I am trying to find a way to average all the numbers placed in one cell with the answer in another.

So in cell A1

1, 2, 3, 2 or 1-2-3-2

In cell A2 would be 2. But the amount of numbers in A1 will vary from time to time.

I have a volume of liquid made from beer and glucose. I know the specific gravity (SG) of beer on its own and glucose on its own and I know the volume and SG of the mixture. What I need to calculate is the volumes of beer and glucose that make up the mixture.

Volume
SG

Beer

0.998

Glucose

1.350

And by putting figures into B2 and B3 that add up to B4 I can eventually find the numbers that multiplied with their SG and added together equal E4, as in the spreadsheet above. Is there a formula from the information on hand that can just tell me the volumes of beer and glucose that were used to make the volume of mixture at that SG?

Calculating Dates And Numbers

I am starting a project that will involve finding how old people are using the difference of two years. Cell A1 will contain the function that automatically obtains the current year from the PC clock (or a manual input). Cells B1...B6 will contain text (names). Cells C1...C6 will contain the month of their birth. Cell D1...D6 will contain the day of their birth. And cells E1...E6 will contain the year of their birth. Cells F1...F6 will have the formula to calculate the difference between A1 and its respective cell column E.

The only functions I know are =(TODAY) which does not give me just the year. Also, I do not know how I would be able to do the calculation [e.i., =(TODAY) - 1988].

I got three columns. The left one is the day number. The middle column is for indicator variables 1 or 0. This is suppose to be chosen by the solver function. I want the third column to show the DIFFERENCE between the "chosen" days. This can be better explained through an example:.......

(extra information: the indicator values are chosen by solver based on several criteria not stated here, but this particular part of the sheet is suppose to refrain the chosen days to have differences between them larger or smaller than a given value.

Calculating Numbers Of Specific Dates Within A List Of Ranges

One of the spreadsheets we have here keeps track of reservations booked in the following way.

The date in F is the check in date and the date in Column G is the check out date.

There is another spreadsheet in the same workbook that counts the dates that these people are checked in.

For example:

As you can see column B7 has one room because of the fact that the reservation check in of F1 started on the Fifth of January

B8 is Three because reservations 1-3 are checked in on the sixth of January

B9 is 2 because reservations 1-2 are checked in on the seventh of January

B10 is 1 because reservation 2 is checked in on the eighth of January

Please note that F4:G4 does not count on this worksheet due to the fact that they checked out on the same day as check in.

I would love any help you could give on this confusing subject.

I'm going to be using a spreadsheet to keep track of where different people are at. So if Person 1 is in Room 3, I will stick a 3 in the box next to their name and then can look at the spreadsheet whenever I need and see what room they are in. When I'm deciding what room to put a person in, though, I need to be able to quickly glance at a list of Room #'s and see what one's are still available. So I have a bank of Room #'s in the spreadsheet....1,2,3, etc.

What I'd like, is some way to set this up so that when I put, for example, "3" in the cell next to "Person 1" the spreadsheet automatically removes "3" from the bank of available Room #'s and when I delete the "3" because the person has left, it adds "3" back to the bank of available Rooms.

and I require the ranges of reference numbers to be listed in a column one above the other, which requires inserting new rows. I also need the date & description columns copied down into the newly inserted rows.

So basically for example I would want the top row to now read:

and then apply the same procedure to the other ranges below this.

I have a cell that shows the PENDING time from a future event date/time vs Today

eg.
Cell L4 shows the future date/time as 2/2/2013 09:40:00
Cell AM9 shows the current date/time as 02/02/13 09:36:01

Cell N2 contains =IF((L4-AM9)>0,(L4-AM9),"CLOSED")
which either shows the time before expiry as hh:mm:ss or closed

There is another cell (say O2) which is a link to another workbook which either shows NO or YES

What I want to do is to populate another cell with the DELAYED TIME between when cell N2 changes to CLOSED and when cell O2 changes to YES

But I only want to to populate this cell once, at the moment it keeps being updated from Today

I have the following on a spreadsheet that keeps track of when student work is handed in and calculates how many days late it is so a penalty mark can be given.

A1= User entered value : a fixed submission date that a piece of work is due to be handed in on.
A2 = User entered value : The date entered if work is handed in on time or early
A3 = User entered value : The date the work was handed in if late
A4 = User entered value : The date the piece of work is due to be handed in if an extension has been granted
A5 = Calculated value : How many days late a piece of work is

Essentially I want the calculation in A5 to reflect how many days late a piece of work is. SUM(A3-A1) would do this of course. If the work is early or on time, A2 is ignored.

Sometimes however students have permission to hand work in late, in which case another calculation is needed to work out how many (if any) days over their extension date (A4) their work is. How do I combine these two calculations into the same cell, so that if A3 is empty it checks A4 to see if the student has an extension date and then returns a 'days late' value if applicable?

The column of formulas needs to insert a new column and add formulas to it in the next location. Ie (B4:B16 to C4:C16). B4 Being the heading/sheet name.

