Dates Imported From An External Application In The Format

I have a very large spreadsheet that comes out of SAP and it brings out the majority of cell entries as text ie putting a ' at the begining of any number. the problem that i have is with the cells that have a date in them ie '19/04/07. I have tried varioous methods to remove this and turn the cells into date format but to no avail.
Also i do not get the option to convert text to number
How I can directly write info from an external application to an Excel sheet
Actually, I'm using a special dll collection to do it, but I would need to buy the 64 version soon. Problem is I use only one function of the entire collection so I want to look on how to create it my self. Basically, it took data from my charting software and write directly to my Excel Worksheet.Cell
I have the following code which edits an excel file and saves it in a different format, I think want the code to take this newly saved file and open it in an external application (Softplot) and then save it through this new application.
VB:
Sub FormatMacro1a(ws As Worksheet)
ws.Copy
Rows(1).Delete
Columns("D:E").Cut Destination:=Columns("J:K")
Columns("F:K").Cut Destination:=Columns("D:I")
Range("E1:E201").Value = "0"
[Code] .....
As it stands I have the file saving in a new format and I can open a specific file in softplot through VBA however where I am getting stuck is opening my newly saved file and then saving it.
I have tried the following :
VB:
Path = "C:Program FilesSoftPlot-8softplot.exe"
File = "ActiveWorkbook"
The problem i'm having is that these data downloads come off the server like this:
01/14/08
so i'm getting the green triangle error "text date with 2 digit year"
with the option to covert it to 19xx or 20xx.
I have to manually select this text and select 20xx before it is recognized by excel for what it is. only after this is the conditional format rule processed, and my 5 day old dates turn their appropriate colors.
When i set up a macro record while i do this date conversion, it does not record any command for this conversion.
Is there any code i can enter that will automatically do this conversion process for me without having to do it by hand?
I have 85 Html files that I open in excel. The files have a bunch of columns with numbers. Excel handles most of them properly, but if the number looks like a date, it is imported as a date (which it shouldn't be). For example if the number is 13-1, excel handles it fine, but if the number is 12-1, excel thinks it is a date and imports Dec-01. How do I get excel to import it as 12-1?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI use a program that can export data into Excel. For the most part, it works fine. except it doesn't correctly handle dates. For some reason, when it pastes a date into excel it includes 8 or 9 (depending if the month is 1 or 2 digits) spaces in front of the date which makes calculations with these dates impossible unless you go into each cell and delete the spaces (or do Find / Replace).
Is there a way I can create a non-VBA formula that will reference any one of these cells and some how identify what the date is & then that cell can be the date I can calc on? I.e., A1 is the date with the spaces in front, B2 is the cell that will reference A1 and produce, as the contents of B2, the date in A1. I can then use B2 in calculations.
Note: the month formats possible are: M/DD/YY (Jan. - Sept.) & MM/DD/YY (Oct. - Dec.). There are no other variations.
to change the format of some dates that are imported as text.

I was shown a way to convert dates correctly.
This solution works perfectly when carried out manually, but doesn't work if a record a macro and then replay it - only some of the dates are converted.
Here is a small sample of the dates I'm working with...
04/09/2008
05/10/2007
08/10/2007
14/09/2007
15/09/2007
17/09/2007

