Catching Errors When Using The Find / Replace Function / Replace All
Apr 20, 2006Need assistance with the code for catching errors when using the find / replace function in excel? In particular, I am trying to write code to break to an error message when the value or string searched for isn't found in the find / replace. At the minute I have just copied the standard code using a macro and all this does is return a message box saying X entries replaced.

( about 2-3 paragraphs worth) I'm trying to replace a name with another name, which works fine where the cell contains a single or few sentences, but fails to replace when the cell contains too much information.

The pattern is that the A1 text appears in the B2 text. What I want is
Find *A1
Replace with blank

and etc.
So that in the end, I get this:

I've looked at the functions of find, replace, substitute, left, and right and I can't seem to find the right one to do what I need.
Using FIND Function In Macro To Replace Value In Adjacent Cell?
Aug 10, 2012I am using a macro to find a value in a cell and if found, replace the value in the cell to the left. Thr macro works fine - unless the value I am searching for does not exist. The answer is ( Ithink) an IF statement, but I am having problems with the errors, when I try the IF.
The macro below blows up at the ActiveCell.Offset(0, -1) = "109073X line with an error "Run-time error "1004" - Application-defines or object-defined error.
I've tried a number of things I've seen from this board but have not found a way past the error.
If the value is found, the macro moves to the else statment and stops at the ActiveCell statement with the above error. If the value is not found, then the macro goto NotFound.

Excel 2010 :: Macro To Perform Find And Replace Function
Apr 8, 2014I have two sheets. One is named sheet1 where all my data is and sheet2 where all my values are. I want to do a find a replace on column N (sheet1) using the data in sheet2. Column A on Sheet2 has all the values that are found in column N and column B on Sheet2 has what the data should change to.
So for example:
Sheet1 says the following on column N:
cat
dog
lion
bear
Sheet2 says:
Column A
A1: Cat
A2: Dog
A3: Bear
Column B
B1: 2
B2: 8
B3:15
I want the values on column N to be replaced with 2, 8, 15 and so forth. I use excel 2010.
Using OFFSET Function To Return The Value From Another Cell With Row And Column Offset
May 31, 2014I am having some difficulties using a combination of IF and the OFFSET function to display a range of cell values from another column based on a simple condition. The values I need to display at the destination cells should be offset by 8 columns to the right and "X" rows down from the reference column. The value "X" is to be determined via the IF function to check for the row index number.
For example, if Index value "X" = 8, then display the value of B2 in cell I9. IF X = "9", display B2 in cell I10 etc.
I have attached a sample worksheet that provides some examples.

Mar 22, 2013I am trying to work out how to nest offset in a code using search replace. The goal is to find a value from cell A1 (example) and replace the values in the cells next to the cell containing samuel and the cell containing samuel.
A sort of search and remove data tool if you like So for example:

Search range is: B1:D400
(for example)
Cell B40 = samuel
C40 = Driver
D40 = year
So, the macro is activated and finds "samuel" in B40 and I would like C40 & D40 replaced with "" The code I'm using is below: (this is just replacing the cell containing the search criteria with "test". I would like to nest offset(0,2) & offset(0,3).Value = ""

Feb 5, 2009This problem has come up fairly frequently lately, and I'm not sure how to fix it, or if this is by design...but in Excel 2003 I can't seem to do a "Find and Replace" based on the value of a cell. I can do a find, based on cell value, but the moment I change to the replace tab, the "values" and "comments" are missing from the "look in" dropdown.
I've only noticed this when I'm trying to replace on a filtered list, so I'm not sure if that is part of the issue.
Perhaps an alternative way of arriving at the same goal. Basically I have a worksheet with a number of filtered columns. They are filtered just right, using custom filtering, and so I do not want to undo the filters. In some columns I have formulas that are returning #VALUE! errors. I'd like to replace all of these cells with NA.
Find And Replace To Not Replace Characters Found As Wildcards?
Jul 2, 2013I recently became owner of a spreadsheet with some issues, and I am trying to make it useful. Each row has a URL of a blog post, and I want to extract the date from it (which is present in each URL) while getting rid of the rest of the URL. I was able to get rid of everything up to the year (which comes first), but then the URL continues, for example, 2013/05/16/the-rest-of-the-url/ and I would like to just have 2013/05/16 remain.
I am trying to use find and replace with the find box reading 2013/??/??/*/ and replacing it with 2013/??/?? which effectively erases everything else in the url, but leaves ?? instead of the numbers. Is there any way to have it so that it keeps whatever was in the original box?

Then he had Conditional Formatting that would highlight the range that was being summed. Vlookup Function Together With An Offset Function
Oct 26, 2008I am trying to use the vlookup function together with an offset function but i am not getting it to work properly.
The situation is as follows:
I have a column E in which i use the vlookup function to find its corresponding value in B which in turn refers to a named range. However, the figure i want the function to return is 2 columns to the right and 2 rows above the value which the vlookup funtion finds in the first column.
I have though of using the offset function, but i cannot figure out how to make this work.

I would like to create a formula to look in E10:Z10 for the maximum value and then return the date associated with that value. For example, if the maximum value is in P10, I would like the formula to return the date in P6.

I want to sum the daily returns for the TSX when the slope is positive (green), and sum the S&P when it is negative. Currently, on signal day, I am summing that day's return, which I don't want to do. I want to sum starting on the next day (blue). The B column switches back and forth from positive to negative, so I will summing different data periods going back 1000 days. I am summing the TSX returns and S&P returns seperately to make it easier. Currently I have in C1=(sumif(b2:b1000,">0",c2:c1000)) Same for D2.

In sheet1 I have named the range I have inserted a Name(Test) for range $A$1:$A$2(range contains only texts) and have a list validation on cell $B$1 using the name. This works perfectly. In sheet2 I have named the range I have inserted a Name(Test1) for range $A$1:$A$2(range contains only numerics) and have a list validation on cell $B$1 using the name. This doesn't work.
