I need to compare two colums by number decription for example m344 in one column and fsh344-1 in another. All I want to match is 344. In column a I want to indcate the match by placing an X by each match. View my attachment for reference. I don't know if it makes a difference but the columns are centered in my original spreadsheet.

The value stands for the Periodnumber and a Year so P1'08 stands for period 1 in the year 2008.
In cell H2 I want the following:
If value in cell H1 is the same as B2 or C2 or is in between these periods then the value in H2 should be the value of cell D2. If not the H2 should be empty.
I have a text file with rows and columns of numbers ranging from 1-4 digits that I'd like to import/copy into Excel with each number being in its own cell. But whenever I copy/try to import, Excel splits all of the 3-4 digit numbers up into single digit numbers. The text file has 10,000+ columns (each number occupies two columns so I have half of that amount in numbers) and 300+ lines.
Is the file simply too large for Excel to handle or is there a way I can do this?
In the ID column of the attached excel file whenever I convert the numbers stored as text to numbers it results in a weird transformation.
e.g. an ID of 480610141001 becomes 4.8061E+11. When I do the same process in the name column, which has similar numbers, it will give the correct result following the same process.
I receive a large text file each month from a vendor, This file contains account numbers, account descriptions and costs associated with the previous months period. There are 5 separate business units included in this report. I am looking for a way to translate the account numbers pprovided by the vendor to fit with in the account numbers we use. A Vlookup will work by creating a Map that translates their numbers to match ours, but this would need to be copied in monthly and as there are 15k rows or more it will likely take a while to process. I am wondering if others have attempted this and have advise as to what works best.
My plan was to create an Excel file that reflects the account numbers provided with our account numbers and then use a VLookup to match the data received with this master file as it were. ( So I would have a file called AccountMap which contains 4 columns, Cols A & B is the info provided by the vendor and Cols C & D are our codes and descriptions ). Then when the data arrives I would enter my vLookup and go from there.
Presently the steps are:
Open Vendor Text File in Excel
Copy a Business Unit and related Data to new WorkSheet
Insert Vlookup to map the vendor accounts to our accounting system format
Rearrange the data to meet our import requirements
Export the modified range as a Text file
Import into Accounting system

I need to clean out unnecessary data from a file, (see attached text file), I'm not sure how to go about this in excel. basically every file starts with 9 cells that needs to be deleted, two cells of real data then one with garbage that needs to be deleted, it goes like that for 40 cells, then again 10 cells of garbage that needs to be deleted, then 40 of real data and goes like that up to 3000 lines, I know it sounds confusing but if you take a look at attached file, at the end I need to have
all cells full of data
I am currently working on sheet that i need to have print out user names and random passwords for as many people that entered on the sheet to a text file for email. I am running into a few issues.
1. When i try to print to a .txt file of the text from column G on sheet 'Review and Generate', all the text appears on one line. I have been trying to use the Char(10) to create line spaces, but that has not worked out for me. How do i get excel to export text from a cell to a .txt file with correct line spaces?
2. I have a random password function running on column F, however i am trying to get it only produce one result and not keep calculating random values. How do i have the cell calculate only once?
I have an existing spreadsheet with a column of strings (actually VIN numbers). These numbers correllate to a bunch of text files, that can exist in one of three folders (UsernameDesktop1, 2, or 3) on my desktop. What I need the macro to do is:
1) get the filename from A2 (A1 is a heading row)
2) Find the appropriate text file in one of the three folders
3) Put the folder name into I2
4) Scan the text file for some strings, and copy some data that follows those strings into J2:O2 (I can handle programming this)
5) Close the text file
6) repeat above for the remainder of filenames (about 1800 files)
Got a slight problem; I am making a "worker-plan", where you should be able to write a name on one file and have it updated (removed) from the equivalent columns on another file automatically. Here's an example with two separate projects:

You can see here how I intended it to work. When one worker is moved from Project 1 to Project 2, that worker should also be removed from those weeks in Project 1. The previous worker from Project 2 should also be removed from those weeks (in Project 2).
Are there any formulas that can make this work automatically? All week numbers will belong to the same columns in all files.
Edit: There are 30 files that should be syncronized, not just two.. I could also gather all files into one file with sheets, instead of having seperate files.
I have two large ranges of numbers stored as text.
I would like to compare first element from first one to each of the second, make a shortlist, and then further analyze the data on shortlist by some additional criteria.
After that the result is written to some place and the cycle continues with the second element from first range etc
Question:
Is it possible (in VBA) to create temporary arrays(baskets) where the fist set of data is analyzed and then after obtaining the result, array(basket) would be emptied and new sets of data is loaded and the cycle goes again?
how the code would look?
how to Chk the text string in particular cell, compare it with a super set column and get the full from of the text string from another corresponsing column and the output will be corresponsing full form of the chked text string?

I have a dataset of shifts and want to compare each shift that needs to be filled to a list of requests for time off (vacation, etc).
For one cell the code is: =IF(ISERROR(SEARCH(B1, A1), 0,1)
Where A1 is the column of requests in comma delimited forme (ie: "AB,CD,EF").
Where B1 is the column containing the person assigned to shift 1 (ie: "AB")
In this case, would return a "1" as no error was returned, as AB was found in the list. Here "1" would represent a schedule conflict.
Without creating many cells for each shift- there are 20 shifts- can I create an array or string together this type of "SEARCH" function?
I have two columns that each contain about 100 serial numbers. Most of the serial numbers shoud be in both columns. How to I determine if there is a serial number that is only in one of the columns and not in the other?

I have two numerical columns of different length. One presents the signal and another one the background. Most of the background numbers are found in the signal column but they are not exactly the same and not located in the same rows. The numerical values are the same within some tolerance that I can specify. What I am trying to do it to remove all the background values from the signal column.

I would like the IF statement to only look to the first decimal place, rather than the entire number. In the first example, all columns equal. In the second example all columns equal only to the first decimal place. In either case, all 3 numbers would be equal when rounded down to one decimal place.

I have declared x as "Long", but still when it does the comparison it seems to round x up to the nearest whole number for the second comparison ( x > 52 ).

I have a worksheet with property numbers in colum A and first names in column B. Another worksheet has property numbers in A, first names in B, and last names in C (different order, all mixed up)
I want to put a formula in the first worksheet that will compare the property numbers and when it finds a match put the last name from the second worksheet into the first. Does that make any sense? I have tried vlookup but i'm obviously doing something wrong. example below....

I have a macro which imports data from a mainframe dump text file and performs 'Text to Columns' on the imported data so that formula in the spreadsheet can act on the data. The code works perfectly well when I use it, but if a different user logs on and performs exactly the same mainframe dump and import macro the Text to Columns action splits the raw data in a different way and the result is that the split renders the formulae useless.
I've experimented a little and for some reason it appears that the 'Field Info' parameters which are produced when the Text to Columns function is recorded in a macro differ between users even though the raw data is exactly the same.
