attached a sample file with two chunks of data. The actual files contains 14 more columns to the left that aren't shown.
I am trying to show the all possible combinations of a set of numbers in Excel, in my case I think permutations are more appropriate to use. For example: there are three numbers 1, 2, 3 I want to show results like:
1, 2, 3 1, 3, 2 2, 1, 3 2, 3, 1 3, 2, 1 3, 1, 2
The functions in Excel available only give the total number, but I want to see these combinations!
The numbers are file attributes, as you know these are
Normal = 0 Read Only = 1 Hidden = 2 System = 4 Volume = 8 Directory = 16 Archive = 32
These numbers are cumulative, so if a file has an attribute of 5 it is Read Only and System (1 + 4), it can't be anything else. Or if it has an attribute of 6 it can only be Hidden and System (2 + 4).
What I need is a spreadsheet that calculates every possible combination of these numbers, so I can check my Select Case statement has covered all possible combinations.
If it was just a one off project I could just work it out "by hand", but I have realised that there are several other projects I have that this would be useful in.
e.g. I am doing a skills matrix at work. If I give each skill a number, then give each employee a cumulative total number then I can have a spreadsheet that shows their skills. For each employee number there will only be one possible combination of skill that add up to that number.
My employer often adds new skills, so each time this happens I will have to check every combination is covered.
So I really need a spreadsheet solution, something I can input a group of numbers and it will show me a list of every possible combination of those numbers. The number of numbers in the group will vary, so a solution that only works for a group of (say) 6 numbers won't work. It has to work on a variable group of numbers.
Is there a function, or how would I write a vba to figure out the following.
I have 86 items all with a different price, which come to a total of $348,359.33, is there a way to figure out which combination of the 86 entries will give me a total of $57,673.36
I have a report that I want the total amount (in the bottom right corner, but can vary in row number) to appear in a particular cell in the header. In the macro, I selected the cell & entered "=CTRL+End". It works in reality, but not in a macro. It returns a visual of 0.00, but "=XFB1048565" in the formular bar. How can I get the header cell to return the correct total amount?
I am trying to resize a picture on a worksheet to fit a dynamic measurement(the size of the page is different depending on the contents in cells).
I am doing this all in VBA.
so what I have come up with is that I need to
1) determine the total column width of only the non-hidden(visible) cells. 2) resize my picture to those measurements, so I can get an exact fit, and it doesn't create a new page break, by going over.

I have provided an attachment. what I am trying to accomplish. I am trying to have a worksheet that if I input multiple 3 number combinations into the input cell range, after pressing the sort button, it would then sort, rank and count each 3 number combination for me. So as my attached file illustrates, the input cells would be A9:D14. In this sample the ranking consists of cells A19 - A31 as the ranking columns. Cells F19 - F31 show the counted and sorted results and are ranked accordingly. I need a sort button as illustrated in cell F10 to make the worksheet function after the 3number combinations are inputted in cells A9:D14. How do I get started to make this work? I do not know VBA codes or macros so I will need guidance along the way if this is what is needed. I do have some working knowledge of formulas (e.g. countif, rank, etc.)
I have a list of 10 of my favorite/lucky numbers that I want to play in the lottery. The lottery picks 5 numbers total. I need a way to show me all the possible combinations of my 10 numbers picked in a 5 number draw (hope that makes sense). There are no repeat combinations- for example- I DO NOT WANT 1-2-3-4-5 and 5-4-3-2-1 to come up as separate combinations- so each of my favorite #s needs to be used only once in each combination, and each set used once.
I have searched this board for 2 hours now- read tons of other posts, but not finding a real solution. The output will be a list of all the possible combinations (no repeats, and no permutations) using my 10 favorite numbers. Another example- 1-2-3-4-5 1-2-3-4-6 1-2-3-4-7 1-2-3-4-8 1-2-3-4-9 1-2-3-5-6 1-2-3-5-7 and so on.
How do I create this? I realize the resulting table will be quite a large number of combinations- but we're going to have fun with it and pick a few at random.
I am having a set of names in one column and would like to print various combination of names in to another column. In sample data set, there are 30 names of entries in column B and like to print 4 data set i.e. 1st three set of combination of column B print into the column C similarly for other set of six, twelve and all kind of combination. I have three workers for which I am counting the data from using a countas formula. The cells are A1,B1,C1 and I want to highlight in another formula to the right if these three values do not equal each other, I have tried and if formula referencing each of the combinations of the compares however it does not work in the desired fashion.
I have a range of values in a1:f500 the values are all numbers between 1-25. I then have a value in cell h1. what i need to do is find all numbers that equal to 9 in the range a1:f500 and replace all these 9's with the formula =$h$1 so that i can simply change the values in the range a1:f500 by changing the value to say 12 in cell h1. could someone please text me the vba code that needs to be entered for sheet 1?
I have done is created an Officer Evaluation Form in Word for my Police Chief and the Scores for the different observations are: N/A, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. If for example there are 4 observations and one of the observations is "N/A" for not applicable or not observed and the rest are all 5's I want the formula to ignore the field(s) with the N/A and still come up with an average of 5. The way I have it set up now which is: =AVERAGE(KOW1,KOW2,KOW3,KOW4) it comes up with an average of 3 when I put a N/A in field KOW1 and all 5's in KOW2-KOW4.
I have a list of 600 figures (this may vary) but i need a formula that will look a one particular figure in this list and return if it is one of 5 equal groups. e.g in this example the lowest 125 figures in numeric order would be in group 1 up to the highest 125 figures would be in group 5.
I realise if I limit it to 4 groups then i could use the 'quartile' functions but i am stuck with 5 groups.
I need a conditional formatting formula that will highlight the second instance of a combination of values from two columns.

this formula and have tried various nested ifs and I can come up with a formula that works. What I am trying to do it to is detirmine what my multiplier should be based on a range of numbers. Let me try and explain lets say A1 is a number and B1 is a number and I need the Formula for C1.
If B1 is between 0 and 5 multiply A1 by 2 if B1 is between 5 and 10 multiply A1 by 4. and so on and so on. Is there an easy formula for this? I know it might be trivial but im stumped for some reason.
I'm trying to determine the average of a set of numbers, based on a scale of 1 through 10. There are two columns and it would look something like this:
1 3,452 2 2,990 3 564 4 etc.
I want to determine the STDEV here as well but assume I can just exchange the AVG function with that function, once I know how to tie column B (the numbers) to column A (the rank).
I have an array with an ubound of 10,000 because I will be loading a different amount of numbers each time I run the macro. Is there a way to tell the amount of digits filled inside the array if it is less than 10,000?
