Conditional Format - Compare To An Adjacent Column Of Numbers
Sep 15, 2009
I have a column of numbers (column A) which I'd like to compare to an adjacent column of numbers (column B) and, by row, determine if the number is larger.
If it is, I'd like to place a different colour on the cell. What is the formula I need to use to accomplish this?
Ex:
Col A Col B
30,000 5,000 - A is larger than B, therefore A is formatted RED
20,000 20,000 - A is the same as B, therefore no format applied
10,000 15,000 - A is less than B, therefore A is formatted GREEN
Col A - budget items (description) Col B - budget dollars Col C - actual dollars Row 10 - summation Cols B and C
When the budget is prepared the actual dollars in Col C are equal to the budget dollars for all items. For instance the formula =b2 is placed in cell C2. As time passes the user records actual dollars in Col C for each item by entering the actual amount directly into the cell. Actual dollars do not become known all at the same time, so that Col C will contain a mixture of formulas and entered numbers.
How can I highlight the cells in Col C that have entered numbers rather than formulas.
I need to run a loop through a column of values (attachment col B) and when it finds a "J" it will apply conditional formatting to a row of 4 cells directly adjacent. The attachment is a theoretical before & after.
Is it possible to delete a column of numbers then replace those numbers from adjacent columns and the adjacent columns are then filled with the numbers adjacent to them
I am writing a macro that will format my table automatically. My table will start with 3 columns all containing data on a 1 to 1 relationship (I.e. there are no empty cells until the end of the file). Initially these are columns "A", "B", and "C" but they shift to columns "B", "C", and "D" during execution of this macro. However, my macro formats the table with seven addtional column headings which will eventually contain data though I need to format them prior to populating them. I know my column range is always going to be ("A:J") but my row range will vary on a weekly basis. That being the case, I need to know how to format the cells in these empty columns up to the number of rows containing data in the existing populated columns. For exapmle I would like the macro to format the table in the following way:
1. Insert new column "A" preserving the data in the existing column "A" shifting it to cloumn "B" and set Cell "A1"'s value = "#" --> I have already coded this portion.
2. Set Cell "A2"'s value = 1 --> I have already coded this portion.
3. Set Cells ("A1:J1")'s values = to desried column header title modifying the three pre-existing column headers while aligning the data to center --> I have already coded this portion.
4. Set all column headers to bold 10pt font and shade the headers row ("A1:J1")--> I have already coded this portion.
5. Set pre defined column widths for columns "A:J". --> I have already coded this portion.............
I'm trying to highlight cells a certain color based on the value of the cell 1 column to the left. How would I be able to do this in conditional formatting?
Example) Highlight the cells in "Visit 2" column if it is greater than the "Projected Visit 2" column.
I can nothing about conditional formating but i need a conditional formular that check if 2 column(or more) in an row have the value grater then 0 will be marked, lets say red.
Code: A B C D row2 0 0 0 8 row3 2 2 0 0 row4 0 2 3 3 row5 0 0 2 0 row 3 column a,b will be mark red and row 4 column b,c,d will ba mark red.
One has numbers the other has "YES" or is blank. I want a formula to look at the second column and where there is a "Yes" then count the number in the same row in the first column.
I need to check a range of cells for 2 different values. If either value is present, I need to shade a cell (outside the original range) red. If neither value is present I need to shade the cell yellow. Can this be accomplished with conditional formatting?
I have the following code. I am trying to conditional format a row based on the value of the A column of the row.I have a total of 3 rows. I have to use VBA because in time I may have 4 rows of data. The problem is I after the first do while loop the code stops and the code doesn't proceed to format row 2.
Is it possible to format a row of cells (B7:KX7) depending on the value in column (G7:G1000) changing?
For example column G might have the following value entered into them.
A A A B B B C C C
So all the rows containing the letter A would be formatted one colour, then it would notice it changed to B and format all the rows with the letter B in, then C etc... The letters would always appear in blocks of 10 or more (representing students in a group) so it wouldn't go A,B,A,B,C,D,E
I am not bothered about the letter being tied to a certain colour, it just needs to change when the letter changes. I'd have no more than 10 different variables in this column, meaning no more than 10 different colours to format. Formatting would be black text with different coloured backgrounds.
conditional formatting in Excel. I have two columns with pertinent information. I need to know the following and format accordingly:
1. Is the number in column A positive or negative? 2. Is the number in column B less than 0.05 or 0.10?
I would then like Column C to just be highlighted a certain color depending on the combination... there are 5 possible combinations and I would like the cells to be formatted so that:
1. Positive and less than 0.05 - Bright yellow 2. Positive and less than 0.10 - Pale yellow 3. Negative and less than 0.05 - Bright green 4. Negative and less than 0.10 - Pale green 5. This "combo" just means the criteria wasn't meant... which is possible b/c sometimes Column A may have text instead of a number of b/c the number in column B is not less than 0.10. If either of these is true, I want the cell to remain blank.
I want to format 3 columns in excel depending on certain value from another column. By example: I have the columns A B C completed with some text. On the column D it will be the numbers 0 or 1. If the number is 0 the background color from A,B,C columns shall be Green, if the number is 1 the color shall be red.
I have tried in conditional formatting with the formula =$D$1=0 but the color of the columns are changing only depending on the value from cell D1. I don't know what is the correct formula. For column A1 I want to check the value from D1, A2 - D2, A3 - D3,...,An - Dn.
