I have several items that I would like to combine, lets call them characters A, B, C, D, E
Each character is situated in a different column, next to each other. Below, I would like to create a list of all possible combinations of these characters. The sequence is not important and each row should contain a unique combination of characters.
I have counted 31 combinations for the ABCDE set, namely
1 for ABCDE
5 for A, B, C, D, E each
5 for choosing 5 unique sets of four from a set of five (5!/(4!*(5-4)!)
10 for choosing 10 unique sets of three from a set of five (5!/(3!*(5-3)!)
10 for choosing 10 unique sets of two from a set of five (5!/(2!*(5-2)!)
To complicate matters, I have several other character strings where I would like a list of combinations. For example A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H 9 (a longer set).
By the way, each combination should be spread accross several columns (e.g. one colum per character, see the question marks in the table below) ....
I have been asked if I can create a pseudo Lottery/Bingo card of 7 images with no repeat cards. The best i can tell is that I need to create a Permutation of the numbers 1 - 7. There should be 5040 combinations of unique possible cards. My problem being I don't know how to create this Permutation in Excel.
I am trying to create a list of permutations in a column for example I need a list of numbers 1-20 with no numbers repeating. This is causing my head to hurt and I have been working on this problem for some time.

I have one list of numbers and it need to be sorted under Perm condition so the list become shorter. The function should go through the listed number and output new list after sorting it. This is for an online sports management game I play. Basically I have calculated each players skills in each position, and I need to find the best combination of the players on the field to give me the best team.
I have a table as below, and I need to find a solution that gives me what the best combination will be....
Can this be done in Excel? Using the digits 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 create all the permutations/combinations with limits on some of the digits. The digits 0,7,8,9 can only be used a max of 3 times in any one permutation/combination, digits 2,3,4,5,6 can only be used 4 time in any one permutaion/combination, producing a 5-digit string. Example of expected results. 0 1 0 2 7
i have read through all threads about permutation, and also a few others. I if I were an Excel Pro I would probably have been able to come up with a solution to my problem based on all the suggestions made, but unfortunately it is (still) all a bit too complex for me.
The problem:
I have between 2 and 5 lists of words, each list in one column:
Column A
red green yellow black blue green pink
Column B
shirt jumper blouse coat t-shirt skirt
Column C
for women for men for girls extra large for boys one size fits all
I have found this very challenging, and have really confused my self on how to systematically approach this. I have the user enter the value in the black highlight boxes, some subtraction produces a base value, the user may also enter the tolerance of the working value (base value), effectivlly giving rise to a small range to generate the permutations from.
What I would like to do then is find all permutations of the inventory (letters in the sheet) with their corresponding values right above them to the small range determined via the user (working value and tolerance). There are also quantity limits for each item. There four basic rules that need to be adhered to:
1) Permutation can't have both S and PP, so one or the other 2) Sum of H and HN must be greater or equal to sum of S and PP 3) H or HN or both must be present, so their sum cannot be zero 4) If HN is less than or equal to 2, and H is greater than 2, then NA and NG must equal 0.
i have many excel workbooks in a folder i want a macro that will get the names of all the files and make the file names so extracted as a hyperlink to open the files.
I'm trying to create a staff rota which will populate a rota randomly when prompted - I have been trying to find some way of connecting the random lists and the staff names, though this has proved difficult (to say the least!). How best to proceed? I'm also fully aware of the possibility that my present design will also double book people (place then on reception and telephone duty simultaneously).
I've searched the forum and believe this thread to be the closest to what im looking for, but its doesnt completely apply: matrix to list conversion. I have an attachment to support my questions (see attached). I have a matrix of words (strings) that contain repeating and non-repeating contents. The matrix also has spaces which are of no value. Essentially, the VBA needs to ' analyze' this matrix and create a consolidated frequency list (as shown in the file).
The matrices are HUGE and therefore some of the clumsy VBA i am using is turning out to be a bit inefficient. The file also contains formulas and such that I cannot use AutoFilter nor can I use Insert or Delete rows...so the VBA shouldnt use those either.
The attached file (a copy of my main one) has a list of our engineers, and what stock they carry. The stock parts are the 64, 65, 66... numbers.
I need to create a list from this (as underneath the main table), for all instances where there is a 'Y' in the columns next to each engineer. So if an engineer has 3x pieces of stock, they need to appear in the list 3x times. If they have 1x piece of stock, they appear in the list once.
I've attached a spreadsheet showing the effect I'm trying to achieve. A list (which changes weekly) contains employee details and length of service. Based on the length of service I need to build a new list grouping the employees based on the service length.
1) The first column needs to be search to match a text string.
2) If the text string matchs, I need excel to evaluate the number in the second column and find the MIN value of all numbers associated with the text string.
So:

When searching for "Joe", the function would return 10. When searching for "Jim" the function would return 8. For "Rob", it would return "25".
I need to create a mailing list for people located in a specific area from a master list.
The address data is not in great shape so I need to check address field 2 and address field 3 in the list to see if the suburb in the location tab appears in either of the two fields.
Desired result appears in column F of the List tab of the attached spreadsheet.

What I want to do is take the entire list and create a distinct list that I can use in a named range then use a validation list to have a drop down within a different tab.
I need to create a 'sub' list from a drop down list.
I have 8 categories in a drop down list in column A, but i need column B to also have a drop down list of sub categories depending on what category is selected in column A.
And once column B is populated, i need column C to auto populate with a value. All data is stored on the spreadsheet.
I have a database output file where one of the columns contains managers names, often more than once. I want to apply an autofilter on manager name and then copy the result to another sheet or sheets. My criteria for the autofilter is a variable pointing to a list of names that at present I maintain by hand; a for-each-next loop then cycles through the names.
What I would like to do, before running the autofilter code, is to create the list of names via code. This would then automatically pickup names that are missing.
The code I have so far is below:

I do not know how to create a drop down list to ensure the user inputs only the values from that list. Once I figure this out I would love to add a drop down calender for a cell as well.
is it possible to have an dynamic list, so that when I add in a new entry in to the input column, the output column will automatically change to the same thing. Also then my dropdown will realise a new entry has been inputted (uses the output list) and the list will update to show this.
I have a list of pairs of 406 pairs of currencies like the list below and I need to create a tab for each one of them and will take ages to do it manually, I am looking for a macro that can do it.
I have a list with several stocks tickers and the respective quantities and prices on three columns: example below. I wanted a formula to list all different occurrences of each stock only once. Later on I would consolidate all trades.

I have a list of unsorted codes in A1:A30. There are a total of only 5 unique codes represented, but most of the codes occur several times.
I'd like to produce a summary list in A35:A40 of each of the 5 codes represented in the range above.
Is there a formula that can be copied and pasted into A35:A40 that will search A1:A30 and return one of each code, or can this only be done using a macro?
I am trying to compile a list from a spreadsheet using one specific criteria but taking information from other columns on that sheet on rows where the criteria is met. Below is an example which will hopefully explain better what I am trying to do:
I want to create a list of all those rows where "Good" is in column E. But I only want to include the data from columns A,C and D in the list for the rows that meet the criteria. I have probably made this as clear as mud.
I have a list of references and I need to pull from a database. The database contains more than one row with my reference, so I try doing something like this:
