View 9 Replies View RelatedI know you can take a number from one cell and combine it with number from another cell and make it one number. What I need to do is the reverse. Take a two digit number in a cell and separate it into single digits in two cells. If you have the number 50 in a cell, then is there a formula that will take the 5 and put it in cell and take the 0 and put it in the cell beside it?

For example:
111112221233313
111212222233323
111312223233333
111412224233343

111712227233373
111812228233383
111912229233393
given the number set how many times does the number 5 show up in the 4th digit. I know its 3 but for the data size I need to run it on, it is impossible to count.
What function would count how many times a certain number shows up in the same spot?

Basically I have a number in column A, just wondering is that any faster to allocate the number into individual cell as shown in the attached file.
I work in the flooring industry and the format we use for cuts of carpet/vinyl is 40-3 (for 40.25 feet), etc. So we are trying to create an excel spreadsheet that will add up these cuts. Right now it's kind of a mess because we have decimals in a column we will be hiding and are converting that to our industry format.
The formula I am having trouble with is as follows:
=MID(A18,1,FIND(".",A18)-1)&"-"&MID(A18,FIND(".",A18),3)*12
The problem is that whenever the totals end in zero, the formula won't convert 40.00 to 40-0. It gives me an error every time. If the total is 40.25 it will convert it to 40-3 just fine.
I have a column that contains 4 digit numbers that I want to convert to a text value. Here is my example
Number Text Value
7004 RBPA
7002 DCVA
7001 PVBA
.....etc.
There is a total of 10 different number values. I want to include the conversion vba into an existing macro that is performing other functions on the spreadsheet.
Is there any way changing general four digit number into hours and minutes?
I have almost 31000 rows of imported data, showing arrival and departure times with four digits (dep 2130, arr 0130) without colons and I need to subtract dep from arr to get block hours. Is there a way to add colon to multiple cells or some other solution to my problem?
Adding colon to 62000 cells one by one does not sound that good to me.
Nice to meet you all. I'd be grateful for any help I could get on this as I have tried it and I'm a bit stumped...
What I need to do is the following:
Convert a 4 digit number (e.g. 1234) in a single cell to a 4 letter string (e.g BCDE) and have the output appear in another cell.
The conversion should be as follows:
0=A
1=B
2=C
3=D
4=E
5=F
6=G
7=H
8=I
9=J
0=K
So, for example, 3678 in one cell should be converted to DGHI in the target cell.
Is it possible to enter a 4-digit number (i.e. 1400) into a textbox and have it display 14:00 and have the time entered into a cell?

I can either use excel or access or write this.
Example 1 , r = 2 , I = 1, L = 3. .
If I write RIL in column 1 , column 2 should say 213 and column 3 should add 2+1+3 and display 7.
Example 2:
Col 1 = Infosys Ltd
Col 2 should say 1587313 344
Col 3 = 1 + 5 + 8+ 7+ 3+1+3 3+4+4 = 39 , 3+ 9 = 12 , add 1+2 = 3

I would like to divide that single column into seven columns with only the single or double digit in it, ie
1 in a cell
2 in a cell
6 in a cell
3 in a cell
10 in a cell

2 in a cell
Have been using MID and FIND togther, but when I get to the double digits like 10 an 11 I run into problems.
I have an address (city, state, zip format) in a cell. Some of the zip codes only have a 4-digit zip code which is the way the file was received. I know these zip codes have leading zero. How can I convert these to a five-digit code. Examples are as follows:
Waltham MA 2453

I have many dates in a column in a 6 digit format such as:
950223
950224
950225

How can I convert these dates in the column to 2/23/1995, 2/24/1995 etc?
I have the following dates in a column and need to convert them to the short date format:
91113 (Sept 11, 2013)
100713 (Oct 07, 2013)
122612 (Dec 26, 2012)
40413 (April 04, 2013)
Those are just some examples. When I convert these as is I get dates that are really far in the future. Some dates are 5 digit and some are 6.

is there a way to convert many entries of dates and time entered in the above way into actual dates and times? is it as simple as making a custom format? if so, whats the syntax?
the entries appear to be the year(4 characters), the month (2 characters), the day of month (2 characters), and the time of day (6 characters, AM/PM)
i dont need the time, so the last part ("120000[0:GMT]") isn't necessary.
I have an 8-digit number like this :

I have attached a sample file with two sheets in it. One is the "before" data format and the other sheet is the "after" example of how I would like it to come out. Macro to sort column data.
I have a spreadsheet in the following format (just a flavour of the format)
SD 1
SD2
SD3
1a
1b
1c
2a
[Code]...
Each row refers to a survey response, the first ten columns being standard demographics.
Following this each group of 5 columns for the next 100 columns represents a single response. What I want to do is convert each single row to multiple rows with the same first 10 columns and each single response on its own row like so:
SD1
SD2
SD3
a
b
c
a
[Code]...
I found an excellent similar example on this board here Convert a single row to multiple rows with the same A column value However I would like my macro to convert to rows even if the cells are blank So each existing row will generate 10 individual reponse rows regardless of data found).
I am interested to know how this would work and how i could modify the variables to acommodate 15 standard demographic fields and 20 columns per individual responses.
In row G, I have a wide range of values from -3000 up to 2500.
These values are generated from a formula. =A5-B5.
I need a script that will scan row G between G5:G500 and give them a letter value.
Convert anything less than 0 to an A
Convert anything equal to 0 or equal to 1 to a B
Convert anything between 2 and 7 to a C
Convert anything greater than 7 to a D
It can place the new categorized letter value over the original formula in row G or put the letter value right next to it in H.
I need to create formulas that reference a single date and output date ranges. The objective is to have a person input a Monday date in any given month and receive a four weeks out worth of dates and ranges. For example: In a lone cell, the person inputs 10/13/08. Automatically, the sheet produces the next full week range: October 19 – October 25 in a single cell and also produces a cell for each date. Example: Sunday 19, Monday 20, Tuesday 21, etc…. It should look like:
Monday Date:
10/13/08
October 19 – October 25
Sunday 19
Monday 20
Tuesday 21
Wednesday 22
Thursday 23
Friday 24
Saturday 25
and then repeat for three more weeks. I thought I had it figured out until the month changed. The dates continued in October instead of adding a month. This report will be ran weekly, so simply adding a +1MONTH to some cells will not benefit me as I’ll have to change the formula every week. I want the formula to compute the data without any manipulation over the next several years. The only change will be the Monday date.
I have a two dimentional table that I want to be able to convert to single dimention records so I can import into database as records.
Sample two dimentional table
Description, Week1, Week2, Week 3,
Widget1, 200, 100, 150
Widget2, 75, 25, 30
Widget3, 10, 20, 30
I want to be able to convert above table into format as below
Widget1, week1, 200
Widget1, week2, 100
widget1, week3, 150
widget2, week1, 75
widget2, week2, 25
widget2, week3, 30
widget3, week1, 10
widget3, week2, 20
widget3, week3, 30
I do this each week with with approx, 40,000 records, (single dimention) copying and pasting is becoming a chore. Does anyone know a method to address this via functions, macros, formulas, etc. Number of rows and columns vary each time I repeat the exercise.
