Conditional Formatting Based On 5 Named Ranges
Jan 6, 2010
i edited this thread becuase I realized why I was getting the wrong results, however, I am completely clueless on how I need to accomplish the task below.
I need to apply formatting based on five named ranges on another sheet. if the values in cell F1:F1000 appears in the named range "datestore" and the corresponding value in range h2:h1000 appears any of the named ranges "date1" through "date5" I would like it to fill the cell yellow.

Any way write a conditional format formula to shade a cell based on two ranges.
Here is what I need:
cell b4 should be colored in if n4:xfd4 = today's date AND n3:xfd3 = "Time Off". The part I am having trouble with is that it should only shade if today and time off are in the same column.
Here is an example:
This one should shade B4(note: Today is 08/13/2013):
time off
late
08/13/2013
08/10/2013
This one should not:
late
time off
08/13/2013
08/10/2013
This is what I came up with so far, but it shades the cell if either show up in the entire range:
=AND(MATCH($G$1,$n$4:$XFD$4),MATCH($H$1,$n$3:$XFD$3),1)
Note: g1 contains =today() and h1 = "Time off"
So formula is wrong.

I need to have a conditional format that will adjust based on percentage ranges.
1% to 25% would be shaded red
26% to 50% would be shaded Orange
51% to 100% would be shaded Green
I was hoping to reference another cell and have the formatted cell reflect the conditional format. I dont think that's possible, so I can include a percentage in another cell and have that highlighted.

I have a sheet called Quote Summary and a sheet called AssemblyBoms.
In the Bom sheet, I have a named range for QtyPer and a named range for unit price because these ranges are dynamic.
On the quote summary sheet, I want to format the cell (A9 and eventually A9 to A28 and so on), which contains a formula right now that only references a tag and does some equivalence checking
(=IF(AND(QSA>0,QSA=qty1a),assembly1,"")),
to have a yellow background if QtyPer>0 but unit price = "" or 0. I know the formulas for this, but it is not formatting anything. Attached workbook below.
QUOTETEMPLATEMACROTEST.xlsm
Conditional Formula for true:
="AND(qtyper1 > 0, unita1 = "")"
I typed it in without the = or "", but the formatting added those in for me.
I typed a number in the qtyper1 range and left the unita1 range blank to test it and no formatting has occurred.

I have a spreadsheet with several worksheets in it. The main sheet contains a calendar view that is fed from a separate sheet with holiday date ranges. This aspect works well and displays correctly in the main calendar view.
I am now adding in additional conditional formatting to each cell. As a first example i want the calendar to display bank holiday days by colouring the cell (lets say black). I am using conditional formatting only and have used the following formula;
IF(C6=Holidays,1,0)
Holidays is a named range, separate sheet (A2:A13).
C6 is the date value field (runs C6 through AN6 - perpetual calendar)
It evaluates the cell (i can see, TRUE,FALSE,FALSE,FALSE,...) and will only shade the cell if the date value field is equal to the first date in the Holidays named range. if this is not the case (FALSE,TRUE,FALSE,FALSE,...) the field value is set to "0".
how i can change this, entered as conditional format formula, to set the cell to "1" if any are evaluated as TRUE regardless of where they come in the name named range.
I want to additionally add in, from separate worksheets in the same workbook, face to face meetings and conference calls. I have assumed that i will use the same method to do this as Bank Holidays.

I am trying to apply conditional formatting to the range K60:R82 based on their corresponding cell in the range K87:R109 (the arrays have the same size). If each cell in the first range is greater than their corresponding cell in the 2nd range, then the cell in the first range should be formatted with pink fill and red text.

In Excel 2007, is there a way to copy a conditional format from one cell to a range of cells. My conditional format is comparing the value of one cell say A1 to B1, and formatting the cell if the value is different. How do I copy this format to also compare A2 to B2, and C2 to D2 etc.

I have one simple (but large table). It has dates across the top (formatted in hh format). I would like the associated table to format according to the day and also to format differently when there is a public holiday. So I have built a table with the holidays and named the relevant cells as "Holiday_Valid".
I have the following formula in the conditional formatting;
[Code]....
Where D11 has the current day in question and Holiday_Valid is a list of public holidays. Since there is a cell for each hour of each day I am using "int()".
There is a second conditional format to format Sundays differently as below;
[Code] .....
My problem is that these both work well....but then after a few minutes the whole sheet crashes with those dreaded "Trying to recover your data" and "Excel will restart" etc.
I have removed references to named ranges and so far - so good....but this means putting the validation table in the same sheet as the main table. In the past I have been able to use named ranges (albeit not in such convoluted formulae), but now it seems that it is not working any longer.
When I open the recovered sheet, all the conditional formatting has been removed and the message from the repairs is that there was some invalid conditional formatting.
Extensive web searches did show some issues with conditional formatting using names ranges....especially with frozen panes....which I need use with a sheet this big.

I need a formula that will give me a persons name that is stored in Column B based on the highest value within 5 named ranges. Each named range is a selection of every other cell in individual columns i.e. named range junior1 is cells in column E, named range junior2 is cells within column H and so on.
I've attached the worksheet as it as present.Sample Running Scores 3.xlsx
Cell Y3 shows the highest individual score shot (not handicap score) from columns E,H,K,N,Q (or more accurately the named ranges Junior1, Junior2, Junior3, Junior4, Junior5 within these columns). Each of these columns represents a different round in each league, in this case a Junior National League. I now need Y4 to show me the name of the person that shot the highest individual score, in this case Person 21.
I know I need to use a combination of Index & Max in some way but I can't work out what or how.

