i have read through all threads about permutation, and also a few others. I if I were an Excel Pro I would probably have been able to come up with a solution to my problem based on all the suggestions made, but unfortunately it is (still) all a bit too complex for me.
The problem:
I have between 2 and 5 lists of words, each list in one column:
Column A
red
green
yellow
black
blue green
pink
Column B
shirt
jumper
blouse
coat
t-shirt
skirt
Column C
for women
for men
for girls
extra large
for boys
one size fits all
This is for an online sports management game I play. Basically I have calculated each players skills in each position, and I need to find the best combination of the players on the field to give me the best team.
I have a table as below, and I need to find a solution that gives me what the best combination will be....
Can this be done in Excel? Using the digits 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 create all the permutations/combinations with limits on some of the digits. The digits 0,7,8,9 can only be used a max of 3 times in any one permutation/combination, digits 2,3,4,5,6 can only be used 4 time in any one permutaion/combination, producing a 5-digit string. Example of expected results. 0 1 0 2 7
I am trying to create a list of permutations in a column for example I need a list of numbers 1-20 with no numbers repeating. This is causing my head to hurt and I have been working on this problem for some time.
I have been asked if I can create a pseudo Lottery/Bingo card of 7 images with no repeat cards. The best i can tell is that I need to create a Permutation of the numbers 1 - 7. There should be 5040 combinations of unique possible cards. My problem being I don't know how to create this Permutation in Excel.
I have several items that I would like to combine, lets call them characters A, B, C, D, E
Each character is situated in a different column, next to each other. Below, I would like to create a list of all possible combinations of these characters. The sequence is not important and each row should contain a unique combination of characters.
I have counted 31 combinations for the ABCDE set, namely
1 for ABCDE 5 for A, B, C, D, E each 5 for choosing 5 unique sets of four from a set of five (5!/(4!*(5-4)!) 10 for choosing 10 unique sets of three from a set of five (5!/(3!*(5-3)!) 10 for choosing 10 unique sets of two from a set of five (5!/(2!*(5-2)!)
To complicate matters, I have several other character strings where I would like a list of combinations. For example A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H 9 (a longer set).
By the way, each combination should be spread accross several columns (e.g. one colum per character, see the question marks in the table below) ....
I'm new here, google helped me to find this place. Hope someone here can help me a bit on my excel spreadsheet. I have one list of numbers and it need to be sorted under Perm condition so the list become shorter. The function should go through the listed number and output new list after sorting it. I have attached my excel here.
I have found this very challenging, and have really confused my self on how to systematically approach this. I have the user enter the value in the black highlight boxes, some subtraction produces a base value, the user may also enter the tolerance of the working value (base value), effectivlly giving rise to a small range to generate the permutations from.
What I would like to do then is find all permutations of the inventory (letters in the sheet) with their corresponding values right above them to the small range determined via the user (working value and tolerance). There are also quantity limits for each item. There four basic rules that need to be adhered to:
1) Permutation can't have both S and PP, so one or the other 2) Sum of H and HN must be greater or equal to sum of S and PP 3) H or HN or both must be present, so their sum cannot be zero 4) If HN is less than or equal to 2, and H is greater than 2, then NA and NG must equal 0.
I have columns with sort filters, columns with tables, unformatted cells and frozen panes. When sorting one column how do I make all other columns sort simultaneously with it?
I am attaching a sample excel workbook for reference. I have a set of coded data in numbers in ColumnA, and want to replace them with actual names which are in Column G.
As explained before, I set up columns such that all template number codes are in Column F and names in Column G. The actual raw data in Column A.
However the macro is giving me wrong replacements i.e. if the coded number was 21, its replacement is name2name1 not name 21, I hope you understand what I am saying.
It will save me bucket loads of time as I have a multiple similar columns. I am a novice in macros so I am not sure how to find full numbers (21) and replace with the specific name.