19/03/2008

21/09/2007
25/09/2008
27/09/2007
28/09/2007
28/09/2007
And here's the recorded macro, deliberately left exactly as is
I import date information in text format and need to add to the date. My date info in in column "J" and in Column "K" I would desire to write a formula that allows me to to the following. My data looks like this in text: yyyymmdd
I desire to look in column "E" and I have 3 different variables. "J", "K", "L".
If column "E" has a j add 30 to the years; K add 35 years and L add 38 years.
for Example: 19630923 j = 19930923 k = 19980923 L = 20010923
I am importing data from my AS400 in Excel, the dates are coming into the spreadsheet as numerics. How do I convert these numbers into a date format? i.e. 3202002 should be 3/20/2002, how do I get the number to that format?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to bring in 2600 student names from a cvs file and have it formatted to an Excel workbook.
When it imports into the Excel file I need it to populate the proper boxes, such as:
StudentLastName
StudentFirstName
StudentID
GradeLevel
TeacherName
TeacherID
RoomNumber
I have the CVS attached. Hope I can get this done. As you can see it shows the teacher's name with their first initial, their teacher number that they are identified by and their room number. I need the student ID as well but not the phone number and the days of the week. This would save a lot of work.
I am receiving an error from the Microsoft Query wizard when I try and create a query of an xlsx or xlsm file. The error is "External table is not in the expected format."
Why this error is coming up and how I can correct the file so that I can write a query to pull info from a Named Range in the file.
I have written some code to duplicate the Microsoft query using ADODB but get the same error message when the Open connection line runs.
I have an excel table that connects to an external sharepoint site.
When I refresh (via external data connection), the "start date" and "end date" column formats change. The only way I can correct this is to copy those columns to notepad, and then paste them back into the spreadsheet.
I have several calculated cells based upon these date fields. Once refreshed, the data is incorrect until I copy and paste those dates as stated above.
This removes the functionality of simply "refreshing" the data resulting in a manual process.
Hi Guys, This has been bugging me for a bit now and I just can't sus it...
I have a sample perpetual calender that I have been modifying to fit my own purpose. The calender part works fine.
I have beside that a column for holidays, etc and then a another column for other events.
When I put the date in the holiday or events columns I would like the date to be highlighted in the calender above (different colour depending on which column it came from).
The formula I have been playing with (no success) is:
=MATCH(DATE($R$2,1,C8),$I$41:$I$65,0) - This is the Formula for the 1st column of dates.
The 2nd formula is similar, just changes the column it tries to draw the MATCH(DATE.... from...
Although this formula works fine on the sample spreadsheet. When I enter the formula on my sheet, it doesn't seem to work...
I have attached the spread sheet that I am working on.
there are a multitude of issues with US date formats when you're not in the US but I've run across one that I can't figure out.
I have a source table that has approx 5000 lines on it, everything looks correct and all the dates are in the correct (Australian) format. However when I use it to make a pivot table, any dates that are before the 12/m/yyyy gets changed to the mmddyyyy format in the pivot table only, all the source dates are still correct.
I have a some dates in a format which are not being converted into the normal date format. So i made this formula to convert it into the normal date format:
=IF(LEN(B218)=10,(MID(B218,4,2)&"/"&LEFT(B218,2)&"/"&RIGHT(B218,4))+0,IF(LEN(B218)=9,(MID(B218,3,2)&"/"&LEFT(B218,1)&"/"&RIGHT(B218,4))+0,IF(LEN(B218)=8,(MID(B218,3,1)&"/"&LEFT(B218,1)&"/"&RIGHT(B218,4))+0,"")))
Formula is working fine except on this type of date "9/9/2013"..i also tried an OR formula with mid but didnt get the desired result.These are the type of dates:
12/10/2013
12/9/2013
9/11/2013
9/9/2013
7/25/2013
(Date1-Date2) : what's the format I should use to obtain the result in number of days.
For example :
(23/12/2006 16:30:00) - (18/11/2006 15:30:00) : It should give 35 days 1 Hour (35:01:00:00 - dd:hh:mm:ss)
How can I have this format (dd:hh:mm:ss)
I have loaded a .csv file in which the first column contains date/times, e.g. 01/12/2012 00:00. How do I now tell Excel (2010) that this is in fact a date/time format? If I select one or more of the cells, click on the Number dialog box launcher and try to pick a suitable format tghe cells resolutely refuse to budge from being text (i.e. left-justified, still allows me to edit the 'seconds' component to a number > 60). Also which data type should I be using? The only one that appears to have a full date/time format listed is Custom (not Date or Time).

I have a file from a database that includes birthdays and anniversaries. These are mainly in US format as far as I can tell, but I am trying to get these all in UK date format but when I try and change any of the formatting half of them don't seem to change.
I have attached the file : Dates.xls
I have used excel for years. I understand how to format dates. However, lately, after I tell the cell to format it as a date, and then type in a date, it inserts some random date (not the numbers at all that I entered).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have attached a sample of the raw output of some call records from our telephone switch. My problem with the date data is twofold; first of all it outputs it in mm/dd/yyyy format, or so it appears. But when I try to change the format to mmm/ddd/yy Excel always interprets the 2nd pair of digits as the month instead of the first two. For example,the following 2 calls are from Jan 1st and Jan 2nd respectively;
01/01/2010
01/02/2010
but excel always treats the 2nd record as Feb 1st. I have read numerous posts from people with similar problems but I can't get any of their solutions to work with my data.
The second problem is that on the 13 of each month the phone switch suddenly stops putting a leading zero in front of the date making the data totally unreadable to Excel apparently. Again, I read a post of a similar problem but can't get their solution to work. My ultimate goal is to reformat the date data so that it is displayed as; ddd mm/dd and leave out the year entirely. Ex. Fri 02/12 as in today...Friday, Feb 12th. I really don't know if the problem is with the data or me at this point.
I am also new to vba (am teaching myself with the help of the guru's on this site!). My problem is to do with dates. I have created a variable in VBA that reads a cell with the value of a date in text format, for example SEP2006. I want to use this value to paste into another excel cell. When I do it actually creates it as a numeric date when I really want to just use it as text, "SEP2006". I have been looking at this for a while and I'm not sure if it's a case of "can't see the wood for the trees". A small example of my code is:
Sub DateValue()
Dim dateValue As String
Range("D2").Select
datevalue=activecell.text
Range("a3", [b65536].End(xlUp).offset(0,1))= datevalue
End Sub
I'm in the process of setting up an Excel document and I need to be able to have it display dates in a specific format. I need it to express just a month and year such that the month is represented by a letter (A thru L) and the year is expressed as its last two digits such as in the these examples:
May 2012 = E12
Mar 2009 = C09
Nov 2011 = K11 etc.
I want the date to come out in this format regardless of how the user enters it.
Below is a format of dates I want to make it in weekly format, select the Fridays or any specific day and separate them from this list.....
01-10-2013
03-10-2013
04-10-2013
07-10-2013
08-10-2013

I have dates (column E) and times (column F) currently in the format mm/dd/yyyy and hh:mm .
However, my formula in excel deals with dates and times in the format mmddyyyy and hhmm. How do I change the values of the dates to exclude the "/" and the times to exclude the ":" operators?
I want to change the actual value of the cell too. Basically, using custom format mmddyyyy in the date column will not work (because the true value of the date will still yield mm/dd/yyyy.
I need to format dates on the data labels of my pivot chart. My table has the correct format: dd mmm yy but the chart is showing dd/mm/yyyy.
How do I change this?
