Trying to rearrange the data to DataFormatedProperly sheet.
So far all I can accomplish is DataFormatedWrong sheet.
Edit: Not sure what happened but file was NOT understandable before. It should be correct now.
I would like a formula to do a lookup multiple results but in a sorted matter.
Example: ....
In my example file are 4 columns. I placed auto filter to columns B and C. If column B sorted to ascending then this changes formulas in column D. I attached workbook also to understand my problem. If you try to sort column B to ascending you will see the problem in column D
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a need to combine multiple columns into a long list of results in 2 final columns. Here is my example...
Current layout with varying number of data points per row...
ColumnA | ColumnB | ColumnC | ColumnD | etc...
example1 | Test1 | Test2 | Test3 | Test4
example2 | Option1 | Option2
example3 | Number1 | Number2 | Number3 | Number4 | Number5
Desired Result
ColumnA | ColumnB
example1 | Test1
example1 | Test2
example1 | Test3
example1 | Test4
example2 | Option1
example2 | Option2
example3 | Number1
example3 | Number2
and so on and on and on until all rows have been filled in down the file...
Is this possible?
how to set one entire columns text to two different colors based on another columns values. So for example I have column A and B. Column A has two values called Internal and External. Column B is a title table so the entire column is just titles. We'll say it goes for 20 rows if you need a row count. What I am looking to do change the text in Column B to Red for External and Blue for Internal. I tried the conditional formatting and I just can't seem to find the right option.
I'm using Win 8.1, Office 2013.
I am trying to sort a long range of text that is placed horizontally in a spreadsheet. I can do it vertically with the sort function in Excel but it does not seem to work for text that is placed horizontally. Example is as below:
Inventory Accounts Human Resources
I found this code on Ozgrid to sort all columns of a worksheet that were continuous with no gaps or spaces that works well:
Sub CopyToA()
Do While ActiveCell <> ""
Range(ActiveCell, ActiveCell.End(xlDown)).Cut Destination:=Range("a65535").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0)
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Select
Loop
End Sub
However, I've tried to manipulate the code myself to 1) find all columns that aren't empty then 2) sort each column individually (WITHOUT expanding the sort to other columns) and 3) combining all the numbers into one seperate column. There are many posts concerning sorting but not one that addressed this particular situation.
Have a spreadsheet with 15 columns. In one of the columns is the name of the company and that column is not in alphabetical order. The city, state, zip code, business type and all the other pertinent data about that company is in the same row as the name of the company. My intent would be to put the company names in alphabetical order and keep all the company information in the same row as the company name.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two columns one is web addresses and the other is email addresses but the rows do not line up. I was hoping that since the second half of the email address matches the web address I could somehow sort them so that the email address column and web address column match up. Here is an example but keep in mind that this list is about 9k long and this is just a sampling so you may not see any in this example that match. Also I may have more than one email address per website.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using the following phrase out of a much longer expression to
demonstrate that the return value of the MID function seems to be nothing I
can understand.
This expression:
=MID("6/10x",1,FIND("x","6/10x)-1))
returns 6/10 as text which makes sense. However I was under the impression
that when text in Excel contains numeric characters, it can be interpreted
as a number. So then how does the following expression,
=MID("6/10x",1,FIND("x","6/10x)-1)*1
return the result 38878? Does it still think it's text?
I am looking for a formula that will yield the following: IFAH9>AI9 return the word Green, IFAH9=AI9 return the word Blue, IFAH9<AI9 return the word Yellow. If AI9 is blank stay blank.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to run a macro if the result of an IF function is true.
E.g. cell J55 contains =IF(H55>I55,"Goodbye","")
H55 contains =NOW()
I55 contains =DATE(2012,12,31)
Now by changing the dates etc. it prints Goodbye.... simple enough, but what I want is for it to run a macro that selects a range from the previous year's figures and simply changes the fill colour on the range. The macro for this also works fine.
