Some Entries Are Not Give The Exact Matching Pair But One Upper

Mar 14, 2009

I am having a problem in using lookup formula. Unfortunately for some entries it does not give the exact matching pair but one upper. I have attached the excel sheet. Please correct me where is the mistake. More about the sheet:

One column contains the alphabets from a certain language and second column contains corresponding unicodes. I want to search the unicode of a particulat alphabet using "lookup". Cell C4 is the key value. D4 uses lookup to get unicode value

Pair Matching/linking

Jun 2, 2007

I have used excel to create a list of matching pairs, which I want to link together. The problem is, all I have been able to create is a very long list of matching pairs, and no way to link all the pairs together. My sheet looks like this.

a b
1 100 200
2 200 300
3 300 400
4 300 500
5 600 700
6 800 700

The first row shows that 100 goes with 200, and the other rows continue defining which blocks go together. What I need is a way to summarize all the blocks that link up, ie get 100-200-300-400-500 and 600-700-800 from this list of relationships. Can't do it with a lookup because some blocks link to multiple other blocks.

Matching Exact Combinations In A Range Between Sheets

Mar 9, 2012

I have an excel file, with roughly 1000 rows and about 6 columns per sheet of data, and about 10 sheets. I need to find combinations of numbers (in a single row) that match exactly with any of the other sheets.

For example, if Sheet 1 row 345 has the values (5,8,10,100,35,49), I want to find any other rows in any other sheets (including the sheet with row 345 values) that match exactly (5,8,10,100,35,49) and somehow identify a matching pair (possibly highlighting the cells).

I want to search every row in every sheet with all the rows/sheets in the excel file.

We could also probably add up all the values in a row into a 7th column, and find any of those #'s that match throughout the project (only in the 7th column), and I can go through and manually look for combinations myself.

Matching Entries From One Spreadsheet To Database

Mar 18, 2014

I run a bowling leagues which as 7 divisions and 10 teams per division, some of the clubs have up to 4 teams entered. I keep a spreadsheet for each division which keeps records of each teams performances as well as individual. All the clubs have to register their players for which I keep a data base for each club, the clubs having 4 teams register quite a number of players. My problem is I have to manually check the data base against players being entered on score cards and then on to the spreadsheet. Down columns B & C on the spreadsheet I have the Forename & Surname, when I enter a name in the cells I would like a formula to check against the clubs data base and return the name or false

Matching 2 Column Entries Returning Third?

May 7, 2012

I have an application that on the "Main" sheet, is to extract two numbers then search for them on my "Listpoint" sheet and finally return the text to the right of the search data (e.g. K3)

Working left to right - the user pastes upto 12 lines of code into C3-C22. Formula in E3 extracts object Nos. Formula in K3 substitutes "first" number if it is a zero (with number from A3).

Left to do - Uses data (H3) to search Listpoint sheet colums C and B for a match. then returns text from Column S.

Note Listpoint has 1000 rows to search.

Main

ABCDEFGHIJKL1 2Osn Number Prog Point Text Extracted
ObJNos Zero replaced Name of Object 1 38 10 IF POINT 0|199 ON OR POINT 8|191
ON THEN RETURN FALSE 0 1998 191 8 1998 191
Example found Text 4 20 IF POINT 0|106 OFF THEN RETURN FALSE "HOLD OFF"

Find Copy And Paste All Entries Matching Search String On Mac PC

Feb 8, 2014

This follows on from my previous posting [URL] ..... which produced a solution using an ActiveX Combobox that unfortunately does not work on Mac PCs!

I tried to replace the ActiveX with a Form Control Combobox but could not make it work.

So I am trying to use the alternative of "find, copy and paste" the relevant information.

As shown on the attached 140207 FINDALL test.xlsm, I need to find all records containing whatever string is entered into the "Search" cell, and copy data form three columns onto the Entry sheet.

The User will then select whichever of the entries they want to use, which will populate the relevant cells.

Problem: The following Code is not recognising any of the data in the Column being searched.

VB:
Option Explicit
Sub FINDPARTS()

Only Allow Upper/Lower Case Not All Upper Or All Lower

Is there a data validation that will not allow all upper case or all lower case characters?

For examples:

Allow:
John Doe

Disallow:
JOHN DOE
101A N WOODBINE STREET

Disallow:
john doe
101a n woodbine street

Or perhaps formatting that would convert the words to upper/lower case?

Or, I would be interested in VBA if it is the only way.

Randomly Pair Up Players

Nov 19, 2012

I have found code which makes a button that randomly pairs up players in a list but I want to make it so that ? players are paired with ? other players instead of everyone at the same time so that a person dosn't get paired with more then one player at a time.

E.g. take the first 6 players in a last and pair them with the second 6.

This is the code I found:

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()

Dim i As Integer, j As Integer, real, oSt As Integer, cl As Range
Dim oCol As Integer
Set RanRng = Range(Range("A1"), Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp))

Slaved Listbox Pair

Apr 23, 2007

I have two lists that represent pairs of electrical connectors. List_1 is Male Connectors, and List_2 is the mating Female Connectors. The lists are built so that when side-by-side, a mating pair line up next to each other.

I'm trying to build a User Interface that presents the connectors as pairs, but also aloow the user to select EITHER member of the pair.

My first thougt was to use a Listview or a Listbox with 2 columns. Either way, the user selects a full row, rather a single entry in a row.

