I have a worksheet (Sheet1) that is constantly growing with information. I have several categories under the "Category" column and then the various amounts under "Amount" column. I would like to have Sheet2 be able to keep a running total of the "Amount" column for each category as it increases in entries. I've attached an example sheet.

I have a spread sheet which totals the amounts in 2 columns D and E, which are pounds and pence. The formulas for each one are:
Pounds
=SUM(D3:D8)+ROUNDDOWN((SUM(E3:E8)/100),0)
Pence
=MOD(SUM(E3:E8),100)
These work very well and give me the correct figures.
What I would like to do is to add up the values of each row based on the criteria of column C and have just one value in ONE cell (as shown on lines 13 & 14), so for instance:
When added together the values of rows 3,4 & 6 are 7.25 (based on a value of "W")When added together the values of rows 7 & 8 are 5.00 (based on a value of "F")

I would like a formula that adds all the January numbers together returning a result of 5249
To move this one step further i would eventually need to add these numbers based on quarters, for example if the value is January February or March in column 1 then add the numbers in column 2.
I'm sure i have done this before using a countifs maybe but my mind has drawn a blank

Here is some context
Each one of these rows represents an entry into a ticket in our incident management system. Col4 represents the method by which the incident was reported to us (Email, Voicemail, Walk In, Ask IT). A ticket can be open and closed with a single entry if the issue is easily solved or it can have many entries if the issue is complex and requires more troubleshooting or escalation to a higher tier of support. I need to determine the number of unique tickets submitted by each reporting avenue (Email, Voicemail, Walk In, Ask IT).
In this table the number of tickets that were:

What I need is a formula that will produce this result.
Autofill column B with sequential values based on whether value in column A changes its value.
I would like to autofill column 'B' with sequential values (i.e. GenoMap1, Genomap2, Genomap3,... GenoMap10, GenoMap11, GenoMap12,... GenoMap104, GenoMap105, etc...), but changing to the sequential GenoMap# only when the value in column A changes.
This is what I imagine.

I am trying to create an inventory control system that keeps tracks of what's in bins based on additions and subtractions to the bin. I am hoping to generate a summary output of bin contents based on the transaction list. I know how to do this using pivot tables, but am looking for a VBA or excel function solution since I will have hundreds of bins and thousands of transactions.

This is a simple one, for someone who is smarter than I. I need to add a column but omit the rows that are blank or has a zero value in either row C or D. In other words I want to add every row in column C if there is a value in row C&D of that item. Attached is a small example.

I have a column that has subcategories, and I would like to create a new column that would group those subcategories into categories.
Is there a formula that once it detects a certain word in the subcategory should give a certain category name that I choose?
I am trying to sum certain values in one column based on the values of another column. I made a few tables, generated some random numbers, and then I started writing up an if-then statement to see if I could get what I am trying to do to work. However, I was having difficulty getting the program to run, because I was declaring more than one variable (I think).
So for instance, I want cells in column G to sum forces in column C when a joint in column E matches a joint in column A. Similarly, I am trying to do the same thing for columns F and B.
I have attached a picture, which shows what I would like for the program to do automatically (rather than me doing it all manually)! I didn't include the code I wrote, because it was so minimal

I'm currently working on a spreadsheet that contains 30,000 leads and their respective companies and i need to filter out any leads that work for companies present in a different list of companies (1,834 companies). Basically, i need to filter column A so that it only contains companies present in column B. Is there a way to do this using the advanced filter?

As each employee enters the data for their name, activity and hours these values are saved to sheet6 starting at A10, B10 and C10. I want to be able to sum the hours for each employee who enters data. So the completed user form could look like the following:

So as you can see there could be a blank cell in column

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an excel file with some data in it. I have two columns with one of four words in it. For simplicity I'll call them RED, GREEN, BLUE, and Yellow. A few columns over I have columns "Same" "Good" and "Bad". I'm trying to figure out a way to get excel to put a 1 in the appropriate column, if cell A1 is Red I need excel to look at the word in cell B2 and put a 1 in the "same" column if A1 and B1 are the same word. If the word in B2 is Yellow I need excel to put a 1 in the "Good" column. If the word in B1 is GREEN or BLUE I need it to put a 1 in the bad column. The tricky part is each of the four words RED, GREEN, BLUE, and Yellow have a different set of words that will be called "good" or "bad". So if the word in cell A1 if Green for example it will have a different set of good and bad color words.
So it seems I need four different functions depending on what word is in A1. In the column next to these lists of words I have the date which I'll need to use to give me the sums of same, good, and bad for each day. But first things first. I think I need to use a combination of IF functions and MATCH function, but I can't figure out anything that works. Below is what I'm hoping it will look like when I've got the right formulas.

I have included my budget so helpers can see it. I am trying creating a formula on mini-dashboard on A8 (Under the total budgeted amount) that will check the total budgeted amount based on the values I enter on the categories sheet. Of course it will be controlled using the drop down menu on A2 on mini-dashboard. I thought I had this working with a sumif function but it seems to have quit working.

At the end of the column is a sum formula.
At the end of each month the client wants to 'reset' all the $ amounts back to $0.00
Is there a macro that would reset the column of $'s back to $0.00 without removing the formulas like ClearContents does?
I needed to match the width a merged area of seven columns to a single column width (for row autofitting). Adding the column unit values and setting the single column to that value produced a significantly narrower width.
The documentation mentions that the column width unit is scaled to the font type and size and the absolute width is given in points.
This is set by the normal style setting in Excel Options or by VBA application.standardfontsize = 8 (in this case).
For instance, ten columns of Arial font 8 at 8.5 units you would think to be equivalent to a single column of 85 units.
In points, the difference is 420 vs. 386.25, or 33.75 points.
Well, the standard character zero has a width at this setting of 4.5 points and 1 unit is 8.25 points, leaving 3.75 points for margins.
Then (10-1) margins allowances time 3.75 points resolves the difference.
Determining the margin allowances is straightforward, and reveals that the gradation with size is stepped by MS design.
For instance, sizes up to 11 use 3.75 points for margins and increasing points for characters (except between 9 & 10).
Sizes 12 through 18 use 5.25 points, 20 & 22 use 6.75, 24 & 26 use 8.25, etc.
I have created a table for this purpose, however I rarely use a "normal" other than 8, so I can probably use that set in programming.

I want to compare A1 for the values in column B, then return the corresponding cell (column C) in column D.

I want a cell on one spreadsheet (SP-A) to add up a column (M) in another spreadsheet (SP-B) rows 11 through 10000.
Here's the thing, I want that cell to actually display not the sum that it gets but that sum minus all numbers (in M column again) which column E is filled out with any data for their given row...
i'm not even sure if this makes sense lol... let me use example
on SP-B there's a column M.
in row 11, value = 3
in row 12, value = 5, in this same row column E is filled with whatever
in row 13, value = 2, in this same row column E is filled with whatever
in row 14, value = 6
in my SP-A I need the cell to display 9, since rows 12 and 13 have values in E and I don't want to add those to the sum.
