View 3 RepliesI am looking for a function to convert time given by my computer (Local time) in EST (Eastern Standard Time). We are several users of a same file (with timestamp macros) and all time need to be aligned to one time zone (EST), even if all users are working in different time zone (EST, CST and IST).

I use the 'on time' function to kick users out of a shared workbook after 30 minutes of inactivity (i.e. no cells updated). Technically it works, as it does kick out the users.
However the time after which it does so seems to bear no relation to the time I have instructed. Sometimes shorter, sometimes longer! If it is was always longer, I would be happy that there is an error in my code somewhere (i.e. the time value is resetting on an unexpected event that I need to find and alter).
I was wondering if it's possible for several users to be working in an excel file at the same time? I know that 1 person can be working in a file & other users can look at it in Read-only, but is there any way for more than 1 user to be WORKING in it at a time?

I have a simple VBS script that puts the username & current time in columns. When the user saves that time is also placed into a column.
I would like to be able to calculate the amount of time a user has spent on the spreadsheet for the current month & if possible the total time all users have spent on the spreadsheet this months.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an excel workbook that serves as a master workbook. I have to create 30 copies of this workbook, 1 for each site. Each workbook will have small differences in the data held. This is because I will refresh the sheet before saving it. There is a dropdown list on the 1st tab of the workbook that contains the names of the sites. The sequense, I suppose would be like: select the next name on the dropdown list"calculate" the spreadsheet to enable the refreshsome sort of "save-as" with the name from the dropdown list forming the name of the file. The Master file must be kept intact.select the next name from the dropdown listcalculate the sheet ........and so on I have a few other things I will add to the script like Protect Sheet etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Workbook contains several UserForms in which employees will be entering hours and activities on a daily basis. In the UserForm, they select their department and enter hours for each specific type of work/activity that shows up for that department in the userform. They click the submit button and all the data (date, name, department, type of work and hours) is added to a database table in another sheet, which in turn feeds a number of reports.
I need to be able to have anywhere from 20 to 100+ employees enter their hours on a daily basis, many of them at the same time, all from different locations (within the network of the client's system), using the same UserForms.
We've experimented with Google Drive, but that seems not to be the solution. It kind of works, but is not secure (it installs a copy of the entire workbook on the users system and then synchs the data back to the server upon "save") and way too cumbersome. I've heard of SharePoint, but not every client has that installed (and frankly I don't know how it works).
i have an excel database regarding about 1000 different schemes having the details of their initiation date, budget allocated , up to date expenditure, this month expenditure and many others too. this is a shared workbook and relevant officers enter their data in their relevant columns and rows. the file is shared. now i want that any changes done by mr. what i assume is to add the time to a cell when the wb is saved, when the wb opens, it check for that cell if the same with the date created, if different, then disable the macro button.
I have an expense report, which was originally done in Excel 2003. It still prompts users to open as read only however if they select no, they are not prompted for the password, and it has allowed them to save, so when the next person opens it, they have the previous person's report instead of the clean workbook. I have tried everything to put a password onto it. I know this is really basic stuff, but maybe I am missing a step? I want the end user to be able to make all the changes they want in read only mode and then do a save as, but if the select No when prompted "Open as Read-only?" they should have to put a password in.

I am looking for all Excel files in a folder (WORKING) and determining if they are shared, allowmultipleusers, (WORKING). The problem I am encountering is changing the Excel workbook to a [SHARED] workbook. By that I mean Multiple users can open and make changes. What is the syntax to enable that? As an FYI I can save the [SHARED] workbooks as exclusive (normal), but not the reverse. I have tried Saveas,,,,,,xlshared, but is not working. Here is the VBS code I have (For grins)

I have an excel file on a share site which is accessed by several people. The first tab is set up as a home page which directs the person to the relevent part of the work book that they need. My problem is that as the person saves their updates it also saves the location of the workbook they were in. I want it to return to the " homepage" automatically each time it is opened.

I can open a file at specific time using TaskSchedule. How do I close it at specific time?
I am trying to write a simple one-line code for that but do not know how to combine two statements:
Application .OnTime TimeValue("17:01:00")
and
ActiveWorkbook.Close
Also, this workbook is updated every 1 minute using the same OnTime method and everything works perfectly. However, when I try to close file there is a message saying that "OnTime method object application failed" and I have to click "Debug" or "End".
Only when I click "End", the file is closed.
My team and I are attempting to track how much time we are spending in each Excel workbook we create (all workbooks are created from a single template). The problem is that we are often jumping back and forth between different workbooks throughout the day so manual entry methods are neither accurate or practical. Is there a way, with macros or formulas, to embed a time tracker in the template workbook that would only record active (when workbook is selected) time in the workbook?
