Automatically Convert Older XLS Versions To Newer

May 30, 2009

I have a dir with over 150.000 files in it, especially pdf, doc and xls. Now I'm looking for a script or program that will automatically search the entire directory and look for old xls files, open them and save them in a new(er) version. I'm working with a software that needs to use these XLS files in my directory but it can't use the old xls-versions. It's an impossible job to search by hand for the old versions and put them in a new(er) version.

Convert Multiple Versions Of Cell Contents To Single Version?

Feb 28, 2014

I would like to automate the conversion of multiple versions of company names contained in cells to a single company name. i.e. XYZ Inc., XYZ Co., XYZ to all cells XYZ. My data file contains numerous versions of company names. I want them to all be the same company name so sorting data is easier. I now do this manually and it is getting tedious and time consuming. Can I build a table with the different versions that then chamges the cells to a single version that I choose?

Picking Newer Of Multiple Entries

Oct 22, 2013

I have a long table like this:

Car,date last washed
Civic, 11/1/2012
F150, 5/4/2013
Corvette, 7/3/2013

If I washed the Corvette, I'd add another row to it:

Corvette, 10/22/2013

And I would like to remove the "Corvette, 7/3/2013" entry. What's the easiest (read: least user intervention) way of doing this?

Prevent Created With A Newer Version Message

Sep 7, 2007

I am running Excel 97 on one PC and 2003 on another, both need access to a workbook and both need to amend that workbook.

In my Macros I have a line in the Workbook to save etc

Workbooks("WB Name").Close SaveChanges:=True

When I run the macro on the 97 PC I get a message stating that the "file was created with a newer version of Excel Continue with save Y/N"

I have tried

Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Workbooks("WB Name").Close SaveChanges:=True
Application.DisplayAlerts = True

but the file does not save.

Excel 2003 :: Prevent Conversion Of XLS File To A Newer Format?

Mar 27, 2013

Is there a way to disable the Convert button on the File menu and also to limit the Save As file types? I have a workbook that I maintain in Office 2003 that gets filled out by customers and returned. When a user with a newer version of Excel converts the file, it doesn't function properly when I go open it. I believe the conversion issue has to do with Active X Controls, but I'm using them to do some things that won't work with Forms Controls, so replacing them would be a last resort. Also, upgrading Office isn't an option at this point.

How To Deactivate Older Rows By Date

Nov 13, 2013

I have an excel sheet with date as the first column and all other data being numeric. I put in a code to increment by 1 everytime the user clicks on a cell, the contents within it. the code is below.

VB:

Private Sub Worksheet_BeforeDoubleClick(ByVal Target As Range, Cancel As Boolean)
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("B2:H100")) Is Nothing Then
Cancel = True
Range(Target.Address).Value = Val(Range(Target.Address).Value) + 1
End If
End Sub

This does its job for the time being, but I want to allow changes only to the row which has the current date and deactivate all other rows for any editing. So that if I click anywhere else but the row with the current date nothing happens.

Converting Older And Varying Data Into New?

Apr 1, 2013

I have been tasked with converting our old inventory system into a new one. Here is an example of the conversions I need to do,

I need to convert this:

A1 A2
1.50 OD x .035 W 304, WD ASTM A-269
1.50"OD X .065 W 304,SMLS ASTM A-269
1.50"OD SCH 40 304, SMLS A-312

INTO

A1 A2
304-WD-ASTM A269-1.50X.035 304 WELDED ASTM A269 1.50X.035
304-SMLS-ASTM A269-1.50X.065 304 SEAMLESS ASTM A269 1.50X.065
304-SMLS-ASTM A312-1.50 SCH 40 304 SEAMLESS ASTM A312 1.50 SCH 40

The current plan is for me to do this manually over thousands of entries over the next few months, but if I can do it in a quick fashion that would be way better.

Subtract Cell If Older Than Year With Other Conditions

Jun 27, 2014

I am setting up a workbook for our absence reporting for work and have everything figure out except one thing. I have it where it subtracts points if the points were given over a year ago and also have it to subtract one point for every 90 days of perfect attendance. The problem however is if someone gets 5 points for a no show on January 1, 2013 and then don't have another reportable until June 01, 2014, it subtracts the five points and then an additional 1 since they had over 90 days of perfect attendence and it also goes into negative when employees cannot have negative attendence points. Is there a way to keep the extra point from being deducted and keep it from going into negative? Below is my workbook and the formulas used.

Macro For Different Versions

May 4, 2009

I have been working on this spreadsheet off and on for a while now. I have a macro that works in Excel 2007 and a different one that works in 2003 (thanks to the help of Mr.Excel.) My problem is, the people who will be using this spreadsheet all have various versions of Excel. Is there a way to script this macro to work for all versions, or do I have to have a different script for each version of Excel? The one I am currently in need of is a script for 2002. See below for the script for the 2007 version. If there isn't a way to make a "one for all" solution, some assistance on a script that would work on 2002 would be great! The section in red is the section that returns the error when people try to run it with earlier versions of Excel.

Excel 2010 :: Convert Numbers To Dates Automatically In Workbook?

1- I dont know why but sometimes excel 2010 converts numbers to dates automatically in my workbook. I use this macro to solve the problem, but since last week it is not working. I get an error: "Method 'NumberFormat' of object 'Range' failed".

2- because it should work in all cells of the workbook, the macro must make changes only in the cells with absolute numbers (ex: 1223) but must not change if in the cell there is a date like 12-may-2012 (numbers with hyphens).

This is my function:
