Formula To Go Through Each Row And If The 2nd Column Is Yes Then Return The First Column

Jul 27, 2009

I have a collection of data like the following:
Week1 | yes
Week2 | no
Week3 | no
Week4 | yes
Week5 | no
...
Week28 | yes

I need a formula to go through each row and if the 2nd column is yes then return the first column. I could then copy and paste this formula into a the next cell, add an argument saying the returned value cannot be the same as the previous ones, and so on. Essentially this is a series of nested IF statements. However, Excel prevents more than 7 statements from being nested, when I need all 28 to be searched. I cannot think of a way to get VLOOKUP, INDEX & MATCH, or defined names to make this work, because it needs to step through each row.

Formula To Return Column Header If There Is Data In The Column

Sep 18, 2012

I need a formula to return column header if there is data in the column, any data. But I also need to return the second, third, fourth header with data too

In column A row 2, I have =IF(M8"",$M$1,IF(N8"",$N$1,IF(O8"",$O$1,IF(P8"",$P$1,IF(Q8"",$Q$1,IF(R8"",$R$1,IF(S8"",$S$1,IF(T8"",$T$1,""))))))))

This returns the row 1 header for the first instance of data in row 2 columns M thru T But in B2, I need the second header with data in the column.

I need the results in yellow (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) from the array to it's left

1St match2nd 3rd 4thColumn MColumn NColumn OColumn PColumn QColumn R
Column MColumn PColumn QData data2Data3
Column NColumn OColumn PColumn R Data Data2 data3 data4

Would use match/index but can't increment it to the second or 3rd match

I've been searching the forums for this problem but I can't seem to find any answers. Anyway, this is the problem. See screenshot.

I want to compare A1 for the values in column B, then return the corresponding cell (column C) in column D.
e.g. D1 = 2, D2 = 1, D3 = 4, D4 = 5 and D5 = 3.

Formula That Can Read Row And Column Labels And Return Value?

Jan 30, 2013

I would like to know if there is any formula that can read this:

Measure1 Measure2 Measure3 Measure4
Facility1 10 15 11 18
Facility2 20 16 32 21
Facility3 9 18 17 13

All this is in one big table and I have around hundred columns. I wish to create one lookup table that will pull values out of this, on a separate worksheet. This is how my lookup table looks like:

Measure3 Measure8
Facility1
Facility2
Facility3

My raw labels will be complete and they should match with lookup table labels. I need to extract Measure3 and Measure8 for different facilities, depending if I have any data in there. The search criteria for column labels should be dynamic and if I change label for let's say Measure1 it would update for all facilities. What formula can read both raw labels and column labels and return value at the interesection of both these criteria.

The correct solution should be Take2, while matching the condition from B2 latest date.

Formula To Return The Value In A Column Based On Cell Entry In Row

Jun 3, 2006

Trying to write a formula that looks for the first number in the same row, then returns the value in that column in a different row. In the example included, cell A-7 should contain the formula. Within row 7, determine the column where the first number is listed (column D in this case), then return the value listed in row 3 of that column ('C' in this case).

I've tried Lookup, Index, and Match functions, but can't seem to get the right combination.

Nested Index / Match Array - Return Value In Column C When Matching Column A And B But With Few More Criteria

Jun 7, 2014

I am trying to use a nested INDEX and MATCH array formula to return the value in column C when matching column A and column B, but with a few more criteria.

The range containing all the data

A
B
C

1
Cat 1
January 1, 2014
John

[Code] ..........

I am looking for the array formula to return the name of the person in column C who is in Cat 1 after the date in column B.

For example;
C7 should return "John" because B7 requests "January 15, 2014", which is after the value in B1
C8 should return "John" because B8 requests "February 15, 2014", which is after the value in B1
C9 should return "Andrew" because B9 requests "August 15, 2014", which is after the value in B4

The best try I had for the formula in C7 was

{(INDEX($A$1:$C$4,MATCH(1,($B$1:$B$4>=B7)*(A$1:$A$4=A7),0),3))}

This brings back "John" as desired in C7, but when copying down the table into C8 and C9 both C8 and C9 return Andrew.

I guess this is due to my ">=" condition in the Match formula and it is returning "Andrew" because "Andrew" is also after the date requested, but I cannot for the life of me work out how to get it to work.

Identify Part Of String In One Column And Return Entry In Neighboring Column?

Feb 28, 2014

I have a spreadsheet of several thousand named items (in column B) with values associated with them in column A). The "name" field is a string of several alternative names for the item.

I have a list of ~50 items that I am trying to find the values for. Each uses one of the alternate names.

What I want is a function that will return the associated value in column A when one of my shortlist names is found.

For example, my big spreadsheet looks like:

AB
1dallas, DFW. 12345
2Atlanta, ATL, 23456
3Boston, BOS, 34567
4Chicago, CHI, 45678
5Los Angles, LA, LAX, 56789

And my list looks like

Atlanta
CHI

I want the output to look something like:

Atlanta2
CHI 4

Is the feasible? IT seems like there should be a way to do it....

Search For Value In Multiple Column And Row Array And Return Value In First Column?

Dec 16, 2013

I have an array 20 Rows x 42 Columns, which contains a competition draw.

I need to search this array for a unique value and return whatever the time is in the first column on the same row as the value appears, and enter it into column C in the Womens Times sheet.

I also want to return into column D the court number from row 3.

The reason i want this automated is as teams enter / withdraw we may need to drag the games from court to court to fill gaps, so i want the Womens Times sheet to update accordingly.

I have been messing around with index and match, but cannot quite get it to return what i need.

I have attached an example ... on the sheet "Womens Times" in column A there is a list of game numbers ( #1W etc etc) indicating womens game #1 and so on. The main sheet i am using also has a seperate tab for the mens games, hence the designator of W or M on the end of the game number.

Searchable List Box To Return Column Other Than Searched Column?

Jan 23, 2014

I need the searchable list box to return data one column to the right of the "searched" column data.

This works mostly with Data Validation.

Named range "validationlist" with "=OFFSET(Choice!$AC$4,,,COUNTIF(Choice!$AC$4:$AC$14,"?*"))"

D9 has a drop down control. Enter the cell and type "br" and click the drop down arrow. Mouse to choose an item from the list box. If you chose "brown" , it will be entered in the cell. The returned item should be "banana" from the other column. How to do this?

Once working the control needs to be used across the row in more cells: E9, F9... all the way out to W9. And there has will be a Lookup to pull data from elsewhere above D9.

This worksheet ultimately needs to be uploaded to Skydrive and used as a collaborative worksheet as a 'web app'.

See attachment and formula output below.

Search A Column Of Dates & Return Data From Another Column

Jun 8, 2009

I am trying to get a formula that will search one column range “B” and pull data from another, “D”. Dates are down column “B” and some of those dates are repeated several times. In column “D” there is only one piece of data (a number) entered for each day. Eg, if 08/06/2009 has been entered 3 times in column “A”, there will only be data entered in 1 of the cells of column “D” and blank cells in the other 2.

Column B -- Column D
07/06/09 -- 54000
08/06/09
08/06/09 -- 62000
08/06/09
09/06/09 -- 61000

I couldn’t get the LOOKUP function to work properly, as there are duplicate dates in column “B” and I often got a result of 0 returned.

As I’ve only got 1 piece of data added in column “D” per day and any duplicate days would just have blank cells in “D”, I can actually get a SUMIF function to work, SUMIF(B3:B60,DATE(2009,6,8),D3:D60). Although it does work, it doesn’t feel right using it and I would prefer a formula that would return just the one cell, instead of the sum of a range of cells.
