Checking Text In Cells Against List Of Possible Words?
Dec 27, 2013
I'm trying to make a game where from a choice of 16 words the contestant has to choose four of those words that, when another word is placed before or after each word it makes a phrase.
e.g From this list of 16 words
albert
bell
[Code]....
choosing bell, bottle, print, stocking can all have BLUE placed before them to make bluebottle, blueprint etc. That would be the correct answer. Choosing their four words would be from a drop down list of all 16 words, separate cell for each list options/chosen answer. bell bottle printstockingCORRECT
There would be 4 rows in total for 4 different answers to be made from the 16 words on offer. I have tried everything to get it to work in the 5th cell but it's difficult.
I have an Excel sheet set up with 6 columns: Col A contains a user-entered date. Cols B-E each contain a drop-down that the user can set to 1 of 4 options. Col F (I want) to show a date based on Col A & the results of the drop-downs.
The drop-downs contain (in order of importance): "Immediate","Urgent","Routine" and "None". If any of them are set to "Immediate", the date in Col F should be Col A date+2 days, if any set to "Urgent" it should be Col A+14 days, any set to "Routine" it should be Col A+28 days and for None the field can remain empty. I can enter a formula in F2 that checks for B2's drop-down as follows:
I have a column of text strings on Sheet1, Column A, which I need to check for the presence of keywords listed on Sheet2, Column A
So if any word from the keyword list on Sheet2, Column A is found in, say, cell A2 of Sheet1, the cell to its right (B1) should have a formula to display the count of keywords found in A2. I also would like to see each keyword identified either through a highlight or a list. I need the formula to NOT be case sensitive and the match does not have to be for whole words).
I have a spreadsheet of part #'s, descriptions, manufacturer names, and manufacturer part #'s. (It's a list of the inventory in my warehouse). Each row contains information for just the item in that row. Row 2 references another part in my warehouse, row 3 yet another, and so on.
Many of the parts have more than one potential manufacturer and part #, (meaning that any of those manufacturer's part #'s are basically the same tool; just different brands. At one time we may get a shipment of one, at other times we may get a shipment of another). For example, a screwdriver may be listed like this:
Part # 1234 screwdriver, mfg Snap-On, part # 456, mfg Stanley, part # 789, mfg Mac Tool, part # 439.
Then further down the list, there may be another part listed like this:
Part # 9980 wrench, mfg Stanley, part #741, mfg Snap-On, part # 852, mfg Proto, part # 369.
If you can imagine that data across the cells of a spreadsheet row, notice how the mfg name 'Snap-On' was the first mfg name on the screwdriver, but it was listed as the 2nd mfg name on the wrench.
So, here's my question: I want to be able to group all of the items made by any one manufacturer together in a new list. If all of the manufacturer names were in the same column, I could simply sort the list by that column, but since I've got thousands of rows with the mfg name I'm looking for in different columns on different rows, I thought maybe a macro could search each row for the word I'm looking for, then if found, take the whole row and copy it to a new worksheet. So the end result would be, If I wanted to see all items of which Snap-On is an acceptable supplier, I could get a list of all potential Snap-On items grouped together.
I'm sorry this is so long. I may have over-worded this and it may not be too clear. I could email an example of the spreadsheet if anyone needed more info to figure out what I'm looking for and was willing to take a look at it.
I have a column that is filled with text of varying lengths and I'd like to search through each cell in that column looking for a specific word or words. Unfortunately the length of the text varys greatly between each cell and there is very little uniformity so I need to be able to search through the entire entry in each cell and then highlight that row if a specific word or words are found.
I'd also like to be able to add a number "1" in another column on the same row if the search finds a word or words. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If the cell only contains the exact word or string I'm looking for then it's easy but I can't figure out how to search through text in a cell that contains more than I'm looking for.
example: Lets say I'm loooking for "caught fire" column Q contains: 1 "The computer caught fire after several hours" 2 "A house on the hill caught fire"
If "caught fire" exists in the cell being checked, then highlight the row and put a 1 in a specific column, lets say J.
how to cut a string from text and copy it to another cell: Example of a TEXT:..........................
This is Text in one cell - I need to cut the BOLD part. It always ( if appears ) is after statement <b>Kod Producenta</b>: and before <br/> It's not always in the same place. but always between statment above. "<b>Kod Producenta</b>: STRING_THAT_NEED_TO_BE_COPIED_TO_DIFFERENT_CELL <br/>" how can i do it with VBA macro? with cpp would be so much easier but still i need to do this in VBA...
