I'm simply inputting zeroes and ones down Column A. Basically, I either put a "0" or a "1" in A1, then A2, then A3, etc. However, I want to create a Macro that allows me to simply type in a string of 1's and 0's and it automatically takes each 1 and 0 and fills it in down the column. This website has the basic idea (Automatically Moving from Cell to Cell when Entering Data (Microsoft Excel)) but I need only one number per cell and for it to move down the column, not across the row. Here's what I have so far:
Sub SAMPLE() Dim str As String Dim x As Integer Dim y As Integer str = InputBox("Enter string") y = 0 For x = 1 To Len(str) Step 4 ActiveCell.Offset(y, 0) = "'" & Mid(str, x, 4) y = y + 1 Next End Sub
*I can't get it to only break down into one number per cell down Column A. I think the Mid function or something needs to change.
Here's the outline of my problem...I'm building a directory of hedge fund contacts and need help in cleaning data and automating the entry of fields that will remain the same. I have one workbook with 2 pages... One is for the Companies and the other is for the contacts that work at those companies.
ex. Company #551 is 1794 Management - on this page we have fields for address, floor, city, state, zip, phone, fax and website.
on worksheet 2 is where the contacts are kept... the identifier is #551... on the contacts page all contacts under a specific company number will correspond to that company.
Here's where it gets tricky.... for the contacts the addresses are all formatted differently - first I'd like to sort by management co and address and have excel copy the first listed address format and copy this to the other contacts for that company.... when the formula reaches the next contact with company #552 it will look for the new first address and use this one for all that companies contacts.
after the formula finishes the fomating I'd like the sheet to become intuitive( dont know if this can be done but what I'm looking for is say when I add a new row and enter #551 as a company and enter the new first name, last name, and job title - if the excel sheet noticing that all contacts under that format have the same address, phone, fax, company name etc...
I'm looking for a formula that when copied down in row D would automatically fill in what is in colum D above if columns A:C match.
So,
If A25:C25=A1:C24 (for example A25:C25 = A8:C8) then D25 will automatically fill in the content of D8. Then next it would be A26:C26 match A1:A25 and so on.....
I have previously used an Excel file - created by someone else - which had pre-entered data. It was set up in such a way that if I typed a person's ID number into a cell, their name popped into the following cell. I know that the names and IDs were pre-entered somewhere else - in another sheet? In a file linked some other way?
What is this called? How do I do it? I want to end up with a file where I can type a department code into one column and have the department NAME pop up in the following column. I am mostly doing this as a time- saving measure when completing long lists of supplies being distributed to different departments (long story.) If anyone can even tell me what this is called, so I can look it up correctly, that would be... sublime.
I want to make things easier for myself when filling in my worksheets by having certain cells autofill based on a product number.
So I have my main worksheet and I have my product information sheet. When I type in the product number in cell 13C, I want it to auto fill cell 13B with the product name which is located in collumn A on the product info sheet, but dependent upon that product number. Collumn B in my product info sheet has all of the product numbers. From there I would need 13G on my main worksheet to fill in with Collumn D from the product sheet, but again dependent upon that product number.
There are more that need to fill yet, but I can figure out what to do once I have a starting point with the above I believe.
Here is what I am trying to do with no luck so far.
If I type RS23U1R109000 in a cell A1, I want B1 to read the 5th letter or number and fill B1 with E86.
Example A1= RS23U1R109000 B1=E86 A1= RS23V1R109000 B1=E87 A1= RS23R1R109000 B1=E84
As you can see in my example, the 5th letter could be U,V,R or whatever, but I need cell B1 to read that letter and populate B1 with E86, E87, E84 or whatever.
I have a sheet with column A. This column A contains numbers from 1 number to 6 numbers.
So, one cell can have a '1' or a '999999' or any combination between them. Now this is the problem.
I want a formula that will fill those cells that don't contain a number up to 6 digits. So if a cell contains '254' I will like this formula to fill the cell like this: 000254.
This should happen with any number that don't have a number with six digits.
78 should be 000078, 78652 should be 078652 and so on.
What I would like to do is to take the name values in column B and fill that into the region of blank cells below. I know that a special cells function could probably do this paired with a looping structure. I'm new to VBA and am trying to learn it so that I can use it comfortably.