I finally ended up building a userform with 2 Listboxes adjacent to each other, and a Vertical Scrollbar Control to the right of the pair. I added the following code to the form, to scroll both Listboxes simultaneously:

Private Const Display_Lines As Long = 7

Private Sub ListBox1_Click()

Me.ListBox2.ListIndex = -1

End Sub

As far as that goes, it works fairly well. The user scrolls up and down using the Scrollbar control, and paired entries remain adjacent to each other. The user can select an entry from either Listbox, and I can easily harvest that choice through code.

I was hoping, however, that I could support people who use the keyboard for navigation.

Focus on one of the Listboxes, then navigate using the up and down arrow keys. When the user gets to the end of the list, the value of the Scrollbar control increments or decrements as required, thus re-populating the lists. I just can't get this to work in a way that is not cludgey. I have worked through about a half-dozen possible methods, and each one has some hitch that makes it either hokey or unworkable.

VBA Code To Random Pair List Of Names

Oct 23, 2013

I want to create a simple worksheet that takes a list of names (All of the members of my family) and Randomly selects another name from that same list and matches them to it ( I don't want to say "paired" because I want each person to have a one way relationship to the other, in other words just because personA is matched to personB, i don't want personB to automatically be paired to personA) I hope that makes sense. Once every name on the list is matched with a person I would like to move that name to a database that I can track each year. The practical application of it is this: Each year our family randomly draws names and we are tasked to buy a new x-mas ornimate for that person, ideally you would not get the same person 2 years in a row, and the person that you have does not have you in return simply to add more variety and the database would track who had who each year.

Code:
Sub test()
Dim a, i As Long, temp, n As Long
a = Range("b2", Range("b" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp))
Randomize
With CreateObject("System.Collections.SortedList")
For i = 1 To UBound(a, 1)

Given A List Of Numbers (ID) Pair Up (roundrobin) Without Duplicating

Mar 19, 2008

This is my Excel dilemma: creating roundrobin pairs.

For a given list of numbers, I need to generate pairs where each number is paired with all the other numbers without creating a duplicate pair.

For example: 1,3,4,6... (dynamic)

Pairs: 1-3, 1-4, 1-6, 3-4, 3-6, 4-6

Results should be generated in two columns. Column A would be ID1, Column B would be ID2 (the combination of both would be the pair created)

ID1ID2131416343646

I have basic ideas for a macro but the loop within a loop and the OFFSET for the next row is something I really can't put together.

Randomly Pair Players Together To Form Teams

Jun 10, 2008

I need to randomly pair players together to form teams.

For example:
Saturday morning, there are 19 golfers signed up to play together, but want to paired randomly.

This is what we currently do:
In cells A1:A27 I type their names. In B1:B27, I type their handicaps.

We then use a deck of cards to randomly draw teams. We do this by pulling 4-A's, 4-k's, 4-Q's, 4-J's, and 3-10's from the deck. We shuffle these cards and then go down the names in colum A and assign each palyer a card and place the card value into column C. We then highlight all three columns and sort by column C to form teams.

This works ok, but the problem is they all tee off at the same time and need a "super quick" process to form teams in seconds.

The only variable that I might see being a problem is the # of players vary each time they play. There might be 12 one day and 51 the next. We have to form teams into 4 somes and 3 somes, based on the total number of players we get.

Compiling Partially Matching Data Into Matching Rows With Macro

Jan 20, 2013

My task is to combine two large databases into one spreadsheet by extending the number of columns. The data from each database is 90% matching based on an identification number, however occasionally there are additional rows or unmatched identification numbers that need to be kept for analysis.

When this happens, there needs to be a blank row inserted to represent the missing data in the rest of the corresponding row.

I am having trouble finding a quick way to do this because I have approximately 12,000 rows (and columns up to DV when combined).

for example:

p1
data
data
data
data
p2
data
data
data
data

[Code] .....

needs to become:

p1
data
data
data
data

[Code] .....

I am guessing I will need a macro of sorts, So far I have made one column that tell me if the ID's are matching or not (1 or 0) and if they are not matching (0) I manually insert the rest of the row that is missing or make space for the duplicate data (which needs to remain).

Bank Reconciliation - Many To One Matching And Partial Cell Matching

Nov 19, 2009

programming 2 macros in a bank reconciliation sheet I am trying to create.

Basically the data consists of two sets: the ledger side and bank side. Both sides consists of multiple columns that include date, description and amount.

The following two situations can occur and which need to be covered with a macro.

Many to one matching
When we make payments to say 100 different suppliers at once, the ledger side will show 100 lines with the different amounts. However on the bank side it will only show one line with a total amount for the transaction. As the description on the ledger side is the same for all transactions done at the same time, it should be possible to have a macro add these lines and compare the total with entries on the bank side. Once a matching amount has been found, the macro should place an ‘x’ next to all entries on the ledger and bank side, in order to show that these transactions have been reconciled.

Partial cell matching
In this case we are only dealing with one line on both the ledger and bank side. The issue is that the description does not always perfectly match with one another. The ledger side might say ‘Brown Corp.’ and the bank side might say ‘Brown Corporation’. I want to come up with a macro that can recognize this partial match and still reconcile the lines by placing a ‘x’ to both the ledger and bank entry. The match however should be done with a combination of description, date and amount as several different bookings might be done for the same supplier in the same month.
