I have a routine that looks a variable's first letter and then assigns it to a specific folder. I have tried using just the first letter (firstletter) and the ASCII value of the first letter but neither seem to work - see below.
firstletter = Left(rng.Value, 1)
iletter = Asc(firstletter)
MsgBox iletter
If iletter < 71 Then cmfolder = "CM A-F" Else
If iletter > 70 And iletter < 77 Then cmfolder = "CM G - L" Else
If iletter > 76 And iletter < 83 Then cmfolder = "CM M - R" Else cmfolder = "CM S - Z"
MsgBox cmfolder
Need to write a formula that would assign a letter grade (in row W) to the average in row V, based on the school's scale. So, row V contains my averages (in % form) and I want row W to have the letter equivalents.
Newbie here. I have a very frustrating problem. I am using excel for my gradebook at school. I've tried several different ways to assign a letter grade to an number average. It works fine each different way I do it, VLOOKUP, IF, etc. But, I have about 5 grades out of 100 which give the wrong letter grade. For instance, my scale says that a grade of 85 should be lowest limit of a "B", but I get a "C" returned in the cell instead. Like I said, it only happens on a few grades. The biggest majority work fine. I can't figure out why. Any ideas? Attached is one of the "problems" with a student's grades. Note the Final Avg with a grade of "C", it should be "B".
I have figured out how to assign a letter grade to a number, but am having trouble assigning it the other way, a number to a letter grade. For instance: If a student gets an A, I want the column next to it to indicate that the A represents a 4; a B represents a 3; a C represents a 2; D a 1; and F a 0. This will allow an easy grade point average calculation.
A 4 History C 2 Math A 4 English B 3 Physical Ed D 1 Science
I have a formula that counts all instances of the letters a, b and c in a range and assigns them a value of 1 unless they are in the M column in which case a, b or c counts 4.
This worked well but now I need to modify the weightings across this range. My new goal is to count all instances of a,b and c in the range J2:AB2 but have M column a,b, c's = 2 and N:R column a,b,c's equalling 4. Letters other than a,b or c count as 0.
I have some delivery ratings from suppliers, and I want to assign a specific letter to each rating, depending of the obtained number. Criteria is:.........
For the below formula is it possible to replace the B's (column location) with a cell Say Z146 which contains the letter B (or a number if thats easier and someone can tell me the numbers for each column).
When the formula is dragged into the next cell (down) it takes its column reference from Z147 and then my life becomes so much easier.
I have a list of names and prices as shown in two columns as a master list:
Apple and Lime 3,5 Assam 2,5 Chamomile Flowers 2,5 Chamomile Lemongrass3,5 Chilli mint 3,5 (the list is a lot longer than this!)
I have created a pick list using data validation to pick any of the names to insert elsewhere in the spread sheet. How can i get the next cell adjacent to this name to search and input the corresponding price?
1. Start Date (Col. C) - assign date to respective position based on first cell that contains value greater than 0 or "". eg. at first cell with 1 in it, looks up to row 4 and assigns date include in that cell in same column.
2. End Date (Col. D) - assigns date based on last cell with value greater than 0 or ""....
I need to write an excel function/macro/code to assign yes or no to a cell if the Description fits a certain category. I have attached a sample workbook and will explain what I mean.
In the sample workbook, there is data on a company. This included a unique ID, city, state, and description. What I want to do is fill out the yes/no column. So if a particular company has 2 of the 4 necessary "Descriptions", then column G will return yes, otherwise No. It must return yes for a particular company/ID if 2 of the "Descriptions" are "Sale", "Service", "Business", or "Par". I only want it to count at least two unique descriptions.
For example, in the sample workbook, Company A has all 4 of the necessary descriptions, thus everything in column G for this specific client should be yes. For Company B, only 1 of the 4 descriptions matches, so it returns No for all Company 2 columns. Company C has 2 of 4, so it returns yes for these columns. Note, it doesn't matter for Company C that "Business" was listed twice. It only needs to count the first unique time that description occurs.
I have an excel spreadsheet that 7 different categories (eg. Ave waittime, Avg loadtime, etc) that I have conditionally formatted based on 5 ratings (each rating a different color Green, light green, yellow, red, and purple) I would like to be able to give each cell a value based on what color it is eg. Green=5, light green=4 and so on.
I have a "memo of meeting" excel document used to capture notes during client meetings. In this document there's a cell for "purpose", "agenda", and "notes". The 'consultation type' cell is a drop-down populated by values set in Sheet2. The 'agenda' & 'notes" cells are then populated with information (also stored in Sheet2) based on what drop-down option was chosen in the 'purpose' cell. I'm currently making this happen with basic =IF() statements; however, the problem is that by doing it this way, the =IF() statement must reside in the actual cell which will end up showing the data.
This is undesirable as there may be additional notes, agenda items, etc. that I'll need to add during the meeting and as it's currently setup, I can only have either the pre-populated info OR the ad-hoc notes - not both. It seems a simple fix. Maybe put the =IF() statement in a cell off to the side but have it "assign" the value to 'agenda'/'notes' but that doesn't seem to work.
I have three variables; Independent variables x & y, and dependent variable z. x & y can take the values 1,2,3 and can equal each other z can also take on values 1,2,3 but can never equal x or y. I tried using if/and statements to solve this (see below), but I would have to do it for each case and it exceeds Excels embedded function limit.