OK I have included the spreadsheet I am working with and I will try really hard to explain exactly what i want and where my problems lie, so please bear with me.

The work book is separated by months. The individual spreadsheets can have multiple entries in each cell, I have a code running to automatically pop up a comment text box for each entry into that cell to separate each occurrence.

Now I have a separate sheet that will be showing how many times each item has a "hit" or occurrence for the entire month. That's where I have the problem. I don't want to go and count every time i made an entry, excel should do that. The problem I am coming up with is that I can only get it to calculate the one occurrence per cell which does me no good if there were three separate occurrences in that cell.

Calculating Total Based On Cell Contents

I'd like excel to calculate 3 totals for me based on the colour and value on a worksheet.

Basically, I work for various people and they pay at different rates per hour.
I currently have a spreadsheet with their names, times, and rates (see attached for example), but I calculate the amounts paid and due manually.
If possible I would now like excel to do it.

To explain further, 'J' gives me $10 per hour, and 'V' gives me $5 per hour.
Cells shown in red show work done but not paid for.
Cells shown in green show work done and paid for.

I'd like excel to automatically create totals as shown on the spreadsheet, namely:
Total due: xxxx
Total paid: xxxx
Total outstanding: xxxx

At any time during the month I can be asked to take on more work - I would then enter the code into the spreadsheet for the hours requested...and I'd like the totals to be update automatically.

Match (text) Numbers To Numbers From One Cell To Another

I need the " solutions cells " to match to the " source cells " and return a " yes " or " no ". in cells d4:d10. Ex: #1 cell C4=01234598, it will conduct a search & match of cell A5 which contains the number 123, since cell C4 contains all 3 numbers from cell A5, then the formula would result in a " Yes ". The match has to contain all 3 numbers from the solution cells to the source cells.

Ex: #2 cell C7=67891234, it will conduct a search & match of cell A8 =901. Since cell C7 only contains the 9&1 from cell A8, it would return a " No " because cell C7 did not contain all 3 numbers from cell A8. I'm not sure if the IF, Match, Index or Count formula is the right one to use, they all seem to partially work, but still don't complete this problem.

I am calculating blood sugars for my daughter and putting them in a spreadsheet. The formula is simple:

Blood sugar - target blood sugar / 20 which yields the amount of insulin that she needs to take. I want this cell to be blank unless I enter a value in the cell above it.

Next, I take the value from that formula and add it to the amount of insulin that she takes for eating.

The value in the top formula can be 0 or less, but, if the value in the bottom one is less than 0, I want the cell to be blank.

I have a daily report that gives a percentage based on what is typed into the "Supplier" and "Total Sales" columns but I'm having trouble writing the following formulas since my excel knowledge is relatively low.

1. Where a cell in the "Supplier" column says anything but "Den", "Burrowed" or "Studio Nyx" I need the "60%" and "40%" columns filled with the relevant formula (=B11*60% for example) and the "100%" column blank.

2. Additionally, if the cell contains "Den", "Burrowed" or "Studio Nyx" I need the "100%" column filled and the "60%" and "40%" blank.

Sheet1 is a list of names, then a few columns of numbers.
Sheet2 contains calculations based of the numbers in sheet1.

Each sheet from 2 on is names after the names in sheet1 column A...
A large cell at the top of each sheet contains the formula to display the sheet name:
=MID(CELL("filename",A1),FIND("]",CELL("filename",A1))+1,255)

So what I want to do now is...
in cell, look for the cell in sheet1, and display the value in the cell offset by X so i can bring the numbers from sheet1 over.

In plain english the cell would say like...
"look in sheet1 for "Name" then display the cell next to it"

I know to look in the next sheet its "=Base!B2" if i wanted b2 on sheet base.
I know to use "=OFFSET(Base!B2, , 1, , )" too look at B2 and go right 1 column.
But the issue is i dont want Base!B2.. i want whatever cell in Base column A that has the text that A1 has.

I am trying to do with data validation, trying to stay away from vba on this... and it is probably very simple:

Cell A1, they can select Rice, Cheese, or Rabbit
I want to use custom data validation on B1, so that if A1 = Rabbit, they can only enter 1. If it is blank or the other two choices, they can enter 1 through 10.

Can I do that with data validation? I can't get any if thens to work in it.

I'm trying to reference a location on a spreadsheet in a macro by using the values in two cells (the idea is to then paste to this location):

D2 is 17 (the row)
B4 is 2 (the column)

therefore the location is B17 (R17C2), but can I get this to work...? The values in these cells can change depending on selections made which is why I want to use the cell references rather than the absolute!

Place Several Numbers In Cell In Each Individual Cell?

I need a formula that will place the numbers in cell A into the cells in B C and D. The formula cannot be an array because for some reason my mac is very stubborn about arrays and I can't do them. If possible I would like each individual number to appear no more than once. That's why 4 and 3 only appear once.

It would also be nice if you could order them from smallest to greatest but if you can only do that with arrays then I suppose I can just get the same result with more clicks of the button.