I have a huge worksheet that contains four character payer code in column D for example: 9081, M897, 0235. I am looking for a function that will show the result in column AD
IF payer code in column D starts with a 9 (9???) - GOVT
IF payer code in column D starts with a 7 (7???) or M (M???) - MNGD
IF payer code in column D starts with a 2 or 0 (zero) – COMM
IF payer code in column D starts with either Z, I, C - PTR
I tried IF function, but it didn’t work for me.
Can this Formula work? Where if c2<e5 then its value is a number. The formula below is what i tried but it didnt work
=IF((C2<E5);"c5=value=f5")
I've created a Database using excel which feeds data to a pivot table I created based on it. My objective is to create a new item in this pivot table (Pivot Table > Formulas > Calculated Item) which calculates the average data for the past 6 months.
The formula I used in order to get a result is this:
=IF(((May+June+July+August+September+October)/6)=0;;(May+June+July+August+September+October)/6)
and the problem is that the answer is 0 when there is no data for all 6 months (for example, there is a customer who hasn't baught anything during the past 6 months), the pivot table displays 0, instead of not showing this customer at all. My goal is for the IF function not to return any data if the result is 0, so that the pivot table doesn't show items with no data.
I also tried:
=IF(((May+June+July+August+September+October)/6)=0;"";(May+June+July+August+September+October)/6)
and also using ;" ";
but these formulas return #VALUE! in the pivot table, given that the Data is "SUM OF Sales" and "" is not a number.
How can I get the formula not to show anything at all?
In addition to this, I was wondering if it is possible to make this formula more automated, so that it calculates the average of the past 6 months, taking into account some type of reference month (rather than having to edit the formula each time a new month is analyzed).
I have a simple/dumb question... How do you "capture" a value that is returned by a custom function.
I have tried searching the forums for this & I know that I should by all rights know how to do this by now... but I just can't figure it out.
Here is a Function that I copied from Ktrasler in this thread:
Week Numbers
Public Function MyWeek(DateArg As Date) As Byte
Const BaseDate = "30/12/2001"
DateArg = CDate(DateArg) - (Weekday(DateArg) - 1)
MyWeek = Int(((DateArg - CDate(BaseDate)) / 7) Mod 52)
If MyWeek = 0 Then MyWeek = 52
End Function
I know how to pass variables to Functions, and tried this one out & it worked splendidly for my needs, but how do I take the value of "MyWeek" and use it in the subroutine that I am calling it from?
How do you use the result of the "Address" function as ranges for other formulas?
I have 2 cells A1 and A2, each containing an "Address" function to find the start cell and end cell of a range.
A1 shows the result "$J$6" and A2 "$AB$6". These are working fine:
A1: =ADDRESS(ROW($A6),MATCH(HLOOKUP('cleaned up'!$I$2,pivot03!$2:$2,1,FALSE),$2:$2,0),1)
A2: =ADDRESS(ROW($A6),MATCH(HLOOKUP('cleaned up'!$I$5,pivot03!$2:$2,1,FALSE),$2:$2,0),1)
I want to get the average of this range using cells A1 and A2, but Excel treats the formula as an error: =Average(A1:A2) shows the error #DIV/0!
Going back one step and putting the formulas within cells A1 and A2 into the average formula doesn't work at all with a colon:.....................
i have the formula "= sum(A1:A10)" in cell A4 & would like to call macro when the value changes. The code i'm using below work's if I manually type in a value, but isn't working with the formula.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
' Checks for cell value change
If Intersect(Target, Range("A4")) Is Nothing Then
Exit Sub
' If cell value change, calls msgbox based on criteria
Else
If Range("E4").Value = "C" And Range("A4").Value > "30" Then
Call MsgBox1
End If
If Range("E4").Value = "F" And Range("A4").Value > "38" Then
Call MsgBox2
End If
End If
End Sub
I am having trouble with some formulas displaying the results of the logical test as words.. For example.
=IF(E4>F4,100, IF(F4>E4, 200))
That works perfectly but I want "100" to be "Valid" and "200" to be "Invalid"
However...
=IF(E4>F4,Valid, IF(F4>E4, Invalid))
only results in the #NAME? error for me?
