Finding Text Within A Longer String

i need help with 2 formulas to return text within a longer string.

the first result i need is a style #. this will always start at the 5th character, but the length is variable. it will always end right before the last "/" or "" in the string (there may or may not be a / or within the style number)

the 2nd result i need is a description of the style. this will always be after the last "/" or "" in the string and end before a ".", but there may not always be a period in the string.

Text string: ABC123123BASIC TEE.black
Style # result: 123123
Description result: BASIC TEE

Text string: DEF/4567LEAH/FLORAL TANK DRESS
Style # result: 4567LEAH
Description result: FLORAL TANK DRESS

Finding A Number Within A Text String
I want to find a number within a text string, then count the letters in the same string, then add the number to the number of letters.

For example, if I have 9RR in a cell, I want to add 9 + 2 = 11.

The data will always be arranged with the number on the left side of the string.

So, if the number is a single digit, I know I can use left(A1) + len(A1) -1 to get my desired result. But, the trouble I am having is what if there is a double digit number like 10RR...I'm not quite sure how to create a formula (without using VBA) to give me a result of 12 for this cell.

Finding Text String & Format
I have a mass of text in a cell. I would ideally like to search the text to format in a different font colour so it can be easily seen where the specific text is.

My current way is to use SEARCH in conditional formatting but this changes the whole cell not the specific text I am interested in.

EG. - I interested in the text PETER in my cell so would like PETER to be in red font.

A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked; If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

VBA Function For Finding A Character In A Text String
Is there a function in VBA that is similar to either the FIND function or SEARCH function in Excel? The arguments for the FIND function in Excel are FIND(find_text, within_text, [position]).

I have a text string in VBA ("$A1:$D$13") that I want to be able to identify the first "$" and then later the ":". I'm getting tripped up on the 3rd line of code. Thanks a million.

Sub page_set_print_area()

x = ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintArea
Position$ = Search("$", x, 0)

Text Longer Than A Column
I just reinstalled windows (XP) and Office 2003, SP3.
When entering text in a column and if it was larger than the current column, it used to just display into the next column unless there was data in that column.

Now, it just displays a few letter from the end of the first word. How can I change this back as default?

Longer Text Entry Turns Into ####..
I have a form in Excel that has comments fields. Each comments field is a merged cell consisting of four rows and four columns. My understanding is that Excel should be able to display 1024 characters. The input that's causing me trouble has 360 characters. At around 300 characters, the text box gets filled with ############################# instead of text.

If I size the font down significantly to where there would be absolutely no question that the text would fit, it is still #######. I may have to end up using text boxes, but they are a bit troublesome for the less Excel-savvy users of the form.

Finding Numbers From String
I am trying to find numbers from a string. I have for example words "EUR Fwd 9x12" and "Eur Fwd 11x15" And i want to write a function that reads the first number from a string if there is only one number before "x" or two numbers if there are 2 numbers. So I have tried to build following function:

Function NumbersInString(Word As String) As Integer
Dim i As Integer
Dim FirstNumberInString As Integer, SecondNumberInString As Integer
For i = 1 To Len(Word)
If IsNumeric(Mid(Word, i, 1)) Then
FirstNumberInString = Mid(Word, i, 1)
If IsNumeric(Mid(Word, i + 1, 1)) = False Then
Exit Function
Else
SecondNumberInString = Mid(Word, i + 1, 1)
End If
End If

Next
NumbersInString = FirstNumberInString & SecondNumberInString
End Function

Finding The First Number In A String
We are trying to make either a macro or a function that will look through the contents of a cell, find the first NUMBER and then paste the results to another column. Below is an example of what may be in cell A1:

#BC7K,03/30/2007,0.00636,0.0069,0.00614,0.0062,0.0,0

We want only to find the FIRST NUMBER in this string, so the result should be 7.

Finding Date Within String (hyperlink) And Pasting Value
I have a sheet which contains a folder listing of files with the filename displayed as a hyperlink.

I would like to have a formula which works out a couple of values based on the file name which has been copied into a given cell as a hyper link.