I'm looking for is a way to sum a bunch of numbers using a sum if statement that start with PRJ and are followed by any combination of five numbers. Like this
Sheet 2 contains a drop down list containing names, would like to assign a Macro to a button on same sheet that would refer to sheet 3 based on certain criteria.
Sheet 3 contains columns A - K of data. 2 criteria, data in column D and column K. Column D would be the same as names in the drop down list, whereas column K refers to a constant, either y or n.
Example: If D contains "Cheddar" and K contains "Y", copy and paste A:K to Sheet1, preferably starting at row 7.
I do have a data set from A1:C8 as follows:- Brand Name(A1)Sales Value(B1)Margin(C1)Levi's100002000Arrow150002500Allen Solly120001300Hanes80001000John Miller250004500Disney280003200Ray Ban180002100
The above brands are categorized as follows:- Brand NameProposed CategoryLevi'sConsignmentArrowBrandAllen SollyBrandHanesBrandJohn MillerPrivate LabelDisneyBrandRay BanConcessionaire
I would like to put formula from D1:D8 in such a way so that the Proposed categories are extracted automatically through formulae. This will help in getting the contribution calculated from different categories. I have two tables below. First table contains the list of domain names (given just for example, actual list may contain several more such Domain names) with the group names assigned to them. Second table shows the criteria for assigning them the group names:
My concern is to automate this process using a VBA code. How can I search for the keyword given in Table 2 in the first column of Table 1 and assign the group names as it is assigned currently, considering the below conditions and criteria.
1) The correct group name should be assigned to the Domain name containing the keyword given as per criteria in Table 2
2) It is possible that the domain name will include more than one keywords given in Table 2. For example Cell number A7 contains both keywords NCG and EXC, in such cases the preferance should be given to EXC and we will assign the group name as EEC. And in Cell number A12 also contains both NCG and DMZ, again the preferance should be given to DMZ and we have to assign group name as ETIS.
That means we will give second preference to keyword NCG. If domain name contains none of the keywords except NCG as per given criteria then only we will assign grup name DOSS.
I'd basically like a formula that finds a number (eg 220) within either the first 10 rows (or with row 5 if this isn't possible) and returns the column Letter as the result. The number will only appear once and only in one column. If it matters the columns go all the way to EC.
I have a long list of names and right now I have to scroll down the list like crazy to get to some of the letters (xyz for example).
I really wanted to setup a clickable row or column that has one letter in each row or column, but I'm not sure I can do that as the sheet is already formatted. But I could just use one cell where I could click in it and type a letter which would jump me to the portion of the list that starts with that letter.
or I guess maybe something that pops up a requestor for me to enter the letter.
I found some stuff that was close on here that had some of the functionality I needed, but I couldn't piece it together.
I'm trying to go through David's books, but I haven't had a lot of time and I'm not getting some of the basics.
I would like to have excel automatically fill an excel cell with a predefined list. For example, if you put the letter l it will automatically include the word large. This is like you do when you fill out a form online. See attachment
When I type a single lower case letter into a cell, what formula or conditional formatting should I use to always convert it to a capital letter automatically?
So I have this list (I made it a little bit shorter).
So what you see is two different tasks (01 and 02) and three different conditions (A, B and C). In column B you see the result I would like to have. '/Searchtask_01.html' in A1 belongs to conditions A, because it is in session A. However, '/Searchtask_01.html' in A10 belongs to conditions B, because it is in session B.
I tried to search the forum with the above title but keep getting a fatal error. My worksheet contains a data entry column that is verified against a named range entitled "Categories". If you click on the down arrow, it displays all the valid entries. What I'd like to do is enter in the field the first letter of the entry and display only those valid entries that start with the letter I entered. For example, if I entered "c", the validation screen would display:
Car Insurance Car Payment Car Repair/Tires Charity Chase Mortgage Church Cleaning Supplies Cleaning/Laundry Contact Lens Cosmetics
Then, if I entered "ch", the validation screen would display:
Its really hard to explain. See the attached.. Basically I have kind of a database of Letters and each letter has several codes associated with it, although each letter is different (a few are the same but that's irrelevant), e.g. letter E means you need to use codes 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.9, and 3.10. That information is stored elsewhere. I simply want a user to be able to put that letter into this box and next to it these codes will populate.
how to allow both these codes to work on say sheet 1. I can get one to work just fine. So, any tips on how to get them both to work on the same sheet would be great.

Range) With Worksheets("Sheet1") If Not Application.Intersect(Target, .Range("n1:n200")) Is Nothing Then If Target = "S" Or Target = "s" Then Target = "Submitted" If Target = "A" Or Target = "a" Then Target = "Approved" If Target = "I" Or Target = "i" Then Target = "Investgating" Else End If End With End Sub
I want to randomly select letters from this distribution (to make random words) but I want the more frequent letters in the distribution to be selected more often so that the word I form have the same distribution. I have the feeling there is a simple solution to this but I couldn't see anything other than the frequency function that I thought I might be able to use. I could populate an array with letters present in numbers according to their frequency and then randomly select from it but is there a more elegant solution? .......
