I have to prepare a monthly presentation for my company. I have all financial data in multiple tabs in excel that have been linked to many powerpoint slides.
The problem is, I update the same excel sheet every month and save it with a different name. How can I change the source in powerpoint to select and update all the slides with all the corresponding tabs.
At present, I use Edit link (ALT+E+K) > Select each slide on the powerpoint> Change source to new excelfile. When I select all the sheets, the "change source" greys out. Hence I have to do it individually.

I've recently aquired a spreadsheet previously maintained by someone else. After my initial review the speradsheet has many links that need to be updated, which I do via Edit-Links, but there are also some links that no longer need to exist. I have reviewed all sheets and some links just no longer exist, however when I try to break the link or change the source nothing happens. I have had the original owner also check and confirm and they have the same issue. Finally I tried copying all the tabs into a new workbook, but the link shows up again.

I have a periodic task which involves moving some sheets from an existing workbook and presenting it in a new workbook. There are some diagram that I move as well from the worksheet. However, I also move the source data for the diagrams into the new workbook as well. Everytime I do this I need to change the source data to the new worksheet which is quite tiresome. Is there a smart hack to actually point the diagram source data to the new workbook?

I have an Excel sheet that I use as a mailing automatism for reports. As it currently is it attaches an actual copy of the excel workbook to the email and send them out. The mailer contains several different people, and they get different report each day. Due to the size of some of the files, I am starting to run into an issue where I cannot sent the emails anymore because they are too big, so I am wanting to switch to sending links to the files instead, and I have hit a wall.
I use Lotus Notes 8.5. The VBA will cycle through a range, and each cell has a list of report delimited by a ",". It takes the list and passes it to the mailer as a string. The mailer takes the string, turns it into an array and splits it out, and then checks to make sure the reports are current. One email could have up to 10 different reports in it. I have tried creating an HTML MIME email to include the links.
Here is the code I currently have:
Code:
Sub Send_HTML_Email(ByRef Name As String, ByRef Address As String, ByRef Reports As String)
Const ENC_IDENTITY_8BIT = 1729
'Send Lotus Notes email containing links to files on local computer
Dim NSession As Object 'NotesSession
Dim NDatabase As Object 'NotesDatabase
Dim NStream As Object 'NotesStream
Dim NDoc As Object 'NotesDocument
[code]...

I am using Excel 2010 and have a workbook with two sheets - "Risks & Issues" which contains the source data and "Risks - Summary" which contains a Pivot Table called "Dashboard"
I would like to create a command button called 'Refresh Data' which will be on the "Risks - Summary" sheet. When I add a new line to the "Risks & Issues" sheet, I would click the button in "Risks - Summary" and it will update the Pivot Table range.
So far I've tried using some examples found on this site, although with no experience in VBA macros, I'm not really sure what they do; all I know is that they cause an error.
Code:
Sub Refresh_Click()
Sheets("Risks - Summary").PivotTables("Dashboard").SourceData = Sheets("Risks & Issues").Range("A2").CurrentRegion.Address(True, True, xlR1C1, True)
End Sub
[Code].....

I've go a shared Workbook, which will be distributed among several users and stored in different places. The workbook uses the following
Sub savemeas()
Worksheets("data").Visible = True
Sheets("data").Copy
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
ActiveWorkbook. SaveAs Filename:="d:" & Range("a1").Value, _
FileFormat:=xlText, CreateBackup:=False
Application.DisplayAlerts = True
ActiveWorkbook.Close SaveChanges:=True
End Sub
to save the sheet "data" as a text file with a name based on the value of cell a1. All I need is to modify the code so that the target path would not be
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="d:" & Range("a1").Value
but be the same as the source Workbook's - so that I wouldn't have to modify the code for each user separatly, because the sheet would alwayas be saved in the same folder as the current path of the source workbook.

Need to create Working order (in Excel 2007) for filling machine in my factory. Working order is changeable from day to day and the deference is product quantity. Product quantity in working order [File - Working order] is changing according to the each sales plan [7-Jan-13, 8-Jan-13] - (File Working order is Linked to the appropriate sales plan in this case - [7-Jan-13]).
Anyway, I need to change the source workbook "sales plan" from [7-Jan-13] to [8-Jan-13] by changing source workbook name in red cell [File - Working order] and not to browsing location?
All source workbooks [sales plan 7-Jan-13, 8-Jan-13]are at the same location in the same folder, only difference is the source workbook names. So, is it possible to change source workbook name (File - Working order - red cell) for all external references (File - Working order - green cells) at the same time, and avoid annoying browsing?

I was told by a colleague that there is a function in excel that allows me
to auto go to that linkd source. ie if I double click on Cell A1, I can
automatically go to Sheet"CorridorSelect-Input" Cell C5.

I have a spreadsheet in which I have several sheets, each of which has its own table populated by an SQL query that displays the data per sheet by customer name and then sorts by a status column that is either "open" or "closed" (Open in Descending order) and then sorts by created time (also in descending order). This table is 17 columns wide. Right next to this table, I have another 2 column table that is to be populated by hand. The problem is that the 2 tables don't talk to each other. For example:
If row 3 of table 1 contains an open action, then row 3 of table 2 will contain data pertaining to that action. If the action is closed via the database refresh, then it may move the action to row 10 now (as open is always shown at top) - however the data that was entered by hand in table 2 is still stuck in row 3.
find a way to make the 2 tables communicate and work together?
I cannot make it only 1 table as far as I can tell because the database refresh wipes out my additional manual columns every time.