I have two obscure Files and I want certain information from each file.
I started by importing the data on seperate worksheets.
and I wanted to make a table basically summerizing the info on a third worksheet
On a third Worksheet i wanted to reference from those files in a table as i mentioned. So i started referencing the cells that contain the data for the first line and second line and i wanted to fill the series so I wouldn't have to type the info into Excel (like =C8)
uhm to summerize the following::
the two files are a players file (which has there specific team and player name) and a stats file (which has there corresponding stats). So i have the following
Year Team League GP G A Pts PIM +/- 2011-12 Swift Current Broncos WHL 82 5 22 27 128 10
the cell references are
for the stats worksheet
C8, D8, E8, J9, I9 (GP,G,A,PIM,+/-) Pts is just an add
and the next line would be 25 plus the cell references (so like C33)
i would like to fill it all the way down the page for about 1000 players
but it didn't work for me - the next line was C12, C27 etc...
I have a spreadsheet that will eventually consist of tens of thousands of rows. Several columns contain formula's. Rather than having to "highlight" a cell and then "drag" all the way down the column over thousands of rows before finally using the "fill down" function I am needing a method to short cut this process?
Is there a function that allows you to, say, nominate a range of cells that you can fill down over? For example, starting from the last row with data entered into it down to say row 12500 i.e. D22:D12500.
I have the below formula working correctly. However the issue is when it pastes and fills down values its using H1 reference in the formula even when it goes to the next column. So basically when it goes to cell I2 it should update the sumifs formula to lookup I1 instead of H1 and so on and so forth for all columns till the loop stops.
VB: Sheet1.Activate Dim frmla As String frmla = "=SUMIFS($C:$C,$A:$A,H$1,$B:$B,$G2)" Range("H2").Activate Do Until ActiveCell.Offset(-1, 0) = "" ActiveCell = frmla ActiveCell.Offset(0, -1).End(xlDown).Offset(0, 1).Activate Range(ActiveCell, ActiveCell.End(xlUp)).Select Selection.FillDown ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Activate
I need a VBA macro for filling the blank cells in whole column "D" with some conditions.This condition work for whole column.
ABCDCN EA Polymer
DE MA Polymer Medium CN EA Polymer
Fill the blank cell in D column with "Easy", if Column A is "CN" and column B is "EA" Fill the blank cell in D column with "Medium", if column A is "DE" and column B is "MA".
After Run the macro: i.e ABCDCN EA Polymer Easy DE MA Polymer Medium CN EA Polymer Easy
I was used "if" condition but I can't able to run.
I have a button event coded to select and ultimately fill a range of cells with the intent of representing a timeline of payment periods.
Private Sub Timeline_Click() Dim x As Integer, y As Integer, cell As Range x = 1
[Code]....
The first row needs to be filled with numbers from 1 to the value of [D20]; E.g. if D20=10 then there would be 10 columns selected then filled 1 through 10.The second row needs to be similarly filled with ascending Y values; E.g. D13 = 4, D20=8: row 2{.5,1.0,1.5...}
1) 4 values contains in each row based on the values from those cells the max value will display.
2) if more than 2 cells have empty,NR or NA text means the entire row has to delete.
3) if 2 or more that means 3 cells having values the empty cell,NR or NA cell will place value with the condition of macro that is 75% of other values which is maximum among them.
The range of cells in column B containing the items has a name "ColStreams"
I need to go through the list, filling in each blank cells with the value contained in the first non-blank cell above it - so, in this case, rows 6 and 7 would contain "Item 2", row 9 would contain "Item 3", rows 11-13 would contain "Item 4" and so on.
I want to enter the word 'Closed' in cell B1 when the due date in cell A1 is exceeded by 272 days. I have tried using conditional formatting and excel accepts the formula but nothing seems to happen. Here is what I have tried;
I am trying to find some VBA that will allow protected cells to be updated when a user enters or selects data in other cells.
For example:
Cell 'A1' starts out blank. Cell 'B1' has a drop down to select specific items. Cell 'C1' is the date of the order and is a locked cell. Cell 'D1' is the date of completion and is a locked cell. The worksheet is protected to prevent direct changes to cells C1 and D1.
