Waterfall Chart - Delete Item
Jan 9, 2007
I have a Excel Charts (waterfall graph) which has let us say 10 items in the rows. the first one represents the intial and the last one represents finish. If I want to delete one item in between the first and last, the finish item vanishes. For example I have the following series and I want to delete item G from it. The Finish item vanishes from the graph
Intial200
A100100
B7030
C9020
D5040
G4020
Finish30

I am building this waterfall chart. I'd like to put conditional color formatting to change the vertical bar automatically e.g. if it is positive, the bar color is green and if it is negative the bar color is red.

Standard bar chart. They want our company to always be Yellow. This is a industry standard. Our columns (the bar) needs to be Yellow. As new companies are added to the series, it might change locations in the order. For now, the location is 9th.
Can use formula or use VBA. Can't seem to find a way using the Excel interface to do this.

I manage an monthly inventory spreadsheet with over 100 various items in the master list. However in any single month there may be only 5 or 10 active items that need to be reported on. How do I develop a macro that will check the "items on hand" column and delete the entire row if the quantity is "0". My report is limited to showing only items on hand and not the entire list of items.

You can find attached the workbook I am working on.
In my workbook I have four sheets. Only two sheets are relevant in this case: "Sheet1" and "List". On "Sheet1" there in column A there is big range of codenumbers (highlighted with red).
On the "List" worksheet I have a smaller list (highlighted with green).
I have a code also in module1 but the code is not working.
I would like my macro to do the following. Check the code number from the "List" worksheet (green) and search for it in "Sheet1" column A (red). If this codnumber can be found in column A then leave the number on the green list. If it cannot be found in column A then, delete it from the green list. If you open the file, you can see on the "List" worksheet that there are three code numbers in the green range. The upper and the bottom code number can be found on the "Sheet1" column A (red) range, but the middle number cannot be found. So if the macro would work correctly then it would delete the middle number, and leave the other two untouched!

Any way to use a search form I've created to delete data from the original sheet. What I'm doing here is using advanced filter to copy data from the original database onto a temporary sheet to display in this list box. I've gotten almost everything to work properly, but since this is populated by advanced filter, I don't really even know where to start on my delete button.
Code:
Private Sub Search()
Dim Criteria As Range
Dim SearchRange As Range
Dim SearchResults As Range
Set Criteria = Range("Values!Criteria")
[Code] ......
So I was thinking something like this:
Code:
Private Sub cmdDelete_Click()
lstResults.Value.delete
End Sub
But I know this won't work.

I have a combobox which is manually scrolled through using the down arrow key. As the different combobox items are viewed, I would like to be able to delete the currently viewed item from the list if desired by clicking on a commandbutton.
The list items are contained in the range of B2:B500. Also, since this places a gap in the list, I would like to shift the remaining cells values in column B up to close the gap.

So here's the setup: A customer purchases a service which lasts 6-months. As such, revenue recognition for the company can only occur as the service is provided. So if a person orders a $600 service at the beginning of a month, revenue will be recognized at $100 for the next 6 months. I'm trying to create an Excel Waterfall chart which will show the monthly revenue recognition amounts for all orders depending on the date which they were ordered.
I've attached a sample of what I'm looking to do. It's become tricky for me because Revenue Recognition is pro-rated based on the date ordered (i.e. order on the 20th of a month so at the end of the month 1/3 of the month is recognized as revenue). I'm looking for something that will populate the percentage of the order amount, each month, that will be recognized. I've populated what row 3 should be, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to apply a formula or something across all cells.

I have an excel form with a command (submit) button that opens up Outlook when clicked. I am looking for a way to have this submit button disappear when the user selects a specific item in a drop down list to make sure they do not email the form when it is used for a promotion (Promotion would be selected in the drop down).

I was asked to create a Waterfall chart in PowerPoint, which stumped me both in its purpose and how to create it. Is this a standard chart, an add-in, or a chart created by modifying a standard chart?
Two related questions:
What is the best resource (book or web) for advanced charting in Excel/PowerPoint 2010? I just ordered "Charts and Graphs: Microsoft Excel 2010" (MrExcel Library) by Bill Jelen because it had the Waterfall chart in its index. That chart isn't in the "Excel 2010 Bible" or the older "Excel Charts" book by John Walkenbach and is only mentioned briefly in Jelen's "Excel 2010 in Depth."
I'm an advanced Excel user and was wondering whether there are still more charting options in Excel than there are in PowerPoint. I know that used to be the case, but it seems in 2010 that PowerPoint charting has nearly the same functionality as Excel charting or are there charts that are best done in Excel? (...putting aside linking/updating functionality).

