VBA: How To Copy Contents Of *.txt File To Textbox
Apr 30, 2007
I have created a string that contains the absolute path to a text file. Using VBA how would I move the text within this text file into Textbox1 on Sheet1?
I am just looking for basic code.

I have a multiple sheet workbook designed to collect information which is all collated on the last sheet. On one sheet I have a textbox (not the drawing textbox) which is designed to take a string of characters of a specific lenght (150chars) and works well. I'm just trying to get the code to work with a textbox on the same sheet for now, then when its working change it to copy over to another sheet.
Sub TextBox_To_TextBox()
Dim x As Integer
Dim PreEmp As TextBox, PreEmp2 As TextBox
Dim theText As String
Set PreEmp = ActiveSheet.TextBoxes("PreEmp")
Set PreEmp2 = ActiveSheet.TextBoxes("PreEmp2")
For x = 1 To PreEmp.Characters.Count Step 150
theText = PreEmp.Characters(Start:=x, Length:=150).Text
PreEmp2.Characters(Start:=x, Length:=150).Text = theText
Next
End Sub
I'm calling the sub routine but nothing seems to happen.

I just found a code to copy file path and file contents. However it is copying folder path and folder contents.here is my requirement.I will specify a path, macro has to copy that file name in a particular cell, then it has to copy all its contents.
ex:
file name 1 has 3 sub files in it, file name 2 has 2 sub files in it--
column AColumn B
file name1file contents
file name1file contents
file name1file contents
file name2file contents
file name2file contents
And also i have extend this macro to write a index function. i will tell u about this. but first i need above thing I researched but I didn't find.
I need file name in a column then i need file contents in b column.
if a file has 10 file contents in a file then that file name should come 10 times in a column, and in b column all its contents.

Basically, the code copy contents from 4 "Child" files to a "Mater" file.
Everything works smoothly but no data is being copied from the "Child" files.
[Code] .....
The other thing I've noticed is that if a "Child" file is open, I cannot run the code. Is there a way that even a "Child" file is open, the code can copy it's contents on the background?

For some reason the following Macro won't work:
Code:
Sub ExtractDataTest()
Dim FilePath$, Row&, Column&, Address$
'change constants & FilePath below to suit
'***************************************
Const FileName$ = "Dxo.xlsx"
Const SheetName$ = "Open"
[Code] .......
I get a run-time error '52' on line ("Bad file name or number"):
Code:
If Dir(FilePath & FileName) = Empty Then
And when location is 'C:' it works and I don't get an error.

S/W Environment: Excel 2010
Some of my worksheets are permission protected. They will allow me only to view the sheets - No editing, copy, cut, sort, add filter, etc. Is there a way to hack this and copy data (including formating) into other / new worksheets?

So I have a need to enter multi-line notes. Using a merged cell not working for me so thinking best to use a Textbox.
This works fine for entering the notes but I need to replicate the content on another Tab in the same Excel workbook.
So lets say I have named my Texboxes 'Textbox1' on one tab, and 'Textbox2' on another tab...... how do I replicate the contents?
I've tried putting =Textbox1 into 'Textbox2' like you would for a normal Cell but that does not work.

I've created a textbox, call it Textbox1, where I've set EnterKeyBehavior and WordWrap to be true. If someone types something like
apples
bananas
cherries
in the textbox, and I use the following code
Code:
Dim TextBoxVal as String
TextBoxVal = Textbox1.Value
then TextBoxVal will be applesbananascherries.
I'd like to have the array be something like
apples,bananas,cherries, or
applesX_X_XbananasX_X_Xcherries,
or something else so I can tell when the user has hit the enter key. Is there any way to do this?

I need to confirm that a date is entered correctly into a userform.
This code works for a command button, but not for a WorkSheet_Change event.
My textbox is the first in the userform, and needs to be checked immediately, as the labels in the rest of the userform all change to reflect the date that was entered.
What is the best way to do this? I tried a keycode = vbKeyReturn option, but cannot get it to work?
Code:
Private Sub DateCheck()
Dim DateString As String
Dim DateProper As Date
Dim EntryOK As Boolean
EntryOK = False
[code]....