I have 4-5 separate lists of words/letters and I would like to combine them in a certain order but creating all possible combinations resulting a new word. It's like a conjugation tool for verbs. For example if List 1 = be/el/ki/meg; List 2= m List3=e/é; List4= gy/" "; List 5=" "/ek/sz/nnek So the output has to be (if the order is List1+List2+List3+List4+List5)= bemegy/bemegyek/bemegysz/bemesz/bemész/elmegy/elmennek/ ..... and all possible combinations.
Preferentially I would like to automate it in a way that it straight outputs into MS Access. Also can it be automated that it reads the list from a file (database)? (Also can it recognize the word by letters? Because the basic word that I would load the program= List2+List3+List4)
I have a column, lets call it A, with a small list of airports. There will never be more than 7 airports in this list. There may be as few as one airport.
Now, I have column B which has ~100 airports listed.
All involved airports will be listed by their 4-letter code, i.e. PANC, PADG, PABE, and so on.
What I want to do is, if any airport in Col A is also in the list in Col B, to have that airport populate into a cell, like C1. Now, if two airports in A are also in B, then those airports should populate into C1 and C2, and so on for 3 or more airports.
I could probably do this by nesting 7 IF formulas to check each line one by one but, there's got to be a more elegant solution that can handle this?
If VBA is needed, that's fine too as this project already has macros in it.
I have lots of rows of text data on sheet 1(Q2:AB139708), on sheet 2 I have a list of text (A2:A44). In sheet 1 I would like to display "1" in cell ap2 if any of the row from (Q2:AB2) contains text from the list on sheet 2(A2:A44), then I would copy this down to 139708.
If seen a couple of examples but for whatever reason it doesn't work on my sheet. (Excel 2010 32 bit) I don't understand how to highlight the entire column to see this particular value is not in this list. I have two lists, I want to see what data am I missing In list 2 that I have in list one. Basically all I am trying to do is see what values are not in the second list but are in the first list so I can later add them to the second list. (Also the 2nd list is longer than the first if that makes a difference.)
I'm having a 6000+ records, (contacts DB) exported in Excel 2003 format from MS Outlook.
Except the "First" and "LastName", all other contact elements are in the field "Notes" (which is the BZ column according to the exported outlook layout) multiplied by 6469 (records in total)
Now, I want every time to take the part of the text says "TER:something..." (part of which is date, but not every time with the known format dd-mm-yyyy, as you see here is yyy, followed by something else, with parenthesis here and maybe more data) and copy it in a new cell..., e.g:CO Column, same Row...
Above and every field which by the way is formatted as General (and it is text mainly) are made by merging older excel fields where data laid here and there, that's why you see the commas...with the method of a module with the following code:
Function MyMerge(Rng As Range) For Each Cell In Rng Temp = Temp & Cell.Value & ", " Next Cell Temp = Mid(Temp, 1, Len(Temp) - 2) MyMerge = Temp End Function
Note1:Records with the above string (TER:dd-mm-yyy) are 771 from 6469. Note2: As an alternative solution I can see an extraction of the TER:dd-mm-yyy string and the copy in a new place, like the:CO Column, same Row...
how to checking data in 2 column each row, if partial/altogether string is match, shown "ok" otherwise show "check" with data in column a as parameter..
in my work sheet I need to Hide & Unhide some text box By checking a checkbox it means if user mark the check box the text box will be appear & if uncheck it the text box will be hidden
The following code doesn't check null condition in Scannedby field. The scannedby has text data type. The code gives me all the data where scandate=20130722 but doesn't check that scanned by can't be blank.
I am writing a macro that will allow me to copy all the data in a set range (A2 and below) after checking that B1 contains the text "Year_id".
Right now, I am able to copy all the information, and paste it onto "Sheet 4". I am unable to code for the part where the macro would check for the text. The code that I have (for copying-pasting the date) is below.
Any code that would check the information in B1 into this macro code below:
Code: Sub Copy_Allinfo()
Dim Sht As Worksheet Dim Rng As Range
For Each Sht In Sheets If Sht.Name = "Sheet4" Then
Trying to write function statement that does the following:
IF cells C9:E14 contain any of the following: "Termination" or "Forms" or "PWE" or "TSA" or "3rd Party", then cell would show "Provided Date (If Applicable):",""
This is my best shot at trying to get it to work, but it wont, no matter what iteration I try.