I have just started diving into the vast world of dynamic ranges and it's a bit overwelming. I have a dB of sorts that a listbox in a userform fills off of. The dB will be driven by column A and B. Column B are names that are displayed in the listbox. Column A is the class that these names belong to (3 classes). I need to develop dynamically named ranges of Column B based off of Column A. In other words, I need a dynamically named range for all of class1, class2, and class3 in column A to display column B in the listbox on the userform. I have attached an example to clarify the example.

I have an Excel 2007 Workbook which is refreshed by a Web Query. I have dynamic named range defined as "Manager" which I've confirmed is correctly identified. This range includes only one column and is formatted as text.
When I try to reference this range in my conditional formatting "refers to" formula, all cells are recognized as blank even though the range clearly contains many cells that are not. For example, there are 90 records containing the initials "PD". If I use the formula =Manager="PD" in my conditional formatting, nothing changes. If I change it to =Manager="" then ALL records are formatted, including those that are not blank.
Stranger still, if I enter the formula =COUNTIF(Manager,"PD") into and empty cell in my worksheet those 90 records are counted correctly. Which leads me to believe it isn't about the data. Conversely, =COUNTIF(Manager,"") returns the correct count of only cells that are, in fact, blank.
I've tried using the OFFSET formula defining my range in place of the name itself for my conditional format formula to no avail.

I need a macro that can set up some named ranges using the text in the header row and the sheet name. The header row will always be in row one, but the number of columns will be dynamic. The amount of rows in the range will need to be dynamic also. To clarify, every used cell stating in row 2 in a column will be the named range with the sheetname+text in row one of the column the actual name.

I am looking for a solution to dynamically create named ranges according to the contents of cells in a particular column. The following code works for 1 word names, but in many cases the title cell contains numerous words separated by spaces. Is there a way I can adapt this code so that it will name the ranges with the spaces removed? For example, where cell C2 contains the narrative 'Sales Ledger Control', I would want the range name 'SalesLedgerControl'.
Range("R2:Z2").Name = Range("C2")
The named ranges are referred to in numerous other worksheets, where selecting a particular narrative from a listbox creates a dependant drop-down in the adjacent cell (eg if Sales Ledger Control is selected, the dependant list contains names of customers). FYI, the data validation in the other worksheets ignores the spaces in the range names, ie: =INDIRECT(SUBSTITUTE(G2," ",""))
It would not take me long to name the ranges manually, but a macro is preferable because the narratives in the title cells will often change and the range names will obvioulsy also therefore change.

However I am trying to use same macro in the another file and the problem I am facing is there a lot more named ranges and I want to run the macro for only selected NAMED RANGE. In this case 2 Named Range / 24 Named range.
What part of code do I need to change and to what to make it work for just 2 named ranges ?

I had an idea that I could use the level of indent in the first column to provide the name for the range. The easiest way to explain is with the example spreadsheet I have attached
Cells C5:C10 show how the naming convention should look like, basically Indent Level 0 returns a prefix (Sheet_Name_Prefix) and its corresponding row entry in Column A. Level 1 should return the last Level 0 name and its corresponding row entry in Column A.
I had a go at the code and it works for Level 0 but I can't get it to put to Level 1.
Sub Test()
'Dimension Variables
Dim RowTitleEntries As Integer
Dim NameLoop As Integer
Dim IndentLevel As Integer
'Set the value of RowTitleEntries
RowTitleEntries = 6

Macro that could look at a row and take the values of two cells, combine them and then create a range name for a third cell in the row.
For example; for row 5420, in column C there is the word Florida, in column D there is the number 6235, and in column F there is a sentence or two. Is there a way to automatically create a named range for the cell of column F that would be named FLORIDA6235? And if so, can the macro do this for every row even if the word and/or the number changes.
I have roughly 28,000 rows and nine columns that I am working with. That's why I was wondering if there was a way to automate this. There are 10 states and I don't know how many different numbers attached to the states, however there are many state and number combinations that repeat, so there would be several rows with Florida in column C, 6235 in column D but a different description in column F.

i can't seem to figure this one out.
I attached a file showing how i am trying to format data (the second tab).
The big issue is the counting to format. (the formatting itself is obviously easy.)
The number of columns is not always standard so i need to count for it.
the number of rows in each "room number" is also not always standard, which means i also need to count for those.
If anyone has had experience trying to do something like this i would appreciate the help.
i know it is possible because i had one that someone had given me years ago, unfortunately i lost it in a hard drive failure...also years ago.
if it isn't obvious what i am trying to do, let me know and i will try to be clearer.

Merge two columns into one list in excel
I would like to combine List1 and List2 into a 3rd named range called List3. I was wondering if this were possible without using any additional cells/columns (i.e. I don't want to use Column C like in the example shown in the link above).
Here's the formula from the example:
Code:
=IFERROR(INDEX(List1,ROWS(C1:$C$1)),IFERROR(INDEX(List2,ROWS(C1:$C$1)-ROWS(List1)),""))
I've played around with it, but could not come with any that worked.

I want to format a cell conditional on the value of another cell. I have read numerous threads on the topic and no matter what I do, it doesn't seem to work for me. I've made it a simple as possible by creating a new workbook and entering:
A1: 5
B1: 2
C1: Some random text - this cell has the conditional formula: ="A1>B1"
However, the cell doesn't get formatted. Here is a screenshot and here is the simple workbook.

> +/- 10% RED
+/- 6-10% YELLOW
+/- 5% GREEN