I have numerous spreadsheets that I need to open and unhide a sheet, that has XML data stored in cell A1. What I need to do is copy that data in cell A1 and paste it into a text document and save that as an XML file saved as the XLS workbook name with a date stamp.
I'm running into many issues, the main issue is the saving as current file name, and the formatting of the text/XML file.
Here is my current code, which doesn't reference the current file name and is just very generic. Once I get the saving as file-name correct and the formatting of the xml file correct, I will work on it a bit more.
Code:
Sub Test()
Dim Rng As Range
Dim wb As Workbook
Set Rng = Range("A1:A2")
Set wb = Workbooks.Add
With wb
Rng.Copy
[code]....

I have written the following snippet in my code, the purpose of which is to cycle through the text boxes on a form (frmPaymentOrders) and transfer the value of each text box txtPO1 to 10 to the variable PORow (Dim as Long). These will then be pasted into the correct part of my worksheet.
But I keep getting an "Invalid Qualifier" error - even though I think I have correctly qualified the PORow variable as Long.
Code:
For i = 1 To 10
PORow.Value = ["frmPaymentOrders.txtPO" & i]
Next i

I am trying to populate the first 12 columns in the last row of the active sheet from 12 UserForm TextBoxes (TB5 thru TB16). Here is the
With Range("A65536").End(xlUp)
For i = 1 To 12
.Offset(0, i - 1).Value = Me.Controls("TB" & i + 4).Value
MsgBox "Cycle " & i
Next i
End With
The MsgBox returns a "Cycle 13" only once. The Row has the first column filled but none of the rest. I am trying to load TB5 thru TB16 into columns A thru L of the last row (the last row was copied down to get the formatting and this code was supposed to over write the copied data and leave the formatting). But only TB5 loads into Column A!

How can I set the SAVE AS file name to equal A1's cell contents? (More specifically, when I need to rename an existing open file and place my cursor in A1 and hit Save As, I need to new file name to automatically populate A1's cell contents so I don't have to retype the contents of A1.)

I am trying to automatically reference the contents of another file into my main file. Basically I have one schedule that I've automatically generated in AutoCAD, and another formatted template. The AutoCAD schedule is completely unformated.
I want to include a link to the AutoCAD scheule (a *.CSV file) on my main spreadsheet and have the autoCAD schedule populate my template. I've done some reading, primarily on here, and I think I need to use either the INDIRECT() or the INDEX() function.
I can get INDIRECT() to work, but it's fairly repetitive (not overly important, but still.....). More importantly, though, the schedule file has to be open, which I would like to avoid if possible. INDEX(), I just can't figure out how to work!

The sheet to be exported is titled TI
I need the name of the name of the txt file to use the values in cell AE1 & Q1 from a sheet titled Project Report. eg cell AE1 contains 1783 and Q1 contains Ore Vally so the file name needs to be 1783 Ore Valley.txt
In the sheet TI, under column A, there are cells that contain the number 0. I want the export to ignore any rows which have a 0 under column A
The data from each colum in the sheet TI needs to be separated by TABs and not commas, ful stops, semi colons, colons etc etc.
Once all of this works, i need to be able to just click on cell J1 in sheet Project Report so that with this single click the txt file is produced.

My associates have saved about 2,000 .zip files in a single repository. Each zip file contains a .pdf, and a file called "metadata.xml" - the metadata files are small, only 1-2Kb.
What I'd like to do is import the contents of each metadata.xml file into a single workbook so I can build an inventory of the pdf files.
The full path looks like this:
Z:PrincetonGlobal DataFinancial DataFinancial DataWCFNDL_PRODUCTION128650_TH1X0_ProTechLLC_A_Eng_BBOT__20140317132245.195_bbot.zip
Everything up to and including FNDL_PRODUCTION is exactly the same for each file. Everything after, varies, and is not predictable.
I'm thinking there is some way to say "for each file in repository, import metadata.xml content..."