If a user enters any information in A1, then C1 displays the current date. If a user selects 'Complete' from the drop-down list in B1, then D1 displays the current date. Both of these actions are independant of one another. This format is the same for every cell in the 4 columns indicated above. I thought I was able to do this in another spreadsheet I created a year or so ago but I have not been able to figure out what I did and I do not have the spreadsheet to look at.
"A" in cell A1, B in B1, "C" in C1, "D" in D1, "E" in E1 and "F" in F1.
There are two projects.
Project 1 has phase A, D & F and Project 2 has phase A, B, C, D & E.
My Specification follows...
1). Take Prject 1 - Which starts from A...in cell A2 I will keyin "A". When the phase comes to an end I will key in the end date of the phase. As soon as I key in the end date in cell A2 Letter D should automatically appear in the cell D2 and when Phase D comes to an end I will key in the end date in Cell D2 which should automatically keyin F in the cell F2. and is the same case for Project 2.
I have a spreadsheet with 6 hidden columns (B to G). Rows 1 to 14 are frozen and have data that comes from another work book and these rows will be protected. The user will enter data from H14 to U14 and then H15 to U15 for the next row and so on down the sheet. The number of rows of data over a week is variable, a minimum of 21 rows (3 per day) but no maximum.
When the user starts entering new data in the column range H to U I would like to automatically populate the 6 hidden cells on that row with information from particular cells in protected rows 1 to 14. For example B14 would populate with the value from I4, C14 would populate with the value from I5, D14 from I6, E14 from I7 and so on whenever someone enters a value anywhere from H14 through to U14.
I can understand that a worksheet change event would be useful to do this but I guess then it wouldn't want to run every time each cell is populated so I think if it had to activate on a single cell change then the cell in column L would be best. Also, as I understand it, there can be only one block of code per sheet that operates on a worksheet change event, have I got that right? If that is the case then I assume all the code to populate the hidden cells on each row will need to be in this block of code.
Im writing a spreadsheet that will act as a hotel room booking diary. There will be 52 sheets (representing each week of the year) and each sheet will therefore represent one week
Each sheet will look at operate the same. Running horizontally will be the days of the week and running vertically will be each of the bedrooms. There are 22 bedrooms in total and each room will have 12 cells allotted to it for each day - lets call this a 'block' and presume that the first block runs from C10 to c21. The final of these cells C21 will have a validation and the user can select 'PAID' 'TO PAY' or 'INVOICED'
If the user selects 'PAID' in C21 I want cells C10 through to C21 to shade GREEN If the user selects 'TO PAY' in C21 I want cells C10 through to C21 to shade RED If the user selects 'INVOICE' in C21 I want cells C10 through to C21 to shade YELLOW
I have a table of information on a worksheet and one of the columns determines whether the item in that row is active (there will be active and inactive items in this "Main List")
On a seperate worksheet (in the same file) I want to only display the active items in a new table (Overview) and always ensure it has no empy spaces other than at the bottom of the list, so if row 1/2 in the Main List are inactive items then the first row in the Overview List would display row 3 from the Main List.
Ideally I would rather do it in a formula than VB if possible.
I've attached a file showing what I am trying to explain, where the Overview tab currently has the data typed in it should automatically populate based on column "I" on the MainList tab.
I want to be able to have a macro that will compare one cell to the rest of the cells in a collum. I have used the COUNTIF() formula and it's getting on my nerves a bit because it seems as though everytime i sort the data, it totally messes up the formula (as in it changes the cell refernces to seemingly randomly generated numbers, but that is a different matter! lol). here is the formula, and it will be followed by the formula that is in the cell directly below it: =COUNTIF(F2:F65536, F2) and the one below it: =COUNTIF(F2:F65536, F3). Only one number needs to change, but when i fill down in excell, it wants to add one to every number, even when i click COPY cells... oh well. So i want to write this macro that will do just that. That way, it has fixed reference parameters e.g. F2:F65536, and one variable parameter e.g. F2, F3, F4 and so on. I'm not too savvy with this whole VBA stuff... the university insisted that everyone uses C++ nowadays, lol. I would like this macro to output its data into an adjacent cell ex. if F2 was compared, the data will be placed in H2.