I have folder with 427 workbooks in, named TAB001.... TAB427.
These workbooks contain listed tables out of a bespoke apllication. Each workbook only holds one worksheet (which is named TAB001, etc corrsespoonding to the workbook name).
Each worksheet holds in cell A1 the name of the table
I want to rename each workbook to whatever is in cell A1. SO TAB001.xls becomes, say, Property.xls, and so on for all 427 workbooks.
I envisage a new workbook holdinga macro to do this?

But I've noticed that on import run, the macro mixing the ascending order of the files. An example: Inside my_folder I have 3 csv files: advertise.csv adwords.csv adwords keyword tool.csv
When the macro runs, it takes advertise.csv as the 1st. (Thats Ok) then adwords keyword tool.csv data before thaking adwords.csv
(I have over 100 files to import, so you can imagine the mess I'm facing..)

I need to create about 200 copies of this exact sheet and its formatting etc, is there anyway you can bulk copy a worksheet or does this need to be done individually?
How do I copy 100 email addresses at the top of an email and post them in an Excell spreadsheet where each email address is in one cell i.e. 100 cells?
I am trying to compare deductions from two different pay periods. I have the Data from check 1 & check 2 on different worksheets, in no order, and would like the data to auto populate on a third worksheet into a side-by-side comparison of the data. The problem comes when there is a deduction missed or a new deduction that only shows up on one of the two checks. I am having to manually insert lines to make my side-by-side comparison match. Is there a macro or something that can pull the data from these two soures and display them in a side-by-side comparison even if there is no match?
Now what I want to be able to do is when I add a new row to worksheet 1, in this case row 3, then the references in worksheet 2 either to automatically (or manually do it in one simple go) increase by one and now refer to the new row. So the references now become =A3, =B3, =C3 etc.
I have a series of files in *.ew7 format (i know its a random program)
I have some code which i can run which will simply open the relevant file and save it as xls.
The files are saved in multiple folders in format "yymm" eg: 0910 - oct 09.
inside each folder there is a ew7 file for each day in rthe format: "01ddmmyy" eg 01271009 = 27th oct 2009.
I have folders going back as far as may 2002 (in folder 0205) and i need a way to convert these all into xls format and save them in the same location.
I have a column of words in Column A and I want to replace all the times that these words appear in the rest of the excel sheet with the words in Column B. If someone has already answered a similar problem link me to the thread because I can't find anything.
I'm looking for a macro to remove all words (in a single word per cell format) in a range (approx 100 columns & 7000 rows), except for a list of 100 words.
I've been using conventional method to do this and it's time consuming. I would like to total up 2 column. A multiply B to be exact. Below are some examples:
Table 1 - Before totaling up:

Table 2 - After totaling up:

I need to have the sum of the "Quantity" multiply "Product". Or in short A x B. And the end result need to have the number and "x" sign removed while keeping on the the products names. (2 x ) Take note it's "number" space "symbol" space.
I am trying to find certain words in a column and delete the word and characters following. For example, Say I have a column of info as seen below. This is a test of me. I am just experimenting with this stuff. Deleted (6/15/01) Let me know what you think. I want to find all the "Priviledge1 (01/05/06)" and replace with nothing. Please note, the date will change with each record, so I need to figure out how to tell Excel to find "Priviledge1", delete it and the date behind it. So I want to delete "Priviledge1" and the next 11 characters including the space.
On to the topic, I have all the US and Canadian states abbreviated (CO = Colorado, etc.) and was wondering if there is a way to make all of them convert to their respective names in one fell swoop instead of writing it in for each one, one at a time. Something along the lines where I can make, CO = Colorado, TX = Texas and then hit enter and all of the abbreviations would convert. Some kind of command.
I want to sort on number of words, i.e. if a cell contains 1 or 2 words etc, with the cells containing 1 word coming first then cells containing 2 words. Also, if possible, first the cells with fewer characters.
I have tried Sumproduct and Countif and can not get a proper count of rows that contain specific words in multiple columns. I have attached an example spreadsheet where I am looking for a result of 7 rows that contain 1 to 4 specific words within phrases. The example looks for the words: "virus", "spyware", "malware" & "adaware", and ignores any other words like "aware" or "ware".