I have a goal set for the year. With conditional formatting, each month will be set to either red or yellow based on where it stands in relation to the goal. I would also like to show an increase or decrease in productivity for each month. I tried to use conditional formatting with the formula:
=IF(C2=D2, "", IF(C2<D2,"↗","↘")).
The formula works on its own without the conditional formatting so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I've attached a sample with all the conditional formatting and formulas in place.
I need to make an entire column formatless if the cell in row 3 contains no text. I want the whole column to just appear like a normal formatless column, but if there is text in the row 3 cell, I want it to be the way I have it formatted right now.
I have a price list from a friend. The price list has to have every other row shaded. This part is no problem with the conditional format command.
The real trick, at least to me, is the background shade of the row is based on the first two letters in the left most column.
For instance:
Column A
CPST4 CPST5 FLADS3EC FLADS2EC FIL4
CP rows would alternate with one color while FL rows would alternate with a different color and FI rows would alternate with another different color. All other rows would have no shading.
MacOffice Excel 08 is used so no VB code can be used.
I want to have Excel highlight one or two numbers/cells in one column based on the value in another cell. I am attempting to do this using Conditional Formatting.
For example, if X1 is BETWEEN A2 and A3, I want to highlight A2 AND A3. I have used various AND and IF functions to achieve this goal.
Also, if X1 is EQUAL to A2, I want A2 to be highlighted. This is easy to do with a simple formula.
But my problem is this: if X1 is equal to A2, I want ONLY A2 highlighted. If X1 is between A2 and A3, I want BOTH A2 and A3 highlighted. I cannot figure out how to achieve both. For example, when X1 = A3, A2 AND A3 are being highlighted, instead of just A3. I would prefer to do this without a macro, if possible. Can this be done?
Example formulas I have tried which easily achieve the highlighting of two cells when the value is between them:
It appears that the +IF, etc. functions are not doing anything.
This is more complicated by the fact that the value of, in the above example, I35 is based on a value from another sheet (I used a function to transfer a value from one sheet to I35 in the other sheet). As data are entered on Sheet1, the value in I35 in Sheet2 changes.
I have a column of numbers and want to make sure everything has been entered correctly from our scanning software. Basically, I want to automatically highlight any cell that has any letter in it (e.g. z12o2 instead of 21202 or R705 instead of 5705), ignoring any cells that contain only numbers. I haven't had any luck using conditions based on formulas like =ISTEXT.
I have two sets of data from columns A:N (O is blank) & P:AC. Column A & P are account numbers. I want to compare columns A & P for exact matches, there will never be any duplicates in either of these columns by themselves. If there is a match I would like that entire row to align, if there is no match I would like a row to be inserted. I have attached a copy of a worksheet of what I am looking to have done.
I am new to programming in excel but am looking to make a VBA that allows me to see if a value entered exists in a second spread sheet. If it does then write a comment next to it. If not then write a different comment.
This is what my spread sheet currently looks like:
Sheet1 contains all the important information: A B C D E F
Load PO Delivery Email Item ShipCon
1 3456 6543 Y 5219
5129
2 2345 5432 Y 1234
4321
Sheet2 contains the items that contain a shipping condition. There are two shipping conditions Fragile and non-Fragile. The list is of Fragile items.
Item
5219
1234
I am looking for a way to have it set up that when i enter an item number in sheet in 1 it searches in sheet 2 to see if it is fragile, if it is then returns, in sheet 1 column F next to that specific item 'Fragile'. If it doesn't find it in the list returns 'non-fragile'.
I have another problem with this damn address file. Column H and I have data in them that is often mixed. As shown below, I have used A and B below, but its normaly in Column H and I. I would be greatul if some could write a macro to split the data into the two columns.
Rows 2-8 is what Im presented with. I would like them to look like 11-17
Note that the number in row 8 does not match, so is left for manual intervention....
I have built a macro that tests to see if a date in a range is before the Period Start Date, and if it is, then the labor rate in that same row (3 Columns Over) should be escalated by the appropriate AWI. My code below works, but I am wondering if there is a better way than using offset(0,3) to prevent a code breakdown if columns are inserted between the Date and Rate columns. The date range is names "DATES" and the rate column in names "RATES"
Sub CountTheCells() Dim cell As Excel.Range Dim i As Integer For Each cell In Sheet2.Range("DATES") If cell.Value < Sheet2.Range("POPS") Then i = i + 1 End If Next MsgBox ("You have " & i & " Rates that will be escalated b4 the POP Begins") yesno = MsgBox("Would you like to Escalate the Dates and Rates?", vbYesNo) If yesno = vbNo Then MsgBox ("Not Done") Else..........................
I need to compare two colums by number decription for example m344 in one column and fsh344-1 in another. All I want to match is 344. In column a I want to indcate the match by placing an X by each match. View my attachment for reference. I don't know if it makes a difference but the columns are centered in my original spreadsheet.
How would I make cells in column A to C be highlighted yellow, of which is 0.02 in value be higher than in compared with the adjacent cell in column D ? It is easy to use condition format function to setup the conditions in 1 row. The problem is there are thousands rows in the sheet(of which represents an individual file by each row), and need to have the conditioning format applied on each row independently. How can it be done w/o the need to have format painter applied line by line, of which is a very time consuming.