Say I have Source Workbook X 1, and Destination Workbooks X 4. The Source workbook contains a number of lookup values. I want the lookup values to be maintained in the single Source workbook, and I want this workbook to remain closed when the end users are using their Destination workbooks. It is critical that certain cells in the Destination workbooks have validated data in order for formulas and summarizations to be correct.
I'm happy if the Destination workbooks contain a lookup worksheet (perhaps hidden). In short, I'd like the contents from the Source workbook, Lookups worksheet, to just be replicated "as is" into the Destination workbooks, Lookups worksheet. I then want to do my data validation from that worksheet, which of course is open (data validation appears to only work with open workbooks).
I've investigated the techniques in this link: [URL]
Questions:
1) Are the techniques in that link about the best approach? i.e. an external link plus array formulas?
2) A blank cell in the source workbook (text column but formatted as General) is resulting in a zero in the external link. How can I make the external link exactly match the text as entered in the source workbook?

to fix a .xls file that wasn't created by me.
In order to do that I need to change the path of an External Data that is an access 2003 file (.mdb file).
The only way that I imagine it is possible is to select a cell that is an adress for the query result, than click on properties and change it selecting the new path of file (the path moves depending on the user of the .xls).

I am trying to use the same VBA code for different applications using variables.
Basically I want to have a variables sheet that has the different directories based on the macro selection. My variable sourceloc would change based on the variable name on the sheet.
sometimes I would want it to equal what was in a1 and sometime I would want what was in a2
a1 cell contains "f:filezilla files
a2 cell contains "f:dmc files
This is the code I started and it gives compile error when ChDir = sourceloc is reached
Public sourceloc
Sub filezillasettings()
Dim sourceloc As String
sourceloc = ActiveSheet.[a1] ' a1 cell contains the directory name and folder name =
End Sub

I have a master workbook that is referencing data from several other workbooks whose file names are based on the years data was taken. In the master work book on any given sheet, I would like to be able change the data being used in the formula calculations by simply changing the year value in a single cell. By changing the date value, the formulas are directed from one data workbook to another.
e.g. in the master workbook in Sheet1, if you enter 2008 into cell A1, all of the formulas in Sheet1 now pull values from 2008.xls; if 2008 was replaced with 2009 in cell A1 on Sheet1 of the master workbook, then all of the formulas on Sheet1 would now pull values from 2009.xls.As I am completely new to VBA (bought my first book last night), I am looking for any help that is out there. I am not entirely new to programming (used C++ to write numerical simulations) but I have zero experience writing macros and the like.

My spreadsheet has multiple charts, each referencing a dynamic named range as its source data (e.g. "California1", "California2", etc). Each named range contains multiple series. I would like to make it easy for a single chart to quickly adjust to display different named ranges (e.g. view the chart with "California1" data, then update the same chart to view "California2" data).
I'd like to do this without having to right-click on the chart, select Source Data, and then type in "California2" as the Data Range. My question: is there a way to make the chart's Source Data Range dynamic so that I can quickly select the named range that I want to display? For example, would it be possible to tie the Data Range to a separate cell so that if I typed "California2" into that cell the chart would know to use that named range as its new source data?

Am currently working on an excel sheet that has values in multiple columns and rows. Simple example would be like
Assume two columns , with column One having a dropdown list to select the value ,
Pencil 2
Paper 3
Pencil 3
Eraser 3
Pencil 3
I want the data to be created in another sheet as
Pencil - 8
Paper - 3
Eraser - 3
I understand that this can be done through pivot table but the issue is when I change the quantity of the item in the source , say reduce pencil by 1 , the same should be reflected in the summation sheet as well automatically .

I have an 'in-cell dropdown' which looks up two values, Q1 and Q2 I have a range of data by month showing a specific number as below e.g
Month
Count
2012-01
120
2012-02
190
2012-03
200
2012-04
150
2013-05
175
I have a Line graph using this entire table as the source data. What I would like to do is only use part of the data based on what the dropdown cell specifies. For example, if it is set to "Q1", I would like just the 2012-01 and 2012-02 data to show in the graph. If its "Q2", I would like only 2013-03 and 2012-04 data to show in the graph.

I have extracted data from multiple sheets and now want to mark this data as "Paid" and for the macro to go back and change the value in the original sheet on a row in column "AR" to "PAID.
All the columns have the same data type in.
The extracted data contains the original sheet name and each row has a unique ID No to it.
I know I probably need to use INDEX and MATCH and then Offset to post value.
Attached worksheet shows the data and columns.

I have an excel file - central database - that holds a lot of raw data organized in tables. There are more than 15 files (dependent files) that access this data using VLOOKUP formulas.
I now need to add a few columns to the central database and these columns can't be after the columns already existing, i.e. they have to be on the left of some of the existing columns. Inserting those columns is going to mess up all the vlookup formulas in the dependent files.
Is there a way change the central database file without affecting the vlookup formulas in the dependent files?
