I have some cells with some spaces and then text where I want to find the position of the first letter. Do any of you know about any function I can use?
The example below contain 5 spaces and then my name. It should give me the answer 6.
I'm having some difficulties in defining my formula. I'm pretty sure that this should be possible. I have a table containing values and dates. For each change in dates, I should summarize every value for that date. I cannot use the autosummarize function, because I do not want the sum to be beneath the values, rather in a column to the right of the values.
I have created a formula which checks for a change in date: =IF(C15=C16;0;1) where the C column contains the dates. Basically I say that the Index column should contain a 0 if the date is the same as previously registered, 1 if it is a new date.
The index column is used in some conditional formatting rules, so I would like to keep it anyway.
I am trying to work out how to get nth position of a character in a string. For example in this
Code:
kjishdfiuayigdscka if I use the formula Code: =FIND("i",I$1),
it will give me answer 3. But I want the position of 3rd "i" in the string. The answer should be 12. How can I change this formula to get the correct result?
Title should read: Finding the nth Occurrence of a character within a text string
I have a very long text string that is delimited by about 50 "/" to segment certain values within the text string. I want to be able to extract the text between the 33rd and 34th occurrence of "/". How to do this?
Essentially what I'm trying to accomplish is import a file from Quickbooks and determine whether it was a Credit Card, Check or Invoice based on the account number.
For example:
45-12345 should return the value CC in an adjacent cell because it contains the "-" character. I0123456 should return the value INV in an adjacent cell because it contains the "I" character. 01234567 should return the value ACH in an adjacent cell because it doesn't contain either character.
I tried using VLookup, but I can't figure out how to write a formula for when it just contains a character, only if it matches it or is text/number.
Cells A1:A5 all have a vlookup formula that will pull one of the following into it:
1. The word "NONE" 2. #N/A error since it doesn't exist in the table 3. A text value that has the format 13.55.46.91
I want a formula that will look at these 5 cells and give me #3. That #3 value can only appear once in the 5 cells in any of those 5. The other 4 cells will contain either 1 or 2.
3 always has length equal to 11. It always has periods in those places. The digits do change.
I have a row of cells that contain a single letter: W,C,O.
I need to provide a count of the number of occurancies of each letter. So I have a cell that shows me the total W's, a cell showing me total C's and another showing total O's.
Whats easiest way to do this?
I know its not ideal, but on this occassion ive no desire to add and hide another column.
if a cell contains character A THEN multiply by cell B * 0.02,if a cell contains character B THEN multiply by cell B * 0.05,if a cell contains character C THEN multiply by cell B * 0.010
I have a very large workbook with multiple sheets and use macros to copy and paste all data as values, then delete some rows and columns depending on certain criteria. This starts at cell A1 and works right, then down.
This is then saved as a copy and distributed to a wide audience.
The problem is that when each page is opened up, the data shown is the bottom right of the whole sheet instead of the top left ( Panes are frozen for row and column headers).
I'm having a 6000+ records, (contacts DB) exported in Excel 2003 format from MS Outlook.
Except the "First" and "LastName", all other contact elements are in the field "Notes" (which is the BZ column according to the exported outlook layout) multiplied by 6469 (records in total)
Now, I want every time to take the part of the text says "TER:something..." (part of which is date, but not every time with the known format dd-mm-yyyy, as you see here is yyy, followed by something else, with parenthesis here and maybe more data) and copy it in a new cell..., e.g:CO Column, same Row...
Above and every field which by the way is formatted as General (and it is text mainly) are made by merging older excel fields where data laid here and there, that's why you see the commas...with the method of a module with the following code:
Function MyMerge(Rng As Range) For Each Cell In Rng Temp = Temp & Cell.Value & ", " Next Cell Temp = Mid(Temp, 1, Len(Temp) - 2) MyMerge = Temp End Function
Note1:Records with the above string (TER:dd-mm-yyy) are 771 from 6469. Note2: As an alternative solution I can see an extraction of the TER:dd-mm-yyy string and the copy in a new place, like the:CO Column, same Row...
Part of my code adds a Worksheet to the selected Workbook and then re-orders them alphabetically, but one of the Worksheets (Called home) should always remain at position 1. Is there a way to dictate exactly which postion it should be in so that I can place it there after the sort is complete?
I have a worksheet that has a months worth of data on it. The sheet is divided into sections with each day of the month being given 10 rows. So day 1 of the month will occupy rows 1 to 10, day 2 rows 11 to 20 and so on.
In each of these sectors, I would like to have an editable tick list that displays when a certain cell is selected. For example in day 1, selecting cell A3 will display the tick box. If I need a tick list for each day, would I need to create a fresh userform for each day or is it possible to have just one form and have excel remember the setting.
I have one Popup Menus in Userform, But i want to to Open Popup menu in Specific Position in userform, In Fixed Position,i want to specific a position which opens Popup Menus in Userform.
I have a very large file of data, over 500,000 rows, opening in one sheet in Excel is not an option with my current version. In each row I need to change the characters in positions 41-44 from whatever they current are, to '9999'. I'm sure there has to be a way I can do this using vba, does anyone have a sample snippet of code, or another post they can point me too?
1) In any cell, I would like to remove "Area#xxxxxxxxx" (where x are random numbers).
Example : "INFO Log - [sys] Area#541185471Character#46545"
2) I would like to remove x characters before a word.
Example : 2013-08-28.txt@INFO
I would need to remove 14 characters before the character "@".
I tried to play with the LEN and RIGHT/LEFT formula but so far, I can't get it to work... The idea is to parse some text and remove the part in red (I was thinking about using SUBSTITUTE).
Switched to Excel after using OpenOffice and I'm stuck on knowing what an old a 'find and replace' formula would be in Excel. It would remove a specific character (or word) ONLY if it was the last characters in a cell.
The old find and replace for open office: Find: (.*)/$ Replace: $1
It's not that important now to delete a word, mainly the last slash '/' ONLY if it's the last character e.g. this data has 2 rows with a '/' as the last character
How to get Excel to select all cells within a specific column that contain a specific character. In this instance, I need to select all the cells which contain a comma...
And even better would be if I could get Excel to not just select all the cells in a specific column containing a comma, but each of the rows in which those cells reside.
I have an issue with a Pivot table: I am using the 'show report filter pages' function and prior to this I have ensured my character length of that field is equal or less than 31 however when I hit the function the tab names are shortened to 26.
I need to make a list of Part Numbers in quotation marks. If a number of digits of a P/N is less than 13 a number of space characters has to be added to make the string 13 characters long.
We have example P/N: 1234567890123 12345678 123456
should become: "1234567890123(no extra space characters should be filled-13chars)" "12345678(5 extra space characters here)" "123456(7 extra space characters)"
Is there a function that inputs a cerain number of a specific character ("space" in this example)?