I have created quite a nice little macro that;
drills through a lot of key figures, updates a pivot chart and copies the chart to powerpoint.
However it crashes on one particular data set every time with this error:
Run-time error '1004':
Unable to set the _Default property of the pivot item class
The code where the debugger stops is the last line below here.
lngKpi = Sheets("Helpfile"). Cells(lngRow, 2)
Sheets("Charts").Select
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("DK").Activate
ActiveChart.PivotLayout.PivotTable.PivotFields("KPI # (overall").CurrentPage = lngKpi
I can manually change the pivot chart to the keyfigure it crashes on and thereby workaround the problem in the macro. Also it works for more than 50 other keyfigures without problems.

Using Excel 2007. Is there a straightforward way to do a waterfall chart?
eg. stacked bars running from left to right.
First Column = 2011 Headcount
2nd Column = stacked bar with additions (by category) - stepping up from the 2011 total.
3rd Column = stacked bar with reductions (by category) - steppind down from the first column + 2nd colum total.
4th column = 2011 exit (which will be at the same height as the bottom of the 3rd column).

Excel Userform
VB:
'enables user to click [U]highlight and select[/U] an item in ListBox1 and ListBox2 item (same row in index) is also [U]highlighted[/U] (highlighted only not selected)
Private Sub ListBox1_Click()
ListBox2.ListIndex = ListBox1.ListIndex
End Sub
Question: Is it also possible to enable a user to click to select an item in ListBox1 and ListBox2 item is also selected simultaneously (same row in index). Is there excel vb code to do this?
I think the code may be along the lines of the ListBox SelectedIndex property. What would be the Excel VB code equivilant for the ListBox SelectedIndex property, if so?

numberdesc
1_______yellow
1_______yellow
1_______blue
2_______purple
2_______purple
3_______green
3_______orange
4_______black
I need some way that can identify when the item in the description column doesnt match the first item of the same number- for example, here the 1-blue and 3-orange would be flagged because they should match the 1-yellow and 3-green.
I need to do this on a much larger scale (approximately 20,000 data points), so I wanted to create a formula or macro that could do this for me.. I thought making a reference page with would work but I keep getting an error.. I haven't done VBA in a while, so I may have syntax errors.
If Range("A2:A9").Sheets("Sheet1") = Range("A2:A6").Sheets("Ref") And Range("B2:B9").Sheets("Sheet1") = Range("B2:B6").Sheets("Ref") Then
Range("C2:C9").Sheets("Sheet1") = "x"
End If

I am getting close to finishing the drop down menu capability when filling in column L in tab Transactions. However, there is a snag. When I enter part of account say "fin" (the important part here is that the part of the word should not be the beginning of the account name) - then I select an account from the menu - but it does not stay in the cell if the part of the name is the beginning of the account name - all is fine.

I have a worksheet with 300 rows and I have a separate worksheet that contains graphs based on the data in the 300 rows.
The data is continually updated but stays at 300 rows. I add a new row at 301 and then I delete row 1.
I set the graphs up with a Chart Data Range of =GData!$B$1:$AB$300
As I add and delete rows the Chart Data Range reduces so after adding and deleting 3 rows the Chart Data Range is now =GData!$B$1:$AB$297
How can I get the Chart Data Range to stay at =GData!$B$1:$AB$300?

My friend has set up an excel workbook with a sheet for every month (labelled Jan graphs, Feb graphs, Mar graphs etc) which has 7 pie charts per sheet. The problem is the pie charts are showing the 0% fields and the data labels are overlapping. I have found a macro that gets rid of the 0% labels but I need to repeat the macro for all the 7 charts on each sheet and all 12 worksheets for each month of the year. I am very new to VBA and coding of any type and have looked but can't find the solution.
The macro I am currently using for "Chart1" on "Jan graphs" is below. The charts are labelled Chart1, Chart2, Chart3 etc.
Sub ClearLabels()
Worksheets("Jan graphs").ChartObjects("Chart 1").Chart.ApplyDataLabels _
Type:=xlShowLabelAndPercent
For Each x In Worksheets("Jan graphs").ChartObjects("Chart 1"). _
Chart.SeriesCollection(1).Points

I am using a vlookup and have a problem. I am assigning a category to an item number based on the first two characters of the item number. For example item number 60123 would equal scrap because of the first two characters of 60. But the item number can begin with either a number or letter. Here is the formula I am using that works for item numbers that begin with numbers:
=VLOOKUP(VALUE(LEFT(E2,2)),Sheet3!A:B,2,FALSE)
It works fine until I reach a item number that begins with a letter, then I get the dreaded #Value error. If I take the value out of the formula then it works for the letter based number items but not for the number based item numbers.