In my sheet Column F contains the file names (as hyperlinks)

e.g. Anab AM1 2006-02-27.pdf
or CD 01_02 2006_05_18(2).pdf

I'd like to create a formula for Column A which will give me the first 2 blocks of text which are seperated by a space (in the examples above it would be "Anab AM1" and "CD 01_02") Anything after the second space should be ommited (including the 2nd space itself)

I'd also like column B to find the date within the filename. Note this is not always the rightmost part of the filename (excluding the .pdf) I've worked out I can use the Find function to find the '2006' (I'll always have the same year in here as my folder listings are sorted by year) but it returns the character where 2006 is located e.g. for "Anab AM1 2006-02-27.pdf" it gives me 10.

My date formats are always in the form yyyy-(or_)mm-(or_)dd

Extract Multiple Text Strings From A Long Text String
An original text string entry appearing in an Excel cell would be:

"N7C Neuroprotective J5Z Antiviral, other M2Z Antiarthritic, other J5A Antiviral, anti-HIV"

I need to extract N7C, J5Z, M2Z and J5A from this string and list these alphanumeric values in separate cells adjacent to the original text string. The challenge is that these alphanumeric references may appear in different positions within the original string with no fixed value e.g. a "," separating them. The alphanumeric references may also be 3 or 4 characters in length and there may be different numbers of alphanumeric references in the original string.

Another example would be (very different from the first):

"T2Z Recombinant, other K5B Radio-chemoprotective J3Z Antibacterial, other D3A Vulnerary A10C Symptomatic antidiabetic K6Z Anticancer, other R8A Antiasthma B6A Septic shock treatment I1Z Immunostimulant, other S1Z Ophthalmological R8B Antiallergic, non-asthma M1A1 Anti-inflammatory"

You can see that in this further example "A10C" & "M1A1" are 4 character alphanumeric strings wheras the others feature 3 characters.

Check If Text String In Cell With Other Text Is In List
I have a sheet in which some of the cells have two strings separated by a linefeed. I have come up with a cumbersome formula which will let me check if either of the two strings is a member of a list stored on another sheet. However, it fails if there is only one string in the cell, presumably as there is no linefeed for the formula to find. How can I modify the formula to cope with this situation?

There are also on occasions, three strings in the cell, but I can't seem to access the middle string with the formula. Simplified spreadsheet attached to show the problem. This must be formula-based, as we have a no VBA policy. If you think there is better way of doing this, please let me know.

Column A contains words like Info/German, Info/German2, Info/Italian etc. But I only need to find the average of cells that begin with "Info/German".

I can grab the top header and move them back to the left but I have no visible bottom slider bar and the side slider bar when at the lowest point that I can pull it down to is about 1000 rows from the last entry. I have other Workbooks that are working perfectly. Its like my Monitor needs to be two inches taller.

I have checked View settings -- Format Settings -- Resizing and all other things that I can think of, all to no avail.

VB For Finding Certain Val's At END Of Text Strings
Column A has prepopulated list of values of various lengths, no spaces. Need to search column A for certain values at the END of each text string, and then populate the cell right next to it with another constant value.

Example: macro searches column A for cells with "123" at the END of the cell value (whole cell value could be A123 or ABC123, etc...). When macro finds the cells that meet this criteria, it places the constant value "XYZ" in column B right next to the cell in col A.

I need several variations on this theme and the # of characters being searched for at the end of each text string can vary. The constant value to be inserted in Col B can also vary. I imagine 'For Each' loops for every variation would work, I just do not know how to write the code for searching the "end of the text string" part of it

Match Limitations: Not Finding Value In Cells With Alot Of Text.
I think Match has trouble finding a value thats within a cell containing a lot of words.

Heres the example. I'm trying to find the word "Hello world" in cell B1, in Column A.

Column A
1 Lots of Text
2 Text Text. Hello world. text text
3 Text Text

Cell B1
Hello world

Column B2
Match("*"&B1&"*",A:A,0)

When theres only 1 sentence in Cell A2, the function works and returns 2.
However, when Cell A2 contains a few paragraphs the function returns #NA.

I don't necessarily need to use Match, if this is indeed a limitation does anyone of suggestions to work around, other than vlookup?