=COUNT(IF(C9:E14="TERMINATION",IF(C9:E14="FORMS",IF(C9:E14="PWE",IF(C9:E14="TSA",IF(C9:E14="3RD PARTY")))))>0,"PROVIDE DATE (IF APPLICABLE):","")
how to check that the formula in the cell1,cell2,cell3 in first row is same in next rows. For example how to check that formula's in c2,d2,e2 is same as c1,d1,e1 and c3,d3,e3 is also same as c1,d1,e1.
I want to create a nested IF formula that checks for blanks in three cells.
If A1=Not blank, then enter in "Live" else If B1=Not blank, then enter "Signed" else If C1=Not blank, then enter "Interested" else enter blank into cell
I am having trouble with several IF..THEN..ELSE loops in my code, all of which are pritty much the same. I need to find rows that are formatted in a certain way, in the example below this is a clear background and Black text. I know the loop works because i have tested it without colours on a test workbook, and i know the colours are correct, but it keeps skipping over the condition, regardless of the outcome. All the variables shown are declared correctly before the loop is entered.
I have a list of dates in a column, and am wanting to compare them against today() in cell A1. If any of the dates are in the past, it returns a FALSE, if all of the dates are in the future, it returns a TRUE.
I would like to check if selected cells is a union of several ranges or one solid range. I am sure there is a way, but did not manage to find it. How to do it?
Usually it's to count for one unique word in a cell. But what if I have 2 or more unique word in a cell and need to be counted for?
for example 10827Holiday Decorations & Party Supplyholiday decoration supply10827Holiday Decorations & Party Supplyseasonal decorative this category has 5 unique words in the synonym list
11044Facial massagerfacial11044Facial massagerbeauty care product11044Facial massagerbeauty appliance11044Facial massagerbeauty11044Facial massagerbeauty care11044Facial massagerbeauty product11044Facial massagerfacial appliance this category has only 5 unique words although the synonym list is much longer.
I've got a list in "column A" of around 6000 lines which contains key words which I want to extract to "Column b" if It matches but it can match on more than one word .
e.g
List Six Nations Ireland v England FA cup Semi Final Chelsea v Liverpool @ Old Trafford
Criteria Sample Ireland England Chelsea Liverpool
Ideally I would like to extract the first Town/Country as this is where the event is held unless the @ symbol is used then it's the last Toen/Country as in the FA cup example.
A friend of mine is playing a computer game, and he has to create 50 different potions to obtain her next goal. She would like to know if it's possible with excel to generate a list of potions based on 7 different elements. Here are the 7 elements : Black orchid, Cactus, Lotus, Pitcher plant, Rose, Tiger lily
Every elements could be repeated to generate one potion.
Therefore, the following combinations are valid :
Cactus - Cactus - Cactus Cactus - Rose - Cactus Cactus - Cactus - Rose Cactus - Rose- Rose
As long as there are no more than 3 elements, it's ok. I'm not looking for the precise coding, I just need to be pushed in the right direction...
I am checking whether or not two different cells contain a number or the error #NA.
If one of the cells contains a number then the result will be that number.
If both cells contain #NA then the result should be “99â€
Example: Formula in Column C The values are in columns A and B. If the value in cell A is a number the result is A. If the value in cell B is a number the result is B. If the value in cell A and B equal #NA the result is 99
Basically I'm doing a excel spreadsheet where i have a range of cells where we can input some figures or amount. If the cells they indicated exceed a certain amt example: 800, i would want it to show an error msg. I know it maybe sound simple, but have been using the if and countif formula which keep on showing error to me.
I am creating an excel application and have come a bit stuck. I would like to able create a macro button for printing a blank version of the workbook...when I say blank I mean the cells that the end user is able to type into.
I think I am able to do this providing all the cells are on the same sheet as the button using this ...
I am trying to create conditional formatting to ascertain whether values in one table (Table 1) are different from another identically formatted table above it (Table 2) (so each cell in Table 1 has a corresponding cell in Table 2).
If the value in a cell in Table 1 is different from its corresponding cell in Table 2, the cell should highlight in red.
Every cell's corresponding cell is the same distance away.
I tried to put in a conditional formatting for C5 (C5 being the first cell in Table 2), which works, but this breaks and turns to #REF every time i save and re-open the document.