I am trying to sum the details from sheet2 in sheet3. I am currently using a plain formula to sum-up the values. However, create a indirect and vlookup function to sum the values.
In sheet3, I have to sum the values from sheet2 based on the contacts. Sheet1, sheet2 and Sheet3 are connected and any update(insert,delete.. etc) will be made in sheet 1 only. Sheet2 automatically updates based on sheet1. Similarly, Sheet3 should also update based on sheet1 and sum the values based on contacts from sheet2.
I have added the formula which I am currently using in the sheet.
I have a macro that loops through a column of cells to retrieve a price that is buried in a string. The cells in this column are formatted one of two ways. Either they are completely empty, or the following pattern of string is entered: "$181.27 ea. for 12 on 5/21/14" (the quotes are not part of the string entered). What I need my macro to do is pull out "$181.27" and then drop the dollar sign and then do some more math before inputting a result in a different cell, but the prices range from less than a dollar to over $100,000 so I need to use split instead of left. Should be simple, yes? Here is what I have:
[Code] ......
But I get an error 9: subscript out of range on the line that calculates PriceSplit whenever it encounters a blank cell.
I have a problem with VLOOKUP function and I am looking for a workaround.
SheetA I have a column of business names and another column of the category.
SheetB has a list of credit card transactions and a column of categories - The results obtained from incorrect results from SheetA...
I'm trying to have three different possible results from one formula based on one cell.
If A1 is greater than 10 I want B1 show 5, AND if A1 is less than -10 I want B1 to show -5, AND if A1 is between 9 and -9 I want B1 to show the value of A1/2.
I've never used logic functions in excel before.
I am forecasting some numbers and I wanted to see which function would be best suited for my task. I used the TREND function and then the FORECAST, I was expecting the same results but appeared to have slight differences.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing data of unknown origin in Excel I found Isblank was giving a FALSE result on some apparently blank cells while giving a TRUE result on others.
Even if I used TRIM and CLEAN functions on the offending data and pasted the resulting values back the the original locations, the Isblank result was still FALSE. Also, the font colour was not set to white or transparent.
However, if I selected the cell with the 'invisible' data, clicked in the Formula Bar and pressed Enter without entering any new data, the problem disappeared for that cell. The problem also disappeared if I selected the problem 'blank' cell and pressed delete.
Can anyone explain this 'invisible data' and tell me how I can detect it using a function or formula?
graphing trigonometric functions...
sin and cos seem to work easily, but i'm having trouble getting the tangent function to graph (look) correctly...?
how to put together a function that will provide for me 1 of 3 results, (0, 1 or 2). Example Attached.
What I would like to do is have a function to have the results for the "Pts" (D) Column be either 0, 1 or 2 based on the following.
PM (D)<1.84 (F:10) = 2
PM (D)<2.25 (E:10), >1.84 (F:10) = 1
PM (D)>2.25 (E:10) = 0
I am attempting to get an INDEX function with multiple "IF" statements to return more than one result. Building multiple IF statements. That portion of the below formula works. However, I can only get the INDEX formula to return the first, single result.
Formula:
=IFERROR(INDEX(Func_Area,SMALL(IF(Const_Start<=DATE(YEAR($B$2),MONTH($B$2),DAY($B$2)), IF(Cost_End>=DATE(YEAR($C$2),MONTH($C$2),DAY($C$2)),ROW(Func_Area)-MIN(ROW(Func_Area))+1,"")),ROWS($A$4:A4)))," ")
Func_Area,Const_Start,Cost_End are all Named Ranges on Sheet "Proposed". My intention is to return a list of projects on Sheet Test1 for all projects starting construction after a certain date and completing construction before a certain date. I suspect something in my ROWS fuction or ROW-MIN+1 is wrong.
This formula returns the first result in the first row, but every subsequent row is blank...see attached spreadsheet.
In the attached file I used =MATCH(TRUE,INDEX($B$2:$B$10="",0)) to retrieve the location of the first empty cell.
When using the "Evaluate Formula" tool, it is clear that the position in the array created by the INDEX function is the 6th. Nevertheless, the final outcome is 9, being the last cell in range.
